[Q] Sensation XE Dark Screen - HTC Sensation

I need help with this. Yesterday, the screen of my HTC Sensation Xe began to fade, not due brightness settings but out of itself. I immediately thought a reboot would fix my issue so I went and rebooted my phone. Turning it back on resulted in the screen being nearly all blacked out.
When holding the phone under a bright lamp I can see a little bit of the screen so I have verified it is still working but the screen stays dark. I have tried nearly anything, boot screen (not visible enough), keeping the battery out a while, keep the phone turned off a while, nothing seems to work.
I have had this phone for around 10 months now, I recently flashed the latest paranoidandroid rom. My phone is S-OFF as well.
I have searched every forum for a solution but I can't find any clear info.
I hope it is the battery causing this issue so I don't have to send my phone back to HTC.
If you have any ideas or solutions, please share them with me.
Thanks in advance.

Bump, I really need help with this.

Unfortunately it looks like a fault with the screen, it didn't sound software related at all. Hopefully I'm wrong but I have had similar problems with dark screens in the past and it always meant screen replacement. Good luck hope you get it sorted

Yes it sounds like the screen It's self unfortunately.you can try replacing yourself if you don't want to send it in. They have some how to videos on you tube that seem pretty good. But either way it sounds like it will need repair . I wish you the best! Good luck
sent from HTC sensation, soff, 3.33 firmware, viper Rom, sense 4.1, kernel version PYD-X stable 3.1, mugen battery 3800mah. Please press thanks if I helped in anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I have given up searching for a solution for this and the only thing left is getting it repaired. I have a big problem though. My phone still boots the paranoidandroid rom which you can see if you keep the phone under a lamp or something, this will most likely remove my warranty if they see I am using a custom rom right? I am out of ideas right now..

How would I if I can not see anything on the sreen? CWM background is so dark. And besides that I haven't been able to find my stock RUU yet.

Change your CID to HTC__001, then flash a WWE RUU. Then S-ON by doing fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 in the bootloader.

Thanks for taking the time to help me. Could you explain it a little better or is there a guide for this? Sorry for bothering you with my questions.

It should be a superCID thread in development, except instead of changing to 11111111, change it to HTC__001.

Hm, I just read that in order to use superCID I have to use ADB, my phone isn't set to usb debugging so it's pretty much impossible I guess..

No more ideas?

No, if you do it in the bootloader, if it says FASTBOOT you can still do it.

S-off (via AlphaRevX) restored stock and still s-off

Hi All,
This is my first ever post but im an avid user of XDA - Please forgive me if someone else has said this,
I installed AlphaRevX's s-off patch - Brilliant!!! Excellent! Until I read about the charging issue when the battery is flat, so flashed a custom rom to have a look see and quickly went back to stock ROM (RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.35.401.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_198179_signed)
I just looked at the bootloader and I still have s-off without the Revolution text at the top!!! is this luck?!...
If not, looks like something worth investigating
Mart
Sure you was not s-off before?
If you are sure have a look if it is ship or radio soff or hboto soff
Can you send me some links regaridng to the error ? Get my sensation in a few days back and so i dont read all carefully ;-)
I'm pretty sure flashing the stock rom wouldn't mess with the bootloader at all and make it back to S-ON. Then again I could be wrong.

What is the battery charging issue when battery is "flat"?
And what does a battery-"flat" mean?

But do you have CWM installed? I think CWM is the reason, not Revolutionary S-OFF.
I also think its the clockwork not the bootloader.

I am having issues now with charging a completely dead battery. It doesn't recognize it, the orange charge light comes on for two seconds and then starts flashing orange or turns off completely. Multiple tries to charge doesn't make a difference. My battery is at 3.1v right now, so I am going to try charging it with a different phone and getting the voltage up. What ever you do, don't run your battery completely dead. Worked fine until this.
This is related to the recovery, so becareful what you flash. attached is a ZIPPED version of the orig recovery.

If you would all please read the threads.
This is a known issue.
Clockwork Recovery released by Revolutionary currently does not support charging. So if you turn off your phone with fastboot disabled, you will not b able to charge.
Team Revolutionary are working to fix it, as soon as it is fixed, it will be updated in the S off sticky guide!
Flashing a Stock RUU will wipe everything including clockwork recovery with a stock recovery.
BUT IT WILL NOT REMOVE S-OFF.
so once you s-off and flash back to stock you stay s-off
I can confirm that flashing that stock RUU does remove the "Revolutionary" text at the top, almost as if we have a stock S-OFF device.
Where does one find the ruu ROM?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Now try to go to your recovery after you revert back to shipped ruu and see if it works... mine does not.. it goes to a screen with a phone and a red triangle with an exclamation point when I try to load recovery.
After I flashed the official RUU, I simply placed the recovery zip back on my sd card and updated it the same as before
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
I read in another thread that if you flash the eng hboot and then the offical RUU for your carrier that it should return you to stock with s-on.

Ok, im very much a noob when it comes to the sensation, I had a Hero before this and i loved that phone!...
Ok this is what I can see, I can boot into recovery and I get a few limited options (wipe, flash update from zip etc) and I dont have the charging issue...
I can access recovery, i have s-off, i dont have charging issue...
Brilliant!
Just flashing the eng s-off removes it too.

Help to get S-on and stock rom

Hi guys .. I need some help getting S-on back then flash a stock Rom to return the device to tmo. I currently have s-off and running ARHD 6.4 but I need to return it for an exchange. From what Ive read you need superCID and pick a stock Rom to flash over it. Though, I never change my CID do I still need to change that for a stock Rom? Also there are 3 diff RUU on the list for tmous anyone knows which on is the correct version?
I jz s-off and installed arhd for less then a week but I accidentally dropped the phone from the second floor and it hit the hardwood floor. Surprisingly with the seidio case its survived without a scratch or dent (it hit at the bottom right corner). Case and battery cover came loose a bit but it just needed a push and it snapped back on (tapatalk app was still running ;-) .. though later on I found out that wifi doesn't turn on anymore. It keeps staying at "turning on wifi" but it doesn't come on. Every minute or so it flashes to on and quickly turns off and the phone keeps getting hotter and hotter. I wiped and reinstalled but it doesn't help. Then I swapped the cover from my wife's sensation but same story. I was wondering if something like this happened to anyone else and if you know a way to fix that (something from the battery cover?? Or back of phone that could cause the problem). I appreciate all help and suggestions guys!!!!

Somewhere buried is the cid thread. Use the search to find it and see what's the cid of tmob. Change it to that. Then go to the ruu thread and flash the latest tmob ruu. S on. Voila! You are ready

S-OFF hboot 1.29.0000

So I sent my Sensation back to HTC to repair after i managed to ruin it replacing the screen myself. They did it under warranty which is ace, but not my new problem...
Basically I want to go full root and custom rom, but the device has come back bright and shiny with HBOOT 1.29.0000 (mar 2 2012) and none of my usual methods are able to unlock that.
I've spotted I've spotted the juopunutbear method, but no way am I connecting wires to hot points on my device, I'd rather be stuck with S-ON and wait for my next device.
Are there any other solutions / is revolutionary still under development?
1.29 hmmm that's new we are on 1.27 you'll be waiting for a bit if new scoff don't work

JPBear is your only option at the moment, assuming it works on 1.29 of course.
It's pretty safe though, what the shorting does is activate some sort of download mode, it's also used for the unbricking project.

Unlocking with HTCDEV failed for me as well, maybe the 1.29 HBOOT is too new and isn't part of the bootloader unlocker yet? Either way I''d bet it's down to that, will get involved on your thread.

If it makes you feel any better about it, HTC does it every time they need to enter download mode to completely flash a new everything. It's not actually shorting anything, it's just connecting some pins together, and as the phone boots up, it's probably asking "Are these pins connected?" and if they are it enters download mode.

Back from repair now not sure how to root

Hi all, got my phone back from repair, with the latest orange crap and newest hboot. Ive read that I need to use Juopunutbear, to the s-off, root etc, but I dont like the look of Juopunutbear, (using wire? no chance_. I found the old revolution way much safer and easy to do. How can i still do it like that? Would i need to flash the old orange ruu on the sdcard?

You can't run older ruu when SON
To have custom rom's you need to do SOFF via Juopunutbear way or htc dev unlock
The later might not work for you.. As you might got motherboard replaced..
So only solution is JB via temproot

My repair was only for dust under the screen. so i have the choice of voiding warranty via a piece of wire (visual void), or I virtually tell htc im voiding it? There must be a sneakier way?

I see what you mean about not being able to go backwards. Im stuck now as the dev unlock is no use and I do not have the steady hand to do the wire trick

I highly doubt it. If you're uncomfortable, you should stick with stock. It's always wise to not do it if you aren't sure of it..
If I had steady hands it wouldnt be a problem, Im a flashaholic, hate stock lol x
Maybe if you read over it a few times you might get a bit more comfortable with it? What I do is even print out the guide so I don't miss a step.this has really helped me in the past when doing new things, I know it may sound silly but its nice to have a printed guide infront of you incase you get in a pinch. This way all the steps are right there in front of you. This is what I do. Just a suggestion. If you DO decide to give it a shot then maybe this might help. I wish you the best in which ever you decide. I just wanted to share this with you because having a printed guide has really helped me out in the past. Good luck and best wishes to you!

If your Hboot still says *locked* you cannot flash a recovery.
Please get the correct Hboot from here & follow flashing instructions: http://unlimited.io/hboot-downloads/
You can then proceed to flashing recovery.
Right done that even though the green line never goes to the end my hboot no longer says locked. I put the recovery zip on the sd, booted into bootloader said yes, completed and rebooted, but no custom recovery there?

HTC Sensation 4G screen replacement (lag/inaccurate touch)

I've already install the the Digitizer before noticing that there are multiple versions for our phone. I have to slide the circle multiple time before I can log in to the home screen. I already S-OFF, ROOTED and SUPER CID and seems still laggy when pressing text keys when texting or when pressing the lower buttons the home menu file or back or search sometime I have to press it twice to work.
I used the PG58DIAG to calibrate the screen and still acts funny is there a fix to this?
Honestly I think I would try to match the screen as close as possible to the appropriate version for the device. You said there are multiple versions of the screen. Which version would be most appropriate for your device ? Perhaps you purchased the wrong version. Is their a way to find out which is the correct version of screen for your device ? If so, I would purchase the correct version. Perhaps this is what is causing the issue ? It could be the wrong version. This is what I would try if I were you. Its likely that with the correct version you won't have these issues. I hope this helps. I wish you the best. Hopefully with the correct version, it won't give any issues.

I had this same problem. I purchased before finding there were multiple versions. The digitizer was slow, unresponsive, and inaccurate. I am also rooted and am running CM10. I went into the debugging and enabled the option to view touches and found that it was registering screen touches in certain areas and that caused everything to malfunction. It was a faulty digitizer. I was fortunate my seller sent a new one and it was working perfectly.
Unfortunately I broke the LCD on the second digitizer install and now have to replace that! lol
I would suggest you go into the debugging options and enable the options to see what the screen is registering. It will put a dot everywhere it thinks you are touching and you may notice it is a faulty digitizer. Cheap ones from ebay happen to have a pretty high fail rate. It can also have dead spots where your touching doesn't register. Both are hard to diagnose without those settings.
Good luck.
