[Q] Boot manager & Supercharged install help - Motorola Atrix 2

Hey guys, i read through everything i found on boot manager, and i read the installation on the supercharged thread, but I'm still a little foggy on it. Being that the A2 is quite touchy, i was hoping someone may be willing to explain how to use boot manager, why its different from safestrap, and how i install the Supercharged ROM step by step. When i followed the instructions on the supercharged thread it wasnt very clear to me. Funny thing is I'm actually pretty good with android, i have a good knowledge of ADB, but this is my first Motorola device. Thanks

no need of special knowledge if you're on MOTO ....
bootmanager works same like CWM .... it has ability to recover our device from soft brick
you can install two ROM and has wonderful ability to swich between them smoothly
i donno about safestrap cause i havent used it !!
supercharger script needs some study about executing scripts on android ....
you might wanna try rdavisct's SCV7 .... its pretty smooth & with suprcharger & battery tweaks

[Q] So I think it is time to root this thing Can someone help out this noob

So I waited for the GB update and I like it but I think it is time to root this phone. I want to stress that I have had this phone since a little bit after it came out about two weeks after and it has run like a champ from day 1. No problems at all so when I updated to gb it was actually a downgrade in some ways like the camera but I definitly like gb because of the text editing but I havent noticed any improvement in battery life or speed or signal or GPS but All thouse things were great before and they are great now.
So I am running GB 2.3.3 withthe july 15 baseband and kernel 2.6.32.9 and I know it is different to root but I dont fully uinderstand it so if someone can post a detailed guide with as much explanation as possible so I understand what I am doing I would greatly appriciate it. I assume you cant get NV flasher from the market (I Havent looked) and what is cwm or cmw and if I flash a new rom will I loose the new baseband? Or can I get root permissions and keep stock GB? Tahnk you for all your help
First read the sticky at the top of the Android Development page. That sticky basically explains everything you will need to know, step by step.
In summary though....
Step 1 - NVFlash (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847)
Step 2 - Download Xboarders Rooted OTA.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748)
Step 3 - Boot into Clockwork Recovery
Step 4 - Install Zip from SD Card - the Zip you downloaded above
Voila you have rooted GB 2.3.3 with new baseband.
An alternative that I would suggest would be Eaglesblood 1.06 GB 2.3.3 though, smoothest ROM on the boards IMO and based on GB 2.3.3

I've tried both Roms and I would have to sway that Xboarder's Tweaked Rom is the best GB update 2.3.3 Rom.

Did not try Xboarders tweaked, maybe I will give it a try.
Does swype work on that rom as phone just took a dump with swype beta. First reboot in over two months just now.

Follow the advice above. I flashed a rom for the first time today.
Does the Netflix app work on xboarder's rom? I'm having issues with HDMI on CM7 going out about every 5 minutes but coming right back. I really need the netflix app for travel.
+1 on xboarders. Runs smooth and has all of the stock features

thanks guys that was what I thought. So it really is that easy? What actually gives it the root? is it the xboarders rom? I am going to ask alot of questions because I want to understand how it actually works so please bear with me. It sounds like it actually got easir to root with this update no? It seems like NVflash is a app or program that lets me put the rom on my sim card should I go internal or external? I have a whole bunch of external cards with diffewrent capacitys and the one i use now is 16 gig. Then clockwork recovery is a program that is already on the dvice I dont know if it is part of android or what but it is alrady there right? It lets me choose wether I want to recover or make a backup of roms or install new ones correct? Then when I put the tweeked rom on it has something in it hat roots the phone magically.
Please let me know what I am right about and what I am not right about and give me the correct answers because I really want to know I am a nosey motherfer

So According to the thread in this forum titles "how to get the new baseband" the rooted version of the new rom does not contain the new baseband. Or is that the leaked gingerbread that came out a few months ago way before the update came out? He is not talking about xboarders rom right? If I do what was suggested here I will in fact have the new baseband and 2.3.3 rooted right?

correct

If you have the new baseband now no roms will change that.
The roms do not include the baseband .

I flash from my external SD Card. You just need to decide where you want to install from, and then make sure you set up NVFlash with the correct support, external or internal.
Not sure of the exact terminology, but I think the procedure itself would be called to NVFlash ClockworkMod. NVFlash is the procedure to install CWM, while CWM is the program that you will run via Volume Down + Power when you boot up. CWM 4.0.0.2 will boot up and from there you will be able to flash roms, backup and restore Nandroids.
Ah that makes sense Now I see CWM stands for Clock work mod. See I was thinking CWM is a rom I actually thought it stood for cyogen mod I just couldnt figure out the W. So when I flash CWM it contains the root permissions already is that how it works?
So I should use nvflash to install cwm then I should probally make a backup of my stock rom. Also If I just install or flash CWM and not flash a new rom then Will my phone be rooted stock? or do I have to flash the xborders rom to gain root?
Thanks alot guys

CWM doesn't "contain" root permissions, it just allows you to flash any ROM into the phone, rooted or otherwise. The Xboarder ROM is pre-rooted, along with most of the others.
THANK YOU!
I too am a noob and was a little confused. I'd search the forums and come up with too much info. Plus, some terms used on this forum are slightly overloaded (in the C++ context) from the classic meanings, like "ROM" and "baseband". Those terms as used here do not mean exactly what they meant 20 years ago.
I'm sure I need to read more on app dev (but I have too many hobbies already), but I'm confused about the layers of s/w. As a noob, I would think the layers would be BIOS or maybe BSP, Linux, Android. So I don't understand:
1) where does the clockwork mod fit within the layers?
1a) nvdia nvflash installs new drivers in the Linux layer?
2) what is contained in the ROM image? A new version of Linux, andriod, nvdia drivers, baseband?
3) Is there a BIOS/BSP, or is all register access done in Linux drivers?
I'm not looking for a developers level answer to these questions, more of the readers digest version of the answers.
Since I'm having black screen of death (I believe referred to here as "SOD"), on two phones, I'd like to understand more, to figure out if this problem is h/w or s/w. I am definitely leaning towards s/w problems and my wife and I would love to keep these phones.
Thanks again.

Continuing off of what Spyvie said, you do need to flash xboarder's rom to gain root, (more like repeating what he said). As for nvflash, this should make things a bit easier. tgagunman made a nice one click feature that if you follow the directions, should be easier to follow. You will get clockwork mod recovery, it will be nvflashed, but it's a lot easier for a non-techie to use.

I want to thank everyone who chimed in you guys have been really good to me Bob has some really good questions also and I hope this thread can help you out bob. That is why I started this thread for people like me who are really good with computers and like to mess around but don't quite understand phones. Every time something goes wrong with my PC I go to the forums and I fix it myself then I feel good. (And I have had some real disasters on my PC I have come back from)
Anyway I will be doing this procedure soon as I feel confident that I can do it and I see there is a fix for unbricking phones. One last question before I hit the green light: Can it be unrooted just in case I have to send it back for warantey issues and can CWM be uninstalled? I suspect that since the ROM is pre-rooted that all I would have to do is format and install my original ROM then uninstall CWM is that on point or no? And Again THANKS TO ALL WHO CHIME IN WITH THE ANSWERS AND I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE OTHERS TO CHIME IN WITH THERE QUESTIONS.

Okay so I checked out the links. So I gather that step 1 has to be skipped now because super1click does not work. So we can just NVflash CWM which looks easy enough. Now I have winzip on my computer will that work for extracting .rar files? I am pretty sure it will but I want to make sure. And I am going to shut off user control permissions and I use MS security essentials for my Anti virus so I am thinking of shutting that off for this procedure would that be a wise thing and is there anything else that I should do. I am not a computer expert but I am not a idiot either I am just inexperienced. Thank you guys

You can restore you Nandroid of the preroot OTA, or you can unroot with the unroot zip that Xboarder provided in his link.

no, there is nothing else you need to do to your computer. The link provided by the brother above (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847) is where you need to be. Skip the one click root and go straight to NV flash. It will guide you through installing the nvidia drivers you need. TGA_Gunnman has is laid out really nice and easy to follow and the program he put together (one click clm recovery nv flasher) is really simple to understand and use. he also has another post out there (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060715) that is also helpfull. Once you get nv flash done make sure you copy the rom you want on your sd card. IMO Xboarders is very nice and smooth. You will hold down volume down and power together until you see the android screen. Then in the menu use vol keys to move to backup and restore and use power to select. Then move to yes and run the backup. then you can wipe data/factory restore. Then wipe cache. Then go to advanced and wipe dalvic and batt stats. Then go back to "choose zip from sd" and find your rom zip and select it. It will run for a while and tell you when its done, Then go to advanced again and fix permission. After that just go to reboot option and let it reboot. It may take a little longer the first time, just let it go. When it reboots you will have a rooted 2.3.3 with the new baseband you just updated to. After that go to the market and get Titanium Backup and run a backup of all your apps and data. From there your pretty much good to start flashing away. Have fun, Good luck

[Q] Rooting + ROM Questions!

Ok, so I'd say I'm a newbie with this rooting and ROM installing stuff, I've never rooted before.
I just got an HTC sensation 2 weeks ago, and my friend has a rooted Samsung Vibrant with a ROM on it, I forget what it's called. But she said now her phone can get apps only rooted phones can get, like one that makes your phone go faster or slower called ummmm, SetCpu. She said there are probably cool ROMs for my Sensation so I really want to root and get a ROM! So I has questions for youzzz
1. How do I get my phone rooted?
2. On a scale of 1-10, how hard will it be for me to root it having no experience.
3. How do I get a ROM.
4. What is a super cool recommended ROM?
Thanks everyone who helps me ahead of time

IMO, rooting is really easy. Just follow the steps closely so you don't mess it up and brick your phone .
You can find the ROMs at the development section. I'm using Leedroid and Faux123 Kernel and find that its really smooth and you don't really need to use overclocking apps all the time. Sometimes its not recommended and it may cause problems with the kernel. Hope i helped you to get started!

4. I'm using Android Revolution HD & It's been working perfectly for me. Here's a link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
do'nt forget to read the directoins in that site, i didn't at first and was getting frustrated because there is a link to drives that u need to install in the read directoins site and i didn't know and i was literraly going insane because it couldn't read my phone lol
I am coming from a rooted vibrant but having trouble with rooting my sensation.
In using "How To get your Hboot Version - 3 methods below" I do not get "Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* Applications -> Development.
It appears that my PC is not recognizing my phone. I have loaded revolutionary.io on my computer. I have extracted the files to a folder. When I run the revolutionary utility, I get a quick flash of a black screen (prompt screen) and then goes back to my revolutionary file folder.
I know I must be overlooking some part of the - How to get your Boot Version.
Nvmd: I was finally able to get the S-Off. I continued to try the same thing over and over (about 9-10 times) and I finally added some portion of the puzzle that I had been overlooking. Nice feeling of accomplishment.

[Q] Rooted my infuse for the first time! Now what?

After a major battle with my Windoze 7 PC I finally got SuperOneClick to connect to my phone and successfully rooted it!
I had to uninstall/reinstall drivers, reboot, toggle in and out of debug mode; anyway, its done.
Now I would like to start flashing ROM's. I was just wondering (since I'm new to all this) is there anything that I should pay specific attention to when flashing new ROM's to my phone? I have already done a few backups with Titanium Backup and I have downloaded ROM Manager.
My phone is currently running the factory image. If I were to upgrade to a ROM that uses Gingerbread do I need to download and install the kernel seperately or is it usually included in the ROM?
I would really like an ICS based ROM. I have seen a few mentioned but I think they are just themed and not actual ICS based ROM's. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have also downloaded GTGUnbrick but I havent really looked at that yet.
Thanks in advance for any advice/help.
Next thing is to install modified 3e recovery and CWM. This video explains how:
youtube.com/watch?v=Y09p-J_g_Rg
For the gingerbread thing, the devs are doing a great job explaining how to flash the rom; installing or not installing a kernel, wiping or not wiping etc. All you have to do is get familiar with CWM and read the devs' posts completely before doing anything.
Awesome, thank you for your help!
Biggest thing you can pay attention to is instructions in the first post of any rom thread. Do that and most everything will be laid out in front of you. There's not a whole lot to really worry about when you're flashing stuff, so long as you follow the directions given. And even then, it's pretty hard to completely brick this phone.
But yeah, modded recovery is the next step. And welcome to the newly found beast you once called your 'infuse'.

Ok so this is more of a rant than anything. This fumblin phucking phone is constantly rebooting on me, shutting programs while i am using them, freezing. BATTERY dies quick, phone gets hot when in use....
The only thing I have done to it was rooted it, using that one click program, very easy process (couple months ago.)
What can I do???, has any of you did something? This phone is stock. I used to have a Galaxy S CRAPtivate and I was a flashaholic (btw that phone was sh*t compared to this one even with the freezing) but I see MOTO wont unlock the phone so i was wondering does that mean I can't change roms like I did on my old phone? I also would like to know what bootload means because i have that installed too and dont know what that is? I am sorry for being a noob! and yes i did read the N00b section lol
Where did you find the bootload that you installed, I'd like to check that out. As far as the rebooting, have you tried a factory reset? And what size / class sdcard are you running?

-First, let's just calm down a little bit...
-Now, let's make sure you actually have an Atrix 2, not an Atrix 4G. What does Settings -> About Phone -> Model Number say?
-You installed "bootload?" I assume you mean "bootloader?" Where is the guide you followed to do this?
-Yes you can change ROMs with a locked bootloader, but you can't directly change modify the kernel. So it's hard to build any ROMs aside from derivative stuff (based off of stock Moto ROMs)
-What size/class microSD card do you use?
-Have you installed any apps/changed ANYTHING on your phone recently? Are you on GB 2.3.6 or 2.3.5?
If there is one thing I've learned since I'm back to stock waiting for the soak test to actually start is that stock sucks big time both in terms of battery life and overall stability (I've had a lot of stability issues with a lot of apps, even the stock music app(!) that I haven't experiemced in custom Roms)
I highly recommend installing a custom ROM. I've made pretty good experiences with ROMULUS (pretty much fantastic ROM) and Lithium.

The Atrix 2 Bootstrap .apk is the door opener to allow the flashing of CWM Custom Recovery on boot. You have to install the Bootstrap .apk, run it by clicking the first button, then the second. It will reboot your phone into recovery, where you can flash the CWM on boot Recovery found (use the ON BOOT WITH QORKING GPS on found in the forum here). If you're wanting to flash a custom rom, you will have to have these measures in place first, as this is the only way to install any rom. Please note that some roms are flashable .zips, and others are CWM backup images. Be sure you know what you are doing for each rom that you attempt to install. All of the necessary instructions will be listed in each thread for each of the roms available...
From the n00b's guide:
CWM is a custom recovery program that allows you to backup / restore a full or partial system backup of your device. It also allows you to install flashable .zip files; which is one of the primary installation methods for custom ROMs. It also provides other neat features such as cache wiping, battery reset, and other processes. Long story short, if you are thinking about flashing custom ROMs or just want a really good backup program, incase you FUBAR your device, you need to install this.
For Atrix 2 Bootstrap:
1. Install the RazrBootstrap.apk
2. Select "Bootstrap Recovery"
3. Superuser will prompt for permissions
4. Select "Reboot Recovery"
When the phone reboots it will boot up into Clockworkmod Recovery.
Again, to get the CWM ON BOOT WITH WORKING GPS look for it in this forum. Sorry, I'm being lazy and don't want to search for it myself...

[Q] *[ROM] CyanogenMod 10 for Allwinner a13 [08/28/13]

Hello.
I wouldn't say I'm a noob, but maybe I am. Lol
I got a Hipstreet Aurora, HS-7DTB6-8GB, last year. Wasn't it's biggest fan, so I didn't use it. I recently got a Samsung Tab 3 7.0, of which I've rooted and flashed cwm recovery on it. I haven't flashed a rom on it yet, kinda waitin for CM to release for it.
Anyways, I decided to give my kid the Hipstreet. Then did some research on it and realized that I can root it and flash recovery on it as well.
So I rooted with Tasslehoff's rooting tool and flashed CWM recovery 6.0.2.8. Now I would like to install CM10 as found in original thread,
"http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343531"
Here's my question, and maybe here is the noob in me, I don't fully understand the specs laid out in the thread and what will work and what won't.
Can I install CM10 through the recovery in the state I have the tablet right now? Or is there things I have to be careful of. I don't feel like bricking it and going through those motions again.
At this point, can I just:
wipe/factory reset
wipe cache partition
*not sure if the delvic needs to be wiped*
install CM10 from sd
install google apps
install patch
reboot
and it's good?
Or am I going to have complications if I run it like that?
PLEASE HELP

Its running the same really. Even with the performance cranked up to 1008 CPU. It has a lot of lag and is finicky. In a nutshell... I bought my daughter a tab 3, lol. Now the all winner is my experiment tablet. But if all you have is an all winner, then I would suggest converting it as it gives you more freedom with the system itself. Like getting rid of garbage apps and such...
