Hi, newbie here.
i have been reading for a while on this forum, i was using Nokia E7 for my work purposes, and interested to know if photon Q can replace it. i like QWERTY device anyway. as photon Q looks attractive for me so finally I got one.
i am interesting if i can connect photon Q to 802.1x with LEAP.
i try to play with stock wifi setting, no LEAP option there, i try to play with LEAP Wifi free (can be downloaded in google play), Wifi advanced configuration editor, wifi connection manager, try all possible setting but still can't connect to my company network.
other status :
SW version 77.8.14
android version 4.0.4
build number = 7.7.1Q-6_SPR-125_ASA-14
i was wondering if i need to root/unlock bootloader to have LEAP connected (so i can edit something/files).
any idea or any help? thank you !
Never used this type of wifi, but maybe this post will help?

thanks, but i have tried that and not working.
I assume a lot of university & company still using Cisco LEAP Authentication.
once we find a way, photon q can be the perfect phone for businessman & student.
I use "LEAP WiFi Free" from the market (Play Store) and it works perfect with LEAP authentication at my workplace.

Hey guys,
I just got my Xperia X10 to work in our university wifi. WPA-EAP PEAP with MSCHAPV2. I used the app Wifi-Config Editor Pro from the market. You don't even need to root your phone. I hope this works on everyone else also. I was so thankful with the developer. This app saved my phone.
is this wifi-config?
Cant find the exact name you mention anywhere.
links please?
I did a search in the android market "wifi config". After that first two results would be wifi config and wifi config editor pro. The free version doesn't have the enterprise configuration. The pro does.
I would love to try this out, but the app is obviously not yet certified for the latest firmware release...
Even with this link (hxxp://bubiloop.com/android-tools-wifi-config-editor-pro), there are no results in the market.
If, like me (X10 mini pro, UK unlocked latest firmware) wifi config pro isn't showing for you in the market you can do the following:
1) Root the phone following the instructions here:
http://android.doshaska.net/x10miniroot
(this works for me on my X10 mini pro)
With the phone connected and usb debugging on/wifi toggled off, from the androidSDK on a PC (Windows,Linux,Mac) get a shell
2) adb shell
3) su
4) cd /data/misc/wifi
5) busybox vi wpa_supplicant.conf
(to edit the wpa configuration file)
6) add this at the end
network={
ssid="eduroam"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
identity="MYIDENTITY"
password="SECRET"
phase1="peapver=0"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
priority=7
}
or similar, where MYIDENTITY is your eduroam login ID and SECRET is your password. This is taken verbatim from another phone (HTC Desire, Android 2.2) which does work OK
7) save
8) log out
Then connect and surf...
Cosmodia - I don't know why you can't see it in the market. You have Android 1.6 right? At first I cannot see it also since the app was only for Android 2.0 but the developer made it to work with Android 1.6 so now I can see it and got it to work. You can contact the developer and ask questions.
Professordes - I think this should help people who didn't want or don't know how to root their phone
Android 2.x Enterprise settings coming soon
Android WiFi Internal API's changed between version 1.5/1.6/2.x Android 1.6 added a lot of the requirements to enable an enterprise WiFi network, however the published API and UI's don't make it easy to connect to them. They then changed them in 2.0 making virtually all Enterprise configurations valid. Unfortunately the UI still lacks in the ability to configure them. I needed my android device on the WiFi network at work so I wrote an app do to just that.
As of about a week ago I had everything all versions without the enterprise settings working. This is the "WiFi Config Editor" you can find on the market now. I was in the process of enabling the editing of the enterprise settings for Android 2.0+ when I was contacted about getting an X10 on a WPA-EAP network with PEAP authorization. Being the X10 is a 1.6 device I made the changes necessary and released the 1.6 version of "WiFi Config Editor Pro". This version will only work with Android 1.6 as the Enterprise API's are different.
Currently I'm testing the "WiFi Config Editor Pro" for Android 2.0+ and should have it released in the next few days. As I hinted at earlier, the enterprise settings are hidden in Internal API's. This makes developing against them difficult. Google actually places a number of roadblocks in the way to make this harder. But being that Android is open source, it just takes a little bit of persistence to make it all work. Best part of all. NO ROOT REQUIRED!
To my knowledge this is the only app that exists that will allow you to edit WiFi settings at this level without requiring root access. I'm open to suggestions to help make it better. Let me know if anyone has any issues with the app or connecting to specific configurations.
Thanks,
--OddRain
Hello OddRain,
this sounds very promising and I am looking forward to trying it out as soon as the latest firmware release for the X10 gets full Market access again.
Hi Oddrain,
I can't find any other way to contact you.
I am desperately looking to connect to my companies WPA2 enterprise network, with Peap. It also uses a certificate.
I cannot however purchase pro as I am in South Africa and we can only get free apps on the market.
Can you please advise when the android 2.1+ version is available, if it will work for what i need and how I can pay.
Florbid
I still can't seem to find the Wifi Config Editor (neither the free nor the pro version) in the Market, everything else appears to be there.
Is the application limited to some region, firmware or branding?
I'm trying to access the Market from Germany, my X10 is on R2BA026, unbranded phone.
I'm not sure why the app doesnt show up in the market sometimes. The free version supports Android 1.5 and up. There are 2 pro versions, one for Android 1.6 and one for Android 2.0+. All versions should be in the market right now. There are no limits within the application other than the Android Versions supported.
The most reliable way I know of searching the app store is not by the application name, but by the developer name. pub:OddRain would be the Android Market search string, it is Case Sensitive.
--OddRain
Thank you very much for the reply. Unfortunately, I don't get any result with that search term as well.
Could somebody else with the same firmware version please search for this to see if it maybe depends on that?
can wifi config editor (free version) solve the issue of the campus wifi (WPA/WPA2-EAP PEAP with MSCHAPV2) ?
Thanks!
can you just extract the .apk and post it here please and make it easier for all?
So I've purchased a Huawei S7 and it's 99% perfect. The 1% is the lack of the VPN support. There is no VPN support in this build that I can find. I used Wifi Buddy, but I believe that just uses the same backend files as the normal Android builds.
I have a rooted Droid 2 with ClockWorkRecovery and Titanium Backup. Is there a way I can pull the files off of that and incorporate them in to the S7?
When I use the Wifi buddy, it will not connect, just says it had an error while connecting to the server. I ran a form of TCPDump on the router and it's not even attempting a connection. When I use my D2 on the same wifi, behind the same routers/firewall, it connects fine.
I've searched high and low but I'm not finding an app that will do the VPN that my router supports or it has the same issues as the Wifi buddy. It has to be PPTP or L2TP. OpenVPN is not a viable option.
Any opinions, suggestions, hacks, etc? The S7 is rooted as well.
I use a free app called "NeoRouter VPN Free Edition" from the marketplace on my S7, it requires that you run a client app on a PC or server on your network, which you can download from their website, and port forward from your router to that app, once you have done that it is GREAT and free, I use it to remote desktop over and it works perfectly.
Hope that helps
I guess I'll have to do that if all other options don't exist. I'm pretty sure it can be done. I'm hoping it's as simple as getting the FM Radio ported from the Droid X to the Droid 2. If that can be done, I'm sure the VPN matter can be resolved....I'm hoping.
I just went through my Titanium Backup app on my Droid 2 and found 'VPN Services 2.2' listed as something I can backup/restore. I really wish there was a functioning and stable recovery for this thing so I could throw that on, backup the system, boot, 'restore' these services and see if they work. Granted I'd be going from (for all intensive purposes) VPN Services and applying them to Android 2.1, but it's worth a shot I suppose. I just don't want to FUBAR the device without a way to revert.
Original post started in not very good style and I decided to change it to be as usefull information.

Is there any point to install and play with cyanogenmod 9 if I'm noob?
I have HTC DESIRE S
I have rooted flashed so far by cgm 7.2 and I don't have problem really.
I know how to use google.
That's why I don't post questions about my device and set up, they are answers sooner, than my question arise. Google and forums are working well for me.
Is there any good to use semifunctional device for benefitial purposes? For example cgm9 for saga, the last nightly build, wifi is not working. If I'm noob?
How to report? Does it help really? It's not about complaining... I'm happy with stable releases and google. I'm not looking for learning coding. I "use" and if bug I do google search... Seems like cgm9 where functionality changes from build to build, there is no point to complain... of course... So does help to say if something doesn't work and where to do it? is there place to do that?
Do I have to make 9 other questions like this to tell that cyanogenmod 9 last nightly build for desire s has nonfunctional wifi? To be able to report it in developers threads? Is that helpful information? Can be noob helpful?
EDIT: wifi is not malfunctional, the etntire trouble is ICS android not being supported for connecting to ad-hoc acces points(hotspots). Infrastructure mode apparently available for set up under windows 7 (not xp) should let you use your computer as hotspot for ICS androids

I don't have this device, but if it doesn't work, CM knows about it. Are you sure it doesn't require a different kernel for wifi to work? Did you read the entire thread? I know sometimes in forums it says not to ask about certain things... Nightlies aren't a finished product. They are tests builds. Some better than others... I myself LOVE CM9 Nightlies!! If it's not what you want, just flash another rom.

For those of you who may have tried to connect your recently updated ICS Transformer Prime to your cell phone using the wifi tether app, you may have noticed that your tablet would not pick of the signal from your phone. We are running an ATT Samsung Galaxy SII here and had wifi tether 3.1 beta 6 installed from a few months back. Before upgrading to ICS on our Prime, we had successfully tethered Honeycomb 3.2.1 to the phone without a problem at all. After the upgrade to ICS we wanted to test some of the wireless connectivity issues and decided to tether to our phone once again to get Speedtest results and noticed that we couldn’t see the phone’s hotspot.
In launching the trusty wifi analyzer app, we noticed that the tablet was “seeing” the hotspot in the wifi analyzer app, however, there was a little red designation at the end of the hotspot information denoting “ad hoc” and we were not able to connect or even given the option to connect to the hotspot. In doing some reading on this and finding that in other forums there were many other users saying that after upgrading to ICS they were no longer able to connect to their hotspot, we assumed this was definitely something with ICS. Officially, Google does not support ad hoc networks in ICS apparently.
However, the upside to all of this is that if you upgrade your wifi tether app to the latest and greatest, which in our case was 3.1 beta 11, we were able to select the option in the wifi profile to be the infrastructure mode as opposed to ad hoc mode for our Samsung Galaxy SII. After performing the update, and changing the profile to infrastructure, we were once again able to connect our ICS Prime to the wifi tether app.
It is yet to be seen if this is functionality Google is simply not support from this point forward or if this is just an early ICS quirk that will be resolved with a later update.
maby this is the issue
Finnaly this can be solved by having windows vista in infrastructure mode... Windows xp haven't been build to provide such stacks.
Since the mod is the same as the Xfinity Steram App, I also modded this app.
Removed HDMI Check and Root Check. I also tried to make the app think that it's on Wifi or High Speed Mobile Network. This might or might not work. I'm trying this because this app seems to have low bitrate for the streams and it looked like when it drops to low quality it does not seem to recover. I'm not sure what causes this; but I was actually connected to Ethernet on my Shield Android TV Box and I have good bandwidth.
I only tested it on my Shield Android TV Box. Also note that it might not work on the Leanback Launcher and if it does You will need an Air Mouse. I have my Shield with a custom ROM that runs the full Android ROM and it works fine for me.

Can you explain how you removed the HDMI Check in the apk? I would like to remove it from Bell Fibe Tv app.
Thanks

That's a hard app to mod, the same with Virgin TV Anywhere. I modded an old version of Bell Fibe TV months ago and it was working fine but then it made me upgrade. I tried last week to mod it again and I gave up. I could not get the HDMI check removed after many hours trying.
It does work on my Laptop running Remix OS and using VGA to connect to my TV though. However on my Shield over HDMI it doesn't.
Could you provide the apk for the one you had working?

Don't have it anymore but it would not work anyways because the app won't start, it needs the new version
Maybe give this a try if you are using Android M or lower

Anyone been able to test watching through VPN on the Cox app successfully?
I have an openvpn setup on my router and I am able to VPN from outside my home network on my laptop and watch all channels as if I was on my home wifi. However, when I try to VPN from my phone and watch through the Cox app, it acts like im on my home network just as my laptop did, but when I hit play the screen just sits there loading until it times out. This happens with the patched version of the app posted as well (not sure if it was patched to support this).
Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks all!

Give this a try
Open the Fibe TV apk with APK Editor in Your Android Box, you want to do a full edit
Search for mirror, you will find a hit on bools.xml
Change the value from true to false. Save the file and build the apk again, let me know if that works for You!
That gets rid of the mirroring error for me but gives me some other crappy connection error on my Shield Android TV Box. However it might work for You!

Not sure if this thread is still going or if I should start a new one. Just wondering if anyone had been able to look into modding the cox apk to function through a vpn (aka NOT in-home) successfully? Or if they can point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Could we get an updated version of of the app. If possible? I need
v4.10.2.007 because it's the only one that'll launch on my Mi Box
can you tell me what is is you did to remove this limitation? or would you mind doing the same for the spectrum apk?
At the moment it stopped working if I tried to login using a new shield tv I was trying to set it up with. Download works, chrome works but after I put my login credentials it saids the file is corrupt anyway to fix that? On my other shield tv it's been logged in so no problems with that, just can't add it to my new one.

I cant find anything in internet except your thread, i wanted to root my airtel internet tv box also, it runs android marshmallow, have you tried finding using the codename ganesa? how did you find the codename ganesa?
From browsing system files using File Explorer, how to start tinkering with this device ?
Do we need to contact any specific Devs ?
My Airtel DTH subscription just ran out, and I have no intentions of renewing it (do most of my TV watching on the phone via JioTV). Unfortunately, without an active subscription the Airtel Internet TV box locks you out of not just the DTH part, but also the Internet part -- you cannot use it as a simple Android TV device.
So have been searching for ways to root the device and/ or bypass the subscription check. Any ideas? Hoping there is a way to wipe out Airtel customised OS and install a vanilla version of Android TV. Or even an Oreo port if that is possible.
Request to senior members to guide us on rooting android TV

Guys need to work please my subscription is about to end and after that it will turn into a ****ing box.
Without Airtel subscription it's android capabilities aur in accesible.
Can someone please upload the Airtel Movies apk from the internet tv.
You can do it using Es File Explorer. Go to Apps then Backup.

Almost all devices ship with either of the above two categories of firmware, though things don’t end there. Independent developers who like to customize their devices beyond the standard options provided often tend to release the fruits of their labor for the rest to enjoy, in form of custom ROMs. The more open the platform, the more independent development it attracts, a good example of which is the independent custom ROM development for Android.
In case of proprietary firmware such as iOS and Windows Phone 7, there is often little or no room for customization of the operating system itself but regardless of that, developers still tend to release custom ROMs bundled with useful tools and hacks applied to provide functionality beyond the stock features.
someone pls post airtel internet tv apk
airtel smart box is just a box without subscription
The airtel internet tv is good till it has a active subscription. But once it's over its a stupid box which can't be used any where so any idea to make it work independently. Can we change its os so it becomes totally a smart box and not a setop box anymore as I don't have any intention to renew my subscription ever. So atleast the box will be useful for me.

i need this too. Now it is upgraded as Airtel XStream if someone can take it up i can install it in my android box
Any response on this? I recently got one upgraded as the old internet tv box went bad and stopped working... Would love to be able to remove subscription check on this new xstream box
@anshul123
I got this trick from a @Dhairy
Not very convenient but I have a way to enjoy apps without recharging DTH, Go to settings ---> apps ---> Airtel Xstream ---> Force Stop
Now, press back button and move back to apps list -----> Look for play store and open from the settings, to your surprise play store will open.
Now, search and install ATV Launcher (Or any launcher of your choice) -----> Open ATV Launcher from app store
Voila you can see all apps there and they would open normally.
Actually the check is done by their Launcher so if we could root and delete that launcher and install android tv home ( Google launcher for android Tv), then theoretically that would bypass the subscription check also.
Unfortunately, you have to force stop Airtel Xstream every time till then. Also I would recommend not to upgrade your box as they may fix this vulnerability and use some other method to check for subscription. Till then enjoy!
I have Airtal Xstream Box and it works perfect on it. However it would be great if someone can come up with a custom ROM for Airtel Xstream Box.
