[Q] Just sold my iPhone... what next?! - General Topics

Hi, over the past few weeks I've been debating and debating whether to sell my iPhone or not, from constant scratches, to unsupported accessories, to out of sync flash, to sh*t maps... the list goes on!
So I took the plunge today and finally sold it on eBay, making myself the money I paid for it!
The question is, where do I go from here?
I've been looking at these phones in particular
Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC One X, HTC One X plus, HTC 8X and Nokia 920
Now I know you might say that it's all down to personal experience, but what phone would you guys prefer? I don't mind waiting a few weeks (3 max).
I use a HTC Mozart as a 'backup' phone which is very bad in my opinion, so that steers me away from Windows 8!
The reason I'm not buying GS3 straight away is due to the fact I really like getting updates ASAP and I understand the JB update isn't available yet.
Please post your opinions !

[Q] Should I get an S4 or HTC One

Hey guys. Over the last few weeks i've been debating over whether i should buy myself an S4 or HTC One. They're both awesome phones, which is making it all the harder for me to decide which one to get. So i decided to ask which one you guys would suggest.
I would mainly use the phone for heavy internet browsing and listening to music.
Also I will most likely put a custom rom on the phone so I dont really care about what software features it has.
Over here in Australia the HTC One costs $750 whereas the octa core galaxy S4 costs $699.
If you suggest a phone make sure to let me know why it's better than the other one.
Not sure what to buy next?

$750 is ridiculous for the nexus 4 when it really should cost $300. Can you buy it in eBay from us seller? At that price difference definitely Samsung or the n new HTC. Newer more advanced phone, cheaper.
I replied in the official thread, but wanted to let you know that im not talking about the nexus 4, im talking about the Samsung galaxy s4 and the HTC One
HTC One is much cheaper you can get is for about $720 (second hand on eBay probably costs ~$500) and the quality that you get is pretty good. For example if you compare the quality of the pictures taken with both HTC One and Galaxy S4 there are almost no difference. However, if you are looking for a long battery life definitely S4 is better but more expensive though.
If I were you I would buy the HTC then use it for a couple of months and then buy another new phone

[Q] UK phone recommendation please

Hello,
I've had my fun with the old Blade, then G300, then Desire S, then Desire HD and last January I purchased a One X+ from Vodafone.
Unfortunately this last purchase was of poor planning. Within weeks of buying this "latest" phone HTC decided the phone was old hat and out comes the M7 (One). I was really miffed about this, Vodafone dropped the phone from their sales within weeks of launching it too. Bit shi**y of HTC if you ask me but that's life I guess and the world of mobile manufacturers.
The phone is unlocked and rooted and there is a limited amount of dev work going on for this phone on xda (those few do a great job), but the phone has pretty much come to the end. Sense 5 has filtered out for the phone slowly, but I can't see HTC supporting it any longer. I really expected to enjoy this phone more than a few months!!!
I might sell it, it seems the resale value is still pretty good and I could easily purchase a Nexus 4 or other dev friendly phone and still have some change left over.
That being said, can anyone recommend a phone for £100 or under, decent size screen, decent specs and above all is dev friendly (plenty roms, active community, easily unlocked/rooted)?
I'm in the UK and use the GiffGaff/O2 network, so it would need to be unlocked/network free. Apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum. I was unsure where else to ask.
Thanks.
Have a look at the xperia m just got one and very happy with it good specs for the price, mine came in at 200 euro off contract.

[Q] Buy it now or wait?

Hey guys,
Just like all of us I want this phone, I haven´t got an invite yet but im patient and im sure we will all have recieved one by the end of the month.
The question I have though is if I should buy this phone now or wait for future flag ships?
I currently have the LG Optimus G, its not the newest phone but it doesnt lag and does most of the things I want it to, the main reason why I want to sell it is because I still get money for it now but in a year I wont. (Also the short battery life and bad camera - debatable)
My plan was to sell the Optimus G (on ebay they go for around 150-200€) and then buy the One with that money basically so I would have a brand new smartphone for "100€"
Is it worth it though? The One has killer specs and even though I prefer the LG3, the price blows it out of the water but with 4k screens coming etc, is it maybe worth it to stick with my Optimus G and wait until next year for some new releases?
I hope someone can help me make my decission.
Thanks guys!
Only you can make this decision, take time to read and research and form this opinion on your own as other do not know what you desire, as a similar thread already exists http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620179 - and as XDA is not a support site, this thread is closed.

Should I trade it? (TORN)

Im getting a OPO in and currently have the option of trading it brand new and sealed for a mint condition M8 and Im seriously considering it only cause of the issues I have heard about the OPO and all the negativity surrounding it. Would you guys think Id be wise in trading it for the M8? I really wanted to try this phone and like it but Im honestly just scared Im gonna get a bunch of issues and with OP customer service it seems like it would be a nightmare so I am super torn...

From a business standpoint it would be ideal to trade it for the M8 cause you can always sell the M8, pocket some of the cash and buy another OPO on Craigslist, eBay, Amazon etc.

Very true and thats what Ive considered as well. I just worry about it being a Tmobile M8 and not having the EIP paid off.. Im still super torn cause I really want to play with the OPO especially for a while especially after getting the mythical device, but trading or selling now and waiting for changes in hardware or software could seem beneficial... You see why Im torn..lol
I guess you guys haven't been seeing how much OPOs go for on eBay. Let's just say they crush the m8 for pricing simply due to the exclusivity factor.

Help? Bought unlocked Samsung Note 9

Hi, sry if I posted my question in the wrong area but I just recieved my Samsung Note 9. Been without a phone for 2.5 wks. It was nothing... (ahem... bu****it!!!)
Im an AT&T customer (I dont pay for phone service) so I was hoping if I bought an unlocked phone I might be able to root my device even though Im an AT&T customer. For some reason soon as you say AT&T customer, its like you have some super Covid strain cause nobody will come near you. Lol
Anyways, I would just like to be able to root my device so I can run a few of my fav apps which require root/super user. Im scared to even turn my device on because Im afraid AT&T is gonna patch it soon as I do and I wont be able to root my phone. Can someone please just tell me how best to proceed. Sry, I have not searched the forum yet. Im just in a hurry to get my phone back on so i can feel whole again. Im headed over to the thread for my phone now and will update this thread soon as i find out what i need to do. In the meantime any help would be greatly appreciated. Big thanks to everyone at XDA for all the love & support you guys give to the community.
Thanks and have have a blessed day!

Did you buy the international variant or the U.S. variant?

Hey sorry for the late response. Im guessing i got the US variant since it was for a Verizon or AT&T customer. Unfortunately, its a refurb and was DOA. So im sending it back today. Which phone would you buy on a $300 budget? The screen was scratched up pretty baf also so im glad it was dead out of the box. Is this something I should expect when buying a refurb. I assumed since i was paying close to market price for a Samsung Note 9 that it would be in better shape with no scratches or very few. This one was scratched up pretty good all the way around the edge of the screen.
I was also considering buying a brand new Samsung A71. Most sites online have the Google Pixel 4a listed as the top phone on a $300 budget. I just feel like Google is intrusive enough as it is already without owning a phone made by them but I hold the XDA community in high regard when it comes to cell phones, specially android variants so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and be a deciding factor in my purchase.
Again i just would like to be able to gain root/super_user permissions so i can run some of my fav apps that require root access. If im able to install some custom roms as well that would be fabulous but not necessarily a requirement. If ive learned anything at XDA its that AT&T customers are usually screwed when it comes to rooting phones, at least in the early stages of recently released cell phones.
Thanks again for the assistance guys... and gals (and those that don't identify with either sex these days.) When i was growing up, you either had a hole or pole and that determined your sex. Lol! Sorry to get political on you guys but it seems everyone gets triggered so easily these days.

Lol that last is the best sentence I've ever read in my life xDDD
But anyway, there are a few things I should point out.
-> You should only buy Samsung phones (even budget ones) if you like OneUI. If you want a stock aosp ROM, then stay away from Samsung phones since they get the least amount of attention and get a Xiaomi instead. They're phones that have communities booming and offer good quality for the price
-> If you don't want AOSP and really enjoy OneUI, then avoid getting a Samsung phone that is meant for the U.S. market and get an international variant. All U.S. variant Samsung phones have their bootloader hard locked and you need to buy a token (extra money) to even be able to unlock the bootloader and root it. Keep in mind that SOME international variants have the Exynos chip so just FYI. Though some mid-rangers offer Snapdragon across the board (U.S. or International) but yeah just avoid U.S. variant phones if you want root.
-> Lastly, avoid the Galaxy A71, go for the A52 instead. The A52 is about the same price as the A71 (in some places you'll probably even find the A52 cheaper) and the A52 has higher refresh rate, water resistance, dual speakers, optical image stabilization and an SoC that is on par with the A71.
You can request through AT&T's tech support that they turn off OTAs on their end.
Yes, yes they can that.
Or use Package Disabler to kill it.
It's probably the best solution.
