hi, i just got a sony ericsson xperia x8 with os android 2.1 update 1, and i want to know what and how should i do for me to be able to install application on my SD Card memory instead of my Phone memory, i have search on the web for it and got some application but none of them workd. can someone please help me on this and tell me what i should do, i saw smething called rooting but could not figure out what it was as im new to android. thanks in advance for your help???
To get the ability to install apps to SD Card, you need to have Android 2.2 or higher.
It doesn't support Android 2.1.
There are many good ROMs available here in XDA. To install them you need to ROOT your X8 first.
Here is an YouTube video exposing how to root XPERIA X8 (as I figured you need a video tutorial) :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb9e99VT3Os
After you root it, you are independent to flash any CUSTOM ROMS.
I suggest Cyanogen Mod :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17047484
With that you can install Apps to SD card by default or move them or force install to SD Card.

No, there isn't any risk in rooting a phone.
Only risk is Carelessness which can lead to a brick.
Make sure to know about your Android version, Kernel and Modem before rooting and match them with the file with which you are going to root ur device.
Until you are careful on doing the instructions step by step and carefully, nothing in this world can damage your device when rooting.

hi every1.
(first thread - be kind )
i have a friend who just bought non brand android phone, looks like iphone from the outside, from china (i hate him for that lol)
it's running an android GB (2.3) with iphone theme (to match its outside looks)
i wanna upgrade the OS to ICS or JB.
although i'm a pretty 'techi' guy i don't have the slightest idea about ROMs \ Flashing \ cooking etc.
because it's non brand i couldn't find the proper place in the forum to ask this question.
the Android Dev and Hacking forum looks like it's not for noobs...
maybe General discussion > General ?
where can i ask this? in what part of the forum?
(haven't attached any link to the on-line store or uploaded any photo 'cause i'm not sure this is the place to ask the Q.)
thanks in advance for any help.

You can install apps that will root the phone. Everyone has different experiences I used Universal Androot and it worked perfectly but thats not to say that it wouldn't brick your device. Anyway once you root the phone the next step is to set up superuser permissions to allow apps superuser access to the linux kernel. After you install superuser app get Rom Manger and connect yourself to a wifi network. You can install clockworkmod through rom manager into your phone's recovery partition. Once that's done put a custom rom on the sd card as a .zip file. then install an app called terminal emulator. open the terminal and type "su"... click allow superuser... then type "reboot recovery"... the phone will switch off and come back on in clockworkmod... select the zip to install and enjoy! *I am not responsible if you brick it*

It depends on the device. If you can find a CyanogenMod 7.2 port for it somewhere I would recommend that.
If u can find out details and the specs (chipset, etc) u maybe able to find another Chinese clone that's identical that has ROM development for it
Search for different apps that'll give u this info, also try generic rooting tools
Basic Tools, Knowlage & Files You Will Need
Ok lets begin i have been asked quite a few times so here it is. These are the basic tools files etc. you will need. I will write an brife explanation of what these tools, files are for and what they can do and installation instructions.
7Z.used to extract zip file contents used mainly to compress data files to save space and time uploading & downloading find it here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Winrar
Used also to extract zips but also rar & tar files download from this link: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0
Flashtool
Flashtool was created by Bin4ry & Androxide legends around here it is used to do various things the main reason you will probably use it for is recovering from a brick The Main uses are flashing flashing stock firmware that come in ftf file format (which stands for "flash tool file") kernels can come in this format to and are flashed using "flashmode" enterd by holding down the volume down key while connecting the usb cable when you see a green led that indicates "flashmode". Flashing custom kernels these normally come in .img format (which is an image file) and require an unlocked bootloader. Sony lock there bootloaders to protect their DRM key which are security key for media apps like track-id & facebook inside xperia. Custom kernels are needed for custom roms like Cyanogenmod, AOSP, & AOKP A custom recovery can come in this format to to flash .img files we use "fastboot" for this (which is enterd by turning off phone and holding volume up key while connecting usb cable a blue led will indicate your in fastbootmode then click on the lightning bolt on flastool and select fastboot mode to open the fastboot toolbox) These ate the basic operations you need tho know...
download flashtool from the flash tool home at: http://androxyde.github.io/index.html?1350585408000
Installation
download flashtool from link if its in a zip format extract with 7z. You will get a flashtool launcher double click and follow the on screen instructions then reboot you pc/laptop.
Driver Installation next we need to install the flash tool drivers Tipo/Dule/Miro/J/E dont have the drivers in the package so you will have to download them separate do a search get use to that you will be doing a lot of it when you have found and downloaded the flashtool drivers extract the zip with 7z. you will get an FTD file (flashtool driver file) copy and past it in the flashtool sub folder devices (to get to flashtool folder right click on start menu then click on expolore you will see all the files on your computer find and click on flashtool you will see more sub folders we want the devices folder) after you have pasted it there exit to desktop start flashtool and click the devices tab then import a window will pop up with you device click ok then it will import you devce drivers when its finished your done flashtool is all set up congratulations!
FTF Files
Ok ftf files are the bundled parts of the Sony stock firmware created buy someone through flashtool & SUS (sony update service) mainly used to recover from a soft brick or if you have unlocked your bootloader then it will be the only means you can update stock firmware as sony will not let you officialy update your phone as they will class it as modified. when downloaded it would probably be in a zip file (se 7z. is coming in handy ) Then start flashtool and drag the extracted ftf file into the flashtool window (the big white box) click ok and files will begin to prepare. when they are raedy a window will popup with a phone and a usb cable on it this is telling you to connect a phone in flashmode do by holding the volume down key while connecting the usb to your phone (keep hold of volume down until flashin process starts) when its all finished reboot there you have it you flashed a firmware. You can flash between platforms like Gingerbread to ICS or Jelly bean to ics.
Find all the ftf firmware files here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385526 and make sure you thank the member for making the thread by pressing the Thanks button
Rooting Your Phone
Rooting your phone is hacking in to the software to gain access to the root system files hence the term "ROOTING". This allows you to modify your phone install apps that require root permitions, run performance tweaks and flash custom firmware.
Root ICS
There are several methods but unlockroot roots all ICS Roms Link: http://www.unlockroot.com/download.html
Root Jelly Bean
To root Jelly Bean 11.2.A.0.21, .31,.33 Firmware's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=23 and thank the great and powerful DoomLord
Clockworkmod Recovery
Clockworkmod recovery All so known as (CWM) was developed by Koushik Dutta (Koush), a well-known name in the Android development community. It is a custom recovery that backs up and restores android roms exactly how you left it at the time of the backup. It also is used to flash CWM flashable zips like mods apps or even an entire firmware. CWM has not been ported to our device running jelly bean only ICS there are 2 but the best one is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003069
For CWM on jellbean look a this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333078
I think thats it to get you started fellow xperia users hopefully i will change or add things when needed or when new things are released happy modifying and

[Q] Any changes if you're rooting on a mac?
Hiya,
great tutorial -- im a total newcomer and have been reading (what seems like) hundreds of pages on this site for the last few days, trying to learn how to root my phone. i think i have it the process mostly down, but the one thing i'm not quite sure about is doing everything on a mac.
my phone (arriving in a few days) -- xperia E (C1504 version) i have a 32g sd card from my current phone that i will probably re-use (unless this isn't advisable?) as i understand it, i'll have to unlock the bootloader first, then root the phone. my plan is to just remove the sony bloatware, install a fairly vanilla rom, and make the cpu/battery run more efficiently. was thinking about the vengeance kernel, too.
ive read through a few mac-specific threads, but was wondering if you (or anyone else) might be able to point me in the right direction when it comes to doing all of the above on a mac.
many thanks,
mei

Hello,
I have got my TF300T for about a week now and i already used up 9,5gb from the 16gb it has so i bought a sd card just to find out you cant move apps to sd card(so far i know). so i did a little more research and found out that you can move apps to sd when your tablet is rooted, but i am a little scared that i am gonna wreck my tablet when i do that because i read that many people stumble on bricked tablets, and because i have never rooted anything before.
do you guys think i should root my tablet?
and when i root my tablet do i have to instal roms and all that stuff basicly all i want to do is move apps to sd.
or does someon knows a way of transferring apps to sd card without rooting
sorry for my bad grammar
ps: Does someon has a link to a dummy guide for rooting
Rooting is very easy, people have bricked their tablet because of a bad flash: this requires unlock, root doesn't, just download motochopper extract it, on your device go to settings>developer options and enable USB debugging (if you are on android 4.2 you have to go to: settings>about tablet>press build number about 10 times>developer options>enable USB debugging)
Now connect your tablet to your PC and go to the directory where you extracted motochopper and open run.bat (windows) and press any key
Done your tablet should be rooted

I think i am gonna root my tablet.
Do you have any recommended apps i should use for moving apps to sd or meaby some other usefull apps?
One last question is there anything i should watch out for when i rooted my tablet?
I would suggest reading EVERYTHING about rooting your tablet and flashing a recovery. I would also recommend using TWRP as your recovery.
The 2 apps I use the most are Titanium Backup and Root Explorer.
Again, I cannot express how important it is to READ ALL of the info related to rooting and flashing a recovery. This section is filled with threads people have posted because they have bricked their tablets rendering them totally useless.
Good luck!
Added. A recovery is not needed but highly recommended. Your choice.

Thanks for the help
I successfully rooted my tablet
but i am stuck with a problem and that is moving apps to sd
the apps that i have seen so far are:
- link2sd ( don't really know if i should use this because u need to 2 partitions on your sd and people lose data all the time)
- GL to SD ( does not show all my games)
if someon knows a good app for this that would be great

Need help to unlock bootloader!
Hi guys. So, I just got a Y330 - which is cool. It's rooted, which is even cooler. Can I unlock the bootloader? Can I heck. It would be easier to pull teeth out of a hen's beak!
I have tried everything conceivable, I've googled it to death, and I'm not paying $30 to do with this, what I could do with my (sadly defunct) G510-0100! So, does anyone here know please, a free (relatively easy) way for me to take Emotion UI 2.0 off this handset? I tried the unlocker it gives at the Huawei Club website, but the phone model isn't listed, and I can't get my phone to tell me the Product ID, which makes it useless
Help welcomed! Thank you
Cannot root the damn phone
Hello,i could use some help with rooting the y330.
Ive tried every rooting program there is and nothing.
Ive tried :
Framaroot
vroot
kingoroot

The only time it succeded was with rootgenius but only for a few minutes, after that it unroots itself again.
If anyone has any more ideas please share!

I so hate the Huawei styled UI - both icons and modified popup styling.
So I've been working on creating a ROM based on the original one combined with a few of my own modifications as well as some mods from Speedys material mod - and now, I think it is ready for sharing with you guys.
It is rooted and lots of Huawei stuff is gone. Finally, I actually kinda like the phone now.
To install it, first get CWM installed. Then simply copy zip to an SD Card and install it. Please let me know what you think about it - and feel free to push the Thanks! button.
Enjoy.

After installation and first start, it will notify you to update the SU Binary. Select the TWRP/CWM way to install. The standard way will fail.

Ive got a Sony z1, and I rooted it yesterday and I want to have the 4k and Timeshift mod. I want to make this as simple as possible, I'm not exactly a noob, I'm pretty experienced with computers and such but I'm new to android. I want to make it as easy as possible so just in case i stuff up my phone, not brick it, i can easily use SuperSU to unroot it so they can't deny me warranty. In SuperSU there is a button saying "full unroot" or something on the lines of that. Well apparently I don't have to deodex my rom, i can install the mod without that. What is the simplest way to do so?
I am running KitKat 4.4.4 14.4.A.0.108 and it took me ages to root it. Most of the files on this site didn't work, when I downloaded them it just didn't download. I think it is antivirus which I cannot disable. Anyway I found a file that worked called new root and then my phone is rooted. I installed SuperSU Pro from the play store, it has a yellow and red triangular shaped icon. Please tell me if I have installed the wrong one. I installed it, its by chainfire.
All help will be appreciated.

Hi,
Here is a guide for the 4k mod for your device,
Sony Xperia Z1 > Xperia Z1 General > [VIDEO] Step by step guide on how to get 4K and 120fps on Xperia Z1
You can register on XDA and ask for help in that thread if needed.
And yes, SuperSU by Chainfire is fine... Many prefer it over "Superuser".
Good luck!
The Download Links and Complications
On the video description it says it is only for 4.4.2 but I have 4.4.4 Will is still work correctly? I also don't quite understand what it means by flashing something through recovery in the video. Do I just put the downloaded file (something.zip) anywhere on my sd card then from recovery how do I access the file to flash it?
All help is appreciated, thanks for helping so far
Please ask for help in that thread. ?
