Software Update Check Fails

Going to settings > about phone > software update > software update check results in an error every time - failed connection. Anyone else experience this?

I'm getthing this as well, the other day I was getting an authentication error instead. I've been checking a few times a day just for giggles to see if there's any updates. Perhaps this "connection failed" is an indicator something is about to happen?

I've gotten both of those errors ever since the phone was released. I wouldn't read into it too much.

It looks like according to LG website you need to download the phone software and connect your phone to a PC\MAC and check\install software updates that way.

I get the same thing.
Does it have anything to do with being rooted?

Everyone gets this error. It simply means that no update is available.

lol just kidding but for real.... there is like 4 different threads about the update errors... im sure you will read a release before you check your phone for a update..... and if you constantly checking for updates on your phone through the update button thing then please tell me your not the ones complaining about battery life.....................................................

Can't add Motoblur Account Setup Failes

Hey guys I had something wrong with my phone that it wouldnt go past dual core screen. I was rooted. So I factory reset the phone because it was pretty much my only option. Since then I can not connect to the server for Motorola account. I tried running factory reset 5 times. I really want to resolve this issue I can't even put pictures straight to Facebook from my gallery because of this.
My phone is 2.3.6 stock and according to root check I am no longer rooted.

Did you have the Cheesecake apk installed and running prior to your factory reset? If so, you may have a Motorola server that's not the default 'official' one for connecting your Moto account still set.

Ah well I guess I gotta reinstall root too idk why it went away after factory reset. Cheesecake won't let me do anything. Thanks for the help guys I'll reply if I got it to work again.

Yeah, sadly a factory reset will delete any user-installed apks, including the Cheesecake application. But, if this is what you've done, there should be no reason to have the Cheesecake apk installed because you've 'reset' the phone to 'factory' and all the phone's settings are 'factory', along with the Moto server for your account - unless, of course, you want to keep checking Cheesecake for any more leaks. However, the last one found for us AT&T users has several of us soft bricked, including myself. But, there's nothing stopping you from trying to catch another leak (if any) and pass it along to the development team if you happen upon one...

OK so I'm confused my phone is factory again yet my server isn't? I never planned to do ics leak, I'm waiting for OTA which is why I wanna reset my server too. Will rerooting and then using cheesecake to reset my server fix my issue? Sorry for all the trouble I'm not using cheesecake again lol.
Oh and I just checked my installed apps and superuser is still here but root checker says no root.

I got it resolved I installed root updated my server from cheesecake and unrooted I know can check for updates and all. I hope I helped somepeople out from this post.

Software update?

Lo and beware, I got a notice about an update this morning before 6.10. I'm up to date on GB, so what's up? Naturally the connection to the server always fails when I do the check. . . .

UPDATE: checked the LG support tool at 10.40 which says no update needed. Nevertheless, I still get the exclamation point in the status bar and "you can check a new software" although (as happened with GB) it is impossible to connect to the LG server with the phone.

after reading this i tried checking software update and after clicking on it i had the notification saying "you can check a new software" but when i go to software update it says connection failed. I'm rooted just to let ppl know...

You're not the only only. Last night I just was bored and did the same thing. I checked for an update and a notification came up saying you can check for new software. After its done searching it says connection failed.

Same here. Rooted stock 2.3.4.

My phone has been saying connection failed since just before the last update. I had to use the LG Tool last time. But as for now, I haven't gotten any notices, and the LG Tool says i'm up to date. Who knows, maybe by the end of the day, there will be something........HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Got up this morning, there was a notification of new update available, installed it! Hola! Official Jelly bean with butter!
Then I really woke up to know it was a dream!

This makes me want to flash a stock rooted Rom just to see the message despite what you guys have said about not being able to download it

Well for one it seems that some animations have been tweaked slightly and phones feels a bit snappier, but it appears to have undisabled alot of the apps i disabled cause i could not uninstall them. also the build appears to be from September 27.

* Google applications such as Gmail, Maps, Play Books, etc., may be updated to the newer versions.
* Fixes a problem that impairs users from being able to download the following pre-loaded AT&T applications: Kindle, AT&T Code Scanner, AT&T FamilyMap, AT&T Locker, AT&T Smart Wi-Fi, U-verse Live TV, myAT&T, and Messages.
o Currently when customers launch one of these applications they are connected to the Google Play storefront, but they are not given the option to download the application.

There should be tons of posts in all the previous update threads explaining how to dump it. Just gotta find em. I don't know off-hand but I'm sure many others do.

Upon reboot mine goes to a recovery screen. When I select "reboot" it boots up and informs me that the update has failed. I am rooted and have a custom recovery manager.

If the same rules apply for a successfuly OTA update, (1) you must be on ICS stock ROM, and (2) stock recovery; (3) no apps frozen or debloated to get the update

Tried to reboot, and booted into ClockworkMod. Can't update. Fix?

Google search not working after update, help

As the title states my Google search is no longer working after the new update. The only way I can get it to work it to clear cache, data, and uninstall updates which will then revert the app to factory form. After doing all that the app works no issues but then the app updates itself and then i keep getting same error message every time I try to load it.. Anyone else have this issue? Running P6800 with JB 4.1.2. Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue. I read there are issues on some nexus devices. I think just wait for Google to release a fix.

Same here. Reverted to the previous version and waiting for the update with correction (hopefully),

I just did a phone reset hoping it would solve the issuebut nothing. Google just released a new update and still same problem.

Indeed, the release of 11/21 is no good either.

I have been looking all over the net and can't seem to find any info on this, Google hasn't even acknowledged there is something wrong. Maybe this is only affecting a very small number number of people.

Both Google Now / Search and Newsstand have been crashing on launch with the stock ROM. But on my other JB devices no such problem. I tried rooting this tablet. No change. Then I flashed the unofficial Cyanogenmod 10.1. That solved the problem.
My assumption: the Samsung stock ROM is the source of the problem.
What did I learn?
- My tablet is running smoother without all the Samsung crap. I should have done it even sooner!
- I will probably gravitate in the future to Nexus devices where the OS is not compromised by vendor-motivated overhead. And it's easier to get updates and custom ROMs.
- Because Samsung has not been fully cooperative with the developer community, ROMs often lack certain device drivers. (Another advantage for Nexus.)
If this motivates you to root and flash just be aware of two known deficiencies with the ROM I am using:
-no tethering
-once you turn off wifi you'll have to reboot to turn it on again.
(Thanks, Samsung for withholding wifi device drivers from the public.)

We shouldn't have to install custom roms in order for an app to work. I have tried to report the issue to Google but I have yet to receive feedback. I have flashed many roms and many of my Android devices but I longer wish to do so since no one rom is fully functional as it should, there will always be issues. I too may consider a Nexus device, but at the same time I have always liked Samsung and their products but this one issue with this app is a little annoying.

What I don't understand is that my wife's Note I I was able to update with no issues, her phone is running JB 4.1.2. I'm no tech or anything but I believe it may have something to with our tab itself.

After flashing the JB 4.1.2 Indonesian firmware, my Google search has stopped working. No matter what I do it always crashes.
I don't have option to uninstall updates from app manager. Does any of u guys have an older version of Google search? Would be really glad if u can post it for me.

Whether Samsung or Google, the android environment can come across as chaotic. So much going on with all various versions.
Samsung keep selling us pretty much the same devices with new software, I'm not particularly impressed their pace of improvements.
Google products seems to work well on Apple ios, android is still missing functions available Apple for a good while now, funny how that works.

It is the apk file, should be about 14.4 MB. Try to download again and let me know if any problems.

Oops. Too bad, that is the oldest one I have, and it works fine in my case.

I know I'm not the only one with this issue, anybody have an any ideas as to why Google search no longer works, even after new updates. On My wife's Note II she gets all the updates with no issue, she is also running 4.1.2. This is really pissing me off.

I hv the same problem after update to official Singapore ROM.
Cannot wait for a respectable tab with phone function so I can ditch Samsung forever.
