[Q] Is MIUI an Iphone inspired rom? - General Questions and Answers

I'm just curious as to why MIUI for Android phones is so similar to Iphone. Did they get the ideas and user interface from that? Not tripping but just wondering as to why that would be the case and why an avid Android user would want to get on that bandwagon. It's a great experience and many Android insides and besides. I have used it in the time I have come to flash roms, try them and even use them as daily drivers(be they worthy and more completed). Any speculation or knowledge of the reasoning?

Yes, in my opinion, the MIUI is definitely inspired by iOS's layout.
You don't have the app drawer as in AOSP, but what you get is similar to iOS.
You should feel free to try out all ROM's such as CM10, AOKP, MIUI before deciding which one fits you the best..

Yes MIUI is an IOS knock off. As to why. Your guess is as good as mine.

It is iOS inspired.
As to "why people would want to jump on that bandwagon," I actually think its very nice looking.
But otherwise, its a thumbs down for me. I prefer Cyanogenmod

Totally agree with you on the Cyanogenmod preference. Miui in my opinion is nice looking but too much like the enemy lol. Considering my first was a OG Droid and CM was there to sweep me off my feet lol. It was love at first sight!:highfive:

MIUI?

I'm no dev but how possible is a port for the S?
Youd probably have to ask the porters of the english version if they have this phone and plan on pushing it to it.

not trying to hate on MIUI but why buy a nice phone with stock gingerbread if you are going to completely destroy the major reason anyone would get the phone.?
There is a difference between flashing CM7 and MIUI iono just doesnt make sense to me
haha^ your completely right bro
I wasn't going to say anything, but please explain how the MIUI rom "poops" all over the Nexus S? Why do you have a Nexus S?
As an ex MIUI user on the N1 (Launcher pro though - ewwww iPhone UI ) - I'd love to see it on the NS. I'd still buy another NS without a second thought though - amazing phone.
Sorry... I guess I dint word it right. I meant it is amazing as far as the customizations go A lot of cool features on it I would like to see my NS!
As Far as "pooping" all over the Nexus I am only stating this as her Snapdragon is clocked @ 1.8!
Which we will see soon!

The MIUI 12.24 is on my NS now.
Been using MIUI (on my N1 for 2 months).
Have you tried junkdrugglers MIUI theme for ADW launcher on the market? It seems to do decent justice.

Yes MIUI is definitely going to support NS as it is the official Google phone like N1. It's just a matter of time.
Was there REALLY a need or use for this thread? I mean, seriously!? It doesn't contribute anything...at all. I hate to be a **** but it surely twists my balls when I see a thread like this. Just wait and see, I'm sure an MIUI ROM will come sooner or later. It's just a matter of time. Have a nice evening .

I'm all for people voicing their opinions. However, this thread does not involve voicing any opinion. It is, more or less, an attempt to get someone to port MIUI to the Nexus S. I don't think it, in any way, involves "Themes" or "Apps." Just sayin'! I hope someone does port it just so threads like this cease to exist . That's all from me.

Well I love HTC Design and build quality since the HTC Touch Diamond back in 2007/8.
Also February of this year when I got the Inspire there weren't many android options on AT&T. I wasn't getting the outdated Aria or Captivate, I hated the current iteration of Motoblur on the Atrix, and I didn't like Touchwiz 3 on the Infuse that had yet to come out. Best option for me at the time was the Inspire because I couldn't take the iPhone anymore.
I just happen to not be a big fan of U/I skins in general - aside from the new Touchwiz 4.

Well like stated before, if you don't like sense getting an HTC phone was not your best choice however since you made the choice and lucky for you the Inspire has a lot of development, you're not totally boned since you don't like the stock sense feel. Again, I recommend and stand by any of the Collective team's work (Absolution and BBmod). MIUI is nice too but reminds me of an iPhone too much so if I really wanted that type of look, I would have gotten an iPhone (not trying to insult anyone, just my opinion so any of the MIUI fans take exception to that, sorrrrry!!) Best bet try all of the AOSP ROMs and decide for yourself which one you like the most!
Isn't the point of android being able to create your own environment that suits you? Isn't that why we have such a bevvy of ROMs to choose from? I'm on the same boat with the OP, loving HTC's build quality but sense doesn't suit me 100%. I've just recently re-installed LauncherPro and I'm enjoying the environment much better.

Yet you recommend ROMs that strip sense from the phone. Why didn't you just get a Nexus phone?
I'd say that Touchwiz has more in common with the look/feel of an iPhone than MIUI has by far. MIUI has a very nice, clean feel to it and adds a lot of elements of customization to the table. I really enjoyed using it while I had my old Captivate, more so than CM7. Right now I'm enjoying Android Revolution + LauncherPro since this offers the most flexibility for my use. I'd say try out MIUI and see if you like it.

My good friend, I think you've misread or misunderstood what I was going at. The OP states he doesn't like sense. My obvious step in logical thinking is, "why get a sense based phone then?" I mean follow your own advice and tell the OP to get a nexus prime since he has explicitly stated he doesn't much like sense.
You're right I do recommend to him CM7 based ROMs because he has stated he doesn't like sense. Why would I advocate or recommend sense based ROMs to a user who has stated he doesn't like sense. I don't mind sense, I actually enjoy the U.I. I don't like that its a resource hog though. So I use CM7 based ROMs, not out of distaste for sense ROMs, just out of lack of customization in most of the sense based ROMs. From time to time I do use sense based ROMs ( BD or ARHD). I've just gotten to know the devs and users of the collective and have a hard time leaving them. Great guys/girls and some of the friendliest people you're gonna meet on XDA.
Like I said, my opinion on MIUI, if you took exception..nothing I can do there friend. That's an inner struggle you'll have to square away. MIUI is a great ROM, never said it wasn't, just reminds me of an iPhone. Plan and simple. My opinion. You're entitled to yours.

No this is a project built from Apple's darwin os and runs on top of a Linux kernel. Miui is just a modified Android ROM. This has nothing to do with Android, apart from the fact that there's a chance that roms will be available based upon this.
I think it would be amazing to see this running. I doubt most people would use it everyday. I mean, we buy Android phones for a reason right? But it would be fun to test.
This will probably not be much like iOS in terms of UI design.
Sure it'll be the same when it comes to the kernel and other low-level stuff, but they probably won't venture into the suefield and go full on UI clone
.

True about the suefield, but it normally doesn't stop people.
What does this actually have to do with Android? There's no mention of being Android-based. This belongs more on iPhone-developers.
People with iPhones already have the iOS experience. They wouldnt need a clone. But some of us Android users might be interested to know that a port may be coming out on other hardware.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Sounds like it would be an enormous undertaking without much benefit.
We already have an open-source mobile OS, and it has the flexibility to be modified to imitate other OS's - the WP7 theme/interface for Android looks pretty good.
If people really want something like iOS on non-Apple phones then it is probably best to follow a similar approach: modify Android rather then build a whole new mobile OS.

one thing I really dont understand is the reason manufacturers put their own ui on top of android phones. Its not like they are gonna get any extra money from it. It seems like they are just too ignorant to realize that paying software engineers to create Sense UI and making their customers butthurt while using it is a complete waste when all we want is an unobtrusive android experience. I would gladly take a delayed kernel source if that meant that phones shipped with vanilla android.

They do this to help differentiate a saturated market. And believe it or not, I know quite a few people who dig sense, or tw. I myself prefer vanilla. But you have to remember there is a lot of little handy things sense does, like fb integration, that stock vanilla android does not do, and most users couldn't be bothered to play with it and mod it to work. I am just against manufacturer overlays as the next Xda user(the minority), but I'm just trying to enlighten you as to why these overlays exist, mainly to stand out from one another.

Not true at all. It's the opposite. They like adding their own stuff because they think that's what sells. Go look at any "cheap" Android phone. They're actually lucky enough to get stock Android.
I've been wishing they could just make it the customers choice. It can't be hard to make a vanilla rom on top of their Sense or TW. At initial setup let us choose whether or not it installs Sense or whatever.

rquinn I have to believe Google wants the same thing.
Google puts a lot of work into the Stock Android experience. ICS is by a huge margin better from a UI standpoint than any version that has come before it.
Trouble is, unless you're a phone geek, you won't see it.
I can only think of one or two devices besides the Nexus that DON'T skin Android.
I want to try a Huwai device for this reason. I've decided that after I'm done with this device, I'm buying a Pure Google one. If the release of the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus to the play store is any indication, Google is going into the hardware business full time, and I can't wait to see what they do.
Skins can be great, but they should be an option that you can enable or disable with a button click.
I personally love Sense, but it's what works for you, obviously. HTC's Mail app has the best Exchange support I've ever seen in Android. Granted I've never used Samsung's mail client, so maybe it's comparable, but everything else is either really flaky, incomplete, or ugly. I actually wish they would bring back the My Shelf application that was on a few phones (like the DHD.) Of all the eReaders I've tried, it's been my favourite. I also haven't seen any calendar app/widget combination that has, IMO, come close to the HTC one in terms of fluidity and completeness.
But, on the topic of Jellybean: As someone else mentioned, I'm in no rush. This phone's damn near perfect. It's almost always buttery smooth, so I don't think Project Butter will improve it a whole lot. Google Now and the improved notifications would be nice though, I guess.

[DISCUSSION] iOS 7

Being the centerpiece of the Android community, I would like to see what my fellow Nexus owners think of iOS 7. I did not create this thread for "flame wars" or any thing like that but rather a place where we can all maturely discuss our thoughts on Apple's new mobile operating system.
Personally I think it looks very interesting! Certainly a change of pace from where they have been going since the beginning of iOS and that's a good thing. I do believe they took a lot of cues from Android though including the look and feel, notification drawer, and the control center. The thing I'm most excited over though is what Google has in store for us to top it (and you know they will).
That's why I love technology, competition creates awesome new things for us consumers. What are your thoughts?
Here's a YouTube video of it just in case you didn't see it yet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKibbvhajOA
Looks very Android-esque, esp. the messaging app and the new "style" looks very much like MIUI, however I think there's already a thread open regarding this
Last iOS7 thread was closed, let's see how this one fairs.
On topic:
My thoughts are that I don't care how they make the OS look, or even function. Until they open up their OS and make it more flexible, I will never buy a device that runs it. I don't need them to tell me what I can and can't do with the phone I've already purchased. Then again, most Android phones have bloatware put in by OEMs and are just as restrictive. Guess that's why I bought a Nexus 4, browse the Nexus 4 forums, and genuinely enjoy AOSP. I don't exclusively run AOSP, but the fact that I can, and do, switch between ROMs is why I won't be using iOS7.
It looks like MIUI....

No? It's still for girls then.
I don't see why these threads keep getting closed just like the 4.3. Its related so ....anyways. I do applaud them for trying. But in the end their os is still closed. You get what you get and you can't change anything about it. When you buy and android phone you get more . you can make it yours . as for innovation, under all the new icons, new colors, new notification center, etc, the os is technically unchanged. But you know what, people will buy it. Some people like being told what's cool and what to buy . some don't like modifying and just want something that gets up and goes. While that may be good for some it may not be good for others.

It looks pretty nice actually..
At least it has widgets now.

Last ios vs Android argument I had was back at the iPhone 4 times. It has since become boring to bash them. Who cares..

That's not the purpose of this thread?
It is to discuss it and possibly compare it. Not bash it.
I think it looks good. Refreshing for iphone users to have a new look!

I'd say it's starting to look more like Android, and the iPhone users who preferred the "iPhone look" (Like the missis) agreed that she won't upgrade as it's begun to stray, and then she'd rather just buy and Android phone and let me set it up for her - if those are the kinda looks she's looking for.

Good to see it from a users viewpoint. I guess they have grown into that look
It's good that they changed the UI and it does look somewhat nice, but I couldn't help feeling I was watching i/o again.

My girlfriend and I watched the whole conference, she has an iPhone 5, and I have to admit I was impressed with the overhaul. The semi-transparency and the white mixed with vivid colors will look great on her phone and iPad. The iPad is where I'm really looking forward to seeing it. It's about time Apple stepped up and really pressure Google to make Key Lime Pie the best OS it can be.
That being said. Not to start a debate... I personally wouldn't leave Android for iOS 7. I like my Nexus 4 too much... At least until the Nexus 5 comes out.

Although I applaud Apple for overhauling the look of their iOS (it looks better than iOS 6 for sure) it looks like they taken features from android/blackberry/win8 and just complied it into one. Does it impress me? No it doesn't, Android is still by far more advanced than iOS will ever be and this is coming from someone who had the iPhone 4. I got tired of not being able to customize anything and have to use the phone just like Apple wants people to. Does it impress those people who use apple iPhone and apple products only? Yes it does it probably does.. I was disappointed, I was expecting Apple to come up with something new I guess but of course they didn't. "Innovative"..
I'm not one to bash Apple but....
It's like android, blackberry and win8 had a 3 way marriage and it created iOS7.
Although, their Mac Pro looked interesting.

I think the new OS screamed "Android!!!!!!" and the new Safari reminds a bit Google Chrome for Android, specially the card-tabs (which looks identical to me).
But I also don't care if they are being inspired by Android, after all, that's a good thing, right? Back in the days people would say Android used to copy Apple, now it's going the other way!!! AND it was about time Apple did some major changes to iOS so I'm happy for'em
