Samsung Wave Custom - internet installation - General Questions and Answers

I have a samsung wave custom edition from Europe.
My new plan is the family mobile, at Walmart with unlimited internet access.
I am trying to get the appropriate software to be able to access the internet.
Please help me or ask for further information to be able to get this going.
thank you

Can you access the internet through WiFi? Can you make phone calls & SMS? If yes & yes, it could be just your APN settings.

Cyanogen on NZ Vodafone HTC Magic?

Has anyone tried the Cyanogen mods on the HTC Magic from Vodafone in New Zealand? The caveats say this code is for the US only. I don't want to brick my phone, but at the same time, I'm growing a wee bit tired of the Android market not allowing any access at all to paid apps for people in New Zealand. I'd also very much like to have a Wi-Fi AP on my HTC Magic / Androind phone....partly to let my Apple iPod access the Internet through it. Best of both worlds!
Anyone?
Current using it on my NZ Vodafone HTC Magic I bought a month ago no problem. I used the one-click root app about a week ago and working fine. Using market enabler, Google it, to allow me to gain access to paid apps. Only problem was I had to set the APN for Vodafone to gain internet access.
I would really recommended the change as the my phone is working so much better now. The vodafone ROM must be very clunky it would occasionally lag when playing music and using the phone.
However in the unlikely event of bricking your phone don't blame me.
APN Guide:
1) Navigate to: Settings > Wireless > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
2) I deleted the one that was there by default as it wasn't working for me. Don't remember its name but the address was something like *.vodafone.com.
3) Press the menu key and click "New APN".
4) Enter the following settings:
Name: Vodafone NZ Net (Doesn't have to be this. Can be anything you want really.)
APN: www.vonafone.net.nz
5) Leave all the other fields blank.
6) Press the menu key and Save.
7) Done you should now have 3g/Internet access.
Hope this has been some help. Fell free to ask any questions you have.
Thanks for the reply. One more question....
OK...so it works. That was my main concern.
Now I guess I'll do the research and work out how to back up what I have so I can restore it if I want to.....or need to.
Total n00b question:
I did this when I first got my phone, however I am cooking my own rom based around 1.6 for NZ Users:
Is it possible for somebody to fetch me a Nandroid Backup of the NZ VF Rom? It will be extremely awesome if you could! Just flick me a PM, Thanks!

[Q] Mobile Access Point?

My previous phone was a Captivate. I know by flashing Paragon you can use the phone as a Mobile Access Point. By doing this I basically made the phone a mobile wifi hub.
Is that a possibility with the Skyrocket?
Is there any way I can implement that now?

You can do it easily with the Stock ROM, Root, and Titanium Backup. All you have to do is "freeze" the Tethering Manager apk and then you can use the Wifi Sharing which is directly built into Gingerbread. Be careful of your carrier's snooping.
assuming you have at&t, you can use various apps to use the phone as WiFi hotspot. Be careful at&t is catching up with many apps and are billing there customers with tethering fee. Alternatively you're phone already has tethering built in. When using a custom ROM like CM7 tethering is hidden from your carrier.
I dont understand why AT&T feels it necessary to retard their phones just to milk their customers.
I understand they are greedy money-hoarding automatons, but really? If you're going to provide a phone service, provide service for the entire capability of the phone don't stop half way. I'd anticipate an official response like Dear Customer, It requires money to run these services. We want paychecks. Fork it over.
I'd love to poke holes in that perspective but truth is that it won't get me anywhere at this point in time.
Anyway - thanks for the heads up.

1. Root your phone (guides available if you search)
2. Install Titanium Backup (available in the market)
3. Freeze Tethering Manager (tap on app, and select Freeze)
It really is that simple.

I'm pretty sure AT&T can and does detect tethering/hotspot usage regardless of which ROM you flashed. Not sure the mechanism they use, but it might be their servers pinging your device and seeing TTLs that are greater than 1, or some other packet inspection.
The root/freeze app method works fine, but it won't prevent carrier detection. Cyanogen's Koushik has an alpha app out that purportedly evades detection, but you have to use it in conjunction with a laptop. So, no standalone hotspot with that one.
I said to hell with it and just froze the tethering manager. My plan is on a business account anyway so AT&T can bite me.

You could. That does seem like a great way to chew through your data plan limits in a hurry, though.
I have an unlimited plan. But really just for setup. I got my dada a new TV and it needs a firmware update but it can only get one thru a wifi connection and my dad does not have internet.

[Q] Samsung Focus Setup and tethering

I would be classified as a "noOb" with WP7... I want to buy a samsung focus for use on Straight Talk (it's AT&T service) and I need to know if I can edit APN settings and the like. I already know MMS won't work, and that's fine. My main concern is tethering.... I want to be sure I can tether my phone to my tablet... how does one do this with WP7?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

[Q] Photon Q Wifi LEAP question

Hi, newbie here.
i have been reading for a while on this forum, i was using Nokia E7 for my work purposes, and interested to know if photon Q can replace it. i like QWERTY device anyway. as photon Q looks attractive for me so finally I got one.
i am interesting if i can connect photon Q to 802.1x with LEAP.
i try to play with stock wifi setting, no LEAP option there, i try to play with LEAP Wifi free (can be downloaded in google play), Wifi advanced configuration editor, wifi connection manager, try all possible setting but still can't connect to my company network.
other status :
SW version 77.8.14
android version 4.0.4
build number = 7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14
i was wondering if i need to root/unlock bootloader to have LEAP connected (so i can edit something/files).
any idea or any help? thank you !

thanks, but i have tried that and not working.
I assume a lot of university & company still using Cisco LEAP Authentication.
once we find a way, photon q can be the perfect phone for businessman & student.
I use "LEAP WiFi Free" from the market (Play Store) and it works perfect with LEAP authentication at my workplace.

[HELP] My mobile is hacked, Someone is remotely accessing my mobile.

Dear All,
I use Samsung Galaxy A8 SM-A800F with marshmallow 6.0.1 (Official).
My mobile is hacked. Someone is remotely accessing my mobile and making changes as per his will, hacker is able to access my device without mobile data/internet enabled.
I have observed following things -
- Hacker can track my keystrocks/screen touch
- He can access my whatsapp messages
- He is able to reply to my whatapp messages
- He is able to make folders in my mobile
- He is able to restart mobile
- He is able to enable/diable mobile data
- He can access my sms and can send me customized sms.
- He is able to do all above things without mobile data enabled
I am not sure whats going on with my mobile, is this some king of virus/malware which is allowing hacker to control my device ?
I have tried installing various antivirus.
I have tried factory reset / installing official firmware using odin but still hacker is able to control my device remotely.
Kindly advice me on how to fix this problem.
Best Regards,
Romob
Please advise

have you tried a full wipe and installing a.cistom rom?
"err on the side of kindness"
it's too dangerous. List some apps and source you got apps from ( if you remember all of them)
Have you let somebody tease your phone?
This is not funny but funny as I'm dealing with the same thing, I believe it comes down to WiFi hack, or through tags or nfc or whatever I've done the same thing resetting, rooting, removing some files ex, I've revoked, froze ect.... not sure what do to my self. It have noticed when I hard reset and it unmounts a file. Still learning code so not tip top on what it says. If I can get maybe a list of exploits it would at least give me a place to start. I'm on an s7 Sept patch bone stock apps I have Google chrome, messages, phone, contacts.
You could write a book on what you possible need to do, depending on how your system was compromised.
As you can see them replying to your messages I'd bet it's one of your mates that has done something! Having access to your phone would make hacking it easier eg start with a remote control apps and then gain more access later.
I'm no expert but I think you did the right thing reinstalling your rom, but if it's coming back then they must be able to reinstall malware as they have your wifi password, network password, or it's on your sd card or a bad app that you have reinstalled and can gain root or something.
You need to change ALL your passwords that may enable access to your network or phone, incl work etc. ALSO update/reinstall or factory reset any modem/router/network firmware/pc you can as they may have opened some backdoor. But only have one thing on at a time as you fix it, else one might just compromise your network again. Make sure things like tv, printers etc have secure wifi settings (change ALL default passwords to your own strong ones)
Once all have been restored/factory reset with new passwords then you can turn them on again. (I would leave sd cards out and don't install all your apps yet, add them one at a time and only from Play store) also change passwords for all apps as they may still be able to gain access to them & check things like two factor authentication is set to use phone numbers you have set, not theirs.
I have to go now, though there are more possibilities, I've probably missed some things too, but hope I have given you some ideas. Good luck
