[Q] should i root my tablet? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have got my TF300T for about a week now and i already used up 9,5gb from the 16gb it has so i bought a sd card just to find out you cant move apps to sd card(so far i know). so i did a little more research and found out that you can move apps to sd when your tablet is rooted, but i am a little scared that i am gonna wreck my tablet when i do that because i read that many people stumble on bricked tablets, and because i have never rooted anything before.
do you guys think i should root my tablet?
and when i root my tablet do i have to instal roms and all that stuff basicly all i want to do is move apps to sd.
or does someon knows a way of transferring apps to sd card without rooting
sorry for my bad grammar
ps: Does someon has a link to a dummy guide for rooting

Rooting is very easy, people have bricked their tablet because of a bad flash: this requires unlock, root doesn't, just download motochopper extract it, on your device go to settings>developer options and enable USB debugging (if you are on android 4.2 you have to go to: settings>about tablet>press build number about 10 times>developer options>enable USB debugging)
Now connect your tablet to your PC and go to the directory where you extracted motochopper and open run.bat (windows) and press any key
Done your tablet should be rooted

I think i am gonna root my tablet.
Do you have any recommended apps i should use for moving apps to sd or meaby some other usefull apps?
One last question is there anything i should watch out for when i rooted my tablet?

I would suggest reading EVERYTHING about rooting your tablet and flashing a recovery. I would also recommend using TWRP as your recovery.
The 2 apps I use the most are Titanium Backup and Root Explorer.
Again, I cannot express how important it is to READ ALL of the info related to rooting and flashing a recovery. This section is filled with threads people have posted because they have bricked their tablets rendering them totally useless.
Good luck!
Added. A recovery is not needed but highly recommended. Your choice.

Thanks for the help
I successfully rooted my tablet
but i am stuck with a problem and that is moving apps to sd
the apps that i have seen so far are:
- link2sd ( don't really know if i should use this because u need to 2 partitions on your sd and people lose data all the time)
- GL to SD ( does not show all my games)
if someon knows a good app for this that would be great

I will join this topic, couse i wanna root my tablet to , but i want to overclock it. Can this be done, just by rooting, or do i have to instal rom?
Tnx
I am noob with rooting, so dont be short with explaining

You need different kernel because stock doesn't support overclocking, for which you need to have custom recovery which obviously needs unlock, so, sadly no... but rooting allows you to customize your CPU freqs., turn off some CPU cores for battery saving,...

Should I root?

I just bought a wifi only xoom and I'm loving the awesomeness of the device. I don't think I'm a noob, I've rooted all of my android devices but I'm a alitle hesitant. Besides that small eclair update I can't remember the last time we had an unfinished os. Don't get me wrong I still love this device and won't trade it for anything but is is worth rooting just yet? Once we get the next honeycomb update can we update with root? I don't think you can but will will the root process for any updated version be quite easy because of the nature of the xoom? Just a a few questions, thanks...

I haven't rooted either. My phone is rooted and rommed but I'm hesitant with my Xoom
YES!
There have been a lot of threads with that question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008674&highlight=root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039304
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036185
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017223
There are other threads that have helpful information embedded so just search for "root" and you will find a lot of stuff!
First off the fact that you are on XDA leads me to believe that you will eventually root your Xoom. There are not really any clear cut advantages of leaving it stock. There will be an update in the future to enable the SD card and being stock may make that easier to apply, but you probably know as well as the rest of us that we ROOTED users will see that update in a flashable .zip file. The advantages of Rooting are pretty clear however, Superuser permissions to remount the system folder as R/W in order to add more features, such as Ad-hoc network connectivity. Over Clocking which in my opinion not terribly important but it's nice to have the option. We can flash a custom recovery to make nandroid backups as well as aid in further customization. We can enable USB host mode and use 3rd party accessories. And last but not least we have SD card usage before everybody else. So there you are, there are lots of reasons to Root your Xoom. It's super easy and the sooner you do it the better because unlocking the bootloader will wipe your storage. Have fun and please reply back if you decide to root it.

Has there been any indication of when that update will come out? I am personally thinking it will be easier for me to wait and root my Xoom after we get that (and then it should be possible to use an update.zip type root). On the other hand, if it's still several months away it might be time for me to take the plunge

[Q] New Xoom owner.

Hello
I have just ordered a Moto Xoom from the UK.
I'm writing this thread to ask a few questions. I have a htc desire, which is rooted and running successfully for over a year, so I understand rooting to a extent.
1) Does the SD Card on the Xoom now work?
2) Is there any one click type solutions for the Xoom? Eg the desire had unrEVOked.
3) Are more apps being made compatable? Or is it like the iPad whereas iTouch apps look small ?
4) With the Addition of AdwEx, is it worth rooting?
Sorry for the slightly newbie questions:$ Thanks in advance !
Search the dev section. You will find what you seek.

I suggest going to the General section and finding the Xoom Heaven thread. There's lots of info there. about rooting, great apps to use, all about recovery, etc.
There's a new universal root tool, but one-clicks as such don't work so far for the Xoom. You need to set up what you need to use adb and fastboot on your pc, hook up the xoom, oem unlock, flash the CWM recovery, and flash the Xoom root zip, then a custom rom and/or kernel if you like. The Xoom is great out of the box but unbelievable when rooted/customized.SD card works. Lots of great tablet specific apps--more everyday.
Thank you for the reply , I'll check out the thread
So to double check SD card access works without root?
And why is rooting better for the xoom?
Thanks again

If I'm not mistaken, native SD Card support came out with Android 3.2.2 (been awhile since I was out in the game, when I jumped back in everything changed xD ).
With the xoom rooted, you'll be able to back up your whole system, strong support for SD Card support and support for using USB Thumbdrives as well.
There are some 1 click root out there that's more like 100 clicks (pretty much you click, read what the message tells you to do and follow. Like it'll tell you what to do when you in fastboot and to unlock the bootloader, etc, but not sure how up dated it is, it's usually better to just do it manually).

I've been rooted since the start, so from my understanding, the most recent update gave read-only sdcard access. But rooting gives r/w access, usb host mode, overclocking, over/under volting, and a whole slew of user controls and improvements, depending on which rom/kernel you flash. I recommend it for the additional smoothness. ADW EX only makes it better.

Usb host mode gives you access to thumb drives and external harddrives, like WD Passport. You can also use a usb keyboard and other devices. You will need a USBOTG cable to access host mode.
Ok thanks so read only you can play music or install apks you already had on the SD? (hypothetically)
And yeah I love root on my desire but I'm not so sure about my new to be xoom, some review videos show the xoom being quick anyway an I don't really see many custom roms, so basically wondering should I aha
Sorry! And thanks
Ps) newest stock launcher vs adw?

Hi there! I run the Xoom Heaven thread. I was just glancing through this question thread and noticed my thread was mentioned by good old okantomi. If you need any root answers, please ask away on Xoom Heaven.

Rooted my Xoom 3.2...now what?

Let me start off by stating that I'm not totally new to rooting android devices. I own a EVO 4G and have been messing around with root for a while on it. The DEV community is huge and there are a overwhelming amount of options available.
Like I said, I already rooted my stock 3.2 Xoom and have d/l all the essential ROOT apps like Titanium, MyBackUp Pro and a few others. However, I'm not quite sure where to go next. There doesn't seem to be too many options in term of ROMS and I'm not quite grasping what the ROMS have over rooted stock.
I'm not asking this in a nasty way, I genuinely want to know what the next logical steps are to maximize the use of my Xoom.
Besides that general question I have a few more specific questions:
1. Can I download ClockWorkMod Recovery through the app?
2. Can I overclock using SetCPU?
3. Haven't put a MicroSD card into this thing yet but am I able to save apps to the SD with rooted stock?
Sorry for the noobiness!

1. No. You have two choices and you can find them by looking here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979 and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235170
2.Yes, once you are rooted and have installed either a Tiamat rom or kernel or Rogue kernel. You will find them in the Xoom Heaven thread in the begining of the General section.
3 Not without doing 2., above. That's one reason to root and mod. FYI, most Honeycomb apps aren't initially setup to write to the external sdcard and require a bit of fooling with, and most, if not all apps need to be run from internal storage (sdcard). I couldn't do without the external sdcard though...I use it to flash fliled, backup nandroid, and have TB backing up my apps and data to it, as well as playing my music, and video collection from it.

[Q] Couple basic rooting questions for a noob

Hello all-
About a month ago I picked up an S3 with Verizon. While I did have an Android before, I never knew what rooting was until I was doing some basic research on the S3. I see some pretty good stuff, so I am thinking about making the plunge. I have answered a lot of my own questions, but I still have a couple.
I have found the correct procedure for rooting my S3 (already got the JB OTA) thanks to open1your1eyes0 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
Seems pretty straightforward...
My questions are:
1. Using open's procedure, after rooting will my phone looks exactly the same as now? I thought I had read somewhere that Verizon apps such as My Verizon mobile VZ navigator etc are gone with this procedure?
2. With this procedure I will not lose any installed apps, contacts or photo's correct? (Unless I want to put on a different ROM)
3. I am a little concerned about this binary count I have read about.... is there an easy go around?
4. Finally, rooting as above, will this allow me to put apps on my SD card rather than the internal memory, or are there additional things I have to do?
Thanks to all in advance who contribute to this site!!!!!

1. Your phone will be the same just with root access.
2. You will not lose your apps until you flash a custom ROM.
3. There is an app called triangle away that will take care of that.
4. You might have to install an app to do that.

No problem if the verizon apps did disappear you can find them in the play store.
You can't put apps on the sdcard unless you create and run a script that in essence tricks the phone into thinking that the extSdCard is the internal sdcard

Some ROMs have that script. I think it requires busybox or some other app that can run scripts.
Good a place to ask as any I guess.
If you just want root to de-bloat the phone, do you need to do the boot chain switching and install a custom recovery? I'm still confused on that part. Or can you just superuser via odin and leave it at at that?

Busybox gives the phone the ability to run certain commands that the android os doesn't contain natively I think. Then gscript is a good program to run the script. I'll try and do a search for it and post it back here.

[Q] Denver TAC-70051

Hey guys, I'm just interested if anyone knows how to root a Denver TAC-70051 tablet... I know it's a rare and cheap tablet, reason for which it is not actually known or bothered with, but I really would like to root it to change some of the stuff that bug me about it...
I have tried RootX but it did not work (also could not install the drivers offered by the rootx thread, and I was unable to find any others to fit my needs).
If anyone has any suggestions, I would highly appreciate them
uhh... anyone, please?
oh c'mon, please, someone?
hellloooooo? anyone here?
I also have this tablet and would love to know how to root it. Does anyone have a method that could be used?
Google is your friend try to find who makes the board and cpu and try to find another tablet that is identical idk if you will but that'll probably be your best jope

Rooted denver tac-70051 with android 4.1.2 universal rooting method. Just curious if theres any kernels with memory swap option for this tablet or cyanogenmod that works with allwinner tablets like this one.
Very Simple
It is very simple, I managed to make a program for rooting this tablet, the script is not mine, I just modded it to work with this tablet.
Step 1. Install Android ADB drivers from adbdriver.com/upload/AdbDriverInstaller.exe , then extract the zip attached to this reply
Step 2. Open RunMe.bat (Make sure you DONT run it as admin!)
Step 3. Make sure your device is unplugged, select method 1, then after "Daemon Ports running" appears plug in the device
Step 4. Follow on screen instructions, it will ask you to make a backup and to restore, this is noremal you will no lose any data
Step 5. If all goes correctly you will SuperSu App on your Tablet
USE THIS AT YOU OWN RISK!!!
Have fun
Does anyone know how to FACTORY RESET this tablet?
