THIS IS A DMA WIFI HERO BUILD:
Thanks goto addisu and dzo for getting a working Wifi module and all the hard working developers who get Android ported to the various devices.
Thanks to JAC for making the base rom (JACHeroski1.6)
This pack was tested and worked before uploading!
Directions:
0) If you have a data.img delete it first!
1) Copy all files from "Required" to the root of your memory card. I recommend at-least a 512mb.
2) Launch haret and click "Run"
2.1) You will need to wait for the data.img (data store) to be created, this takes around 2 minutes. This stores your files.
3) It takes sometime to get to the setup screen. If the screen turns off, just turn it back on. It will come up.
4) Go through the intro of Android (you only do this once)
The first 3 steps get you into Android
The following gets you Wifi (Kaiser/Tilt only)
* In this build, you can now select your WiFi in the setup.
In side Android:
1) Bring the menu up
2) Goto settings
3) Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls then click "Wi-fi" wait until there is a check
4) Select your network under Wi-Fi Settings
6) Make sure you save your "calibration" file and keep a copy of it save so you can just move it to future builds.
House cleaning:
I did not develop any of this kit, I simply put the pieces together and made them available in an easy to use package.
If you need any help please leave a comment in the forum!
To setup APN you must configure it, this can be found on the Android Vogue Wiki( http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/wikii/HowToInstall )

Well, the previous one is not for strictly a build, its more for the wikis and stuff. This thread is strictly for downloading a complete package.
cool, I'll bite!
Trying to follow the steps when i type "su"
i get "uid 10027 not allowed to su" , I did a search for this phrase and the only hit i got was the same error, but person asking was ignored.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
I'm running on a Tilt.
Thanks !!
Excellent, any mirror not from rapid or mega?, my network has the storage web filter , a FTP mirror will be great!
Thanks in advance,

So the hero zip file is a rom? and if so can you flash it to a kaiser ?
keep it up...
if its like HTC HERO, it would be nice
Thanks natalic, it works.
Some additional points:
1) Ensure you're getting the file from the rapidshare link. I tried the latest build from the project site (android-1.5-2009-08-04.zip) and I never managed to extract the calibration file
2) There's a hero build here (http://drop.io/calibrationfiles) but I would suggest to get the calibration file out 1st before trying the hero build. It seems that you wont be able to access the terminal easily from Hero builds... (Maybe it's just me)
What works and not in the Android build (non-hero):-
1) Browser works
2) Market works
3) Google Sync works
4) Google maps does not work

yes it is, android is starting to need a forum all to itself, or you can look at it like this if the android threads are builds from diff "android chefs" then it would be no different than multiple rom threads for diff chefs or diff wm versions.
Heres my working repack. Enjoy

Wifi is working great, Tested on an AT&T tilt with no SIM card inserted. Was able to connect to the internet, download from the market, etc.
How do I get SIM to work and get the phone signal?

Same goes here.
I am now using HERO UI with a calibration file extracted from the standard build. Apps are not being downloaded... Google maps also not working... (Always Force Close)
Paradox: You forgot to mention about rebooting the phone after running getrom.txt as per your instruction in the zip file.

Is it reasonably responsive on your kaiser? I tried one build of it today, and it was awful. I mean all the features are cool, but no amount of features can replace responsivness...

The Hero UI works. Its just not that fast. I can vouch for that. I dont know how he has wifi working on it. I could have sworn the driver had to be cooked into the system.img
Hello.
First of all, thanks again to TigerTael for making this possible.
Flashing this will make VPN connections possible from your phone.
The config is based on the latest gbo, with a few tweaks and the new kernel module and auto load from init.rc.
So to install just push wlan.ko and tun.ko to /system/lib/modules and flash boot.
You can ofcourse test this kernel by fastbooting into it.
Download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=047LXTK0
I have managed to connect to our Cisco VPN concentrator at work using this kernel and http://get-a-robot-vpnc.googlecode.com/files/VPN_Connections_v08.apk.
To get VPN Connections working I had to:
Install Busybox
Create /etc/vpnc
Copy /data/data/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend/files/vpnc-script to /etc/vpnc
Run vpnc from /data/data/org.codeandroid.vpnc_frontend/files via terminal
I am pretty sure there's an easier way, however the GUI just didnt work for me.
This is my first ever release to this forum, please dont bite me if it doesnt run on your device for some reason. And you do this on your own risk
Cheers,
Mockillo

Yes, the GUI seems to make quite a number of assumptions that are plain wrong.
I've built VPN connections from an svn (rev 125) checkout and the original sources for libcrypt, libgpg-error and vpnc. I also built a kernel from the android-msm-2.6.27 git source (with the TT v2 patch, not that it matters, and a config from my Armon_RA 1.2.1 ROM kernel) and then built tun.ko externally so I could include it in the package. So far the module still has the srcversion info so the kernel version strings must match. I've pushed the module to /system/lib/modules so the module loading changes I've made to VPN connections haven't been tested for the case the module isn't present.
VPN connections seems quite fragile and I really don't like the coding style so I'm trying to change that as I go. After making a few changes to VPN connections I am able get the gui side working. But a really odd and annoying thing is that, while I can get it to work over my WiFi, I can't get it to work over my phone network connection. The configurations setup by vpnc are essentially the same, but no go!

Hi everyone! I'm here again to give you good news.
I would like to thank Incubus for his generosity and for his support. We would be nowhere if people like him didn't share their knowledge.
I got into some files and updates and I finally stumbled upon a working set of files that will allow you to start Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in our devices. I made it so we can install it without the need of updates. This build I modified is ready to work with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
* For your convenience, I've uploaded the new updated build for you to try it out:
Incubus26Jc's Super Eclair Lite 2.1 Release 5:* http://www.mediafire.com/?jzzygmkjyzm
You've got to use with the latest NBH > http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/?C=M;O=D. Please, make sure you have a NBH file released on 07-05-2010.
Don't forget that I only merged all the stuff and it worked like magic.
I really hope it will work for you too.
I'm now installing things via Wi-Fi and sending files to my Polaris using bluetooth!
Please, tell me if it works.

_camera doesn't work (error message processocom.android.camera)
performance
How about the speed of this éclair build working on our Polaris?
Comparing Myn's Warm Donut.
It's a bit slower than Myn's.

It's strange. Wifi works for me. The camera won't work because it has not been ported to Eclair yet.
By the way, is there anybody that has tried out my modification with success? Please, send feedback.
Bluetooth File Transfer
How program you use for send/receive files via BT?
To receive you just have to turn BT on and pair the two devices. It will notify you when an incoming file is waiting (you've got to accept it).
To send I use an app that is named Bluetooth OPP Put Lite. Install it, go to ASTRO File Explorer and choose Send from the context menu. You will see a new option to send the file. I used it and it really works!
Thanks for advice!
Well, wifi scanning is not working Wifi turns on but it does not scan. BT works fine.
Thanx
maybe we could try with WiFi scanner, but without connection we can't go to the market (free)...
I used the .nhb of dzo's latest version (2010-05-07), then bt and wifi are working well.
But I found that Incubus' Super Eclair was much slower than Myn's

Could the radio rom be the issue? Which one do you use and which ones others? Lets compare?
Did you combine Kaiser wifi update for eclair and wlan.ko from dzo? That combination worked for me few days ago, and what was interesting that without dzo's wlan.ko wifi coud be enabled, but no scan.

1.59.46.12. Wifi enables, but does not scan for networks.
This post is to address how to fix two major issues on the G2X without rooting or flashing . . .
A. How to fix the APN issue which causes the default APN to jump back to T-Mobile . . . after setting up a custom APN such as Simple Mobile . . .
B. How to get the DNS to work on WiFi so that you do not need to restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off to get it to work.
For the brief time that I had the T-Mobile G2X I notices a couple of issues that were annoying as heck. Loved the phone, but hated that LG was too slow to fix these issues, so I came up with my own fixes / workarounds. I hope that this helps out the community.
A. To fix the APN issue:
Note: Make sure you follow all of the steps exactly / correctly or else it will not work.
1. Simply download APN Manager from the Market.
2. Make a backup of your configuration using APN manager
3. Delete all of the APNs on your phone using APN manager including the T-Mobile APN. (If you ever need it again you can restore it from your backup. You did make a backup right?)
4. Configure your new one and only SimpleMobile APN and set it as the
default
5. Enjoy your Fixed G2X phone
B. To fix the WiFi DNS Issue:
Note: Make sure you follow all of the steps exactly / correctly or else it will not work.
1. Simply Download DNS Setting by Daingo from the Market
2. Run the app
3. Enter the following settings:
I.P. Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway I.P: 0.0.0.0
Primary DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS Server: 8.8.4.4
4. Save and exit
5. Enjoy your Fixed G2X phone
Notes: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are the I.P. Addresses for Google DNS servers, I am told that these DNS servers are blocked by T-Mobile / SimpleMobile, but they will work over WiFi with no problems and the DNS Setting app will only apply it to your WiFi settings, but if you decide to use a different app then keep that in mind.
Also, you may need to set your gateway address to your WiFi routers address, but generally if you set an address as 0.0.0.0 it will default to DHCP (or automatically assign)
This worked for me, and I certainly hope it works for you. I hope I saved many people many headaches.
Now if someone could only figure out how to calibrate the accelerometer.

I haven't seen this issue, but typically if it won't connect a hard reboot (vol+ and power simultaneously until the set reboots) fixes it.

The only other thing I can suggest is to use cleanup batch or nullifier and reinstall. Can't guarantee that it would fix the issue though.

Think G2x Scrubber as the same as the batch and e nullifier. Because I always used g2x scrubber to wipe my phone before even installing a custom rom so I don't believe is a problem emanating from there. Anyway thanks for ur consistent aid u giving me,just it doesn't solve ma problem fella.

Scrubber is not the same as batch, which is not the same as nullifier. Batch is my favorite because it removes and reconstructs all partitions.

Your restore from nandroid is likely restoring your problem. Try a fresh install. Most folks here seem to like CM7.

hi,
well, as you know there is problem with CyanogenMod(and some other aosp roms) wifi in some countries and the problem is due to wifi_country_code value inside global database.
so after reading HTCZ715E amazing guide i made this flashable zip for those who still have problem with wifi in ivanich's CyanogenMod.
Installation
flash it via recovery(no need to wipe)

@jinxul if it's only related to the record in the global table of settings storage database, I thought, wouldn't it be easier to use an init.d script with an addon.d script?
For example:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
# Set wifi country code
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "update global set value=nz where name='wifi_country_code';"

the main problem is in the telephony-common.jar. every time that wifi turns on framework will rewrite the record on its own... so framework has to be patched(and all that will do is to stop rewriting wifi_country_code on every time wifi turns on).
i also put an script in the zip(similar to this) to change the value back to null but that's just for those who don't want to wipe their data(cause its wont work if there is already a value for wifi_country_code)
so init.d wont do anything as long as framework isnt patched.

reboot is required when you change it manually.. system wont just read it like that unless you tell it to do so, and you cant do that with sqlite3. you need an app/service with WRITE_SETTINGS permission (android.permission.WRITE_SETTINGS).
Let me chime in:
Similar Wi-Fi issues have been persistent across my previous two devices running Android 5+. Setting the Wireless channel of your network to 11 or below (U.S. standard) fixed it. If you don't live in a too dense area - eg. have free uninterfered channels in that scale - then I suggest using those. EU channels (12,13) break far too often due to this specific issue which seems either upstream or hardware-specific. To your information, the three (with this) tested devices all have BCM4329 Wireless modems.
If anyone tries this instead, let me know if it worked here as well.
