I've only had the phone for less than 24 hours and I'm ready to send it back. Someone help me out please.
My phone keeps shutting down randomly. I rooted, installed CWM (Yes the nvFlash), Installed Evils ROM from the dev section.
The phone shut down right before bed last night and it must have done it sometime through the night because I had to restart it in the morning. Today it turned off a couple of times and my logical thought was that it was the ROM.
I switched over to EaglesBlood 1.0.5 hoping it would be a little more stable. It took a little longer, but it still shut completely off.
Nevermind the battery life I just want it to stay on. I'm no genius, but I'm pretty decent with ADB and terminal if I can fix it. Let me know if I'm overlooking something.
this phone has several issues. check the rest of the forums. what you are experiencing is one of them and it only gets worse from here.....

I've read most of the issues. I was hoping there was a way to fix it. I talked to a customer service rep at the Tmo store today. He said there is supposed to be an update released by the end of the month.
I rooted so I never have to worry about releases. Usually Cyanogen and his team are all over this kind of stuff. (Cue G1)
I really wanna know why it's doing it and how to fix it.
You by chance have an app that flashes the home buttons as a notification? When I deleted that, my random shut offs dropped...
Is it shut down? Or is the screen black? I get the occasional black screen... if you hit the power button the screen gets a little brighter... if it's that you can just do a hard reboot, power+volume up

Still not working
Okay I think this will help out. I'm been trying different ROM's for a couple of weeks now in an effort to get this to stop this is what's happening.
1. The phone shuts off completely and you need to pull the battery out to get it to turn on with the power button.
2. The phone turns off during a call or during use and starts up again with the boot animation.
3. Shuts off while charging in the middle of the night or while on the car charger.
What app needs deleted or removed? How do I do it? I'd like to post the solution up for anyone having this same problem.

Download this Rom. It is based off of the GB update from LG and lets you keep root. It may solve your problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158513

I'm flashing this ROM now. I'll try running it for a few days and see if I get any improvements.
I hit the thanks button. I'll post what happens.
I am getting the same problem with my G2x randomly and whiles its charging and I have tried roms CM7 Nightly, EaglesBlood, Trigger, and MIUI but all start shutting off sooner or later. Tell me if that rom fixes yours.

What's up xda forums.had a couple of concerns with my phone. my nexus s stock running 2.3.2 rooted and unlocked. Here are some of my issues so far
While driving and on the phone, sometimes the call drops after making a nasty sound and stays stuck on the hanging up screen and I can't make or receive a call till I reboot.
When turning the phone off sometimes and turning back on, the screen hangs for a while and 4 seconds later ill feel the phone vibrate 2-3 times and go back to normal in which its not lagging.
When opening my gallery the phone takes about 5 seconds to show me my thumbnails of my photos.it does this every time. Also when I take pictures it takes about 10 seconds to see the photo I took. When talking on the phone I drop alot of.calls or I hear the person sound like a chipmunk lol.
Is my phone messed up? Is the stock rom messed up? I flashed a stock image thru clockwork after I tried a alpha cm7build. Was it corrupted or is my phone a pos. My nexus one never gave me this many problems.
Any help would be great

Well, yeah, most of your problems have been mentioned by someone here at one point or another. Some of them have workarounds, some are waiting for fixes from Google.
I think if you try a few searches with the search button in this and the General section you'll find already lengthy discussions on most of those issues.
These problems started after you flashed back to stock?
Try clearing caches and reflash I guess.

Maybe even a fastboot oem unlock again to force a TOTAL WIPE of the phone. Be careful, sdcard contents are wiped too.

The only major issue I've had only happened once, and it happened for the first time yesterday: Without me touching the back button it started flashing and going back through the app I was in at great speed. It was rather frustrating but its only ever happened the one time.
What some people forget is that the Nexus One also had a lot of problems apon release,
All was ironed out by google

I was able to make one of the problems repeat.. seems cause of the case i have everytime i hit the power button my thumb seems to hold down the volume rocker right in the middle. i then unlock the phone while its still tying to catch up from something.. cause 4 seconds later it will vibrate 2-3 times and the phone is back to reg speed.. there something wrong with my rom or can ya make this happen too?
Yup I get most of these issues too, it really spoils the experience. Next time I'm not gonna get a google phone straight upon release, it's really not worth the hassle. Also does anyone have problems with the wifi? Mine is horribly weak its a joke, struggles with wifi from my bedroom which my laptop and old Iphone 2g handled fine

I've had my G2X for about a month, and have been experiencing the common issue where my phone randomly shuts off and the only way to get it to turn back on is to pull the battery.
I've installed the GB update, that didn't fix it. Factory reset didn't help either.
Has anyone successfully fixed this issue on their phone? If so, what'd you do? Is there any chance that rooting my phone would correct the problem?
Sorry if there was a post about this, I couldn't find anything talking about if anyone's been able to fix the problem.
Thanks
yes... the onlyhh way to fix the problem is to root! nvflash clock work mod recovery, then flash eagle blood 2.3.3 rom and it is perfect...
Thanks, this did indeed seems to do the trick. Not a single reboot so far after 2.5 days.

My G2X actually restarted on its own today. It was the first time since the first few days I had the phone over a month-month and a half ago. Wasn't really a big deal, lol. It comes back on.
Have been playing with this phone for 3 days now and haven't had any issues (I did install xboarder's stock rooted version). Minor screen bleed is the only issue.

Finally, someone (dmaniscool) who can say they switched to an xda dev'ed ROM and got rid of the lock ups. I've posted many times asking if anybody ACTUALLY FIXED a problem (specifically the battery pull lock up); I got no responses, and someone finally stated it. Great. Next time my wife's G2x locks up, I'm rooting and putting a ROM on it.
Thank you dmaniscool

Will do, so far so good! I had no experience with rooting, and was able to figure it out looking at the guides available on the forum. It kind of looks intimidating, but it's not actually very difficult.

Mine did both actually, shut down and restarts. But mostly just shut downs, which required a battery pull to power back on.
My 2 will do both - but I think the "shut-off" is a lock up, because the longer I leave it locked up, the less battery I'll have after I do a battery pull.
8 days of both phones not locking up by doing one restart per day per phone.
Since I raised the minimum CPU speed to 389 from 216, I have far fewer sleeps of death
You don't wanna know where this was sent from.
I've tried every ROM and kernel combination possible and nothing actually fixes these problems for me.
Wow this post was scary at first, I had a thunderbolt and no matter what. RUU, Different ROMS, Stock, Kernels, Radios. Changing all that didn't matter it still turns off constantly and doesn't turn back on till I do it meaning no text or calls, basically same as having a phone on silent all the time without even having the luck chance of pulling it out while ringing.....
I am on miui x.26 (whatever kernal that comes with it) and have over 40 hours of uptime. I haven't had a crash yet, I just manually restart every couple of days because I'm weird like that.
Sent from my LG-P999
Well 6 days into it and I've had a total of 2 shutdowns. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but both times were after being outside when it was ~90 degrees out.
This is still much improved, I used to get 3-4 per day on average.
I'm using Eaglesblood 2.3.3. I'm thinking of trying MIUI because it's so nice looking.
For me I did a battery replacement the first time directly from T-Mobile and the phone continued restarting on me. I was just about to request a replacement phone from T-Mobile until I recently purchased a different brand of battery containing the same specs as the stock battery and to my surprise no overheating and definitely no restarts. I feel that the restarts and lockups are due to faulty batteries shipped out with the phones. I'm suprised no one has mentioned this.

Wow, I told the CostCo kiosk girl I was having lock up problems and I had my grandkids with me. She took my phone and pulled the battery - at the same time my grandson stated he had to go to the bathroom NOW. She either looked at the battery or something on the phone under the battery. I didn't have time to ask. She didn't really comment and gave me my phone back.

ok so do they know what exactly is causing the shut downs or reboot on this phone? i just got mine today and it was pre installed with gingerbread and idk if there is root for the gingerbread build yet. i just want root but no custom rom for me. i love the stock rom. it kicked the crap out of my sensation 4g as far as speed goes in everyday use.
So, I don't know what happened. I didn't touch a thing on this phone, haven't changed any settings or installed any apps for weeks. However, just now, my phone has decided to start acting up in a bad way.
I'm on Paranoid Android 2.52, and I have been for many months now, with no stability issues of any kind. However, without any warning or cause on my part, something got reset. The first thing I noticed was that all of my settings reset to the default Android settings. I had to go through and change all my settings back to how I want them. Then I discovered that there's nothing I can do to get my lockscreen to work again. I have it enabled, I've tried every variation of lockscreen on this ROM, with delay, without delay, but the lockscreen just won't show.
Then I noticed that my notification bar won't display any notifications. It'll show the time, battery, Wi-Fi and other small logos. But the alarm, timer, text, e-mail, etc. notifications will not show on the bar at all. My phone will vibrate when receiving and e-mail or text, but no notification will appear.
Then I noticed that in SMS Popup, which I use, I can't un-hide the message on the popup. I have the privacy set such that I have to tap the little eye logo to display the message. But now that logo no longer responds. It will change color on press, but will not un-hide the message. All I can do is close the popup with the message unseen.
Then I noticed that my home button doesn't work. Either short- or long-press. Short-press should take me to my home screen, long-press should take me to recent apps. It does neither. My phone will vibrate when I touch the home button, but it does nothing. I've checked my settings, and they are as they should be. The button just won't do anything.
I'm sure there's many, many more issues I'm yet to discover. What on Earth happened to my phone and how do I fix this?

Yeah, I ultimately decided that the only thing I could do is just go back to stock and work my way up to BeanStalk. I enjoyed PA for a while, but all the BeanStalk discussion piqued my interest.
Anyway, I just wish I knew what happened to cause my phone to spontaneously fail so completely. It's seriously of a case of it working before I put it in my pocket, and it being completely ruined when it came out.

Yeah. As soon as I went back to stock, everything was immediately back to normal. But, my past three phones have all lasted anywhere between 21-24 months without any problem, and then suddenly falling apart like the Blues Brothers car and becoming completely unusable overnight, just in time for me to upgrade to new phone with a discount. And, since my contract is up in a couple months, I wouldn't be shocked if my phone's about to have its end-of-term breakdown.
I'd really like to avoid the introductory prices on the S4, though... If I could keep this phone going until about June, I'd love that.

Yeah, I'll admit Scott's solely responsible for keeping my interest in this phone. A year ago, I was still on Froyo and I was getting bored with it and wanting a new phone, but I stumbled across PA somehow and thought I'd give it a shot. Three PA roms and Bean Stalk later, I'm still loving my Infuse.
The problem is that the hardware's just not holding up anymore. I'm having the famous power button issue. I'm going to try to gut my phone and clean the button myself, but beyond that, there's not a lot that can be done about it. I'd really love to dedicate the Infuse to an alarm clock/media player when I get my new phone, so I can still have something to mod. But I just don't know how I'm going to adjust to the sudden lack of customizability when I get the S4 with a stock release of Android.
Hi there,
I have a Rogers Galaxy SGH-i727R. About three weeks ago, the phone started re-starting on it's own. I though maybe it was a sticky power key and had that replaced. The problem persisted. I then noticed that it was primarily upon receiving text messages that the phone would reboot. So it seemed it was a software issue. I am running the stable build of CM9.
Yesterday the phone rebooted and never got off the angry alien screen. I pulled the battery, charged it etc and still could not get it to fully boot up. I left it for over an hour. I finally decided to call it quits and re-flash the phone. Problem is, it will not boot into recovery at all. When I hold down Vol + - and Power, it jsut goes into a loop of vibrating every three seconds until I let go and then it tries a normal boot again. Once, I briefly got a screen saying I was trying to install custom software and to press volume up to do so, but before I could hit volume up, the phone cycled off.
I should also mention that the four buttons on the bottom of the screen do not work. I accidentally sliced the wires on the side of the phone when opening it up. I use a software button saver widget to access their functions. I wonder if that issue is related....
Thanks for any advice. I would like to get into recovery so I can load a new ROM or a stock ROM.

You can get an app called button savior from Google play that allows you to create on screen keys to turn off your screen.
Various xposed modules allow you to remap your physical keys. If you don't know about the xposed framework I highly suggest looking into it.
Furthermore I believe some custom roms have key mapping built in.

My power button just started malfunctioning too. I'm on Odin barebones 4.1.2 stock and the problem persists.
It sounds like a lot of people are getting this problem. If you use that knowledge to your advantage, I've heard people convince Samsung it's a manufacturing problem and got it repaired outside of Warranty. The power button itself is sautered onto the motherboard, so unless you really trust a mobile repair company, best option is work directly with Samsung.
That being said, I'm going to look for an Xposed Framework module that can remap the power button.

I did replace the glass myself a couple months ago and it's been working fine until about a week ago. Was wondering if that had anything to do with it.
Interesting to see I'm not the only one having issues.
Kind of timely now that the S5 is coming out this week.

This is happening to a lot of people. I'm sure the s4 will start having this problem followed by the s5 after a year and some months. Im done with samsung phones until they start using different parts. Actually thinking about the next nexus phone and hack a msata drive into it with a custom vacume formed case. The only reason I haven't owned one is because of the storage limitation. I think a 200+ gigabyte msata strapped to the back would fix that problem.

Hey guys, mine originally starting messing up on Saturday, and then Sat night and all day Sun is was fine, and now it is doing it again. I even installed a new rom and it is still doing it so now I am convinced it is purely physical and not rom-related. What are you guys going to do?
I have the Wireless Phone Protection for my phone and am thinking about using that to my advantage to get a new device....question is I've never done it before. If I say I have a physical problem with my phone then won't Verizon want it returned? That will make me have to unroot it and bring it back to out of box state which is a big headache. What if I just say I lost it or it got stolen? Am I better off going that route?
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that along with these power button issues my S3 also will not reboot on its own. If I select Reboot (be it from the power button menu, notification pulldown, etc) it will just shut off and not reboot.....but if I yank the battery and put it back in it will then reboot to recovery. Same deal if I do a normal reboot, haven to yank and replace battery. You guys having these issues too?
So a couple of days ago my power button started acting wonkie as well. I would push it and it basically acted sticky. I would push once but it would register twice or as a long press. Either turning the screen on and off or bring up the reboot menu. So I did the xposed button remapping. Worked pretty well, but if I restarted the phone it would do a weird haptic feedback thing every couple of seconds before finally booting up.
So I wasn't satisfied with just living with it being a hardware issue. So I downloaded latest cleanrom to flash from cm11. I rebooted recovery and now it just vibrates every couple of seconds. Would not make it to twrp. It will get to cm Samsung boot screen but then just goes back to vibrating black screen. I took out battery and popped out power button but same results.
Any suggestions? Think power button can be fixed by repair shop or is it time to go back to my trusty droid incredible until I can upgrade.
