I won't be upgrading for at least a good month as I'm waiting for...
...assuming it comes to VZW.
I'll be working on the tool and CM9 until then
Afterwards I'll definitely hang around!

How did you get an upgrade already? I bought the TB when it came out and I have another month.

The primary account can upgrade a year to six months early. When you upgrade early they sometimes make you pay a little more but most of the time I get the fees waived.

I am thinking the same thing. But I don't know if I am ready for the Nexus plunge or just keep hanging onto my tbolt.

I'll thank you in regards to the first post.

Man, that phone sounds like it is going to be awesome! But why is everyone going to this internal memory thing only, rather than having an SD slot for extra external memory?!
I'm gonna go crazy!
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium

If they make it internal its one less thing they have to worry about breaking. Plus they don't have to provide a memory card which is probably a lot cheaper making it internally. Lastly I think it may be a measure to prevent or slow down rooting.

My upgrade comes next month but I think I'm going to hold onto my Thunderbolt until the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes out. Either that or a new Nexus.

You're a bit off. Why allow for removable storage? If you have a set amount and cannot change your SD card, you now have a hard space limit you never had before. When you can't store anymore on any device people look to cloud technology. We all have data plans so we can all use it. Now tell me, who provides cloud technology? Google has drive and Play Music, and they now offer movie rentals through the play store. If I can't store a movie file on my phone I'd be more inclined to rent and purchase my video files from them.
That is the reason why SD cards are being phased out. It allows for the advancement of cloud services which would hopefully lead to greater profits for companies such as google(and some manufacturers have their own cloud storage services or a partnership with a storage provider).

Yea that makes sense. Never looked at it that way.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2

It also gives them the ability to release new versions with larger internal memories every few months. Because they know there are a lot of suckers out there who will pay to trade up. A trick learned from Apple no doubt.
Look at what Moto is doing with the Razor. Same concept.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app

A major flaw with that idea is that if internal memory fails you're screwed. If an SD card fails it can just be replaced. It would suck hard to have to send a phone in because the internal memory failed.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2

Crackable bootloader, 4G, removable battery and SD card storage, and unlimited data.
The T-bolt, despite its many flaws, has it all. I'm looking to stay here for as long as I can, because I like doing things on my terms.
In early January I get the privilege of lining Verizon's pockets for a newer, but ultimately more limited, device. No thanks. Contract ends in May, and I'll take a hard look at service providers then.
Until then let's keep on Verizon and HTC to honor their end of the thunderbolt bargain.
PS- The thread title almost made me think the OTA dropped. Almost.
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.

I think its highly unlikely for an internal memory to fail. Phones and tablets are being designed more and more with just internal memory. Even if something goes wrong your still likely to just enter bootloader and then recovery and restore to a previous build. For example: The N7 is built w/ internal only and no one seems to have problems with it so far.( Knocking on wood) as I speak lol

Atrix has root, Will you leave?

Ive seen today that the atrix has root, I also seen that the post was made by alot of you cappy owners hero designgears. Just wondering how many are leaving? I will be sticking by htc's side. I hated my captivate for the couple weeks I had it when it was launched, such a cheap device, and was to easy for some processes and involved no work. The Inspire is where its at in my mind for now, dual core or not this ***** flys and does work for me.
Nope HTC > than Motorola as far as dev community is concerned. I'm happy with my purchase and could have pre-ordered the Atrix for the same money I was looking at for this phone.
Sticking with HTC. I believe the grass is greener here. ;-)

Root is actually pretty easy on this phone. I must admit that I have rooted alot of phones and this one did give me some grief mostly with the gold card cause it works diff for everyone but with the help of irc channel it was a walk in the park. Plus you get to freshen up on adb skills

It has root, but they still don't know if the boot loader is locked. If it is, there will be no way to install custom roms. as far as I know nobody has cracked their bootloader encryption.
As far as fastboot not working, did you hit the power button to switch to h boot to loss the image? On the SD card I had to use the instructions to get my image then I used the utility to write the image and had no problems. @gunny ya I am curious on that as well. Bootloader controls their destiny. I still feel like I have the upper hand with HTC. To much development. Soon we will have sense, aosp, and miui. Doesn't get much better

Yes... it's because we're gadget geeks and have the attention span of a 2 year old! I got the Inspire because I couldn't wait until March 6th (the original Atrix release date) to dump my POS Craptivate.
My biggest complaint with the Inspire: No HDMI out... but I figured I'll be staring at a 4.3" screen much more often than hooking up a 4" screen phone to a TV. Also I hate where they placed the micro-usb port on the Atrix.
it just has stuff i dont need, hence finger print scanner, an outrageous priced dock. If I buy anything moto it will be the xoom

Making the switch....

Ugh this is such a hard decision but I'm honestly so tired of my atrix. Development...yeah right. Basically dead. Really wants to make me switch phones. I got offered an inspire on Craigslist and I tested one out at the att store. Top 3 for me would be inspire, sgs2, and infuse but I haven't gotten any sgs2 or infuse offers sso I'm thinking about taking up this inspire offer. Any atrix converts over here? Heard the inspire is laggy and bbattery life isn't all that great but everything seemed pretty nice to me at the att store. Can I get any input of previous atrix owners? Is it worth the switch?
Sent from my CM7 ATRIX via XDA Premium App
i have both. i currently have my inspire up for sale in the marketplace, not because its not an outstanding device, but i have had my run, i still have my atrix as a backup, and i got a new GS2 as my daily.
if i had to chose between the atrix and inspire as daily drivers, i would go inspire
the deciding factor in me keeping my atrix over my inspire is that i also have the laptop dock, and i am looking forward to seeing what can be done on it. maybe i should focus my efforts on creating something for the atrix now.....
I had an atrix. Took it back and got an Inspire. Never looked back haha. If you do decide to get an Inspire, buy pirateghost's

I like my Inspire but I don't have much to compare it to. The battery life is not teriffic, with wifi, bluetooth and the occasional GPS query I will go about 24 hours. YMMV.
Not sure where the laggy comes in. It works well for me.
This phone isn't laggy at all with a custom rom. Lagginess comes from poor development on HTCs end. It holds its own compared to the tegra2 imo ...

[HOW TO] reset AT&T data usage

so I figured this little trick out by accident actually. while it's pretty useful to know, I'd suggest not using it unless you really need to. basically don't abuse it or it'll get 'patched' (for lack of a better word).
STEP 1
have AT&T give you a new SIM card.
* going into any AT&T store and saying you're having signal issues will get you in and out the door with a new SIM in 5 minutes, free of charge.
STEP 2
you're all done.
* if you want to check to see that it worked, open your dialer, press *3282# (*DATA#) and hit call. in a free seconds you'll receive a free text message from AT&T updating you on your data usage. you'll see two lines, one of which will read (DEACTIVATED), and your data will be back at 0/3GB (*screenshot related)
anyways, try not to abuse this. it should really only be a last resort thing. so only use it if you really need it!

Would anyone care to benchmark the phone with FDE turned off and on? I'm curious how much of a performance hit it is and whether they're using hardware to handle it.

Excellent question. Not silly at all. Ars Technica just wrote an article on it yesterday! http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015...yption-guide-protect-your-stuff-and-yourself/
Since we appear to have hardware encryption, there is absolutely no downside. Much more secure. A lot of people say only the paranoid encrypt, but there is a reason so many more people know what it is and apple has been doing it for some time.
Once we get root, it might make things a tiny bit more complicated by adding an extra step to flashing roms, but the added security is worth it.

Flashing ROMs on the Nexus 6 weren't an issue with encryption. Either they only encrypt the userdata partition or the keys are stored outside the areas typically formatted by TWRP.
Of course this means little until we try flashing on the Note 5. But I'm hopeful it won't cause headaches.

Awesome. That's good to know. There was actually an option to either encrypt the user portion of the device or encrypt the entire device when I did it I think. But I'm betting you're right. The keys are probably stored somewhere else.

The primary "Pro" reason to encrypt is data security. The main "Con" has been performance slow downs, but it looks like that is no longer the case with this device.
My work uses Google Device Policy to enforce encryption if I want Corporate email on my phone. They just want to ensure if I lost the device (or stolen) the data couldn't be compromised. Otherwise I have to get emails via a SSO login app, which blows. So to be productive while traveling, I have to encrypt.
Glad to see this device doesn't take a performance hit with encryption.

For the folks that encrypted their phones. Can you access your data if you plugged your phone into you're computer?

Yes, the "Internal Storage" is available when plugged in via USB. You just have to make sure you have unlocked the lockscreen, otherwise you won't see anything in the PC file browser.

That's pretty crazy and dubious.

There's a thread about it in the Verizon G4 forums. According to the OP, Verizon is able to tell nearly everything about your phone from that app (battery level, available RAM, root or no, etc).

Theory is, that's how they find out if you're rooted. Deny it permission, and freeze the app, and they won't know.

I use it to display data usage via widget and view bill amount etc.. all that sort of stuff.
How did you get My Verizon Mobile on an Moto X Pure???? I don't even have that app. I have seen it pop up before on other phones. I have always froze it also.

I am account manager 6 lines so yea I need to for data usage. I don't see anthing wrong with it, what about you? Even though we have 30GB for 130$ sometimes it gets close to 30GB and since everyone pays their own line's bill.
Cheers

I don't want any of that Verizon junk on my phone don't use any of it... LOL
Don't need it and don't want it.
The My Verizon app and widget is and forever will be the only thing I will actually use from Verizon as far as apps go. The fact that I dont have to deal with the VZW Tones or VZW Navigator being preloaded and unremovable was all the more reason to get the Pure outright instead of the LG G4. All of those VZW apps can go burn in hell!

How'd you get 30 gb for 130? Best I have seen is 12 for 120 on my 3 lines. Much less 6. That's with a 23% work discount.

It was like a year ago when they had double promotion. Comes up to 105$ after 19% discount. Plus all lines will be out of contract in a week as of now there is only 1 more with contract.
