No root fix for WiFi and APN - easy SimpleMobile APN Fix - T-Mobile LG G2x

This post is to address how to fix two major issues on the G2X without rooting or flashing . . .
A. How to fix the APN issue which causes the default APN to jump back to T-Mobile . . . after setting up a custom APN such as Simple Mobile . . .
B. How to get the DNS to work on WiFi so that you do not need to restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off to get it to work.
For the brief time that I had the T-Mobile G2X I notices a couple of issues that were annoying as heck. Loved the phone, but hated that LG was too slow to fix these issues, so I came up with my own fixes / workarounds. I hope that this helps out the community.
A. To fix the APN issue:
Note: Make sure you follow all of the steps exactly / correctly or else it will not work.
1. Simply download APN Manager from the Market.
2. Make a backup of your configuration using APN manager
3. Delete all of the APNs on your phone using APN manager including the T-Mobile APN. (If you ever need it again you can restore it from your backup. You did make a backup right?)
4. Configure your new one and only SimpleMobile APN and set it as the
default
5. Enjoy your Fixed G2X phone
B. To fix the WiFi DNS Issue:
Note: Make sure you follow all of the steps exactly / correctly or else it will not work.
1. Simply Download DNS Setting by Daingo from the Market
2. Run the app
3. Enter the following settings:
I.P. Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway I.P: 0.0.0.0
Primary DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS Server: 8.8.4.4
4. Save and exit
5. Enjoy your Fixed G2X phone
Notes: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are the I.P. Addresses for Google DNS servers, I am told that these DNS servers are blocked by T-Mobile / SimpleMobile, but they will work over WiFi with no problems and the DNS Setting app will only apply it to your WiFi settings, but if you decide to use a different app then keep that in mind.
Also, you may need to set your gateway address to your WiFi routers address, but generally if you set an address as 0.0.0.0 it will default to DHCP (or automatically assign)
This worked for me, and I certainly hope it works for you. I hope I saved many people many headaches.
Now if someone could only figure out how to calibrate the accelerometer.

I haven't seen this issue, but typically if it won't connect a hard reboot (vol+ and power simultaneously until the set reboots) fixes it.

Just did that,but no positive. Its displays ( TURNING ON WIFI........eventually when it ON) it doesnt find any available wifi connections respective to yet available wifi spots......

The only other thing I can suggest is to use cleanup batch or nullifier and reinstall. Can't guarantee that it would fix the issue though.

Think G2x Scrubber as the same as the batch and e nullifier. Because I always used g2x scrubber to wipe my phone before even installing a custom rom so I don't believe is a problem emanating from there. Anyway thanks for ur consistent aid u giving me,just it doesn't solve ma problem fella.

Scrubber is not the same as batch, which is not the same as nullifier. Batch is my favorite because it removes and reconstructs all partitions.

Faux 0.14 beta AFAIK. But look in the kernel threads.
Edit: did you do fresh install after the wipe tools or restore from nandroid?

Everyone searches, but few have mastered the art of search. Google makes money because of the people of the first kind!

Yes I did, after it I restore from nandroid. But no solution, with the kernel can u give a link to e thread?

Dude...mansa has been babying you this entire thread. Showering you in helpful information while providing links that could be easily found with a quick search. Look through the stickies and find the thread with all the roms and kernels for our device and stop begging for links. Its annoying.

Your restore from nandroid is likely restoring your problem. Try a fresh install. Most folks here seem to like CM7.

[ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] CM 7 Daily Kang Builds: Updated 5/6/2011

Hey everyone,
I started doing daily builds from the CM 7 source code just for myself but then people asked me to share them so I figured I would post them and share them with you crackflashers out there so you have something to flash as you wait for the official nightly
This is UNOFFICIAL and is NOT supported by CyanogenMod. DO NOT SUBMIT BUG REPORTS FOR THESE BUILDS TO CYANOGEN MOD.
This is kanged straight from the Cm 7 source. It has not been changed or modified in any way, just compiled. I will try to update the 2nd post everyday around 2 or 3pm EST with a fresh link
Same installation instructions that apply to the nightlies go for these builds as well so I'll quote the text from Chris Soyars' thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058131
"Important!
It is strongly recommended that you flash clockwork recovery via NVFlash. If for some reason this or a future nightly build causes your phone to not boot up, you will not be able to boot into recovery unless you have it flashed via NVFlash.
NVFlash for Linux
NVFlash for Windows
To clear up some confusion, if you flashed your recovery via ROM Manager, you didn't actually flash a recovery. It is what we call a fakeflash, you should still probably flash with NVFlash.
Instructions
Download from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p999 and flash like you would any other ROM (via recovery or ROM Manager).
Be sure to backup before flashing, and of course a wipe is necessary when coming from stock.
Gapps are available from the usual places, however do not download the version that says it is for Tegra, even though this is a tegra device, as it will not flash.
Mod Edit:
Originally Posted by Mikey1022 View Post

ChrisSoyars Edit:
After skimming some of the posts in this thread, here are some things that you can expect.
What to expect
- Everything working including Wifi, GPS, Audio, Camera, Front Facing Camera
- Screen off animation is not enabled, therefore it isn't broken.
- Occasional audio problems (as far as I know they have not been fixed). If audio does not play just reboot.
- Automagical brightness weridness, this is controlled by the kernel and not userspace, even having it working is very hacky."
Again this is NOT supported by cyanogen in ANY WAY. Flash at your own risk. I take no responsibility if you brick your device. ALWAYS BACK UP BEFORE FLASHING. I wont be fixing anything in these builds or changing anything, I'll leave that to the cyanogen crew to do So if you have issues or bugs no sense in reporting them as I'm sure they will be addressed in future official CM 7 builds

Alot of ppl that are kanging g2x cm7 have the date and time as part of the file name, then when we put it on the sd card we don't get confused if we have multiple updates from diff ppl, in the same folder. just a friendly suggestion. and would help ppl out.
Oh and i did try this kang out it is getting better and better, but still some minor things that make it a non-daily driver for me, but they are small and will hopefully get resolved in the near future....but man I love CM7 on this phone!

Flashed it over nightly3, it booted Seems to be running fine, no problems encountered so far. Thanks!
well, I seem to be having the same problems I had with the nightlys. The apns delete themselves therefore removing my data connection. I have tried rebooting several times etc. I re-add the apn settings and they won't save. I can only connect to data with wifi. Idk what the deal is.

I just went out and got a new simcard and sdcard because of this and the connection is faster, as well as the apns only deleting a handfull of times. A battery pull always brings them back.

I always had that happen on all the CM7 versions I tried. I had to go in and select the network manually to AT&T and then after it failed to register on the network I selected Automatic. Then the APNs would come back and I could get online. I don't know why this works but restarting never fixed it for me, it only caused the APNs to go away.

Only chat is working at the moment.
Now I have a question:
Is this the same as the one fitsnugly shares in his twitter? Or just the same compile made by two different people?
About the gtalk video, I have found a link in twitter for latest gapps that lets you do video in gtalk. *untested by me*

[Kernel] Dragon-G2x v1.1.1 (OTA/Weapon) [9/2/2011]

First off, big thanks to Faux123. This is based on his repo with a few tweaks of my own. I'll be adding more as we go on. And of course, he's welcome to pull any patches he likes from my github.
Changes:
Added zram compressed swap support. I'll attach a script to turn it on and one to see what its status is. It's not like the older ramzswap that requires a special tool, everything is done through sysfs now. Very nice.
Added zcache compressed cache. This is a bigger win IMO, it compresses any compressible data in the cache. This means you can keep much more data in cache, which means you have to read it in from slow flash much less often.
Tweaked the low memory killer to take swap space into account, but only some of it.... This prevents swap thrashing while the system tries to kill processes and free up ram/swap. I also suggest using something like AutoKiller to set the levels to the best performance for your workload. We all run different apps and such, and that can affect how these things work for each user. There is no setup that is going to be perfect for 100% of users. Speaking of AutoKiller, I have found the advanced tweaks to help a fair bit as well. Don't use the memory management one, it overides your settings for things like swappyness. And the IO Scheduler doesn't do anything as we aren't using cfq. Unless you turn on cfq...
On Swap and compression:
While badly configured swap can slow things down, it's far more complex than people think. It also frees up RAM that's not being used frequently for apps that are. So your system can more efficiently use the resources it has. While compression does use some CPU time, our dual core 1Ghz+ CPUs can compress/decompress REALLY fast. Far faster than reading from the flash storage. In theory, this can affect battery life, though I haven't seen any significant issues from it.
Q: But we have 512M, that's a LOT!
A: Well, kind of... Not all of it is accessible to the kernel for running apps. 128M for the GPU, some for the cameras, wifi, etc... In the end, a little less than 400M is available. Then you have to add in system overhead from the kernel itself, Android's OS processes, etc.. That is quite limiting, IMO, so using it more efficiently is important to me.
Q: I don't like compression/swap.
A: Then don't run this kernel.

Yes. I've poked around, but haven't figured out why. It's certainly nothing I'm intentionally doing. I tried using the same initrd from the Weapon stock kernel, no joy. That's about the only thing the kernel should be able to change that would make a difference.

Data missing
Hey ttabbal, maybe you can help me a little bit with the issue im having with cyanogenmod based roms,
I've been trying to know a bit more bout RILs and ended up learning that it resides at the kernel. My objetive of learning about it is because no matter I do i cant have data conection on any CM7 based ROM but I DO have data on any Froyo / Gingerbread OTA rom, even tryed to change basebands, change sim card, push the apps related to the telephony from GB OTA to Cyanogen and replace Ril Libs also. Nothing had worked. And this is where you can help me a little: while using your kernel I have the exact same issue! No data whatsoever! No matter what ROM I use, in the other hand using Faux's kernel i got no issue, and bec you based yours in his work im sure you know what exactly changed between them and enlight me or make me understang what can I possibly do to fix my issue.
Thanks!
BTW I live in Guatemala CA, using a data plan from CLARO (America Movil) carrier
Look here at the Wikipedia Link to look at the baseband Im using.

I'm happy to share any information I can. Your issue is interesting as I can't think of any changes that should affect the radio. Most of the radio code isn't in the kernel. It's handled by a daemon called rild. We could try reverting some patches. The first thing to try would be to test all the older versions of the kernel. I'll get links posted for you when I get to a computer. If one of those work, we can look at the differences between them to try and narrow it down.

I'm not so sure the kernel is going to affect your issue much. As ttabbal said it lies in the RILD binary. CM7/Miui has known issues with no data connectivity though it seems to happen pretty random. Have you tried doing a hard reboot? (hold power + vol up approximately 10 seconds) On occasion I have the same issue with no data signal (though cell is just fine). Usually a hard reboot (or two) solves the problem though.

Yup, its someting else, i even managed to solve the APN dissapearing issue in other way: install market enabler, change SIM code to anything and ther revert back to defualt an it will show u again your APNs just like if you hard rebooted.
I even tried copying rild (/system/bin) from OTA GB rom to a CM7 rom and flash, and nothing, and why using your rom and faux's kernel i got data and if using ttabbal's one i have none? has to do something with the kernel! but thanks for ur posts anyways I know ur busy guys

Your description sounds like the known cm7 apn bug to me. Installing a kernel usually triggers the bug for me as it involves soft reboots. With dragon, do the data workarounds work? Exactly what ROM are you running?
I think im not leaving things clear, my above post was what I did to fix apn dissapearing when i flashed cm7... and even if i hard rebooted (or used the market enabler trick) and apns where restored still couldnt get data to work...
Im usign whitehawk's rom now, but if i pair it with your kernel, the issue i have is not that apn dissapear (like they did in cm7, bec of the known issue) but that I cant get data to connect.

OK, just making sure. Here are the older versions of the kernel. Try them out and see if any resolve the data issue you are seeing.

1.0.2: http://goo.gl/O6PDb

I honestly don't expect them to, but if the only change is the kernel, it seems like it could be related. Could you also attach a file with logs when it's trying to connect? Perhaps also with a log when booting from Faux's kernel when it works right?
adb logcat > log.txt
adb logcat -b radio > radio.txt
I might be able to see something in there...
Just to make sure we're on the same page, by Whitehawkx's rom you mean Weapon 2.4? I just noticed your sig says 2.3... I don't see sigs when I'm on my phone, so I missed that before. Have you tried updating to 2.4? It might help... it might not...

[GUIDE][Nov.6] CM7 Bible - How-To & Fixes - Radio Bootloop Fix, Browser Fix and MORE!
FIRST POST IS HOW-TO, SECOND POST CONTAINS ALL THE FIXES AND WORKAROUNDS
GENERAL INFORMATION AND HOW-TO INSTALL / UPDATE CM7
Alright kids,
We are all very happy that CM7 finally came out to play. And we thank kmobs and the whole CM7 team for all the hard work. They are just... AWESOME!
But while we have that, we also have a lot of people that are either first time android users, or that are just too busy to follow the thread, or just are too lazy (nothing wrong with that, im lazy too )
So here is a guide on how to install CM7, and I will gather all the fixes from the other thread, and will also if I forget something - let me know what I am forgetting and will add it in this thread.
Now here we go:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~I am not to be held responsible if you brick your device following these guides. If you brick it - blame Santa, not me!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INSTALLING CM7
To install CM7 on your device, you need to first download it from HERE. Once you do that - please follow the next steps:
Code:
1. - Put the ROM on your SD card
2. - Reboot into CWM Recovery
3. - Do a Nandroid backup of your current rom. Just in case.
4. - Wipe Data/Factory Reset
5. - Wipe Cache
6. - Go into Mounts
7. - Format /system
----- I always do that, and dont have a single issue..
8. - Flash your Rom
9. - Go into Advanced, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Fix Permissions
10. - Reboot phone
Alright, once you are done with the reboot, it will start loading the ROM. Let it be for around 10 minutes, so its done with everything. Dont set it up, Dont do ANYTHING. Just watch some youtube, or have a beer, or call that girlfriend of yours. Now after the 10 minutes are done (or at least 40 minutes if you talked with the girlfriend ) - reboot the phone again.
INSTALLING GOOGLE APPS
Now its time to get Market, Gmail and all the other goods.
Here is the newest google apps - HERE
Now download the newest Talk with video - HERE
Once you do that - Put them on your SD card and reboot into CWM Recovery and follow the steps:
Code:
1. - Do a nandroid backup of your current ROM. Just in case things go south.
2. - Flash the Google Apps
3. - [B][I][U]AFTER THAT[/U][/I][/B] flash the gapps with new Talk
4. - Wipe Cache
5. - Go to advanced
6. - Wipe Dalvik Cache
7. - Fix Permissions
8. - Reboot Phone
Now set them up, and you are set. You have MARKET!
UPDATING FROM AN OLDER BUILD
If you already had the CM7 on your device, and want to install to the latest Alpha - follow the instructions:
Code:
1. - Download New Update
2. - Reboot into CWM Recovery
3. - DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!
4. - Install the new update
5. - Wipe Cache
6. - Go into Advanced, and wipe Dalvik Cache
7. - Reboot and enjoy the newest Alpha!
8. - If it runs worst than the build you had before, and you didnt do a backup - blame yourself and Santa for destroying Christmas, and start over.
RECOMMENDED RADIO
persiansown said:
I recommend using radio 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01 because this is the radio that we personally tested.
Please note flashing someone else's kernel may ruin your experience with this rom and I advise against it. This rom was a joint effort between Bumblebee, cretin45, toastcfh, defer, myself, and the rest of the CM team.
To install it - just put the zip on your SD card, reboot into bootloader, select Bootloader and it will ask you if you want to apply the update. Press volume UP to apply update, dont shut off the phone, and when its done - press Power to reboot.
DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF THE FILE
STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP AFTER RADIO UPDATE
If you are stuck in a bootloop after the radio update, all you need to do is the following:
Code:
1. - Open the back cover
2. - Remove the SD Card
3. - Pull the battery out for 5 secs and put it back in
4. - Put the cover back on
5. - Press Vol Down and Power at the same time. Keep holding on Vol Down till you get in bootloader
6. - Select Recovery
7. - Wipe Cache
8. - Put your SD Card back in
9. - Reboot phone and its all working again. Yey.
Here is another solution, thanks to joshndroid for the tip !
tony..
may i suggest in your guide thread to cm7 as a possible solution to the radio to flash AFTER you flash the ROM/UPDATE...
also;
maybe can i suggest to take the radio.img file out of the flash zip and flash it with fastboot...
1. Open zip file and place the radio.img into the location of your adb/fastboot (platform-tools or tools, depending how you set your fastboot up)
2. Place your phone into fastboot.. by connecting phone to computer and typing
adb reboot bootloader
OR
by turing your phone off and holding volume down + power on buttons
3. flash radio by typing these fastboot commands
fastboot flash radio radio.img
4. once that is finished restart phone by typing
fastboot reboot
i did both of these things and accrued no problems and as you know im not a TMOUS and it seems that every EU phone owner blames the ROM for being american in region, which we both know that is not a problem..
INSTALLING CUSTOM KERNEL
PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE INSTALLING THE CM7/AOSP KERNEL, AND NOT THE SENSE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are having any issues with the current CM7 build - you can always flash a custom kernel. Head over to Faux123's Thread and download the newest kernel. Just to be on the safe side - download the regular newest kernel, don't go with the extreme edition (if this is your fist time flashing a kernel), as it might be unstable for your device.
How to do that, you will ask?
Code:
1. - Download the kernel
2. - Put the .zip on your SD card
3. - Boot into CWM Recovery
4. - Format Cache
5. - Flash the .zip file
6. - Go into Advanced
7. - Format Dalvik Cache
8. - Reboot your phone, and enjoy your new kernel
Big ups to Faux123 for all his great work, I have been following him since the MyTouch 4G, its always a pleasure to see what he has cooking for us!
FIXING SOUND VOLUME
To fix the sound volume - you need to do the following:
Code:
1. - Go to Settings
2. - Go to Cyanogen Mod Settings
3. - Go to Sound
4. - Scroll down and find "Always play on speaker"
5. - Check Notifications, Ringtones, Alarms
Now you have a full working Sound. People say that right after you connect your headphones - it removes these settings. So you might have to do them one more time. Just do it! There is no known permanent fix right now. Hopefully in one of the nightlies it will be addressed.
HOMESCREEN LAG
If your homescreen is lagging, like mine did - I suggest using a different launcher. I removed ADW and installed Launcher Pro. I havent had a single moment of lag after that.
Or you can head over to the second post, and download the 2D or 3D replacement Launcher, which will make things better. Big thanks to xboarder56 for sharing them with all of us!
BATTERY ISSUES
First - If you have problems with your battery draining too fast - maybe its because you installed another kernel. So try reverting back to stock kernel (Follow the "flashing CM7" guide, just dont wipe anything).
If issues are still there - Try to recalibrate your battery. You can do that by two different ways:
1st - Charge your battery to 100%, drain it all the way till it shuts off. Now dont turn the phone on, just plug it in, and leave it like that for 7-8hrs. Best done overnight. In the morning - turn on the phone, and repeat everything again. That should fix it.
2nd - Download "Battery Calibration" App from the market. Install, and follow the guides
BETTER CAMERA FIX
Alright, thanks to jjdeveau for this fix. If you do not like the camera that comes with CM7 - you can use the MIUI Camera.
Here is how to install it:
jjdeveau said:
Okay so.. For all of you who want a better camera. Here is the miui camera apk.
DO NOT JUST INSTALL IT!
#1 Open rom manager and Back up your Rom
#2 copy to system/app replacing the stock one.
#3 change the permissions but tapping and holding on the app and going to properties then hit change make sure the permissions looks the same as the other aps in the folder.
#4 open app let it install.
#5 I had to reboot phone then it showed up in my aps as miui camera.
The downside is the camera zoom still does not work and it does not support the front facing camera. tap to focus is working as well as the stock effects. it also has the panoramic view and is about as close to the sense camera as you can get right now.
CORRECT APN SETTINGS FOR TMOBILE-US USERS
Fixed my issues with Wifi-Calling MMS.
I talked to TMobile and they gave me the correct info for the APN settings.
I deleted both of the APNs listed under wireless settings and created a new one.
Just in case any of you are having issues with SMS or MMS using Wifi-Calling.. give this a shot.
Create a new APN.
Name: T-Mobile
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.050
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication Type: leave blank
APN: default,supl,mms (Very important to not have a space in there.. just the ,)
hit the menu button and hit save. then use that apn. You should now have working MMS and SMS.
Hope that helps. Cheers.
FLASH PROBLEM WITH STOCK BROWSER
There are two workarounds to this issue:
1st one is - just download and install opera mobile from the market. It runs flash with no issues.
2nd one is coming to us, thanks to LSears:
For those of you having problems with Flash, it seems to be happening on a few devices with CM7.1. It can be fixed by altering the config.data file of the plugin within any app using it.
So, with the default browser as an example, you'd need to change directory (in ADB shell or a terminal emulator) to...
/data/data/com.android.browser/app_plugins/com.adobe.flashplayer/.macromedia/Flash_Player/
and then alter the permissions of the config.data with...
chmod 000 config.data
I've also done the same things within the BBC News app and BBC iPlayer. All now work perfectly! I hope that helps those with problems.
GPS LOCK FIX / WORKAROUND
For people that have GPS lock issues - I have a little fix/workaround that worked out great for me and my issues. I hope it works for all of yall.
You need to go to the market, and download GPS Test by Chartcross Ltd (its free).
Open the program -> hit the menu button -> select Settings -> hit "Clear AGPS" and after that hit "Update AGPS". Give it a few minutes and you should have a much better reception and lock on more sats. I got 6 sats locked from the inside of my house.
If it stops showing you the GPS icon - thats fine, just reboot the phone and it will all be ok.
It's bit obivious...
but I would add doing Backup before wiping/formating etc... just if something goes wrong.
Why not put this in the cm7 thread in the op just pm the dev
Cause in my experience - there is NEVER any guides provided by the CM7 team. In every phone sections that you look at - there is always a separate thread for guides and fixes.
Plus all the questions that are answered in this thread are asked over 15329852 times in the ROM thread, and its probably good to have them all in one place, instead of people having to read through hundreds (soon to be Thousands) of pages...
I would add a step for making a nandroid backup. Good writeup though.
Just a little anecdotal support-- when I rooted my first Android device (Nexus One, if it matters) I started off in a Guide thread in the Development section. Of course, I did finally end up at the CM Wiki, which I don't think it could hurt to link to eventually.
However, the extra bits at the end about flashing the latest GTalk and workarounds for common bugs in the Alpha version are things that I don't think would necessarily make it to their official Wiki. I think the scope of this thread is perfectly helpful
Very useful guide.
what is the recommended radio for cm7? I searched the cm7 thread and read the question asked several times but no clear cut answer. Might be helpful to add that info for people like me
Also, on reboot I lose network connectivity and have had to flash twice already...full wipe both times. I think it might be radio related.
[AOKP] Cellular Data Not Working
Hey there, first post and the search function wasn't working so if this problem has been posted elsewhere just let me know.
I just flashed the Sept. 28 AOKP for the A2 along with 4.3 GAPPs and everything seems to be working swimmingly...
Except the mobile data.
I've enabled and disabled data, enabled and disabled airplane mode. Reflashed the firmware and GAPPs and still the data doesn't seem to want to work. I'm getting 5 full bars and for whatever reason it just won't connect.
Anybody else had issues like this?
You have to manually put in the APN 's for the ROM
Goto system settings mobile networks Access Point Names and manually input the settings depending upon your carrier the setting will differ...
Google your carrier specific APN settings and input them it should do the trick....:laugh:
[Q&A] CyanogenMod 12.0 for Photon Q
Q&A for CyanogenMod 12.0 for Photon Q
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for CyanogenMod 12.0 for Photon Q. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
So far so good for CM12, everything runs really smooth. Only issues are the default text app send button is grayed out and won't let you send but using Google messenger app it works fine. Is there any reason to why the send button wouldn't work?
LTE seems to work well but visually every now and then it seems to disconnect/reconnect but functions fine. And just a quick/dumb question which CDMA subscription should we use, RUIM/SIM or NV as I found info on RUIM/SIM but couldn't really find much on the definition of NV.
I really wanted to know that everybody has no problem at all in logging in Google+ with the latest version of its client.
I'm having trouble the most recent one that I can download from Play Store, : v5.1.0
I had to restore the backed up version of v5.0
I recently got the multimedia dock for this phone and I've noticed that some things don't work. None of the USB ports on the dock seem to interface with the OS, but any peripheral connected by a USB OTG cable (while not in the dock, of course) works just fine. Also, the device doesn't seem to detect that it is in a dock at all; I have it set to daydream when it's docked, but nothing happens.
Does anybody else have these issues? Is there a known or planned solution?
Thanks!
Hei just another quicky:
I had problems with twrp unable to mount /data on encrypted phone. I was never asked for passphrase also it did not detect data was formated as f2fs and assumed ext4.
After factory reset I reformated data and cache to f2fs again (as I think the performance gain is real) and cleanflashed latest cm12 nightly + gapps.
After setting up my phone it became slugish fast again, also battery did drain fast (also the phone did get real hot)
My circumvention so far is limiting Background processes to 2 within Dev options. Since then phone stays much cooler, everything works as expected normal cpu usage shows 2.5/3.2/3.5.
Before that phone was sometimes at 12/9/8 or so and thus bekame unresponsive/sluggish.
Does anyone know the standard count of background processes? Form Q?
Since i did not discover any strange behavior/lags since i switched to only 2 backgroundprocesses anyone knows what kind of usage could result in problems with lower backgroundprocesses?
Thanks in advance!
CM 12.0 nightlies I/O and issues
So I switched over to CM12 because of the ability to switch the filesystems to f2fs. And so far I have seen a pretty decent improvement in the response, speed, and general performance with CM12.
A few issues have come up though:
CM nightly 03232015
-the cLock widget just randomly stopped functioning. Worked for a day or two, then stopped working. I wasn't able to set the alarm and clicking on the time on the home screen does nothing. Disabled cLock and am using the default Deskclock instead (I need to be able to set alarms).
-the messaging app was not working correctly... I was able to receive texts but the send button was greyed out and would not let me click on it. This is both over Wi-Fi and 3G and 4G LTE. Had to revert to 8sms that I was using on CM10...
-the themes are applied inconsistently... not all apps or system dialogs are themed when I use ThemeDIY to create/apply my own theme.
-equalizer doesn't seem to make a big difference...
-doesn't seem to remember wifi logins... keep getting the "sign in to wireless network" notification (I've already signed in)... the sign in page does not open in Chrome, but rather a separate browser or system page that won't offer to save my password (though it does autofill the username)...
-weird issues using adb... even though I've authorized the computer, and have root access on the phone and am running adb root, it won't let me write to certain parts of the file system (I couldn't adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip error was "read-only filesystem")
I know it's a nightly, just wanted to see if anyone else has these same issues and to make sure the developers are seeing this. For the record, I did a wipe and format (since I was going to change the file system,) and this is a clean install of both TWRP and CM12.
Thanks!
I didn't know what to use either so I left it on NV. Haven't noticed a difference in signal or call quality or anything. I am guessing since we're on Sprint and there is no SIM card that RUIM/SIM won't work?
Im am currently running on NV too, but with german sim.
To the other problems you have, I don"t have those. Sms works. CLock works, alarms work... I am running without any themes just switched the stock trebuchet launcher to apex. I am also on f2fs.
I also would like to know the difference between NV and RUI/SIM, and which one should be preffered with simcard mod.
I can't speak to the RUI/SIM issue but I don't know how to switch themes off. As far as my SMS and cLocks idk it is possible that I disabled the wrong app I don't like to run more then the bare minimum. As for the theme I ended up downloading a dark theme from the app store which is wonderful looking!! It is called Nicholas' Dark Material. In case you're looking for dark like me.
Do you have issues with the gallery or camera? I think I saw somewhere on the xt897 forum a link to motorola's camera and gallery apps... are you able to change the save location for pictures or no?
I also had an issue where the navigation bar does not render right when I watch full screen video in landscape mode. May have to do with me forcing GPU render under developer options. I'd take it off but I can't remember how I got there lol
I cannot set the custom color for notifications in CM12... but there is a post that says the colors were retained on an upgrade from CM11. Well I wiped and did a clean install rather than an upgrade so is there an .xml file or a settings I can edit? I'm comfortable with file manager and editor and adb and shell...
CM 12 update
I have a simple question so if I am not asking it in the right place, I apologize.
If I do one of the CM12 updates (the nightlies) through the Update in the Settings Menu on my phone, does it wipe the phone? Or does it only update relevant system files and keep my apps and data??
If you only apply the update, it will not wipe the device. You would have to wipe it manually in recovery. It will apply a so-called "dirty flash" as you are not wiping any partitions.
CM12-->CM12, should be fine. Of course before you report any issues try a clean flash (or if it's a single app FC'ing, try clearing data on that single app).
I'm having tons of trouble using this with Sprint.
When I lock it to CDMA and/or EVDO mode, Logcat shows that it's trying to connect using a C Spire APN. If I lock it in LTE-only mode and select Sprint APN, it gets a good data connection. The APN menu is foolishly disabled for CDMA/EVDO so I cannot correct the issue. Why is it trying C Spire? How can I fix 3g and MMS settings to work?
CM11 worked great in all conditions, and MMS worked out of the box.
I'm trying to flash CM12 on a FreedomPop device and I'm getting the message "This package is for device: xt987,asanti_c; this device is asanti". I was able to flash CM11 from the nightlies page but no luck with CM12 nightlies nor with the CM12.1 that was posted here on XDA.
Any help to flash CM12 on this device? :good:
In the short term you can change the meta-inf file in the update.zip and change the assert line to allow asanti.
In the future, the CM maintainer probably needs to update the source to allow your device... odd that it worked in CM11 but not 12 tho.
Are you going from CM11 to CM12? Even if you clean flashed.
Thanks for the tip!
First I tried to flash CM12 directly but got the error. Then decided to try with CM11 and it worked so I hoped it would work to update to CM12 but got the same error again.
Just to double check I'm not doing it wrong, this is what I tried to flash:
CM12 (Failed): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/107228/cm-12-20150417-NIGHTLY-xt897.zip
CM11 (Success): http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/100850/cm-11-20150216-NIGHTLY-moto_msm8960_jbbl.zip
What I understood by reading around is that for CM12 I should use the xt897 file even though it's differently named than the CM11 one (moto_msm_8960_jbbl).
Can you please confirm that I'm using the correct CM12 one?
Thanks
Yes, that's the correct one.
The CM maintainer clearly states the reasoning in the CM12 thread:
Please check the xt897 device link for new Photon Q builds.
In the short term you can change the meta-inf file in the update.zip and change the assert line to allow asanti.
In the future, the CM maintainer probably needs to update the source to allow your device... odd that it worked in CM11 but not 12 tho.
Are you going from CM11 to CM12? Even if you clean flashed.
Adjusting the meta-inf to check for "asanti" instead of "asanti_c" worked perfectly. Thanks for your help!
Now I have to find out why after I flash gapps I start to get multiple crashes related to Google Services and Google Apps.
Edit: Well, just in case someone face the same problem in the future. I updated to the latest TWRP recovery directly from their webpage (initially I used Rashr app) and that solved all my problems, including the initial error when flashing CM12 nightly.
