Xoom doesnt wake up - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys so my xoom has been good for over year but suddenly within the last 6 months something funny has been happening. Sometimes when i press the power button at the back the xoom refuses to wake up. And i can keep pressing all i like but it just wont wake up. At times i wait for about 10 minutes and it will work again, but other times i have to soft restart it. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

Mine started doing the same thing at about 6 months as well.
It would restart with a reboot with the power button and vol up, but not with just a press of the power button alone.
Luckily it was still under warranty and the repairer replaced the motherboard.
It has been fine for several months now.
Hope yours is still under warranty as well.

Noticing the same on EOS Stable. Very rare, but happened once or twice. May be worth flashing another ROM and seeing if the issue persists.
Regards.

Don't get it on the nightly builds. They are generally very stable, but lately it has a few issues with lag and audio.

I'm using CNA ROM and happened one time or two only... But it was because I was performing many operations at the same time, so it was really slow. If happens too constantly I'd go to Settings>Developer Options>Don't keep activities (check that) and Background process limit changed to "At most 1 process" or "At most 2 processes", you'll loose some of the Multi-tasking but it will be better...
All the best,
your friend - XxLordxX

I'm just not seeing this - my latest mods have made it faster than ever for me, and by extension, should be for everyone else, too ...

When it has happened to me, there has generally been something intensive happening in the background, so the theory posted above may ring true. It may also be worth upping your min processor speed to 312Mhz or experimenting with different governors and seeing if that helps.
Regards.

Maybe so, but I was strictly speaking about those nightlies where everyone was having issues. I guess it was fixed before I even realised. lol

Just to report, switching to CM from EOS cured my sleep/wake issues. Issue most likely resides with the EOS kernel. Obviously all hardware is different, so this doesn't affect all users.

[Q] Why does my G2x keep shutting off randomly?

I've only had the phone for less than 24 hours and I'm ready to send it back. Someone help me out please.
My phone keeps shutting down randomly. I rooted, installed CWM (Yes the nvFlash), Installed Evils ROM from the dev section.
The phone shut down right before bed last night and it must have done it sometime through the night because I had to restart it in the morning. Today it turned off a couple of times and my logical thought was that it was the ROM.
I switched over to EaglesBlood 1.0.5 hoping it would be a little more stable. It took a little longer, but it still shut completely off.
Nevermind the battery life I just want it to stay on. I'm no genius, but I'm pretty decent with ADB and terminal if I can fix it. Let me know if I'm overlooking something.
this phone has several issues. check the rest of the forums. what you are experiencing is one of them and it only gets worse from here.....

I've read most of the issues. I was hoping there was a way to fix it. I talked to a customer service rep at the Tmo store today. He said there is supposed to be an update released by the end of the month.
I rooted so I never have to worry about releases. Usually Cyanogen and his team are all over this kind of stuff. (Cue G1)
I really wanna know why it's doing it and how to fix it.
You by chance have an app that flashes the home buttons as a notification? When I deleted that, my random shut offs dropped...
Is it shut down? Or is the screen black? I get the occasional black screen... if you hit the power button the screen gets a little brighter... if it's that you can just do a hard reboot, power+volume up

Still not working
Okay I think this will help out. I'm been trying different ROM's for a couple of weeks now in an effort to get this to stop this is what's happening.
1. The phone shuts off completely and you need to pull the battery out to get it to turn on with the power button.
2. The phone turns off during a call or during use and starts up again with the boot animation.
3. Shuts off while charging in the middle of the night or while on the car charger.
What app needs deleted or removed? How do I do it? I'd like to post the solution up for anyone having this same problem.

Download this Rom. It is based off of the GB update from LG and lets you keep root. It may solve your problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158513

I am getting the same problem with my G2x randomly and whiles its charging and I have tried roms CM7 Nightly, EaglesBlood, Trigger, and MIUI but all start shutting off sooner or later. Tell me if that rom fixes yours.

[Q] CM10 Phone's Screen Stays Black When Unlocked

So what happens every so often when I hit the unlock button is that my phone screen won't come on. Everything else works fine but the screen isn't on so obviously I can't see what's happening. Is this happening to anyone else or is this a possible hardware malfunction? It's been happening with several CM10 based roms over the last month and a half. It's gotten progressively more frequent.
Sounds like you're getting what they refer to as SOD. Its buggy software in CM10 that will hopefully be sorted out soon.
I agree, likely SOD. If your kernel allows control of CPU voltages, I would bump them up for the lower clock speeds. Seemed to help for me.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Which "unlock button" are you hitting. It's a common issue with the CM10 ROMs that if you hit the home button when the phone is locked and the screen is off that it doesn't bring the phone to life as it should. I have it happen all the time and just have to hit the home button several times or hit the power button to unlock it. I haven't tried seeing if the phone worked with the screen off like you mentioned I've always just tapped the home button till it lit up finally.

This drives me crazy and it has me considering using another ROM. Is it fair to call this "stable" release so if this keeps happening? Just food for thought.

Realize this post is over a year old but it helped me fix my issue. I used Benchmark and Tuning (available for free on play store) which allows you to choose a few types of governors one of which was on demand. hasn't black screened since. Thank you guys.

Nexus 5 not shutting down. instead restarts

When I long press the power button and choose shut down it does not shut down. It restarts. If I choose shutdown a 2nd time, it will then actually shutdown
Strange, never heard of this. This is a constant trend? I suppose if I were in your shoes I'd do one of two things:
1) Factory reset
2) Use Fastboot to unlock the bootloader and then flash the factory image via fastboot again
Although, I am not sure either of these options will solve the problem they are the first two steps I would take to resolve it.
Had this once!
Happened to me a little earlier too...
I bet in every one of these cases the phone was plugged in and or charging...yes or no?
Ive had it happen to me too, but it was plugged in

Mine did this the very first time I tried to shut it down after getting it on release. However it has behaved correctly ever since.
I had this yesterday as well, I'm glad I found this thread because I thought something was up with mine, hopefully they'll fix it in the next update.
can anyone that is having this frequently check whether just after one of these reboots there is a file in /proc called last_kmsg?
thanks!

Long pressing the power buttton for about 10 seconds is the same as a battery pull afaik, so not sure this a bug.
the described issue happened to me a few times but I'm sure is due to the case I have - basically the power button is re-pressed and the phone turns on after being shut down. other than that never used power off too much after going custom rom - most of them have a reboot option and the phone is pretty much on 24/7.

Power button magically stopped working

Out of nowhere my power button magically no longer works. Kind of a huge deal since I use my phone for work a TON. At first I thought it was the ROM but then I rebooted into recovery and discovered it doesn't work in there either...... but by some sort of miracle though my phone magically boots itself up when I swap batteries in it....
I am rooted and running Beans 20.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

You can get an app called button savior from Google play that allows you to create on screen keys to turn off your screen.
Various xposed modules allow you to remap your physical keys. If you don't know about the xposed framework I highly suggest looking into it.
Furthermore I believe some custom roms have key mapping built in.

My power button just started malfunctioning too. I'm on Odin barebones 4.1.2 stock and the problem persists.
It sounds like a lot of people are getting this problem. If you use that knowledge to your advantage, I've heard people convince Samsung it's a manufacturing problem and got it repaired outside of Warranty. The power button itself is sautered onto the motherboard, so unless you really trust a mobile repair company, best option is work directly with Samsung.
That being said, I'm going to look for an Xposed Framework module that can remap the power button.
I looked for one, didn't really find what I was looking for... selling mine on ebay now to pay for my new phone...

Wow. My power button just stopped working also.
My phone is stock.
I did replace the glass myself a couple months ago and it's been working fine until about a week ago. Was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Interesting to see I'm not the only one having issues.
Kind of timely now that the S5 is coming out this week.

This is happening to a lot of people. I'm sure the s4 will start having this problem followed by the s5 after a year and some months. Im done with samsung phones until they start using different parts. Actually thinking about the next nexus phone and hack a msata drive into it with a custom vacume formed case. The only reason I haven't owned one is because of the storage limitation. I think a 200+ gigabyte msata strapped to the back would fix that problem.

Hey guys, mine originally starting messing up on Saturday, and then Sat night and all day Sun is was fine, and now it is doing it again. I even installed a new rom and it is still doing it so now I am convinced it is purely physical and not rom-related. What are you guys going to do?
I have the Wireless Phone Protection for my phone and am thinking about using that to my advantage to get a new device....question is I've never done it before. If I say I have a physical problem with my phone then won't Verizon want it returned? That will make me have to unroot it and bring it back to out of box state which is a big headache. What if I just say I lost it or it got stolen? Am I better off going that route?
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that along with these power button issues my S3 also will not reboot on its own. If I select Reboot (be it from the power button menu, notification pulldown, etc) it will just shut off and not reboot.....but if I yank the battery and put it back in it will then reboot to recovery. Same deal if I do a normal reboot, haven to yank and replace battery. You guys having these issues too?
So a couple of days ago my power button started acting wonkie as well. I would push it and it basically acted sticky. I would push once but it would register twice or as a long press. Either turning the screen on and off or bring up the reboot menu. So I did the xposed button remapping. Worked pretty well, but if I restarted the phone it would do a weird haptic feedback thing every couple of seconds before finally booting up.
So I wasn't satisfied with just living with it being a hardware issue. So I downloaded latest cleanrom to flash from cm11. I rebooted recovery and now it just vibrates every couple of seconds. Would not make it to twrp. It will get to cm Samsung boot screen but then just goes back to vibrating black screen. I took out battery and popped out power button but same results.
Any suggestions? Think power button can be fixed by repair shop or is it time to go back to my trusty droid incredible until I can upgrade.

It can be fixed. There is also a way of temporarily making the power button work but I don't feel like explaining it again. If you do some searching there are at least 20 threads that have the temp fix in it.

Freezing - Not sure if random

So since about 2 days ago the phone just start freezing. Sometimes it just restarted randomly, but mainly freezing at least every 5 minutes. The power button alone wouldn't turn it off no matter how long I held it. Always have to use Pwr+Vol Down to reboot.
I put up with it because I've been busy, but finally tried wiping cache - no profit. Tried safe mode - no profit. Factory reset- negative profit. After the reset it just seems to restart a bit more often but in general it freezes less, making the timing seem even more random.
This happened when I first got it (used). It was restarting due to the fresh 7.0 update. So a factory reset fixed it and it was smooth sailing for like 3 months or something. I know there was a minor system update a few days ago but those dont usually call for a factory reset. I tried it anyway and it just didnt work. I had actually even tried uninstalling all the app updates from the night before it started happening. but safe mode couldn't even fix the problem so I guess that was moot.
Software version: G920VVRS4DQE1
Stock everything - I dont hack my daily drivers at all
Android 7.0
Mainly I'd like to know if Im alone. A fix would be great but I'm hoping it's not specific to my device. If it's a hardware issue I'm gonna give it a swift toss down the stairs and maybe deliver a nasty curb stomp to it right afterward.
Any advice?

Good to know its not just me. Did it start after a recent update for you also? That would give me hope that its not faulty hardware. Maybe just a bad update.

Same for Verizon. I guess I'll just hold out, using a backup phone, until a new update hopefully fixes it.

Gonna go ahead and revive this. It seems to work fine when the sim card is out. I recommend you see if it's the same with you. I've charged it up before work multiple times before work days and come home from to see that it never restarted. I was able to test this using the fingerprint feature; it isn't asking me to use pattern like it does after boot.
No one else is chiming in but, since we're both on Verizon, I'm having a feeling that it's directly related to the SIM/carrier.
