Since receiving my A700 ten days ago, I have been eagerly awaiting the update to Jelly Bean. My main concern was lowering the heat generated by the tablet on the back lower left,
but I also was looking forward to all the other improvements JB brings.
I've been manually checking for the firmware update dozens (if not hundreds!) of times a day and the tab has always reported that it was "Up to date".
The tab came with (what I have been told is) a really old version of ICS installed (1.017), so the system was obviously NOT up to date.
Decided to check one more time this morning before attempting to force the available update(s) to my A700.
To my surprise there was an update available!
Actually there were 3 updates in total:
1) This update was just under 340MB and updated my A700 to version 1.029.
2) This second update was 35MB - I forgot to write down the firmware version for this one - DOH!
3) Third and final update was ~ 240MB and brought my tablet firmware 1.034 and Android version 4.1.1 - Woo-Hoo!!!
Now to see if the back still gets uncomfortably hot...

Hi, it was announced about a week ago that there was a small update for ics, fixes 64gb card issues and other things, ive read on a few forums that a lot have had this update already, mine always says i have the latest version (i have never updated it at all yet).
is there a delay in the uk for the update?
james
There are quite a few regions that haven't been updated from the shipping software yet. Others have recevied two updates. I have no idea what the logic is. If JB really is imminent perhaps their only pushing out updates to address specific regional issues. The majority of updates have been for the N8000 so those updates could be tied to probems with the radios on carriers in the region the devices were sold in.
I had bought myself 2 64gb cards and neither worked in the unit, the update from what i heard sorted out that issue, to me thats a pretty big issue that a lot of people are having, i was hoping for the update just to fix that, up to now i have to use a 32gb which is fine for now.
I need this small update just to be able to import pdf files into S-note without it crashing all the time. I usually root to get things done but this tablet generally is not causing any problems for me to root it.
It is frustrating to say the least.
Hopefully they will give us jelly bean first. Right now I'm waiting for the note 2 with lte on ee.
I'm in Australia and got a pop-up notification of the update today (12 October). Will wait till I'm home and on wifi to do the update...
I've just got my Nvidia Shield in the mail, powered it up and set it up,
when checking for the latest updates in Settings -> About Shield -> System updates, it's saying that it's up to date.
Android Version is 4.2.1 and Kernel built on Aug 26th 2013.
According to Nvidia, it's already been updated to 4.2.2: http://shield.nvidia.com/release-notes/
But why does mine say 4.2.1 is the latest update?
The Shield has never been modified or rooted, the box was still sealed when I got it.
Sometimes it can take a while for it to show up. Everytime nvidia has released an update my shield never pulled it until the next day.
yeah, that was the case.
It started to download Update 77 in the background after a while.
I almost was afraid that updates weren't available in my country since I live in Germany o__o;
Hi folks,
My Shield 32 GB just arrived and is charged up. I've signed on with a google account and done nothing else.
I will eventually root it but want to put it through its paces for a month or so first.
It arrived with KK 4.4.2 (wow! so old!) on it. It offers an OTA update from October 2014. Says it is OTA 1.21. I've seen LOTS of other OTA numbers much later around these forums. Do I have to take the 1.21 OTA before I can get to the more recent ones?
And, by taking the OTA, am I doing anything irreversible that I probably shouldn't do, since I'm eventually a rooting and maybe ROMing kind of guy?
Thanks. I've read up and it looks like I probably want to go all the way to the 5.1 release, once they sort out the speaker-killing bug. But for the moment I'd like to make sure I'm not missing anything before taking the OTA.
Thanks!
Marc
I decided to download the update after I successfully activated the device on AT&T's cellular network.
That was a bit of a hassle... couldn't do it from the device (the ATT app said something about incompatibility with the SIM card), the PC online web registration wouldn't accept it because NVidia Shield wasn't listed in the device types, and it took the efforts of 3 ATT folks to get me activated. First one passed me to the second one when he found out it was a device not purchased from ATT (but... dude... here's the SIM and IMEI number that's all you need...), the second one set me up and told me to call another number to accept terms and conditions. Did that, still no joy, found the default APN isn't set up right. Fixed that, still no joy, eventually talked to person 3 that found out they didn't attach a data plan to the device when they set it up... as part of my family shared data account. Duh.
Anyway, I applied the 1.21 and then it prompted me to download the 2.1 update to Android 5.01. It has downloaded. I think I want to copy it over to my PC before I let it apply.

Hmmm. Poked around and found the 1.21 update but not the 2.1 full LTE OTA. Perhaps I'd need root to get at the files. Oh well. I can always download it if I need it. Applying the 2.1 update now.
And I've made it all the way to the 2.2.1 hotfix. Seems stable enough for the moment.
I understand OTA 3.0 got pulled; so I guess I'll be staying on Lollipop 5.01 until they release the fix.
It's a bit surprising that I had to do all the updates sequentially and that there wasn't any direct-to-the-latest. But it didn't take long. I wonder if all these OTAs are clogging up my memory somewhere?
OK, on to exploration!
Marc
the update got pulled indeed, caused all kind of problems, including blown speakers
nvidia employee told us on nvidia forum they would release a new OTA 3.1, targeted end of june
lastest news: it's now targeted end of july....
First time that a Pixel device (as far as I remember) ended monthly updates on exactly the expiration date. I totally forgot that October 31 was the last day until I saw that newer devices received updates today while the 3 and 3xl had not.
Yep. We should get one massive "quality" update next month, and then that's it. Since we now have 12 I'll probably keep the 3XL until the 7 comes out to keep the OS updates going since my phone is pretty much flawless, and I just got a new battery for it about 4 months ago.
The Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL will get one final software update next year
The final Google Pixel 3 update will likely only bring some minor bug fixes for the three-year-old smartphone when it finally drops.

Update released today. https://www.droid-life.com/2022/02/07/pixel-3-gets-what-should-be-its-final-update/
Updated my 3XL this morning via OTA sideload. No issues with the update or functionally after update. One issue that is mentioned in this article https://www.androidpolice.com/googl...Taro on,still displays October after updating is occurring on mine (probably everyone) where it still shows the October security update.

Same for me showing Oct security update
Same here.
The two things that we can praise its the improvements in smoothness and it feels mutch faster than before.
With only 12Mb, I have no idea what they fixed beside that.
Surprise update for the 3/3XL: https://www.androidpolice.com/the-pixel-3-and-3-xl-last-update/
I bought my Note 20 Ultra when I still was using my iPhone as my main phone (I'm on AT&T) I switched to the Note last year and never really noticed it has *never* updated at all.
Just bought a Galaxy Tab S8 and realized the Note has not updated since Aug 2021.
I have been trying to figure out how to update the phone for about 2 weeks now, there is no option to check for an update at all. There is however a "Software Update" under the Battery and Device care option in settings.. but pressing it does nothing.
I went to AT&T last week and they are completely stumped. The guy helping me has the exact same phone and he has the update option where it should be and is running the latest Android 12 that AT&T pushed out. He gave me a 1-800 number to call for "advanced" support but i know they will say wipe the phone as their first "fix" and i'd rather not do that yet.
He checked my account, all my settings on their end and in my phone and has no clue whats going on.
Has anyone come across this? any ideas how to force an update?
I did download the Smart switch app for my computer from Samsung to check for an update (read that it can check for updates) and nothing.
12 is worse than 11; many that tried 12 rolled back to 11. Leave it on 11 and be happy.
This N10+ is still running on Pie. It runs like a bat out of hell. Security is not an issue. Current load will be 3 yo in June, still fast, stable with minimal maintenance. Good as it gets.
Rule#1- if the firmware is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be!!!
