dr4stic's Experimental Build FunHouse! (CM10, CM9, m0R3?) for T769 and others, Oh My! - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

Hi guys,
I seem to have a need to run experimental builds. And since I turned the other thread into an official CM10 thread (stupid of me, I know), I thought I'd create this one to run experimental builds on.
What constitutes an experimental build? Well... mostly tweaks to our device profile. Turning on and off features we do or don't have on the phone. Maybe I'll try experimental AOKP or other releases, but most importantly:
I DO NOT TAKE REQUESTS!
Please don't ask for things that really should be mods and handled in the Themes and Apps section. You'll just be annoying me and cluttering the thread.
Please see the second post for misc. things I'm working on.
Also, be nice to all posters... even the [email protected] This is the Android Dev section and I'd like to see a certain level of decorum. We only get better by rising above.
AS ALWAYS, VERIFY ALL MD5 SUMS BEFORE INSTALLING.
ALSO, IF YOU FIND SERIOUS (or even minor) WEIRDNESS, PLEASE DO A FULL WIPE AND VERIFY BEFORE REPORTING!
Thanks

So, I talked to some guys, and I'm hoping the following kernel soves some of the SoD issues people have been having. Folks, PLEASE remember that you need to run this for at least a day or two without rebooting your phone on purpose. If it crashes out or reboots on it's own, that's a different story. I need this to be more of a long term test. As soon as I can confirm this works, I'll get it patched and submitted to official.
CM10 2012-11-11 Build. SoD Fix Attempt 1: boot-cm10.t769-noSoD.zip - 6.89 MB (Dirty flash OK, no need to wipe dalvik)
NOTE!!!
Sometimes I'll mention I uploaded a build. It takes about 25-30 minutes for me to upload a 160MB file. So if you don't see a file immediately, give it a half hour and come back.
Cleanup...
Unless there are any objections, I'll be removing the following files from my dev-host account, as well as older builds:
T769 - CM9 Experimental build, 10/25 Latest: cm-9-20121025-UNOFFICIAL-t769.zip - 137.16 MB
T769 - CM9 Kernel Flash for 10/30 build, Random WiFi MAC Fix: boot-kernel-cm9-wireless-mac-fix-20121030.zip - 6.99 MB
T769 - CM10 Experimental build, 10/24 Latest: cm-10-20121024-UNOFFICIAL-t769.zip - 159.47 MB

OK, so, first things first. I've run a basic build of CM9. I'd love to know if you guys find this stable or not. This has my kernel modifications against the kernel that it originally came from (3.0.8). The device setup is very similar to CM10 so setting up and running a build was not difficult.

I works, though wonky.
BLN was wonky in CM9, that's just how it was. In fact, when talking amongst the devs about doing a CM9 build, the dude that was responsible for the BLN stuff said "don't forget CM9 has the wonky BLN" ... yeah. It's the same experience as from CM10.
The CM10 implementation is supposed to be cleaner, but the rewrite was so extensive that it is killing me to try to work support for us back into it. In fact, the CM10 very of our build uses the CM9 driver, until I can finish my port.
So, yeah, the BLN will be the same as in the CM10 release.

It should be fairly vanilla CM9, except based on my sources rather than TFQ's. I'm hoping I can get some feedback on stability and features (other than BLN) because I'm curious about the comparison to CM10. Also, because an official build of CM9 might go a long way towards making people happier about their CM experience while CM10 goes through it's growing pains

Thanks for the explanation about the sources. I can live without bln and test everything out.

Post here... I kinda regret making the Q&A for the other thread. I'm fairly certain I'm a little ADD and have a limitted attention span

I flashed the rom and everything seems to be working fine. Only thing I noticed is volume is low during music playback . Volume controls work as expected. I'll continue to run this and see if anything comes up.

Volume seems low with speaker. Using Apollo player. Tune in and Pandora are louder
I'm also using the bln app and lights are working fine. No fc errors or crashes.

Stable enough to be official? Also, have you tested the torch (flashlight)? Are you still running it?
As for the volume, you say Tune in / Pandora are better... are they better as in correct, or just better as in not as low as apollo?
Is anyone else using the CM9 release?

Tune in and Pandora are not as low as Apollo. I really only stream music on phone as opposed to using a music player. So the Apollo thing might be normal. I also tested the torch/flashlight and it worked fine
Did anyone else report back on the rom?

Thanks! Yeah, no one else reported back on it. I think I may have found the volume issue. Looks like I may have missed some things in the kernel. Gonna finish building some new patches tonight, so we'll see. With any luck, by the end of the day we'll have a stable CM9 where the sound is what it should be, and I577 will have a CM9 that doesn't spin like a top
And... this might help towards some sound stuff that was just reported for the CM10 build as well.

Hah! Don't get too excited... I may have been wrong

Sorry to be late guys.... This rom is probably the most stable rom out there for ics.... the only drawback is the music playback from the speakers... the headphones seem to work perfect even with apollo. Also with amazon mp3 player.. Very smooth, fluid. Feels very fast. But I noticed one glitch in any app if I close the status bar real fast I see like half of the screen flash black. To reproduce this glitch you can just open messaging: pull down the bar, let it go, then real fast drag it to the top......

Glad to hear you guys are having a good experience with this build. With any luck, it'll be "official" early next week.
I loaded a new kernel into my CM9 builds area (see second post). Please load that one up as it's what will ultimately be pushed. If I could get a day or two's worth of feedback, I'd appreciate it. It's OK to dirty flash. You can wipe dalvik if you like.
I loaded some music on my test phone and, honestly... I'm not sure how loud it's supposed to get. The volume didn't change with the final kernel patching I did. Though, the other kernel's volume seems fine to my ears You're talking about the speakerphone, right?
My test music sounded fine to me... maybe I'll load up CM10 and see if there's a difference.
EDIT: loaded CM10 and volume levels seem the same to me. . o (you can get with this... or you can get with that...)

I love em! I'm currently running the Galnet one with the ICS framework ported over. It's already got some ICS stuff implemented too like the lockscreen and keyboard. so far everything runs very smoothly and there are only a couple of noticeable bugs like when scrolling through pic previews in the market, the market app crashes. the latest build was supposed to fix that issue, but i'm still experiencing it. Other MIUI Infuse issues still exist such as iffy blutooth and no hdmi support.
Basically if you are currently running MIUI I'd highly recommend updating if you like to have the latest and greatest and don't mind a few bugs. If you're a fan of stability on the other hand, I'd stick to a later build, like 1.11.9 if I remember correctly, I think I remember hearing to be very stable.
EDIT: Just figured out that Galnet was banned from XDA for rules violation

[REQUEST] Volume Rocker Track Change Mod for ICS

Seems like this option is getting scarce with ICS roms with HWA. Is it just not possible or is it not baked in yet?
Any one with the capabilities to make a flashable mod to add this function, or even suggest an app that can do this; it would be greatly appreciated.
try pulling EVToolbox.apk from evervolv's ics and it should allow you to use it if its a similar rom....i think...if im wrong im sure someone will chime in but i know its worked on others i've tried but never tried it on decks if your sig is current so worth a shot

Your post got me thinking.....I wonder if someone could have multiple system apps from different ROMs on one ROM. Like gummy settings, ROM control from AOKP and EVtoolbox from drews build?
I would think there would be massive conflicts, but interesting to consider. Hmmmmm

Hmmm interesting idea. I'll give that a shot.
As far as bastardizing roms, I've had so-so luck. I got CM9 settings on decks and it worked great for a while, but then pretty consistent FC's, I'm guessing some conflict with having both settings active.
I tried pushing AOKP Rom Control on decks but couldn't get anything to happen.

Mine was good for a while but steadily started freezing up more often. Looking forward to the new effort.
I did roll back to 7/22 with the new gapps (7/26). Found the voice search feature was not working (it comes up and acts like it wants to work, but never returns results unless you type the question). Anyone else experience this? I changed back to the older gapps (7/15) and it's working again.
First thing I would do if any app acts weird or force closes would to go to settings.. Apps ..find the app.. and clear data. If that doesn't work uninstall then reinstall.
For freezing issues I set my background processes to 2 in dev options. I changed vm heap too. Doesn't completely fix problem but helps out alot for me at least. Settings reset to default after a reboot. I read about this in the Captivate forum I believe and applied it here. I think there having the same issues too with freezing.

I am running the 7/23 ROM with 7/26 GAPP. The longer I am using it the better and longer it is going with out freezing.
When it locks up now it feels like when Windows runs out RAM. It will get slow and choppy if I keep pushing it the phone will freeze. If I exit the app and not push the phone it goes back to normal. I went 5 hours with out a lock up today using about a dozen apps. After the reboot I have played 3 games so far and 3 other apps. No lock up. Exited the one game when I got choppy.

Clear and reinstall of both 7/22 ROM and 7/26 gapps took care of it. (** and once again stopped working... something about this combo... went back to 7/22 JB + 7/15 gapps ...and patiently waiting...)
Also I noticed my Beautiful Widgets were not staying on my home screen after each reboot. They just pushed an update and now it's staying.
So this tells me the Swiftkey keyboard problem (mentioned earlier and nobody responded I believe) will probably be alleviated when they push an update. I am sure a lot of apps are pending Jellybean fixes.
I would go back to trying the 7/23 ROM but as Scott said, ultimately the code is the problem, so usage habits only go so far. Not waking up from a screen off was too much for me to stay with though.
Running cm10 7/23 butter with jbgapps 7/26 background processes 2, VM heap 128. No GPS for me though. Maps opens search works.

In summary...
7/22 ROM + 7/15 gapps - Pretty stable, but definitely slower in all ways (missing Youtube).
7/22 ROM + 7/26 gapps - Voice search broken with this combination.
7/23 ROM + 7/26 gapps - Definitely faster in every way (background process 2 - must set again on boot). Still slows down/freezes for many (mostly with maps/web browsing). Personally experienced lock up after screen off on more than one occasion. No GPS.)
Hope that helps.

It has to b something with that combo bc I'm running 7/23 build with 7/26 Gapps and it works perfectly. Really quick at recognizing speech and bringing up the cards.
His summation of the different combos is accurate IMO. 7/23 with 7/26 definitely the best but does still have the occasional freeze. The snappiness of Google Now and that combo in general makes it worth the occasional freeze for me though.
Hoping that Scott's new build that he said is coming soon will have working Voice recognization with the 7/26 Gapps. I'm sure it will bc he seems like a pretty amazing dev from what I've seen.

The release with butter has a bug that freezes your phone, which is being worked on. The butter release was taken down because of this. The release date of the butter version was 7/23. Install the no-butter one that Scott just uploaded and the 7/15 gapps and you'll be good.

[ROM] [ERA] CM7+Nexus S 4G Modems=faster internet speeds and Update PRL/Profile

This is a CM7 build I compiled from the EpicCM and CyanogenMod team's sources, but I modified the device, kernel, and vendor sources so we can use the Nexus S 4G modems, so we can have faster Internet and so we can update PRL and profile. My kernel sources are at https://github.com/xboxfanj/android_kernel_samsung_victory
You must flash this modem in Odin/Heimdall in order for Call/Text/Data to work, doesn't matter if you flash before or after you flash the ROM
http://marcusant.com/android/epic/modem.bin
Link:
http://darkierawr.com/Android/Users/xboxfanj/cm-7-20120828-UNOFFICIAL-epicmtd.zip
This build has fixed audio, voodoo color and sound, and battery life extender.
MD5:
93ba57b183e9b6a62a7240bee47876d2
Note: You must flash back to a regular Epic modem if you change ROMs to nearly any other one (besides my Sense ROMs or any other ROM that uses the Nexus modem (none at the time of this writing))
Working:
Everything that is working in the other CM7 builds (should be everything)
Thanks to the EpicCM/CyanogenMod Team for making most of the sources I based on.
Thanks to bbelos and I for patching in support for Nexus modems and PRL and profile updates.
Thanks to Darkierawr, marcusant, and eigerzoom for hosting
Anyone is welcome to build off this, but please make sure to credit me, bbelos, and the CM Team.
I plan on making CM9/10 builds with this modem and PRL/Profile update support later on.

Samsung is known to make bad modems/ril, and since Google made the one we're using, it should be better. That is why the GS3 gets worse data speeds than the EvoLTE. The hardware in that area is the same, so it means Samsung didn't do as well on that as HTC. GPS may be better too, since I changed that file to match the modem.

Think I found the fix for that. Making a build now... let me know if those things work in it.

I was wondering about the cap light disable ever since Tortel1210 said (after the latest stable official CM7 release) that it just wasn't going to happen because he'd given up on figuring it out... I was like, "But it works on the official build I'm currently using... did I miss something?" I will try to find his post in the official CM7 thread, in case I'm crossing my wires on that...
Anyway, so far, so good on my end - I can confirm the issues mentioned by darkjje, but the important thing is that my data connection is the best it has ever been (I no longer have to use wifi at my home in the boonies, lol). Can't wait for those small fixes to top off the package, but I'm pleased so far - thanks again, xboxfanj!

Ya I remember his post. I think it was along the lines of how its done it won't be merged in to the official and will have to be cherrypicked if people want it in... or something like that.

Your memory is more clear than mine
I found the post here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29856942
You summed it up fairly accurately... thankfully, it would appear the xboxfanj took the time to merge the fix in his build
(Well, his previous builds... and it seems like a safe guess that it will be in the next one as well)

I just added his java file to the frameworks, so we'll see if that fixes everything.

Yeah, saw that when I looked at the github, and that is what I'm assuming will fix everything.

He mentioned overlaying java files - I'm not sure I understand what he meant by that... my guess is that it has to do with merging additional code into an existing java file, but I've been wrong before ::gasp!::
I trust that you can figure it out, though, and now that I've heimdalled the modem I'm committed to testing (it's a quick enough process to switch back, but not as convenient as CWM flashing - laziness wins, lol)

Patience, grasshopper. He will let us know when it is up.
True that:

Normal Gapps for CM7 will work, right?

[ROM][4.1.2][CM10] BG53's Unofficial CM10 Nightly

Well, this took me almost a full day to figure out, but I'd say it's worth it. I have compiled my first CM10 build, and BOY! It's running nice I'd say it's one of the smoothest ROMs I've ran. So far, I haven't had any flickering or anything on it, the Camera and Gallery works wonders. Bluetooth and Headphones are working, in call, streaming as well. I haven't tried tethering, so I don't know if that works, but I think it would.
I'm planning on maybe developing themes for this, or doing nightlies, if anybody is still interested in CM10. I like it because it is currently more stable than CM10.1.
I hope you guys enjoy this ROM and are able to give me input on how to expand my skill in developing
NEW UPDATE 1/29/13: Not sure if any changes happened. Sound for video recording seems alright in my opinion.

NFC Fix (Works, but after Android Beam completes, DSP Manager FC's, but DSP works fine still): http://invisiblek.org/sch-i535/CM10.1-d2vzw-nfc-crapHax.zip Thanks to invisiblek for the great work!
I hope you enjoy this, and any input is welcome

gapps are NOT in the ROM. I used standard 4.1 gapps and they work great. I'll find a link to put in the OP

I got GPS lock in about 4 seconds. Works great. Will do screenshots in OP when I get home (like fifteen minutes).

I'm sorry but I don't think I can help you there. Does USAA have a mobile site?

I don't know I never checked I suppose. I was just throwing that out there to see if anyone had any input on it... I am so ready to come back to aosp lol

Well USAA has a Mobile site. I tend to like mobile bank sites better than the app counterparts. Wells Fargo always acted up on the Razr and TBolt, no matter if stock, AOSP, whatever. so I used the site more often. So just know there is an alternative to sticking to stock because of the app...
OP Updated with WORKING NFC Fix!
Is there any way to include a folder system in the app drawer instead of just on the home screen?

Keyboard FCs after flash making the ROM useless.

How's the video recording volume on this rom? I'm at work and can't test. I know it's been a recurring problem on CM10.

Want to flash this but wondering if this problem is one that everyone is having? This is the only mention of keyboard issue I've seen so far in this thread. Can anyone confirm keyboard is working ?

Mine works fine. In fact, I flashed the 4.2 keyboard because it's better.
I had one instance where the keyboard FCed, that happened when I tested a dirty flash. either reflash or wipe and reflash, and it should work fine. I haven't tried video recording on the ROM, but I'm going to compile a new one in a little bit, so I'll post that in a little while.

Well in case you're wondering, recording is fantastic. Very close to the volume of TW. This ROM has everything working. Also, got some nice screens of battery if anyone wants info about it.
Keep in mind my battery started at 71% when I first flashed this ROM. I can imagine a full battery would yield even better results.
