Desire S problems after ICS update..need help - HTC Desire S

Hi...I have officially updated my desire S with official ics update but after that I am facing a few problems
1. Whenever I click on any link sent on whatsapp or any app or sms , the app just crashes down and I have to force close
2.My fonts have become smaller and there's no option to increase them
3.When m listening to music it suddenly stops
4. My mails take a long time to be sent..
Someone pls help me find a solution to this atleast the first one...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app

Can you imagine that the solution has been already posted, and more than once?
Or you need "someone" to find you the solution, because you're too lazy to search yourself?
Here's a good general guideline for forums: whenever you want to post a question with a problem, think if there's a chance that anyone has already encountered that problem and asked the question before. Given that you're talking about one of the largest device-oriented forums, and ICS being out for at least a month already, I think the answer to this is pretty clear.

Instead of wasting time writing all this you could have simply written the solution but I guess you yourself dont know what d solution is...

If u know the solution then pls tell me cos I didn't find it anywhere..

He knows the solution, as do I and most of the guys/gals who have been on here for more than two months.
1) Don't pi$$ off the people who know what they are doing as you might need their help one day :banghead:
2) Use the search function as other questions have been asked many times before
If you are in someone's house and you ask them where the toilet is, imagine that they tell you to use your eyes. Would you call them an idiot and say they didn't know, or would you think that maybe it was right in front of you and easy to find?

Well Sir I would just show them d way instead of commenting they are lazy and all..and ya if one wants respect one should first learn to give respect...I don't regret what I said..

I'm not going to get into a slagging match with you - but Jack R1 has my respect as well as that of many people here. He is a very knowledgeable guy and helps when it is needed. However ... you don't need help. You don't need to be given the answers. You need to learn to SEARCH. If you come on here and just get spoon-fed the answers then you won't understand what/why/when - and if something then goes wrong you will have a brick instead of a phone
You have only just joined, but you need to go away and do two things;-
1) Watch the Welcome to XDA video
2) Read the XDA Rules - especially Rule 1
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

Maybe once you understand what XDA was created for (a website for Developers to get together) you will start to understand why being asked the same pointless questions over and over again starts to annoy people somewhat.

Oye u don't give me a lecture I didn't come to you to tell me rules and if that guy has respect to rakh na tere pass kyu paka raha hai...if u know to read carefully then read I said I could not find and ya as u said I just joined so may be I don't knw with what exact words to search all you could do is just help...and ya read it carefully I said help but I guess u don't understnd that...pls don't keep on giving lectures uncle I know you are more knowledgeable then so instead HELP by sharing your knowledge. And ya even m not interested in fighting , whole post is wasted in such arguments..If you don't wanna help don't help but pls request you stop giving lectures.I have nothing against anyone but I won't sit back if you'll comment unnecessarily.

Firstly - I am fairly sure that the Urdu (I think) phrase you used wasn't very polite.
Secondly - all I needed to do was type the word "WhatsApp" into the search box and the second hit is this one. I'm not going to tell you what to do with it - you will be slightly annoyed as you need root (like with most things you need to do to your phone).
If you had bothered to read before wildly upgrading to the new, shiny, unsupported ICS software then you would have been aware of these issues before upgrading - this is the exact reason why noobs keep on getting told to "Search, Read, Learn, Understand" before they do ANYTHING.

worst mistake to get captivate :( no help here

i ordered captivate knowing there will be nice people to support in this forum but there is none. i posted thread 2 times and both times its deleted without even informing me. i offer people free ps3 games and bluetooth headset still nobody wants to help here with lag fix and downloading rom? worst experience ever.
Sorry..... What?? No help = not asking the right question. You have over 400 posts and have gotten no help?!? weird......
Why would you offer free stuff for help? That just makes you seem like a spammer.
Quit being an idiot, and help yourself.
Captivate, XDA Premium, Cyanogenmod
Wow. This place is self service. Have you tried doing any searches or are you just waiting for someone to help you? Threads rarely get deleted. I'm guessing from your original post that you aren't very good at communicating.
im new here on captivate. do u guys really think i would understand all that rom stuff and kies and stuff i dont even know what they are. i dont even know how to root
If you need help with Captivate related stuff, I can help you out. Shoot me a PM.
At the others, if you don't have anything constructive to say, then better to keep quiet and report the thread.

Bit of advice there the_ahmadzais, get a clue and quit waiting for someone to ask you if you need help. Read, read, read, read, all the information you need is all here with the click of you mouse. :/

I'm closing it because of all this nonsense talk. I'll repeat what I said above, if you want to be stupid and ridicule the OP rather then lending a hand, then you're better off not posting.
@ the_ahmadzais, probably better off posting in the Q&A.

[Request] Use the search button first, please!

Hi everyone,
So I've seen this issue resurface many times in many different threads, most recently in the updating inspire thread. My requests are simple:
IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FORUM, PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BUTTON BEFORE ASKING A QUESTION. IF THEN, YOU STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND, FEEL FREE TO ASK (AND MAKE SURE YOU MENTION THAT YOU TRIED).
IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO FLAME SOMEONE THAT DIDN'T SEARCH, BE POLITE. If you want to answer their question too, go ahead.
If someone doesn't answer their question but asks them to search first, please don't flame them either. It's absolutely useless to redo the debate that's been had many many times before. Some people prefer not to answer questions in these cases while others don't. Let's all live happily ever after and not get on each others' backs because we're all experienced and veteran users trying to help others out. There is no need to get testy or question why someone does or doesn't answer a question. To each their own.
Now, back to my ORD (obsessive rom-flashing disorder for you newbies)...
Agreed.
I try to be as polite as possible without compromising the message. Sometimes it's difficult not to come across like a jerk when all you have to communicate with is text and smilies.
I often start feeling bad, thinking I was too harsh, and end-up going back and trying to make amends, anyway.

I never feel bad about it.
I've been living in forums for far too long to fret over this. I have a whole like 15 posts here but started back over a yr ago with my Rhodium. Now I'm getting into the more modded styles and am enjoying passing on what I've read here even gotten a few other friends to join. All cause this forum has a huge database of knowledge with an actual small amount of flaming.

I've noticed. Your one of my heroes, actually.
I try not to get to upset or flame to much. But sometimes I cant help it lol. I just had someone tell me not to be a douche when I gave them the answer and told him to search. He said theres 214 pages on this thread. I have to admit I lost it called him out and said my fair share of bad words lol. And told him exactly what i searched for and what page to find the answer on. There is no excuse for ignorance or stupidity in this age of google and forums. I have come to find more often then not its laziness and just wanting someone to give them the answer rather then find it out. I personally find that I learn more when I search and usually find even more useful info out. That's my 2 cents.

P.S. I did apologize to the op for the flame also.
There is now excuse to reading; almost any answer is already posted. when I first joined XDA I spent 2 days solid just reading. If one does half as much as I did, you end up with a good sense of how rooting, flashing, customizing the Inspire is done and also use the IRC chat rooms.
Guys don't let up! I never got hurt by anyone here, it only inspires to search, read, AND LEARN!!!
Holding someone's hand never encourages or lets them learn!
This thread already exists, use the search button next time.
Jk jk that would be ironic no?

Glad you posted this, cause I missed your response. But dude, once in a while, someone could read over something easily. I shouldn't post this here, since this thread goes against flaming, but you were out of line. And by the way **** face,I unchecked the tell HTC box,it didn't work. But not being the newby you treated me like,I figured it out on my own. Your vision on someone not searching or being lazy,is outta this world ****ed up bro. You are the type of user who completely does not care about anything but trying to prove there intelligence. Here is what a user should do when having a problem:
1: read,read......read!
2: read over all you read, again
3: do a couple searches
4: retry what you did that caused the problem
5: after all that fails, ask the question you need an answer too
I DID ALL OF THAT YOU ASS.
I read all 200 and something pages of the thread before i ever asked my question, and as hard as it is for you to beleive,I read over what I was looking for.
And before any of you write this up as flaming, his whole post here was flaming me. Have a nice day captain douchebag

LOL! I think you posted that video in that thread too.
The reason search isn't as effective it could be is because there is so much duplicate content from noobs asking the same quetsions over and over.
In a way XDA site has become a end user support site more so than a tech/dev site.

Its not about whether or not people should search, im sure alot do and alot dont. Problem is some the the questions they are asking might be answered to someone who already knows the answer. To the one asking the question it was only partially answered in the post they searched for, then u get these forum nazi's jumping all over them saying search search search, usually the one saying that says it for post count or just to have something to say period, because they dont have any answers.
If i know the answer, I will answer it if it wasnt already answered. There are plenty nice peeps on here that answer, and not half assed. What is clear to peeps that have a good understanding of what there doing to begin with, is not always clear to someone with little to no knowledge of modding there phones.
Thanks to everyone here that does have the patience to help all the noobs out. If everyone was a smartass about everything what good would the forums be.

That's what all of this is about... Community moderation.. reminding people of the rules when mods aren't around to do it, which is a lot of the time.
But, as I'm finding out, it's not a very popular thing with a lot of people. I got accused of "acting like god of this forum," because I reminded someone, after that person had their question answered by another poster, to search a little better next time. It was one of the most commonly questions here.

Your rite. See knewbs can be aggrivating, but we were once all one our selves. And yes, knewbs should search and read first, and if they have a problem, then ask a question. But someone shouldn't jump down there throat off the bat, assuming they didn't search first. I mean, sometimes I have a hard time finding something by googlin it and my gf will find it with one search LOL. So its not just the knewbs clustering the place, its also people who Jump down there throat and cause an argument that lasts 2 pages worth of thread. Here's an example of how I think it should be done
Knewb: " i tried to install android evelution and keep getting reboots"
Member: " did you search?"
Knewb: "yes and I can't find anything on it"
Member: "ok try full wiping, then reflashing. If that doesent work, post back here and im sure we can help you out"
See,like give them an easy answer ya know? And if they cone back saying it didn't work, then its time to be the members of a great forum, and help the guy, atleast tell him what to read through to resolve the problem. On the other hand,if a knewb comes off like there not even willing to try and help there selves, then don't even respond. In the long run it will save a lot of space on the forum. Instead of being jerks,we can guide the knewbs to being a intelligent user, that way they will be the ones answering questions down the road. Of we did that, then it would save time for the more experienced users to make great stuff for us here at xda. I'm not taking up for knewbs here,I'm just saying that there not the only ones clustering the place. And I'm not talking about the guys who come off as a jerk because there responding to something over the internet,I mean the ones who snap on a knewb, without leaving nothing but an half ass answer, and a rude comment that leads to a huge argument.
My 2cents,I have plenty more

Rite. See the users that have knowledge, need to guide the knewbs so there will be more experienced users to do so. Sometimes I come off as taking up for the knewbs, but its just that the people that's been here a while or have intelligence about all this, can make this place better, and control situations if we just do like you said, and say hey "try searching a little bit next time bud" instead of "omg you rlidiot,go search before you post" ya know?

Please Do Not Read

Ok I'm gonna go ahead and make this thread because I know that I'm not the only on that this is pissing off.
1. If you are new to the sgs4g forum then read the rules ( because this obviously isn't happening)
2. "I'm a newbie" or "sorry I'm a noob" is not an excuse
3. Use search, we here at the sgs4g are not cha cha. We are not here to search for you. If you legitimately search and can't find anything, then ask
4. If you post a question or topic in one thread don't post it in another just because you aren't getting the responses you think that you should.
5. Do not pester our devs about an up and coming ROM they are working on, they are doing there best and will release it when done. some of us have personal lives and families, please respect that.
6. Do not post question inquiring about anything illegal or asking someone how do do something illegal, we will not help you.
7. Haven't seen it in a while but, DO NOT ask anyone for their EFS folder. This folder holds very sensitive information to the phone and the phone owner. If someone was to give you this folder and you have their imei then the person helping you get it from runs the risk of being black listed by their service provider, they also run the risk of "earning" a class c felony (if im not mistaken, i do know it is a felony though) if the person asking stole the phone and is wanting to change imei.
Please enjoy yourself here and enjoy the great roms and mods our devs provide.
Sorry if someone doesn't like the fact that I posted this but obviously nobody reads the rule thread, and some members are becoming a problem because of that .

good luck on that one bud - u do realize you're asking assistance in tampering with what sounds like, evidence.
*find his way out*
really??
not tampering. need to get them from my phone to print out so I can take it to the judge.
Legal side apart, I don't think you can. I'm not sure of anything that dumps them. Try googling for "android text dump", or looking around the forums.

First link:
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f4/data-file-storage-location-for-sms-messages-23299/
http://www.google.com/search?q=android+sms+location
EDIT
Did a dump of the file and found out that it's in sqlite format. Find an sqlite database viewer and you'll be able to see it.
EDIT2
Open the .db file with
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sql...0 beta1/sqlitebrowser_200_b1_win.zip/download
Click on the browse data tab
Under the Table dropdown, pick SMS
File > Export > Table as CSV file
Open the file in Excel, now you can print
I recommend you delete the columns that aren't necessary.
well then lenny you dont read either because one it is in general section

I did read. It was originally posted in general section but that was the wrong section so he posted it here. We have people to watch the forums to make sure stuff gets posted in the right section and who make up the rules they are called moderators. And if he wanted to tamper with evidence I'm sure all he would have to do is install a different rom.

My point is your nobody on this forum to be posting rules. It would be crazy if everyone acted like you and took it upon themselves to post rules. And how am I ignorant?

Damn I got excited when I read this is my last post. I was hoping you were leaving this forum. And is name calling really necessary. Do you honestly think it would be ok for all the other members to start posting rules they think we should follow. How would this forum be then?

Just use a screen capture app to screen cap the sms thread and email it to yourself and then print out. It will have the sms and the time stamp

i agree that people dont read. search. listen. and when they dont get the answer they are looking for, they get upset, but lets just let this one go for now.
No need to curse now dude. It's a cell phone forum, calm down. If you're angry because he didn't read the rules then just simply don't respond. If someone has an answer to his question then they'll respond.
If you truly have a problem with it, PM a mod, let them deal with it. Doesn't help when you cause an argument.
HTC Glacier running MIUI
Are you guys bumping the thread again with arguments? Just drop it, we haven't even heard back from the guy yet.

What s with this f*cking post?
Mods!!! Where are you?

@up
First of all, Your post is even more useless than eyahl's. To be honest, most of things You publish in here is without any value.
Please, stop this mod wannabe attitude, or You will only make enemies in here.
I personally also think, that op haven't give us enough information to get help. What more, I'll bet he haven't done enough searching because bootloader problems seem to be well covered in here.
Anyway.... +1 on having more info from op.
Peace.
I don t want to be a mod. I don t have the time, energy and experience to do this.
I am sick and tired to read topics that are full of crap
I agree that my post s are offtopic and useless
BUT from my point of view the +1 post is just a method to raise the post count, and they certainly don t add valor to the forum

Observing eyahl's posts I can hardly imagine that he is trying to raise his post count in such a way.
Apologies to OP for offtop and from my side it is an end of this pointless discussion.
Ok, than please explain me the reason for his post
And what more can you tell me Nostradamus?
You are right this conversation is useless and please don t make me explaine it to you why.

I'm sorry for butting in here, but lets calm down... @draghiciandrei : Nobody invited you to this post... if you don't like it, just don't read it again... posting on it will only make it rise higher on the forum...irritating you even more!
I understand that sometimes you or I or anyone may get ticked off at some thread, post or comment... but do you think screaming "Where are the Mods?!!" is going to get you some moderation? If you find something offensive here, click on the Report thread/post button and submit your grievance to the moderators. If they are as infuriated as you are, they will take appropriate action.
I'm not flaming you brother, i'm just saying that going through your posts, there's very little useful that has come out from you. Please focus on helping people here rather than scaring them away... it's an open forum, it does not belong to you or me or anybody else here.
As for eyahl's post, I think his post was short and precise, and all he has done is express agreement with the previous user's post regarding importance of furnishing more details about the OP's status. Hardly something to have you frothing at the mouth. You may be having a bad day, but please take it out on people you actually know, rather than out here on xda... Plus, history matters... I've been following his posts too, and he's a much more active an productive contributor around here that you know who...
@bronx :+1 from me too, regarding more details from the OP
Yeh, you are all right and i am the silly one
