[Q] Using Phone Overseas - HTC Desire S

I have a desire S un-rooted phone but not locked to any supplier. I bought it to use in Australia but I think it came from Hong Kong. I wanted to use it in the UK and Croaia. It is likely that I will use a local sim card in the UK. I am with Exetel (Optus) in Australia.
Will my handset work in the UK and or Croatia?
Can I choose whether I use my existig sim or a local sim?
If it won't work, can it still be used without a sim for wifi etc?
Thanks for any help ...

[Q] Verizon M8 for Europe Backpacking Trip/European SIMs

About to be backpacking and traveling around Europe.
Option 1: I have a rooted Verizon HTC One M8. Thinking of doing a Three - UK Simcard over there as it's very cost effective and they even have an unlimited data plan add on pack for 15 euros. I know that most recent Verizon smartphones are sim unlocked. Would my 4G work with most prepaid SIM cards including Three's sim card? I'm a little confused as to how it works and I'm worried that, yes my Verizon HTC one would work, but would I get 4G signal or is it mostly 3G signal? I'm assuming I keep my Verizon plan but just suspend my Verizon account while I'm abroad?
Option 2: Buy an Unlocked Used Galaxy S5 for a couple hundred bucks and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Option 3: Buy a OnePlus tomorrow for around the same as a GS5 and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Option 4: Buy a BLU Vivo Air Smartphone on Amazon and include whatever SIM I choose in Europe, suspend Verizon and Keep HTC in the states, reactivate when back.
Thoughts or advice from anyone who's been to Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy) with a Verizon HTC One?
Thanks!
I honestly don't know a 100% answer as I've never done that, but since your HTC is unlocked, and removable SIM, couldn't you just suspend Verizon, get a 4g SIM when you're over there, pop it in your M8, and go about your trip then just reactivate VZW when back?
Sounds like that's what you'd be doing anyways if you were to buy an extra phone to do that exact same thing anyways.
Or are you worried about losing/ breaking it over there then having nothing? If that's the case, I would get a cheap used one from somewhere, use that over there and then just leave the M8 there. Just my $.02.
Recently just asked this, Im going to get a cheap sim when I am over there and hope it works.

I'm going to start in Germany (berlin) and hoping to travel around Switzerland, Austria, and Italy...Thinking I'd go with Three's service from the UK for the unlimited data (which doesnt work in Germany, but almost everywhere else) and I'd get a sim for my time in germany or just use wifi.
Also, do I need to do anything special with Verizon for unlocking (other than suspend my line for the time I'm abroad)? I mean do I need to pay them to unlock the sim or anything? I've read that most recent verizon phones are sim unlocked and global ready... Just wondering if i'm missing something...
Curious to hear what you decide on or if you have any other thoughts.

You don't need to do anything with Verizon. The phone is SIM unlocked out of the box. You'd just need to add the correct APN settings.

cant connect to mobile network in japan

Hey guys this might be a weird one or very easy.
I bought my huawei ascend mate 7 in china in december 2014, has been working all good so far but while im in japan on holiday I havent been able to connect to the mobile network here at all.
I bought an "international sim" which is a sim service working through ecuador for some reason (dont ask lol)
and bought a data sim here in japan, both nano sims which ive entered the APN information for to no avail
My amaysim sim card from australia isnt working in the main sim slot either (although i didnt intend to use it so I havent activated roaming which is $8k per gb rofl)
When I go to the carrier list to try to choose a carrier the only ones that come up are chinese carriers like china mobile etc, im not sure if this has something to do with it since my phone has been working in australia using the auto select setting.
Any help would be much appreciated since ive lost my visa card and all sorts of horrid **** so im really pretty stuck at the moment.

Does this phone supports Nextel?

I'm in Mexico and I'm using Nextel but I'm not sure if it works with my company I tried using the Sim Card with no success...
You need to make sure that you device is unlocked for international use if you purchased it from Sprint.
As for Nextel, I wouldn't be able to tell you, as here in the US Nextel has been decommissioned.

SM-G955F not seeing my sim card.

Hi,
I have bought the device in France while i was on a trip there.
I have returned back home (New Zealand) and my European sim cards connect to the network no problem (I have one french and one Israeli) both working.
however, when i insert my Spark sim, its not recognized at all i got a new sim card (nano-sim) as my old one was micro sim.
Any thoughts?
Cheers.

I think, this has to-do with the "Region Lock"; you bought an European S8+, and before you can use SIM-cards from other (read NOT European) regions, you must have called at least 5 minutes with a European SIM-card...
yeah i have purchased the device in France and used it heavily during that time including calls.
can something be done about this?

Network partially unlocked

Hello,
maybe somebody can enlighten me or help me.
I have SM-G930S which my girlfriend made the account for me here in korea. When I brought my phone to my home country (manila), I used local sim and it recognized and I even used it in philippines.
However, now she wanted to use with her local sim (KT Telecom), it is not recognizing or not acquiring any signal at all from KT. I know that her sim card is not locked to current device because I try to use her sim to my old S3 and it does acquire signal from KT.
Now my question is, is there a way to unlock my phone so that she can use it for her own telecom? Right now, my phone is registered to SK telecom.
Thanks
