Hey guys.
I was running on the stock deodexed 2.3.3 GB rom and out of nowhere my phone freezes. I disconnect the battery and start it up but now it won't register on the network
It says "searching" on the lockscreen and I have the no signal symbol at the top.
I try to go to my network setting but it says "insert sim card to access network services"
WTF?
The sim card works in all my other phones.
I've reflashed the phone with 2.2, 2.3.4, and 2.3.3 again but nothing
I've even odin'd a couple of modems. Nothing. How is this possible?
Can someone lead me in the right direction to fixing this?
Cheers and thanks!
I'm assuming you're still on t-mobile right?
if you want to stay on a stock rom, it'll be fine for you to follow the GB Starter Pack guide I wrote. The link is in my forum signature.
Check your imei in settings. May be corrupted.

Im having the same issue did everything according to key on this link
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-s-4g-to-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware/
Worked perfectly no problems but when i load up the phone No Cell Service. Am i missing something?
If you are using an unlocked phone there is a good chance that you will need to insert your apn's manually using APN Manager from the market.
Check and see if you have an updated sim card. remove the sim card and look at the side with the gold contacts. You should see numbers printed on that side. If you have numbers then you have the new Sim card. If not you have a old Sim card that could cause issues. t mobile will update your card for free if you have an old one. Just bring it to the store.

Or like Samoira said check your emie on settings.about phone.Status..check if you have regular numbers or garbage characters!

Hey guys. I found the issue and thought I'd share. Somehow the sim reader got gummed up so I sprayed some electronics cleaner in it and worked excellent.
If anyone ever has this problem just head to your local hobby store and spray it!
Summary:
Have a Sprint Nexus S
Wrong ROM was flashed resulting in a SIM CARD LOCK on a device which doesn't even have a SIM card, all functionality of device lost
Need either a PUK to unlock or a way to flash correct ROM (usb not recognized on any computer)
Details:
I have been searching forums for days, been to the Sprint store 4-5 times, talked to tech support, international CS, Roaming, etc. Someone from the Sprint store recommended I ask for help from XDA - I hope you can help me!
I have an EVO, it was damaged so before filing an insurance claim, I decided to buy a Nexus from Craigslist because I had been wanting to try the Google phone out. So, I found one online for $180, met the guy and purchased the phone. It was rooted when I got it and would not allow me to get into the programming mode (*#*#811325#*#*) for the Sprint folks to activate it. I talked to them forever and knew in the back of my mind the issue was likely due to the phone being rooted. So, after looking around online for the method to "unroot" the phone, I flashed a stock rom to the device.
Now, it has no signal, under Phone Info, the carrier is unknown, the number is unknown, etc. Under settings (Security), I notice there is a check mark next to "Lock Sim Card, pin required to make calls). I cannot uncheck the box, change the pin, etc without a sim pin number.
I have been told I need a PUK # but Sprint cannot help as they say this phone doesn't even have a place for a SIM card. I have been on the phone with them for hours. Since then, I filed the claim for my EVO and am happily using it. However, I have this phone I just paid close to $200 for which is useless until I get this resolved.
Please help me! I would be forever grateful!
Think you'll need to install the correct ROM, which I believe you can find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13633537#post13633537
Flash the correct rom and radio via fastboot.

Just wondering, if his USB is not recognized, would it be recognized in fastboot or recovery? How would he dl a rom/radio if he can't connect USB?
Op I would check for any existing nandroids on the phone.
Sent from my Nexus S
If USB wasn't working, there is still a chance it could work in fastboot. If it was a driver issue yes, if a hardware issue no.

Thanks for your quick replys. I have been a regular visitor of this site for a while and have installed 10+ roms before so I don't consider myself a newbie, however, I'm not sure how I am supposed to download the "correct" rom and install it with no USB. The Nexus doesn't have a mini sdcard slot, only internal memory which must be accessed via USB.
I will google "fastboot" as soon as I get home in case the answer lies right under my nose, however.
Thanks again!
i have a Motoroi XT720 rooted. i just want to use 3g, sms, call features of the phone. is there a way to maku it unlock?
anyone guys?
come on guys,anyone?
Well, I'll tell you that I've certainly read your posts each time you bump this, but I hesitate to answer because your question is so vague and without any details to work from.
The only way I know to remove a sim lock is to use the various shops/online stores that sell unlock codes. As far as the how to get 3G working... you need to find out what frequencies are used by your carrier and what their apn settings are.
Oh, my bad. What should i post here about my xt720? Is unlock code the only way?
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
I don't expect you need to unlock, but *you* asked about it in the first post...?!?
I'll just suggest that your phone is in your hands in front of your eyes giving you trouble. Most of us just aren't psychic.
If you want help, you need to tell us what you need help with as *specifically* as possible. If you don't want help just continue what you're doing and before long you'll be on everyone's block list.
yes,but i dont know which term to use with that "unlock thing"

Try typing words exactly as they are displayed on the phone in a dialog/error message or take a screenshot/photo. I can't even guess what "unlock thing" means. I assume you flashed the ROM yourself? Did it work on stock before you flashed the custom ROM?
oh to be clear ,the problem is i cant use SIM card. no signal, no recognition, no anything.
and yes i flashed the rom by myself. And on stock rom it does not work also.

"Sim Pin"
my phone's current state is no gsm. no sms and call features. no phone features.
I think a sim pin code is different from a subsidy lock (but I'm not 100% certain--subsidy lock is sometimes called a sim lock--sorry, it's confusing). A subsidy lock is what requires an unlock code. I know some people have reported problems using sim pin codes when using Motoroi ROMs after they were ported to Milestone XT720 (I think it was mostly French users that reported the problem--you can try searching the Bravo and XDAspecial threads in the XT720 Development section). IIRC the CyanogenMod's usually haven't had this problem, though and your signature say you're at least tried a CM7-based ROM.
I think people are suggesting that your carrier might be able to help you troubleshoot the problem. It sounds like a configuration problem on your sim card. It could be that you need a different sim card or that they need to reprogram it. At the very least I think you should know what the sim pin code is...

Sim pin lock: you have to enter a pin that you choose to use the phone
Subsidy lock: the phone is sold under contract by a particular carrier (suppose: SKTelecom) and only will work with a sim card from that same carrier.
To remove a sim lock you need to get an unlock code. I have not done this, but there are companies that you can purchase this from online. You have to provide them information about your phone (IMIE code and others I think) and they use some server to compute an unlock code that you enter in the phone. I think the online services charge something like $15 to provide the code. There are many videos on youtube showing how to unlock the XT720 (for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSCNxR2yzMw -- not an endorsement/recomendation/anything of that company -- just the first thing I found when searching youtube for "xt720 unlock"). So you can look at those videos and see if that's what you need to do or if you're seeing something else. There are also links in related videos that claim to tell you how you might go about generating the unlock code yourself (warez).

Hello XDA
The thing is I get from eBay an Infuse 4G in mint condition, then I root it with OneClick tool and after that I made a sim unlock following this thread, which worked extremely fine, I even call a few friends, family, my son, etc.
OK the phone comes with an AT&T stock gingerbread Android and I maded all calls in it... so logically, like you see, everything worked fine. Well, after that I installed via CWM this CM7 and calls my attention that after install it fine, in the SIM PIN check, I type it and then it put me the typical "Unlocking SIM Card..." message and behind I can see how it get my carrier's name, even radio signal bars... I even received an SMS, I know it because I see it on the notification bar... BUT the "Unlocking SIM Card..." message never disappear, preventing me from do anything.
I reinstall that rom wiping even my mother and the same happens again, so I though it was the rom. OK, I install another CM7 rom and got the same. Until there I began to think it was a problem with my SIM reader... but if you remember I maded calls minutes ago, right? So I was like ... actually I still like that.
The last thing I did was change and install a MIUI rom expecting some changes... and nothing, I have the same "Unlocking SIM Card..." message and obviously is not my SIM reader, otherwise I couldn't see my carrier's name and radio signal bars.
This is the rarest thing I've ever seen.
Can anyone help me?
Best regards.
Put sim in another phone. Then go to the security menu and turn the sim lock off. Then put the sim back in your phone.
SIM lock does not work on CM7 or MIUI.

I'll try that. I went back to AT&T stock Gingerbread and everything works fine with SIM locked or not. I'm rooting it again so I install CM7 or MIUI again and see what happens. However I must be able to have my SIM locked or not. I really don't know what happened there.

I'm saying that you can't use Sim lock on CM7 or MIUI. You have to disable it or use a different ROM.

Bump! Did you got this thing solved?
I have the same situation with an Infuse but I cannot get it solve
I tried by removing the SIM lock on a S2 with stock ICS update but when I put the SIM again on the Infuse I still getting the "unlocking SIM card" message

I totally solve the problem mate, in my case I did what you have done because in CM7 or MIUI Sim Lock don't work (which I have no idea why, it's stupid)... but when I disable it from another phone (it doesn't care which Android version have) I solve my problem... so I have no idea why you haven't solve it yet.
My American friend came to Finland with her T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Blaze. She is not an expert in technical things but she mentioned that the data (messaging with different messaging apps) works with a Finnish SIM card but the phone calls won't work at all.
I took a look at her phone but didn't find anything strange. Any clue where this issue might come from? The phone is with a stock ROM so it's neither rooted nor flashed with a custom ROM.
Thanks in advance!
I imagine the phone needs to be carrier unlocked.

OK, haven't ever heard that a SIM locked phone would be able to handle data connections but not the phone calls
If that's the case (if that phone is carrier locked), would flashing a Cyanogenmod etc. help to unlock the phone?

Nope, flashing Cyanogenmod will only change the OS of the device. Unlocking it is a way different scenario. You would either have to call the original carrier for an unlock sim or buy a unlock code at a store that does it or online.

But is it really so that the SIM locked phone can handle data connections but not the phone calls?

Impossible. She of probably doesn't know what she's talking about (no offense) because if it was unlocked both data and calling should work. Never was there a partial unlock for one thing to work.

OK, if there's no such probability, then the SIM card of her phone must be "data only" type of SIM card.

Nope. That's not how a cell unlock works. It can't be unlocked to one certain type. If its unlocked BOTH data and calling should work.
