Unlikely, but that's anyone's guess. It took a year to get ICS, meaning the phone is a year older (thus less likely to get development from Motorola). Jelly Bean is a much smaller update than Gingerbread->ICS, but I don't see Motorola committing the resources.
You should feel luckily that moto updated atrix 2 to 4.0. You see, moto is a small company now, that is why google swallowed it. All moto care is to sell their rarz and other new phones.

Thats what I say. Motorola already made 10 new phones this year .
Its just plain rediculous :I
I'm not holding my breath about JB.
Sorry!!
Sorry, but it's impossible. You can try an unofficial version like the cm10. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869692.
It's a nyce roms, the developers are still working this, but it's a nice alternative.
i think we are gonna get jellybean.. motorola said (i know we can trust in that lol) that they would try to update most of their devices launched in 2011, and what i think is that they already drop the devices they did not want to update anymore (photon 4g, atrix 4g, electrify), maybe because these devices use the tegra 2 platform and it was a pain in the ass for them working for 2 different platforms...
now, we have the bionic, atrix 2, razr , etc they were launched from september to november of 2011, all of them have the same platform.. ti-omap, same camera, 1gb ram, etc.. and if you consider a newer device like the electrify 2 launched this year, you can see that it is almost identical to the atrix 2 in specs.
considering this facts, i think we must be on the list to get jellybean.
impossible, I do not trust Motorola and rehabilitation service and better deal with the customer. after LG, Motorola is perhaps the worst company smart phone manufacturing. I like that even if only by shame liberated the bootloader.

From the horse's mouth (though with Motorola of late I might be more inclined to say from elsewhere)-
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/motorola-jelly-bean-rebate_en-US
My money is on them putting out a bloated version of Jelly Bean just to say they did.
My own pet theory is that Moto EOL'd some 2011 phones partly because they required more work to develop for(512MB RAM or Tegra architecture) and to make it easier to fullfill the JB promise for remaining 2011 phones, just so they can say "But we do care about our customers!".

you will have to add the atrix 2 to that list, motorola just released their new upgrade program and we are not getting jellybean!!!
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
I don't get why A2 wasn't included. Isnt the A2 rougly the same product class as the Bionic?
EDIT:I've got an axe to grind with Motorola mobility now.
Motorola is certainly inconsistent with their Jelly Bean promise for most 2011 phones announced some 6 weeks ago. Only two phones are listed as upgradable to Jelly bean I can count six 2011 phones off the top of my head (A2, Razr, Bionic, Photon, Droid 3, X2). Thats about two models short of most. Since messages are logged I encourage everyone to express their disappointment at the Motorolas Google+ page http://plus.google.com/+Motorola and the customer chat https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/
It's also a good idea to spam their twitter and facebook pages. Every time they make some announcement about how great one of their phones is, ask why we aren't getting JB on our phones.

Sent from that Atrix.
Guys, what's the point of racking on Motorola for (whatever) and starting discussions about speculative updates that will just end in moderator intervention? We should all just be pleased with the fact that Motorola released ICS for us, and not start another possible piss storm fueled by opinions and senses of 'what's owed to (user)'. We all know Moto, and this phone has been out for just over a year now. That being so, you know what you bought and what you should expect -judging by the trend lines and intentions of Motorola itself. Jellybean would be great for this device, but if it doesn't come, you should all know who to point the finger towards. However, each time you point a finger, there are three more pointing back to you. This means you know what you bought, and if it's worth complaining about, maybe it's a good time to look into buying a different device. My thoughts, to be taken however you all see fit...

Not sure if this is the right section to post in as I have a slightly off topic question.
I'm looking to replace my desire as I have had it for nearly 2 years. The natural phone to get would be a sensation or galaxy s2. But these phones are too big, I don't need a 4.3" screen.
So I'm after a phone that is similar size to the desire but with a higher spec such as dual core and 1gb RAM.
So far, I found a Motorola atrix which meets my requirements, are there any others?
Thanks
Anyone got any views?
personaly i want a sensation XL or XE
I'm guessing you are on AT&T? The Atrix is a pretty dated phone, and probably not your best choice. It is quite hard to find a phone with a small screen though. Is Android the only OS you are considering?
The Atrix is outdated? Holy eff. What's my Defy then, museum tech? Multi-core and all that stuff isn't much more than a pissing contest (or **** measuring, if you want), as opposed to something that's actually needed.
@325i. I'd say go for the Atrix. I too find the 4.3'' phones too large, so it's really cool that the Atrix is just 4''. It's also a very hackable phone, the folks here have even unlocked the bootloader.

And for the third time: So? My Defy is a Motorola too. But now here comes the big shocker: Despite being a Motorola, it... works. Weird, innit? It works. It provides me all I want. Including CyanogenMod7. CM9 is available too, but the camera and FM aren't yet working on that.
If you're willing to consider another OS, wp7 is amazing. The lumia 800 or focus flash are both outstanding phones with small screens and both easily outperform any android device on the market with a meagre 1.4 GHz processor. Better battery life, smoother experience, great dev support, Xbox live, Microsoft office, I could go on. I'm not saying buy one. I'm saying try one. You won't be disappointed.

Ok, whatever you say. But like the OP said, he has had his phone for 2 years. Which means he is most likely due for an upgrade and will probably his next purchase for 2 years. So if you want to give him the bad advice, and purchase an Atrix to use for the next 2 years, you do that. Just remember, the Atrix will most likely NOT get ICS and most definitely will not get the next version of Android.

LOL, now I am really finding it hard to believe that you have ever actually used Android. If you want to break it down like that z33, my mt4g received at least 5 updates. 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, 2.3.3, 2.3.4, and since I'm overseas and not getting updates I am pretty sure it is up to 2.3.6, plus numerous other OTA's with various minor updates. We are obviously talking about updates between different versions of Android. Which now, that Android has grown up, almost all high end phones will receive 2 updates officially, and countless unofficially.

So if you think I'm ridiculous for using his upgrade to get a better phone at a cheap price...there are 15 million people using an SGSII that will disagree with you. Good day sir.

Yes, I would like to stick to Android. I have tried an iphone for a few weeks but its not for me.
The main points why the Atrix gets my vote is that the spec is still really good despite the phone being a year old. E.g. dual core and 1gb RAM. Overall, the spec is superior to my desire.
Also, there is a plenty of Dev support available and custom ROMS. Just waiting for a ICS rom which is fully working.
Lastly, in the UK I can buy the Atrix for under £200 which i think is a bargain. I can sell my Desire for around £120ish which works out really well.
what will the next google phone be? running ICS with a quad core processor. ( i am saying like the Galaxy Nexus) .
They use the Nexus line to release the next version of Android....
So the next "Nexus" will probably be running something like Android 5.0, and no one has any idea what it will look like or have for specs, and Google probably doesn't even know yet.... Its February, and they release in late Q4.
As marton says, you shouldn't expect real info until we get closer to Fall of this year (roughly). Given google's acquisition of motorola, I'm looking out for a Droid Nexus, though obviously nothing's for certain yet.

I don't feel like digging for other articles but the Atrix 3 rumor was just that - A RUMOR. It is a very awesome concept but there may never be an A3.
On Jelly Bean... I don't even want to start to think about considering it.
I know that everybody is always looking for the next best thing but to be honest i am very happy with my A2. I have no complaints against this phone. Its quick, no lag and i have a ton of space for more apps. Those were my biggest complaints with previous phones that I have owned but not with this one. It's still a new phone and once the bootloader gets unlocked there will possibly be a lot more development. Plus we get at least one more update with ics in the future.

Just to give some "true" info on both Jelly Bean and the Atrix 3.
They are both actual products, but neither will be here this year.
Yes they are going to start work on Jelly Bean in Q2, but it will not be released until either very late 2012, or more likely in 2013, from what I am hearing. The Atrix 3 is a real phone, but there are no "true"specs for it yet, as it is just a work up that Moto provided to AT&T, and it it will go through several changes and most likely be nothing of what the rumors say at this point since it is just a render from Moto to AT&T and it was part of an RFP that was put out about 3-4 months ago. There has not been any more movement with the product at this time, the notes about specs were things that were mentioned in the RFP, but again those are just "high level" thoughts, and usually only equate to companies being able to bid IF they can meet at least those minimal specs.

Cool. Thanks for the info Jim. Ya I wasn't sure about either... so thank u for clarifying!
They release the current model with lower spec and maybe 6 months later we have all the features we were hoping for in an HD model.
I am ready to go get this phone now but I'd imagine they will(Moto) come out with the higher grade product not long after this current model.
Thoughts?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That was a concern for me as well, seeing as how release-happy Moto has been in the past (specifically Droid 3 --> Droid 4).
But how I see it, the Razr --> Razr HD transition, we saw a different design and better screen, mainly. I wasn't happy with their 720p decision on the 2013 Droids, but after looking at it in the store, it didn't bother me. So if they choose to release a 1080p update, I probably won't care too much unless the design of the device is amazing. I doubt Motorola would create a battery that's like 3800-4000mAH, and the battery life is just fine right now. Same for the camera - I doubt Motorola will actually release an amazing camera...
Not sure what else they would add that would make me want it. MicroSD maybe?
I don't forsee this at all. Droid-brand releases are going to slow now that Google has ahold of them. More likely to see a Moto X refresh in ~6-9 months I think than Droid line.... Plus your "HD" question, this already is the HD version, its just not in the title. You probably mean FHD :silly:
I believe Motorola fulfilled their contract with Verizon to manufacture the Droids. These were the last set

You can't assume moto's past records with the new Google/Moto. Case in point is the fact that motoblur no longer exists... Thanks to Sundar and team.
Google has already improved on the camera hardware. In actuality, the hardware for the camera is pretty nice... The software needs some work on to match the hardware reqs.

Really did you just ask this question? We will get 4.4.2 and even the next update our phones are 6 months old hell moto is updating the RAZR and M how old are they. I so tired of all the negativity against lenova and stupid posts like this one. Fear mongering that all this post is about. Unless you have something of probative value on this subject do me a favor and keep your ? To yourself.
The Lenovo deal is not finalized yet. Google still owns Motorola.
Why would Lenovo not want to update the phone? Also, Motorola is still rolling out updates to the X, after the Lenovo deal was announced. The Lenovo deal was negotiated late last year, and updates still continue. Motorola just announced a new watch that was developed before the deal. Frankly, I don't think anything is going to change.
Lenovo is going to want to start out by keeping their active customer base happy... The first thing they don't want to do is piss off everyone they just acquired. I'm certain Motorola will roll out 4.4.2 before Lenovo takes over. Lenovo should keep updates coming at least until they have their own line of superior phones.
A buyout like this isn't over night. Can take a couple of years to finalize.
Why does everyone care about updates so much?
Wasn't there talks from Google about phones will only receive updates until they are 1.5/2 years old? Or do I have the times wrong.

Kinda but you have it backwards. It was that they WILL received updates for 18 months but that has never really been a firm thing and it's still up to providers. This doesn't mean they will stop receiving updates after that 18 months though. Motorola has shown a willingness to update timely and I have no doubt that will continue. I'm sure the hold up is playing the Verizon game.
From what I understand its not really Motorola that holds the updates. Its Verizon they receive the update for said phones and they add their little programs and secret squirrel crap to the update before the consumer receives it.

So since there is no root for 4.4 without bootloader unlock there is no much sense for VZW to push 4.4.2 =)

I have a locked boot loader with 4.4 and I'm rooted

Yeah but you gained root on 4.2.2 then took the update. Run an fxz and your root is bye bye because you can't root 4.4

So did I. But portion these people is small too =) All new phones comes with 4.4, problem solved. Most people got updated first and then checked for root options.
That's exactly what happened to me and also what pushed me into the "potential bootloader unlock" game but all said and done I'm glad it happened that way living life to the Maxx is so much easier now...

Lenovo wont even give us there own phones they make money on. Why would they update something they make $0 off of at this point?
Look at there android tablets. I havent seen anything of updates on them in a while.
It's going to be a while for 4.4.2. David Schuster just said on his g+ page " I understand your frustration, we are also frustrated. We have been working to get you this upgrade as quickly as we can but there have been some unforeseen delays with requirement changes. We are actively working on getting you this update."
In other words Verizon is insisting on more ways to make your phone theirs.

All they have to say is NO. But they won't. The Droid line Motorola has made for years any other provider would take if they could get it. TMZ started with these crazy loud videos playing that you couldn't pause or turn off the volume about a year back. With Android 4.4 Google said NO and now the app crashes each time it try to open with a video ad.
If Samsung, HTC, and Motorola got together and stopped letting Verizon screw up there software with extra crap it would all be fine. Apple said NO.. Guess what.. They still sell the iPhone.
Motorola is contracted by Verizon to make the droid branded phones for them. This isn't like the X, or the HTC one, or the samsung galaxy or note phones, or the lg phones - Verizon hired Motorola to make the droids, rather than Motorola coming to Verizon with a phone to sell. Moto has no choice but to follow Verizon's specifications. They can't say no, and they definitely can't update the phone without Verizon's approval.
The iPhone is completely different. The carriers are begging apple to sell the phone, rather than the other way around. Apple has power in that sort of relationship that no other phone OEM has, and probably will have for a long time, if ever.
David schuster said the fix would take "a number of weeks". So, by the end of May? Is that really that long a time?
