For those that have been living under a rock for the past god knows how long, here is my infamous EFS Pro application which will completely automate Backup and Restore of your '/efs' partition.
It supports all Samsung Android devices except those based on a snapdragon processor.

(APP) Nandroid Browser

I found this app while cruising the forums. sounds cool you can browse your nandroid backup for apps that you forgot to backup without having to restore your backup!

I dunno if anyone knows or not but Titanium Backup Pro let's you go into a clockwork nand and restore apps as well......
*EDIT*
But I downloaded the app anyways and that's a great find, very UI friendly lol for someone like me and it got the job done! I guess I now have 2 ways to save myself after realizing I forgot to backup just an app

Confused!!?

Ok so im planning on rooting my gs3 as i do with all of my phones. However im am very confused on this imei thing. Now that the bootloader is unlockable does the imei need to be backed up? And if i dont back it up what happens? This is just very confusing as ive never had this issue with any other phones. Thank for the community help.

When flashing Roms (mostly AOSP) there is a small chance you will lose your IMEI. It's nice to back it up so you won't have to hassle later trying to get it back. Always back up things when you flash because even though you do everything right, things can go wrong.

Yeah back it up using QPST. I found it over at rootzwiki. The bootloader doesn't have to do with that. It's very sporadic it seems for people losing IMEI.
If you don't back it up and you lose it, you won't have data or basically a connection to Verizon. There is a way to restore it if you didn't back up but it leaves you in roaming. Backing up using QPST is very easy, do it!

SynergyROM has incorporated the flashable backup into their build. I can't confirm that it's working as my IMEI has remained intact, but the backup folder was created and populated during my last install.
I'll second synergy thread as well. Great info from eschalon and TrevE.
I also did qpst backup as well. Doesn't hurt to be cautious.

Released! EFS Professional 2.0 with Qualcomm Device Support!!!

Okay I have updated this first look thread. I know many of you are curious as to what I am working on and here I can reveal to you as promised:
EFS Professional 2.0.
At present there is no download available, this is just a sneak peek. I have been working hard to add many new features with the biggest being Qualcomm support.
It has totally been rewritten and now relies on the device's PIT to correctly backup and restore to and from the correct partitions each and every time.
Enough from me, just take a look at the screenshots and see for yourself!
EFS Professional 2.0 should be available for download beginning of next week after all testing is completed!
Great!! Waiting for more!
Great job! Waiting for..

Okay its finished. Its stable and working beautifully without issues and after alot of thought I have decided to implement this into a big v2 update of EFS Pro as it has more visibility and is more well established.
Look out for the EFS Pro v2 update landing in the forum very soon.

Just tried to back up my efs using this program and it fails too.
It says:

Operation failed!
This is an example, it does this for every partition....

Is there a problem with the sdcard in some way? EFS Pro writes its backups to:
/sdcard/EFSProBackup
If in mass storage mode then ull face problems.

Is it possible to restore a nandroid backup from another device if it's the same model.
Ie backup my nexus 5 in twrp copy it to my friends nexus 5 storage and restore it twrp?
Cheers
I've done it before with other devices. Worked fine

TWRP now gives the option to include the EFS partition in the nandroid backups....Make sure you do not restore an EFS partition from one device onto the other.

OK, great...I hope you don't think I was being patronizing... My intent was more of a friendly FYI and I hope that's how it was received by you
Now that I have a little more time I can say that if it were your own phone you were doing this on, I'd say go ahead and try it. There are many threads here in the various nexus forums where people have said they've done it without any problem with their own devices (after a RMA for example).
If it doesn't work and causes problems you can always restore the factory images if need be.
However, since it's a friend's phone you want to restore the nandroid on to it's a little different.
Are you trying to just get the same apps and app data installed on your friends phone as you have on yours? Or is it something more than that?

Lol sorry didn't mean to sound like that, I sometimes forget that things like tone/facial expression etc are lost when writing. Good advice, appreciate your help!
It's a bit complicated but basically I'm buying the phone off him, so it's for my personal use so I have no problem troubleshooting if anything goes wrong.
I'll give or a shot then, thanks for all the answers
