[Q] screwed up, need help with kernel issue - HTC Sensation

so i recently tried using the "hasoon 2000's htc one x all in one kit" on my htc sensation, the programs states it can be used with my phone as well. i followed all the steps of the program and was able to root my phone, but like an idiot i didnt read that the bottom half was "optional" and assumed the part that lets you flash the kernel 2.6.3934 was a next step. so i clicked flash and my phone did a restart and is now stuck on the white screen with the green htc letters in the middle and wont go past that part. i can still hold down the volume down and power button to get the the boot menu, but even if i try the recovery it just go straight to the white screen with htc letters. yeah im a noob at this trying to learn more. i know theres a way to flash the old kernel back on the phone but idk if that will fix it and or how. and sorry i cant give any more specs on my phone with it not working besides it was bough november 2011. anybody know how to fix?

ok ..here's the thing >>. Never Ever Use Other Devices Tool KIt
The same Developer Has made Sensation Tool kit ..why dont you use that ?
How do you expect One-X kernel will run on Sensation ??? Thank God your device isnt bricked yet
now to resolve the issue
you need to flash couple of things from fasboot/bootloader
do Step #2 and extra #1 step from This Guide
BTW use the stock kernel(boot.img) linked in extra step #1 during the process
(Dont say i cant use ADB ..ADB is not required only fastboot is required ..i strongly suggest you to read those steps completely ..then come here if you got any more doubts )

thanks for the help its very much appreciated. when i did a search for a root kit, the one i used is what it suggested for the sensation. his website said somewhere that he knew it said "one x" but works the same with sensation. otherwise im not that dumb lol i woulda kept looking for one specifically for sensation
and i didnt actually mean to install the kernel, i didnt realize at first it wasnt part of the rooting process and that the program said "optional" my fault for not paying attention. im currently working on what you have posted. im installing everything so i have a c:\android file loaction right now that the other program didnt inform me of clearly.

ahh if you have hansoon's tool kit it should have adb and fastboot already (in tools folder or something ?)
anyways better start clean
most probably after installing the kernel if you are on 3.33 firmware you might have wifi issues but we can resolve that

well so far i have followed steps #1, #2, #3A, #4B, Extra #1, and Extra #2 not necessarily in that order. and in #4B i even installed the SUPERWIPE and the Android Revolution HD. both installed successfully however i still get stuck on the same white screen with green HTC letters (is that what they call the splash image?) and after all this didnt work i tried using the 4ext recovery program to format all partitions and wipe all data. if i did something wrong id love to hear some more advice and i now have more info on my phone from step extra #2

now i want you you to flash ARHD in this order
1.got to 4EXT -> wipe | format -> format all partitions except sdcard
2. Enable smartflash from 4EXT ->tools (make sure it is enabled )
3. Flash ARHD and exactly remember what kernel you have chose
4. Reboot from recovery (dont reboot from ARHD Flashing if it was given as option during Flashing process )
5. wait for atmost 10 minutes ..if not booting do the next step
6. do extra 1 step (be sure to grab the exact boot.img of the kernel you have chosen earlier during flashing ARHD)

after following your steps all the way from 1 through 6 its working again! thanks so much for all your help. i really didnt want to have to go and buy a new phone. however, im still glad this happened because i learned a little bit more about everything and for future posts will also be sure to hide my IMEI. i was afraid of there be something like that i needed to edit out but didnt know what or why.

Excellent!
I, too, fell victim to accidentally flashing the firmware in the Hassoons program. Go figure and live and learn. Following the above steps worked fantastically for me. Thank you! and :good:

Same issure but with S-ON
Hey guys, I did the exact same thing except I still have S-ON... Is it the same steps?
Also, could you please provide me with kinks to the necesary software to fix? (ex: 4ext? and ARHD?)
Thanks ahead of time!!

4 EXT ,look HERE
ARHD ,look HERE

Yes you can follow these steps..
If you are S-ON just enable 'SmartFlash' in 4EXT before flashing the rom.

Use card reader.. Or if you have flashed 4EXT recovery already then you can toggle access the sdcard.. By connecting the phone to pc from recovery... And by toggling "usb mass storage device"

how to flash a new radio rom desire s

Can someone explain or link me to somewhere that tells me how to update my radio version from 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M to 20.41.30.0818U_3817.07.00.19_M. This is the 1st time I will have done this so go gently. I need an idiots guide thanks
How to: Flash Radios
1. Download your Radio zip package.
2. Copy your Radio zip package to your SDcard root directory and rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
3. Turn off your phone and turn it back on by pressing volume down and power button together (You need to turn off fastboot under phone settings > power options).
4. Once you're in hboot, the bootloader will ask you if you want to install radio.img, just press yes. (Volume up means "YES", and volume down means "NO")
5. Once the radio flashing is complete press your power button once to reboot device. Done!
Note: You must delete your Radio zip package or rename it to something else when booting your phone after flashing new radio image since the bootloader will always try to flash if a PG88IMG.zip file is on your SDcard.

The important thing to note from the link provided is the confirmation of the m5dsum prior to the flashing of the radio; in fact you should always check this for any file that you flash not just radio's (ie ROMs etc) although as RADIO's have the most potential to render your phone useless it's imperative that you always check their m5dsum before flashing them, this is just to ensure that there's been no corruption during the download process.
You'll see other RADIO's which are not included within the post shown above from the main INDEX thread under the sub-section RADIO, these include two recently leaked ones...(see my sig for the latest).
Good luck.

md5sum is used to check if your file is corrupt
flashing radio is risky & doing something wrong or flashing corrupt radio can brick your device easily
so checking md5sum ensure that the file you downloaded isnt corrupt
(you should be able to find the original md5 sum in the thread where you got the radio to compare with that of your file)

YES, unless you're S-OFF you shouldn't attempt to update radio unless through an over the air upgrade from your phone network or from HTC.

Start reading the sticky guides (which are the threads at the top) which are at the top of the Forums...
They should both assist in upping your general Android knowledge and informing you of the processes that you are considering going through.
Without sounding insulting I'd suggest that you spend the next few day even a week reading all this information until you have an actual understanding into what you are doing and what the full implications are.
You'll void your device's warranty by doing this so you need to understand what you're doing and why as opposed to blindly following the steps within a guide.
There are people here to assist.....but I believe that you need to understand

Desperate Joe
Don't know where to start, but I have a bit of a headache with my phone. This is my first smart phone and just when I got used to it and began enjoying it, it looks like I've screwed it with an upgrade to ICS. It could be pure coincidence but my phone started constantly rebooting a few days after I upgraded it to Virtous Saga v1.0.0. I've tried several other ROMs in the meantime and I either couldn't install them properly or they gave me the same outcome, i.e. constant rebooting. Currently I'm on ICE DS v 4.3. The weird thing about it is that without a SIM in the phone, I don't get rebooting, but as soon as I put in my SIM card it starts again.
After spending hours looking through various forums, it looks like the constant rebooting is a fairly common problem with HTC phones. Many say that the problem is a faulty motherboard, but since it all started with me when I upgraded to ICS, I've read that it could be due to old radio version. I want to make sure this is not the problem, but I can't seems to be able to flash my radio with the above instructions. I've uploaded PG88IMG.zip onto my SD card and in the hboot I can see the message PG88IMG.zip being parsed but nothing seems to happen after that. Can anyone help?
With one of the radio updated I've downloaded the parsing message showed briefly and disappeared, but now, with another radio flash it gets stuck on that message! What do I do? I was told whatever I do I shouldn't take the battery out, but how do I end this?
Hey Desperate Joe
Haven't actually tried this, but we're about to go for gold... maybe it helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for the post. It think I've combed through all XDADevelopers forums about this and some other elsewhere.
I've realised that my problem is to do with the fact that my phone is S-ON and it looks like there is no way to flash radio unless you have S-OFF.
If someone's managed to do it with S-ON I would dearly love to hear from them.
On S-ON you can update radio by placing a PG88IMG.zip with newer version in the SDcard and reboot to bootloader. It will flash.
The problem is that you cannot to revert if it is not working. You will need to downgrade the entire system.

Yes, I've tried that. Bootloader gets stuck with the message "PG88IMG.zip parsing". After a couple of hours I took out the battery and rebooted. The radio wasn't flashed, but luckily at least the phone wasn't bricked.
In your statement you seem to be fairly confident that should work so I'll try again. And don't worry if I brick my phone I will blame only myself :silly: since I can't work with a phone that keeps restarting with a sim card and the problem was created in the first place by me upgrading to ICS.
How many times do I need to fu** up to get that saying "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!"

I've dropped PG88IMG.zip onto the sdcard and started bootloader. Again I get the message Parsing... [PG88IMG.zip] and there is a vertical blue bar on in the top right corner which gradually goes up and disappears. This, I assume should signal it's been flashed, but the bootloader is stuck on Parsing... [PG88IMG.zip]. I've tried pressing UP, DOWN and POWER buttons at the same time without success so I took out the battery and started the phone again.
I've checked android-info.txt and the cid number is HTCCN701. How do I know that's ok?

[Q] Help! Virtuous Quattro

Ok, Guys i used the Viruos Inquisition and that was the ICS release and the first one for ICS. I decided to go ahead and try out the Virtuous Quattro...I guess i made a stupid mistake when doing so because when i wiped the Virtuos Inquisition and went ahed and installed the Virtuous Quattro..the phone boots up but as soon as you get the Virtuous Quattro logo it starts the animation of it and freezes right there following with a reboot. Now i hope the device is not bricked or in this case if it is i can fix it, i can go to the recover and stuff, But right now i have no idea how to get this going. I wiped the Virtuous Quattro and the phone boots up with that white htc screen, and keeps rebooting..Please walk me through this if you feel merciful for my idiocy..

Hello
Now, don't worry, this is not what is defined as "Bricked".
I can see that you have did a Full wipe of your ROM, which means, currently, your phone do not have a Firmware supported ROM installed on it.
Here are the ways you could try that will/may solve your issue.
1. Reboot your device into recovery and Connect it VIA USB and copy 3.24 RUU & Virtuous Quattro into your ROOT SD Card folder.
2. Flash 3.24 RUU from HERE, MAKE SURE YOUR SUPERCID is 11111111 - your device should reboot after Installing. Pull battery after it Reboots.
3.Eject your SD card and Reboot your device into bootloader, Select boot into recovery and insert the SD card back. Install the latest Virtuous Quattro from HERE.
4.Reboot.
This should work. Do keep me posted & thank me if it helped!
Cheers!
Thank you for your reply. I tried to do what you stated above, a when i tryed to update the firmware it says

Alright, After reviewing your problem, Have you tried reflashing Viruos Inquisition? Does it boot?
Hopefully I can help.
This is what i had to do to make it work. I downloaded the ADB tools so i can use the cmd promot in windows and wrote the cid to 11111111, it said tmobl or something like that before. I flashed the firmware to the one CursedBat linked and the latest one and the device update the firmware. Also here's the catch when it starts updating the firmware, it will reboot, and continue updating so whoever has a similiar problem make sure you don't shut your device off at that time, it will display update completed and provide you with the option to shut the device. It may take a bit to complete so be sure to be patient and let it work it's magic. Virtues Quattro works well so far for me.
P.S i just read your post TechnoIsMyReligion! I am not sure how i end up being in that post you linked before, but you provided a correct solution as well. I should had done that before Thanks for your replies. When it displayed incorrect CID for me when tried to update the firmware i realized i need to look for a solution with CID.

1. Check your CID using fastboot getvar cid and MID using fastboot getvar mid
2a. If your CID and MID are supported by default, navigate to point 3.
2b. If your CID or MID is not supported by default, do this: (you do it at your own risk)
2c. Open PG58IMG.zip (don't extract it)
2d. Open android-info.txt in text editor

[Q] 1st time HTC Sensation user, in what order do I start customizing?

Hi guys. I've just got my brand spanking new HTC Sensation and i'm wondering what order to root/SOFF in and basically anything else as i've not done DIY rooting since my old HTC Desire a couple of years back so i'm a bit rust and confused.
I don't want to mess up and brick my phone so i'd like to know the things to do in the correct order and with the correct software/tools.
1st off i'll give the details about my device:
Phone - HTC Sensation Z710e
HBOOT - 1.27.0000
Android version - 4.0.3
HTC Sense version - 3.6
Software number - 3.32.771.13
Kernel version - 3.0.16-g159c6f3 / [email protected] build- 144 #1 / SMP PREEMPT Tue Apr 3 08:37:16CST 2012
I hope that's enough info but I have more should we need it.
This is how i'm thinking of doing it but please correct me if i'm wrong:
1) S-OFF using the Juopunutbear S-OFF method.
2) Install CWM via this thread.
3) Once that's been done I can go about installing custom ROM's.
Hope that's correct.
Thanks.
hmm as you are on stock ICS
there are few different ways to have root/custom roms
1.staying SON and flashing roms (this involves HTC-DEV unolcked bootloader ..which might void your warranty ...but not a single person was denied warranty until now afaik..but there is risk still involved..as htc keeps your phone info in their data base)
to do that follow this guide to the letter
2.SOFF and flash roms
2.1. SOFF without HTC-DEV unlocked bootloader ...guide link in my signature (ohh forgot to mention HTC-DEV will completely erase your data ..once you do a unlock)
(cons ....wire trick which is required is little bit hard..but all the troubleshoot has been covered)
2.2 SOFF with HTC-DEV unlocked bootloader....guide link here
(you can skip steps #2 and #3 as you are already stock ..igf you decided to use that)
for both the SOFF procedures ..there is a good tool too ..here is the tool (it not only does soff ..but a lot of other stuff...do check it )
after gaining SOFF ..you can flash recovery ..and then ROM installation
thanks for the reply.
So basically to do everything I should just use this?

yep you can use that
and for thanks ..there is a button for that
I'm starting to lose it with this SOFF business. I've just beet at it far at least half an hour and it constantly fails with the error 66732337.
Could you link me to any ROM's that don't need SOFF please? Lost patience with this.
I've heard you have to be really precise with the wires
Haha i've literally just done it abour 20 seconds ago, tooted and SOFF! I can't get CWM to work though, i'm trying to flash it with that all-in-one job and i've donw everything it tells me to do but upon pressing the power button I get
CID incorrect!
Update fail!

Any ideas?
For the wire trick it's a matter of timing don't give up.read over instructions again regarding the timing.I know you can do it is just going to take patience. You will be glad later you s off as there is more you can do and it makes things much easier later. Hang in there and I know you will have success . Best wishes.

All sorted now, needed to flash the 11111111 CID.
Off to try some ROM's, is there anything else I need to do before that? I've rotted it, SOFF and installed CWM. As far as I know that's it but if there's anything else please tell me.

use 4EXT recovery ..its much better imho
for recovery ..you can do it via 4ext app
but for that you need root
you can use my one click root for that (soff guide link in my signature)
Damn i've just installed CWM, is there any difference between the two there than 1 having touch screen or do they have different functions? Don't really want to keep messing about if both are basically the same.
some rom installation works only on 4EXT (it will be mentioned in the thread ..like ARHD)...so its you call ..it has lot of other features too ..and completely supports backup made by cwm too
Alright, last few questions and i'll be gone!
Currently using the CM9 nightly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654409
1) How do I go about installing 4EXT with CWM already installed?
2) I've just installed CM9. When I have the ROM on my desktop, can I go into the 'app' folder and remove some of the crap I won't be using? Things like Email, Movie Studio, Terminal Emulator, DPS Manager, ROM Manager, Voice Dialer, WiFi Calling? I used to do this on my old HTC Desire and it was a trail and error process but it did not damage/brick my phone in any way, all I used to get were screen with 'this application is not responding' etc. Is this still safe to do on the HTC Sensation?
3) In CM9 Nightly, how come I can't overclock past 1.2Ghz (stock speed)?
Thanks guys.
1: if you have root, just download the app from play store
2: yes, you can
3: you need to flash a kernel supporting overclock, like bricked AOSP.
If you run into problems, let me know

Alright, I lied about the 'final question'.
Basically i've uninstalled that 4EXT Easy Flash from here and it's replaced CWM. Works fine but i'm wondering if that's the newest version? Or could someone link me to the newest version please?
Download 4ext recovery updater free from the play store. It lets you update the recovery if u dont have newest version
Guys does anyone know the .apk name of 'Movie Studio'? Removing all the crap I won't use now and I can't find it in the app list folder.
Thanks.
I found VideoEditor.apk in system/app on CM9 RC 1
Got it, thank you very much!
Edit: I've also deleted 'Voice Dialer' and 'Update Me'. Hope that's O.K.

There are only three causes I can think of for the problem you have described;-
1) You aren't flashing the kernel
2) You have the wrong hBoot and it doesn't include the partition required for the new ROMs
3) You have the 'other' type of panel and need to use the specialist kernel

Actually, none of those seem to be the case here:
1. If the op is following the procedure he outlined in the first post, he is flashing the kernel
2. The op has already specified, that he is on hboot 2.00.002, any rom will work with that
3. If the op can't install ics roms either (as specified in his last post), then it can't be (only) the panel issue.
Please read before responding, SimonTS
That all being said, I can't think what the problem might be.

Excuse me for upsetting you in such a monumental way oh great one. I originally suggested (maybe a little abruptly, but given the majority of the posts on here and the total lack of information provided by the OP it was fair) that it was the hBoot as this is by far the most likely cause - he said he was running v2.00.002. I then suggested he look at the panel issue - he then decided to say that it wasn't just JB ROMs, but also ICS ones which had a problem. I then said I could only think of three possible causes - the same three that you can think of.
What, EXACTLY, did I say in there that caused you such upset?
The fact is that the OP STILL hasn't provided any useful information about his phone to help us help him - and he should still check his panel as a possible issue; maybe by trying to flash JB ROMs on the wrong type of panel he has caused further problems? I don't know and am just stood there with my manhood flapping in the wind to try and suggest anything else without further information from the OP.

If I was in your situation then I would be starting from basics;-
Full wipe - EVERYTHING
Re-install 4EXT Touch Recovery (latest version) - Check MD5 after downloading
Re-flash hBoot - Check MD5 after downloading
Full wipe - EVERYTHING
Format all partitions to EXT4 (not EXT3)
Full wipe - EVERYTHING
Install an ICS or JB ROM - Check MD5 after downloading
If this fails then do all the above but with a known solid GB ROM - Reaper or Endymion to make sure there's not something worse going on.
Also, regardless of your previous answer, do the test to ensure which panel your DS has - better to waste 2 minutes and be proved right than waste 2 days if you are wrong.

[Q] No OS installed HTC ONE X

I have the htc one x with Rogers, version 3.17.631.2... the RUU isn't available for this version.
***TAMPERED***
***UNLOCKED***
s-on
Currently I have no OS installed, I have been searching through forums on this website for about 6 hours last night with no solution. Can someone please help. Thanks
I also have the token ID saved on my computer.
What I tried was:
installing the stock rogers PJ83IMG.zip from here
but since my version is 3.17.631.2 it wouldn't let me downgrade to the 1.73.631.1 version
Any suggestions?
Why are you trying to ruu. In order to ruu downgrade you will need to be s-off.
Sent from my VENOMized HoxL
is there any way to be s-off with no OS installed?
1. How did you even delete the OS?
2. Do you have a custom recovery?
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I was installing a custom rom, and erased the OS by accident in TRWP, and I can flash a custom recovery on my phone. What would i do after that though?
Also go to the cleanROM thread and use their boot.img to get things at least booting up
You don't need soff to flash img files via fastboot
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
alright im giving it a try atm!
Why not just flash a ROM? You already have a custom recovery on your phone, that's what TWRP is. Should you really be messing with your phone in the first place though? It doesn't seem like you have the faintest idea of what you're doing if you can't even recover from deleting your OS.

I tend to agree. There has also seems to be an increase of this occurrence in the last several months of "I wiped the OS accidentally and I don't know how to recover". Which is a bit troubling since the default wipe in TWRP is factory reset, Dalvik, and cache. The Wipe screen on TWRP explicitly states that this is all the is usually needed. If you wipe /system, you did so deliberately by going into the Advanced screen and picking it from there. Meaning the OP took extra steps to do something without knowing if it was necessary, and without knowing how to recover from it.
This also means the OP didn't create a nandroid backup in TWRP, which would have been a simple way to recover. This is basic, fundamental step that should be taken whenever modding a phone, but something n00bs seem to be "skipping" (or ignorant of) lately.
This type of behavior/mindset while modding does not bode well for the life of your phone.
actually the TWRP recovery i had on my phone was really outdated. i didnt have the advanced option. I simply had to pick from a list and i wiped it all without warning.
I've learned what i have done wrong, and thank you guys for it.
I currently have cleanROM flashed on my phone, but its really buggy.. it even turns off randomly and if i ever lose reception I will have to restart my phone to gain reception again. Not sure why this is happening? What do you guys suggest I do?
You need to search properly before posting. It's XDA rules. The reboots and signal loss problems have been discussed countless times in the Cleanrom thread. Read a few of the last pages and you're guaranteed to find the solution.

That's a pretty lame excuse. My previous general notion still holds: You took deliberate steps to wipe the OS (/system) as that option is still not selected as default even on older versions of TWRP. And you were therefore wiping things willy-nilly without understanding what they were, whether they really needed to be wiped, or how to recover from them.
And you still should have made a nandroid (TWRP backup).
All in all, it implies a careless mindset while modding your phone (skipping steps and doing things without understanding).
I have searched the forum: [ROM][9/11] - CleanROM 7.0.P1 -★| Android 4.2.2! | Sense 5! | Lite! | Stable! |★-
and found that if i install hboot 2.15 on my phone it should stop rebooting and the reception would go back to normal right?
is there anything else I have to do.
please, if it isn't too much trouble link me to a guide that fixes these issue for the HTC One X (Rogers)
or just give me a few steps of how to fix these issue.
Thank you so much!
PS my battery life improved so much, i usually charged my phone twice a day, and I haven't charged my phone at since 7am today.
Yes. Flash the 2.15 firmware. It's in the first post of Turge's stock Sense 5 ROM thread in the development section.

Step 1: SuperCID 11111111
Step 2: S-Off using beaups guide
Step 3: Flash the 2.15 firmware
Can someone link me to the best guide to follow for step 1?
You can do it two ways, here's the first:
Step 1: SuperCID with hex edit method.
Step 2: S-off with Facepalm S-off.
Step 3: Flash firmware.
Or the other way:
Step 1: S-off with Rumrunner S-off.
Step 2: SuperCID with fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
Step 3: Flash firmware.
I believe the second method is easier. The Rumrunner s-off process seems much easier, it doesn't require you to have SuperCID first to work. Once s-off is achieved you can easily change your CID by fastboot command as opposed to messing around with hex editing.
