It's been 3 months since ICS was released. When is Google going to start pushing out the OTA ICS update to us North American 9020A users?
Yes I could root, install the alternative 9020 rom, and update the radio. But I want the official ICS OTA.
ICS OTA doesn't come to Korea, neither
But I'm satisfied thaks to custom rom...
where is the ICS update for I9020A and korean version??
answer: @Google
lol
Well I've seen a picture somewhere where some french carrier said that Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus will get 4.0.5 in march.

That is what I was thinking, but I did it any ways. I knew that the wait would be too long.
I couldn't wait any longer and finally 2-3 weeks ago flashed a custom ICS rom. I used this ROM as it was designed for the 9020A and didn't require a new radio to be flashed as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399956
Been working great without any freezes or glitches.
I'm hoping ICS shows up for my Telus SNS as all this reading and waiting is killing me It's all too quiet out there on what is happening and it would be comforting to know about my investment in this super personal/business tool.
I went to Nexus S from my Captivate for two reasons, GPS and lack of updates.
Directly from google themselves...
http://www.google.com/phone/detail/nexus-s
Nexus S is the next generation of Nexus devices co-developed by Google and Samsung.
Nexus S comes pre-installed with the latest Google apps and has features like true multi-tasking, Wi-Fi hotspot, Internet Calling, Near-Field Communication (NFC) support, and full web browsing.
With this device, users will be the first to receive software upgrades and new Google mobile apps as soon as they become available.
Now that I see other NON google devices coming out before I get the official, Im a little upset.
If I were to hold them to what they say, they have lied. False advertisment. I love my phone, but seriously Google, where are your priorities?
Some folks are theorizing that the official ICS ROM for 9020A has been delayed in order to fix the wonky search button bug that sometimes happens in weak 3G areas. Having experienced this bug, one can only hope they're right.

That can't be fixed. It is a hardware defect. Google already adjusted the tolerances as much as they could in the latest Gingerbread update. Anyone thinking they are holding up ICS because of a hardware bug that Google has already addressed is probably misinformed.
Hi, I have an Australian bought (from JB Hi-fi) unbranded Note 10.1 Wifi+3G and despite some internet reports that this device got Jellybean in the last few weeks, and other internet reports that it got it in November 2012(!), there's no sign of an update for me (it says "No updates available" each time I check). Why?
This article from an Australian retailer says the Note 10.1 got the update in November 2012!
http://www.mobicity.com.au/mobile-b...update-released-for-samsung-galaxy-note-10-1/
Sorry to start another JB update thread, but most of the talk in the other threads is from people who already have it, and this is a question specifically about us Australians who don't.
Ok, the goss from here is that Australia simply doesn't have it yet, and no samsung representatives seem to know when it will.
Hi Peeps,
Does anyone know when our Tablets will get an official update to 4.1.2 or even 4.1.1, I keep watching the Samsung YouTube chanel and they always show of all the features of JB but yetthey wont upgrade ours and leave it on ICS.

JB is a significant improvement, just go ahead and flash it with one of the other country ROMs that are available.

People who have imported them from the US have got them, though.
It's pretty annoying how I keep reading that "pretty much everyone" has it now. We don't! I guess I'll keep waiting. Hope we get it Q1 2013.
Bugger that, use ODIN and get whatever firmware you want... If you want to stick to stock, make sure to get a copy of the Aussie ICS rom from sammobile so you can downgrade and then upgrade to Aussie JB later....
Trust me, it's a heap smoother and JB has a few extra bits and piece over ICS... Worth the upgrade....
You don't need to be rooted for the overseas firmwares... Though I prefer to be... Blocks the security exploits nicely...
^^^
What he said - United Arab Emirates don't have JB yet either.
I just downloaded and flashed German 4.1.2 (XXCLL3) on my N8000.
For my Daughter's N8010 I downloaded and flashed German 4.1.1 (XXBLK9)
Both work perfectly.
As I haven't rooted, I'd rather go with Samsung's upgrade and keep all my app data and settings.
With ODIN I expect I'd lose them (and even if not, I'd be strongly recommended to do a factory reset).
Up to you, but Oz being the ass(you know what I mean) end of the world I wouldn't expect the update any time soon....
Same for most tech, low customer base and too far to ship so we get EVERYTHING last....
I haven't waited for the updates t arrive on any of my phones and tablets as we seem to be about 6 months behind, more if you have a carrier branded device...
Hi guys.
I can see there are some threads with leaks of the rom or other country's releases but was hoping do get an OTA to install the Lollipop update.
I have read that apparently the UK has started to receive it not so long back but i have tried to request the update via the settings menu and also via Kies but it just says that it is up to date.
Any ideas when i should receive it or if any of the other zips in those other threads are complete and official and also okay to use for the UK?
My phone is the unlocked international version. It was originally from Three network but early on in it's life i grabbed an official zip from on here and installed it to remove the Three branding etc. It is unrooted.
i flashed the official firmware from sammobile its vodaone uk but i think they have made a mistake with it because its got german apps on it.
so i dont think there is one for the uk yet.
cheers mate.
thats what i didnt want, any sort of incorrect rom or even apps on it. seems odd that some info across the net state the UK as havcing started receiving it a while back but it still hasnt actually started to speed up with it's rollout

Same here. Have been expecting it since I heard Russia started getting it a number of weeks ago. Russia!
No OTA available to unlocked European phones - how can carriers be getting it before unlocked phones???
It really must be any day now here in the UK.

i got an ota lollipop update a few days ago on my n9005 but my sons phone says up to date on 4.4.2 (n9005 also)
melliwuk
i should mention that my update seems to be from vodafone (my network) not from samsung.
im going to flash the vodafone stock kitkat see if i get the update that way. ill let you know how i get on.
UPDATE:
so i flashed the vodafone stock kitkat didnt get no update because i was still on BTU csc so i changed the csc to VOD and checked for the update again and it was there. both in software update settings on the phone and in kies.
Its rubbish isn't it, I got bored waiting and flashed the stock Poland rom....once again the UK is at the back of the queue ...
whats with the delay for BTU for UK ?
are there carrier timed exclusives ? bit of a joke that we're what up to 3 weeks now ?
Yeah I'm getting impatient too, been checking every day only to get disappointed, and SamsungMobileUK twitter doesnt help by saying its "Top secret knowledge", why they wouldnt want customers to know a date is beyond me.
I would like to think it should be soon, but I have really no expectations for them anymore, I don't even know how carrier versions went up before the UK international version, I thought the international version would be up first no?
Still have the beta(?) lollipop rom on my Note 3, seems pretty fine for now, haven't noticed any breaking bugs really, but I am still eager for the final version (And espicially 5.0.1 to bring mute back, which will be an EVEN longer wait probably, unless the wait is because they're going straight to 5.0.1?)
Blame Vodafone. They paid money to get the exclusive Lollipop release .That's why it's only available to the Vodafone and daughter companies, and not the unbranded and other companies. They do that quite often.

Honestly? That's really crap if true. Pretty bad deal for Vodafone too imo. I haven't heard of any promoting from them they're the only ones offering lollipop for note 3 and I can't see people selling their note 3's and buying a new one from Vodafone for lollipop either. This type of deal just seems like screwing most owners off and making Vodafone owners feel happy buying from them. Helps Vodafone look better too as they may not have been first providing the update if there was no such deal.
Still nothing for me. I've been restarting my phone some mornings before going into settings and hitting the check for update.
I seem to remember before, a method of clearing the data of a Google app that reset the clock i think and it sometimes helped get an update sooner. I can't remember what app it was though.

none of that is true, its works of your csc code. BTU is unbranded, VOD is vodafone H3G is three O2U is o2 EE,EVR is ee and so on lol
so what ever you got on yor phone if its unbranded or on a network is when you get it.

That's pretty much the general idea with these deals, customer binding. Keep your customers happy by being able to tell them 'We're faster than everyone else. Look, they don't have Lollipop yet, and we do!'
They don't advertise with it because the decision came from HQ, but every country has its own marketing team. Most of the time the marketing team has no idea it was even done.
On top of that, people don't care enough to go to a provider because it got the firmware first (They'd all buy or flash Unbranded if they did), but they're exceptional good at whining about it when others get the update first and they don't have it yet.
(The T-Mobile forums are a nightmare right now. And they(Samsung) cancelled 5.0 for the S5 temporarily before rolling out a new one, making it even worse as the branded version is always spectacularly late.. "Why do they have the update? I can't download it, but my [neighbour, sibling, friend] has the same phone and same provider, and they have the update? Are you blocking me?"x500 *sigh*)
That's how marketing works, make people feel bad about other brands, and better about yours.
I know it sounds a bit... conspiracy theory-ish. But if you look at the list of released updates, it's pretty obvious.
The last one came out on 01 February 2015, so with luck we'll see the rest in a week or two. (My attempt at optimism isn't working, is it? ) Depending on how much they paid it's either 1 month or 3. (HTC once paid several million to Google to get the exclusive release for 3 months.)
Edit: Oh, hello!

On Sammobile! It's from today! (It's the second Poland version. That's promising, because the rest usually follows)
Your updates are all dependent on your Carrier / CSC.
Just think for a minute. Samsung have you by the short and curlies. If you go custom rom, they jump up and down saying that your warranty is invalid due to knox counter. Biggest pile of poop ever!
The carriers have you by the short and curlies because of this CSC junk. The carriers have you by them as well, because of the CSC's.
Why would any business want to upgrade you at the same time as releasing 'flagship' models. A carrier / manufacturer would want to shift more 'new' units rather than look after it's current, loyal, customer base. Samsung have released the N4, S6 and edge in a relatively short period of time. Considering their market share is falling, what would you rather do? Sell boatloads of new stuff, or encourage people to keep their older phone? Realisticaly, just HOW much better is the N4 or S6 than it's preceding model? The S6 doesn't even have the option of an SD card!! As I have said on other boards, how many times can you re-invent the wheel?? I turned down a note 4 upgrade because it didn't do things, noticeably, better than my N3.
As you are probably aware, loyalty is worth nothing to businesses these days. Who gets the best deals? New customers. Once the S6, edge and N4 sales slow down, the N3 will probably receive the Lollipop update.
If I were in your situation, I would download the Vodafone BTU or Polish XEO and use the app manager to freeze the apps you don't require. Lollipop is OK and it is very smooth, apart from the material design and WAY too much white, but as you are aware, you will end up with an updated bootloader. You need the updated bootloader etc or your camera will misbehave! I have the Vodafone BTU, Echoe Rom based rom and have no issues. I have also tried the stock Vodafone BTU and the Polish one and report no Issues. My wifes N3 is running the XEO, and it is rock solid. The polish rom only has a couple of polish apps that can be deleted without any worries. Best of all, they are official, and can be flashed via Odin without tripping Knox.
I also heard that Vodafone 'paid' to be first for 5.0. The reason vodafone probably did this is because they are now pushing sim only tarrifs and have an advertising campaign on the telly. O2 have also started the sim only push, but their updates are usually so late, people forget what phone they were for!! The Polish XEO usually get the updates pretty quick as there is an R&D department tied with samsung, and sim only is big over there.
Samsung are losing me.
I'm also not happy to wait so long. Checking every day and no luck. Very disappointed in Samsung. Sick of my buggy Kitkat firmware from them that can't remember default apps to save its life and having to constantly choose Chrome to view internet links.
Oh yes, they are good enough to update the 1 year old Note 3 and say that they will even update the Note 2 with Lollipop eventually, but who would want it, when Android M will be released right after, as they took so long.
Funny how LG and Motorola especially were able to be so quick to give their devices the Lollipop update.
My next phone won't be from Samsung.
I got bored of waiting for the UK release so this morning and have flashed recent Polish update, I'd advise you guys to do that same.
Doesn't trip knox, don't have to do a full wipe, English language maintained, very simple.

Been more and more tempted to do this, but wasn't sure if there would be a problem flashing it on a UK unbranded Note 3?
Also is there a way to back up data and restore it? I read helium could do it, but not sure how well it works. I just want to keep my game saves and etc.
Also there will be no problem flashing the UK version of lollipop when it eventually comes out?
I do have the beta version of lollipop already though. Not sure about the whole CSC thing either
I have the retail UK unbranded note 3, no problem at all flashing the Polish bob6 rom over it, just follow the simple steps on sam's firmware.
In terms of backing up I think you would need to root and use something like titanium, I didn't bother, as I said you don't need to wipe so all things like sms, game progress etc is not erased.
If you want to flash the UK version when it comes out I suspect there will be no problem at all to do so, I doubt I'll bother though, to all intents and purposes this behaves like the stock UK firmware would.
Just flashed it with the lollipop poland firmware before. Phone felt RED HOT after updating, ha ha. Seemed a little laggy after the first boot, but a restart seemed to fix all that.
It feels a little faster than previously actually, will see if the battery life is better on tuesday where the battery is put to the test really.
Good to see there doesnt seem to be any issues! Will flash to the UK version when samsung decide to release it...really bad these sort of exclusivity deals go on.
Hi folks,
My Shield 32 GB just arrived and is charged up. I've signed on with a google account and done nothing else.
I will eventually root it but want to put it through its paces for a month or so first.
It arrived with KK 4.4.2 (wow! so old!) on it. It offers an OTA update from October 2014. Says it is OTA 1.21. I've seen LOTS of other OTA numbers much later around these forums. Do I have to take the 1.21 OTA before I can get to the more recent ones?
And, by taking the OTA, am I doing anything irreversible that I probably shouldn't do, since I'm eventually a rooting and maybe ROMing kind of guy?
Thanks. I've read up and it looks like I probably want to go all the way to the 5.1 release, once they sort out the speaker-killing bug. But for the moment I'd like to make sure I'm not missing anything before taking the OTA.
Thanks!
Marc
I decided to download the update after I successfully activated the device on AT&T's cellular network.
That was a bit of a hassle... couldn't do it from the device (the ATT app said something about incompatibility with the SIM card), the PC online web registration wouldn't accept it because NVidia Shield wasn't listed in the device types, and it took the efforts of 3 ATT folks to get me activated. First one passed me to the second one when he found out it was a device not purchased from ATT (but... dude... here's the SIM and IMEI number that's all you need...), the second one set me up and told me to call another number to accept terms and conditions. Did that, still no joy, found the default APN isn't set up right. Fixed that, still no joy, eventually talked to person 3 that found out they didn't attach a data plan to the device when they set it up... as part of my family shared data account. Duh.
Anyway, I applied the 1.21 and then it prompted me to download the 2.1 update to Android 5.01. It has downloaded. I think I want to copy it over to my PC before I let it apply.
Marc
Hmmm. Poked around and found the 1.21 update but not the 2.1 full LTE OTA. Perhaps I'd need root to get at the files. Oh well. I can always download it if I need it. Applying the 2.1 update now.
And I've made it all the way to the 2.2.1 hotfix. Seems stable enough for the moment.
I understand OTA 3.0 got pulled; so I guess I'll be staying on Lollipop 5.01 until they release the fix.
It's a bit surprising that I had to do all the updates sequentially and that there wasn't any direct-to-the-latest. But it didn't take long. I wonder if all these OTAs are clogging up my memory somewhere?
OK, on to exploration!
Marc
the update got pulled indeed, caused all kind of problems, including blown speakers
nvidia employee told us on nvidia forum they would release a new OTA 3.1, targeted end of june
lastest news: it's now targeted end of july....
I am in the US on an unlocked S7 G930U.
Earlier this week I received notice of a Software Update.
I am always hesitant to install these updates until I know what they are and see what people are saying about their performance.
I havent seen anything about this here (am I missing it somewhere) although on GSMArena there is a scary sounding thread with people installing a recent update and having major battery issues.
Is there anyway to see what this update is before it gets installed? Any ideas? Thanks.
BTW - the update is ~452MB.

I'm kind of new here, but after reading up on the Samsung support forums apparently G930U will only be receiving quarterly security updates so this update is all of the regular updates the carrier versions have received since September rolled up into 1 large package. It's still 6.0.1, and so far, I haven't seen any adverse effects (although I'm not rooted, so no clue if it effects anything along the lines of the boot loader) Also, during my internet search on what this update was, I came across this site that lists out the firmware (and Android level) of every release for a Samsung product, which confirmed not the nougat update. - can't make a real link since I'm new to posting on XDA, so search Google for "live-samsung updates"
Hope that helps!

I updated my G930U and have had no issues. Took it off the charger this morning at 8am, it's now nearly 1pm and battery is at 97%. Obviously I haven't used it much but there's certainly no unusual standby battery issue so far.
