Are you on 4G
My guess is that you are, you're connection is idle, and you're not connected to the internet.
When you log into Google Voice, it kicks the connection back into life, then you get your messages.
This seems to be a bug as far as I can tell.
I just bought a new HTC Incredible S, but noticed that occasionally I hear clicking during phone calls. The other party can hardly hear my voice and after several seconds the connection ends. Did anyone knows how can I solve this issue? Android 2.3.3 is running on my HTC.
I have recently switched phones from my HD2 where I had no problems on T-moble uk. I upgraded to a desire S and I am having the following problems, I have had the changed so im on my second desire s and the problems not fixed.
My phone can have full signal but when someone trys to ring me. they cannot get through. my phone doesnt even ring. However I can normmaly ring someone from the phone fine.
I dont recieve sms very quickly either but its consistance I dont recive them until 13mins after they have been sent.
Is it an option im missing? has anyone got any ideas?
Willing to try anything it driving me nuts
Have you tried a different Sim in your phone? Or tried your existing Sim in another phone?
This doesn't sound like an option setting

as my sign flag..im from malaysia dude..been jumping from forum to another but still no luck :/
england? anyone got an idea what causes it? I never had this problem with this sim in my htc hd2
I have been having the same issue, not receiving calls and then getting a text message about 10 minutes later from my provider notifying me that I have missed said call lol.
Try changing your network settings to 2G only, I've been looking into this issue recently, and I came across a thread somewhere that it can be caused by the phone getting stuck in HSDPA or HSUPA mode, and not changing back to 2G to receive calls and text messages, or something to that extent.
TL/DR
Try 2G only, report back.

There are, for some people at least, problems with s/w 1.47.xxx.x (Settings->About phone->Software information) - see
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190347
and

If you read through these posts you'll see incoming calls failing/going straight to voicemail is one of the issues noted. Some posts suggest HTC have admitted there is a problem.
I searched everywhere and haven't seen any reports on this.
Does anyone else have serious call quality problems, only when using WIFI calling on T-Mobile? I get a terrible crackle/static fairly often.
I thought at first it was the built-in earpiece but I don't have this problem as soon as I switch off WIFI calling (and call over the 3G network).
What I also thought was interesting, is that when in WIFI calling... I can use my bluetooth headset or speakerphone and have zero interference/cracking sounds.
Let me know if you have any tricks, or if I should get this thing repaired by HTC! Thanks
WiFi Calling Crackling
I'm having the same issues with WiFi calling. I experienced a couple times and thought it might just be a bad connection, but apparently it's more than that. Hopefully the MR update (whenever that is) will address this
Yeah I don't think swapping the handset is going to help this one, hopefully an update comes out soon to address the WIFI calls. And hopefully Skype comes out with one too, because its static as all hell too.
I have the same issue. It was delayed as well. Odd.

I am also having that experience with Skype calls and really bad with video calls and GTA 3. Could it be beats integration?
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Don't think the beats affect calls since its coming through the earpiece. Guess we're going to need some software updates. T-Mobile mentioned there will be an update to address Wifi Calling battery life, maybe they'll sneak a fix in. I've reported it to T-Mo and HTC... You guys should too.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the phone, minus the pain in the butt power button! Its so flush with the case, it is difficult to press.
yea i also heard about a update rolling out looking forward to it
+1
Getting a slight / medium crackle during conversations on wifi. Crystal clear on GSM.
I get the crackle too, any word on a fix?
Just a reply to say I have the same issue on two One S phones from tmobile. I had to set wifi calling to use cell when available, as opposed to using wifi when available. The crackle was so "sharp" and pronounced that I was about to return my phones because it really sounds like a hardware issue/loose speaker parts in the earpiece! Thankfully, it works great with GSM, so it seems to be software only. And, if I need wifi calling in a pinch, I'm willing to put up with the crackles. If I had to rely on it (due to low signal in my house), it would be very frustrating.
Also on wifi calling sometimes callers could not hear me, or I them. That only happened a couple of times to me, but was a major reason I demoted wifi calling.
By the way, this phone is absolutely amazing! Fast, fast, fast, great screen, great battery, great metal shell... would love to remove Sense because it buries all the Google App integration and favors everything else, but that's a personal opinion.
Skeeboe
Yeah the feel and speed of this phone are just incredible. It just seems like there is some software kinks that need to be worked out.
Another one I've run into recently is YouTube links directing me to the mobile site rather than the native app (which is another problem with the 3 dot menu lol).
I hope they don't rush the first update and work to address some of these quirks.
Yea, I had the crackle issue on my first handset (kept having it randomly reboot) but haven't tried on the new handset since it seems they now have to enable the wifi calling feature on the account and my account is to old to enable it...or so they claim.
Wait so is the wifi calling crackle you t-mobile guys in the States get the same as the crackle I get when using Skype on my One S in the UK?
US t-mobile here. skype's crackle is much worse, impossible to deal with. wi-fi crackle is sporadic and annoying.
I'm completely confused about the whole crackle thing now. I've seen and read about your US T-mobile wifi calling which I now understand and skype crackles a heck of a lot for me. So I assumed that it was a VOIP calling problem but I used Viber to call someone over wifi last night and there was no crackle at all on a 30 minute call. Oh well I won't complain about that, would be nice if skype was working for video calls though
I am experiencing the same issue with WiFi calling too, which is a pain because I primarily make my calls over WiFi. It was so bad on a conference call today I had to switch phones. Anyone know if this is a known issue for T-Mo yet, don't want to call into care if they are already aware of it. Also, out of curiosity does anyone know if this was an issue before the most recent firmware update?
Thanks!
it's hard to say if T-Mo knows about it but they didn't acknowledge anything regarding this issue, only the battery drain related to wi-fi calling. all T-Mo US HTC One's suffer from it.
I have reported it twice to TMO, first time I was told they didn't know about it. The second time a few days later, they were aware of the issue but couldn't tell me if/when they were going to push an update out for the crackle issue. If I were u guys I would report it so they may push something quicker rather than having horrible comments about their flagship ICS device!

Just purchased an HTC One S today.
I talked with T-mobile earlier today and showed them the link to the t-mobile support forum thread created for the Wifi calling quality issues (crackling/delay) on the HTC One S.
They told me that they are aware of the problem and it's a known issue. I didn't press them for a timetable to fix it or anything.
Everyone who's experiencing wifi calling issues should at least take a moment to call in to tech support or chat with a t-mobile tech rep.
We need to make sure they address this quickly. I know a lot of people rely on wifi calling on t-mobile in spotty/bad signal areas. I sure do.
I just got the update today. According to the changleog it was supposed to fix WIFI calling. However I saw absolutely no difference. WIFI calling still crackles and chops all the time and it has unusable echo with the speakerphone on.
On top of that now Fligh mode always shows "Turning off..." when I have the WIFI turned on. I did a factory reset, still no change in either one of these issues.
What is your experience with the new software?
I don't have the static that I previously had and the delay doesn't seem to be as bad, however calls aren't consistently coming through to my phone (over wifi calling) since I did the update.
I also found that Wifi Calling got worse with the update. A lot of people saying their calls are going straight to my voicemail, and when I try to dial out I have to try a few times before the call actually connects. Also, the crackle and pop noise is still present as it was before the update too. I hope more people complain about this issue so they can patch it sooner!
I'm also having the same issue and I'm having to rely on that service more because for some reason I don't have that great of coverage in my area anymore. Went from having great 4g at my house to being able to barely pick up 2g

Yeah same here with the problems. I get the crackling and popping now. I actually think it started since the update. The other weird problem is my voicemail icon does not go away even after clearing all the voicemails. Not sure if this is because I pay for the VM to text option? Oh and lastly when people call, it shows up as unknown a lot. Dunno WTF!

Going to settings option then call option there's an option to clear voicemail notifications. I just got the phone today and had to do that to clear. I haven't tested calls over WiFi I'm going to give it a try in the morning I hope it doesn't disappoint but it seems everyone is having issues.
Edit: I just gave WiFi calling a little test by calling a 1800 porn number and unfortunately I do hear some cracking or popping every couple of seconds.

I get both of these issues as well.
I don't think you're going to get cell quality with WiFi calling. I had issues with the g2x as well.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Yeah I did to with the g2x as well. I figured it would have been fixed by now. Kind of annoying when they say they are going to fix a problem but the problem is still there.

OK I'll bite...
A few things before I give you an answer here so answer these honestly ok...
1. What router do you have and what frequency is it set for and how long have you had it.
2. What's your providers bandwidth that your using? Is it DSL, broadband, T1....
3. What security are you using on your router when you connect to it?
I'll check back in the morning and give you an honest answer....
EDIT: people are expecting 4G quality from the internet and you'll NEVER get cell quality even with the best router running a T1 connection dedicated to just wifi calling, this is a free service for those who have minute plans instead of paying for unlimited service. There are ways to clean up the quality of these connections if your willing to have the patience to reconfigure your router a little and how good your ISP is and working with the limitations if there are any.
Mine is usable as well, just the popping noise is quite a nuisance.
