16GB or 32 GB - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In two minds whether to buy the 16 or 32 GB version. I know I can add a big SD card to the 16GB but how much space does the stock rom take up?
And where in the UK can I get the 32 GB?
Thanks

Obviously you should get the largest capacity you can afford /find. I got mine From best buy 16 DB is all they had in stock
wish it were 64 DB.or had apps to SD will have to use directly bind im guessing. not understanding those scripts in dev area some things need to be on main storage.
Would like a method of being able to select what to move

Get the 32 GB if you can afford it. Otherwise, the 16GB is adequate with an external SD.
Of course this varies for user to user.

The internal memory - how much is actually available?

I know that they are supposed to come with 4 gigs of memory. My phone its is telling me have have under a gig. Now, I haven't had out long and I only have a few apps. Could myes rooted rom take up all the available space? Or is there's another source? Thanks!

I think you're confusing internal vs SD card storage. My understanding is it's 1GB internal, and they ship with 8GB SD card (originally they were going to ship with 4GB SD so that's why there are some sites with bad specs out there).
I have a ton of apps installed and I still have half my total internal available.
I was told that the phone had four gbs internal in addition to the eight gig card.

I believe you were misinformed. And I stand corrected, it's got 768mb internal, and 8GB flash storage.
Actually it does have 4gb of internal memory, but you can only use slightly over 1gb. This was the same issue with the G2.

I'm not sure this is accurate. What's on the 4gb ROM? Makes no sense to have 4GB of read-only memory on any device.
If the OS\support is generally under 300mb, and is housed within the 768mb, what takes up the 4GB ROM? That wouldn't make any sense. I know there was some bad info that went out when the phone first released.... I think this may have stemmed from that.
I know ot doesnt make sense bit thats what it is. Liok at all stat sheets for.the phone. There is a pile of memory that is rwad only holding a backup of some kind.

The OS itself is stored in the 4 gig internal SD, and uses RAM out of the 768mb. Even though it has 4 gb of internal storage, the way its formatted only let's us use 2 gigs. its formatted for speed and stability rather than size, therefore we lose half of it, then the OS takes up almost a gig, so now were down to 1 gig of usable storage on the internal card, then we have the 8 gb external.
And I believe the 768 of RAM is for running processes, for multi-tasking.

Sounds like the same engineers who designed the AT&T network had their hands involved in this phone's design process.
Let's put a 20 gallon gas tank on a car, but weld a divider down the middle so someone can only put 10 gallons of gas in it. LOL
There was the same issue withe the G2 when it came out. It confused the heck out of a lot of them.

I'm still noy buyin it that there's a mystery 4GB in the phone.
Looking at the root system it's about 500mb, of which 300mb is free (for tasking), and then I have about 250mb of apps installed, which adds up too close to 768 for coincidence in my mind.
If there were a 4gb ROM floating around in there, it'd be absolutely useless. Obviously the OS isn't installed on it, since It's ROM (read ONLY), and apps don't use it as storage (read ONLY), and it's not used for multitasking space (read ONLY), so there's no logical explanation for it.
MY theory is originally the phone was going to ship with 4GB memory card, and they changed it to 8GB at the last minute.... and that was an artifact that got jumbled with the old specs.... because GSM Arena and AT&T both show 768RAM plus 8GB SD Card only.

GSMARENA Inspire 4G
gsmarena also states 4GB INTERNAL STORAGE, not ROM specifically.
From their site...
Internal 4 GB storage, 768 MB RAM
Card slot microSD, up to 32GB, 8GB included, buy memory
There is a thread in this forum with this issue questioned, and some guy emailed HTC. The answer we are telling you is the same they tell every one. This is not AT&T HTC phones do this, look at the G2 the Thunderbolt. It isn't a lie they are telling every one. That is what they use the memory for, some sort of back up(I don't know exactly what it is backing up). HTC does this with all the newer phones.....
Here is a good answer for this guys, we lose half the available space for speed and stability.

I agree, I just pretend it only came with one gig and honestly, with 93 apps (50 on Sdcard), I still have 650 mb left so it doesn't bother me too much.

internal storage

why did htc only put 1 gb of internal storage into this phone. does anyone know what the reasoning was by doing this.first reports had it with 4 gb of internal storage now its 1gb. i know you can add memory via sd card but why not just make the internal memory 16/32 gb. not bashing the phone, i have mine on preorder and cant wait. this will be my first android phone, but just would have liked it to come with that much onboard.

How is ADATA as a card supplier? I've only ever used Kingston & SanDisk & never had any issues. I've been looking in to getting a class 10 16GB card for when tmous drops the Sensation on the 8th & newegg has this one (when it comes back in stock).

Supposedly it has 4GB but only 1GB is user accessible (1.1 from what others here have reported).
first android. start learn. 1gb is nand data partition. (4gb all nand, system, cashe, data) used for system data (contacts, sms, u.t.t.) and apps. cant used for downloads and media. not need more.
but it would be better to have 16gb internal storage cause flash storage is always faster than a sd card (at least in terms of access time)
Seriously guys....it's no problem.
I got my sensation 3 days ago, installed 35+ apps and it hasn't even made a dent in the internal memory.
It's not like the desire if people are thinking it'll come to that.
After 35+ apps, i still have 800mb left of memory. I've got big games installed.
Seems a lot automatically install onto SD card without even telling it.

They did it because it was cheaper to put a smaller amount of NRAM in the phone.

Of the 8 or so Adata cards I have purchased over the years, (With 4 kids, a wife and my toys, MP3 players phones, cards for work) I have only had to RMA 1 card, one time and they had an amazingly great support group here in the US.
Very happy with their products!
Good to hear Barff1984. sorry but i am new to android so i though 1 gb of storage was not going to be enough for apps. this will be my first android/htc phone and just want a great first experience.
As a current Desire owner, internal memory is the real killer for me. I've not been able to install an app in months as there is no room left. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Sensation mainly because of this (and it's just SO fast!). Just wish it had an amoled screen like my Desire. It looks so washed out in comparison.
it's 100x better than the desire when it comes to apps. I'm running out of things to download now (V heavy app user) and still have 70%+ space left of internal
So yea, don't worry about the internal memory....I've yet to find an owner who said they've run out of space. Unlike the desire.
It's actually quite strange moving from a desire. I used to have to delete a lot of apps, then reinstall at a later date when i wanted them. My Appbrain account was constantly used to reinstall...with the sensation though, i just installed everything...I'm going app-happy

[Q] Full 32 GB Storage?

Hello,
I just bought the G2 used that has 4.2.2 so rooting should be easy; just wondering if there's any mods to be able to use the entire 32 GB storage or if any custom ROM can allow the use of the entire 32 GB of internal storage.
Thank you

The internal storage chip is physically 32GB, so just like a computer hard drive, the file system will cut down on that. So no, you can't use the entire 32GB of storage, ever. However, if you install one of the lightweight ROM's you might be able to free up some space. Not entirely sure, as I just got this phone as well. Personally, I'm a bit confused on how to root this thing ATM. Should I follow Utesred's root guide, minus the reverting to 4.2.2 step?
If you are on JB 4.2.2, use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869
Roms are around 200 megas, that should leave at least 30gb, can anyone confirm if that's the case?

32GB of flash memory is actually ~29.8GB. Conversion here. Marketed gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes, but the actual size is 1,074,000,000 bytes. Android partitions the storage just like Linux, so the storage available to the end user is actually smaller than the total. These partition sizes differ based on the phone, so there might be some issues if you try to re-partition it to open up more space. If you want more room for media, best bet is to get a USB OTG cable and a small, high capacity USB drive, or some companies sell drives similar to this.
Sorry, but someone more versed in the LG G2 in particular would have to chime in to give you the specifics. You could try asking on the general G2 Q&A forums.
Based on the lack of basic knowledge of drive space. It would be simpler to answer the op original question as a virtually impossible task for someone of his skill level. Changing the partitions size to optimize for space brings up all kinds of problems even in a custom rom.

32GB=sufficient storage?

Self explanatory title (note I'm asking "sufficient", not "enough")
How are you guys finding the onboard storage situation w/ your 32GB models? I'm unclear how much use the SDcard would be. Sure, you can point your camera + Spotify cache to the SDcard instead but just looking at my iphone 6, I would still have need another 17-18GB to cover other apps and their data (this is w/o a silly amount of games). I know you can move some apps from onboard storage to your SDcard, how do you find the performance difference?
A bit bummed over SG's seemingly shortsighted decision to limit most global markets to the 32GB variant. From what I've seen online and with a few demo units, actual free usable storage comes in around 14-16GB, which is fairly pitiful. If Android "only" uses 8GB, where's the extra? Is TW and other add in that large?
NB: I posted the same question in the S7 Edge forum, but I'm curious what the regular S7 community thinks about this topic
I guess 32gb is pretty enough and do the job very well , but 64gb is the perfect storage in my opinion.

That story was so misleading to most ppl, the guy who showed that screenshot had 16gb free after he installed his own apps, now ppl think it only has 16gb free out of the box !
Yeah, it's frustrating how the tech media scaremongered that false info around. Storage out the box is ~24GB for US carrier versions (8.08GB taken by Android System) and ~25GB for unlocked models (7.27GB taken by Android System).

I had 16GB on my S5 with a 128GB µSD, but the 16GB internal memory was really an issue since moving apps to the SD card is not always working as it should (I had to use FolderMount to solve my issues, but I'd like to avoid having to find workarounds like that).
32GB should be ok though.

No i don't have mine yet, im just good at math, 32-8=24
I had 64Gb on my S6, and barely made it to 10gb of apps. 24 gb for apps/data is no problem I would think since you can save music/photos to the SD card.
Every phone that I've had SD card on has always been 16gb or 32gb phone an I've never needed anymore than that.
I've moved all my games to my SD card and performance is fine for those type of things.
For me 32 (24) GB is definitely not enough..
I want the 64gb version at a minimum.

haha right. the demo unit i played with also had 16GB free, but i couldn't tell how much of that was demo-related bloat
UK Exynos S7 = 7.27GB System Memory
Leaving ~24.5GB available.
The only thing on my phones which begin to hit storage problems were Titainum backups along with my podcast library. Everything else would probably fit in less than 10 gb, and that includes hearthstone.
AppMgr III and a 64gb sd card works for me just fine. Of course AppMgr III can no longer clean the cache all at once. It wants you to go to the storage settings for each app and empty the cache.
