[Q] Help! Virtuous Quattro - HTC Sensation

Ok, Guys i used the Viruos Inquisition and that was the ICS release and the first one for ICS. I decided to go ahead and try out the Virtuous Quattro...I guess i made a stupid mistake when doing so because when i wiped the Virtuos Inquisition and went ahed and installed the Virtuous Quattro..the phone boots up but as soon as you get the Virtuous Quattro logo it starts the animation of it and freezes right there following with a reboot. Now i hope the device is not bricked or in this case if it is i can fix it, i can go to the recover and stuff, But right now i have no idea how to get this going. I wiped the Virtuous Quattro and the phone boots up with that white htc screen, and keeps rebooting..Please walk me through this if you feel merciful for my idiocy..

Hello
Now, don't worry, this is not what is defined as "Bricked".
I can see that you have did a Full wipe of your ROM, which means, currently, your phone do not have a Firmware supported ROM installed on it.
Here are the ways you could try that will/may solve your issue.
1. Reboot your device into recovery and Connect it VIA USB and copy 3.24 RUU & Virtuous Quattro into your ROOT SD Card folder.
2. Flash 3.24 RUU from HERE, MAKE SURE YOUR SUPERCID is 11111111 - your device should reboot after Installing. Pull battery after it Reboots.
3.Eject your SD card and Reboot your device into bootloader, Select boot into recovery and insert the SD card back. Install the latest Virtuous Quattro from HERE.
4.Reboot.
This should work. Do keep me posted & thank me if it helped!
Cheers!

Thank you for your reply. I tried to do what you stated above, a when i tryed to update the firmware it says
Incorrect CID, I have no clue how to check that CID now

Alright, After reviewing your problem, Have you tried reflashing Viruos Inquisition? Does it boot?
Hopefully I can help.

This is what i had to do to make it work. I downloaded the ADB tools so i can use the cmd promot in windows and wrote the cid to 11111111, it said tmobl or something like that before. I flashed the firmware to the one CursedBat linked and the latest one and the device update the firmware. Also here's the catch when it starts updating the firmware, it will reboot, and continue updating so whoever has a similiar problem make sure you don't shut your device off at that time, it will display update completed and provide you with the option to shut the device. It may take a bit to complete so be sure to be patient and let it work it's magic. Virtues Quattro works well so far for me.
P.S i just read your post TechnoIsMyReligion! I am not sure how i end up being in that post you linked before, but you provided a correct solution as well. I should had done that before Thanks for your replies. When it displayed incorrect CID for me when tried to update the firmware i realized i need to look for a solution with CID.

1. Check your CID using fastboot getvar cid and MID using fastboot getvar mid
2a. If your CID and MID are supported by default, navigate to point 3.
2b. If your CID or MID is not supported by default, do this: (you do it at your own risk)
2c. Open PG58IMG.zip (don't extract it)
2d. Open android-info.txt in text editor
2e. Add your cidnum: <your CID> or modelid: <your MID> to the list, save file and close archive
3. Place PG58IMG.zip on your SD card
4. Boot your device holding power button + vol down button
5. Follow instructions on the screen

how to flash a new radio rom desire s

Can someone explain or link me to somewhere that tells me how to update my radio version from 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03_M to 20.41.30.0818U_3817.07.00.19_M. This is the 1st time I will have done this so go gently. I need an idiots guide thanks
How to: Flash Radios
1. Download your Radio zip package.
2. Copy your Radio zip package to your SDcard root directory and rename it to PG88IMG.zip.
3. Turn off your phone and turn it back on by pressing volume down and power button together (You need to turn off fastboot under phone settings > power options).
4. Once you're in hboot, the bootloader will ask you if you want to install radio.img, just press yes. (Volume up means "YES", and volume down means "NO")
5. Once the radio flashing is complete press your power button once to reboot device. Done!
Note: You must delete your Radio zip package or rename it to something else when booting your phone after flashing new radio image since the bootloader will always try to flash if a PG88IMG.zip file is on your SDcard.

The important thing to note from the link provided is the confirmation of the m5dsum prior to the flashing of the radio; in fact you should always check this for any file that you flash not just radio's (ie ROMs etc) although as RADIO's have the most potential to render your phone useless it's imperative that you always check their m5dsum before flashing them, this is just to ensure that there's been no corruption during the download process.
You'll see other RADIO's which are not included within the post shown above from the main INDEX thread under the sub-section RADIO, these include two recently leaked ones...(see my sig for the latest).
Good luck.

md5sum is used to check if your file is corrupt
flashing radio is risky & doing something wrong or flashing corrupt radio can brick your device easily
so checking md5sum ensure that the file you downloaded isnt corrupt
(you should be able to find the original md5 sum in the thread where you got the radio to compare with that of your file)

YES, unless you're S-OFF you shouldn't attempt to update radio unless through an over the air upgrade from your phone network or from HTC.

Start reading the sticky guides (which are the threads at the top) which are at the top of the Forums...
They should both assist in upping your general Android knowledge and informing you of the processes that you are considering going through.
Without sounding insulting I'd suggest that you spend the next few day even a week reading all this information until you have an actual understanding into what you are doing and what the full implications are.
You'll void your device's warranty by doing this so you need to understand what you're doing and why as opposed to blindly following the steps within a guide.
There are people here to assist.....but I believe that you need to understand

Desperate Joe
Don't know where to start, but I have a bit of a headache with my phone. This is my first smart phone and just when I got used to it and began enjoying it, it looks like I've screwed it with an upgrade to ICS. It could be pure coincidence but my phone started constantly rebooting a few days after I upgraded it to Virtous Saga v1.0.0. I've tried several other ROMs in the meantime and I either couldn't install them properly or they gave me the same outcome, i.e. constant rebooting. Currently I'm on ICE DS v 4.3. The weird thing about it is that without a SIM in the phone, I don't get rebooting, but as soon as I put in my SIM card it starts again.
After spending hours looking through various forums, it looks like the constant rebooting is a fairly common problem with HTC phones. Many say that the problem is a faulty motherboard, but since it all started with me when I upgraded to ICS, I've read that it could be due to old radio version. I want to make sure this is not the problem, but I can't seems to be able to flash my radio with the above instructions. I've uploaded PG88IMG.zip onto my SD card and in the hboot I can see the message PG88IMG.zip being parsed but nothing seems to happen after that. Can anyone help?
With one of the radio updated I've downloaded the parsing message showed briefly and disappeared, but now, with another radio flash it gets stuck on that message! What do I do? I was told whatever I do I shouldn't take the battery out, but how do I end this?
Hey Desperate Joe
Haven't actually tried this, but we're about to go for gold... maybe it helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for the post. It think I've combed through all XDADevelopers forums about this and some other elsewhere.
I've realised that my problem is to do with the fact that my phone is S-ON and it looks like there is no way to flash radio unless you have S-OFF.
If someone's managed to do it with S-ON I would dearly love to hear from them.
On S-ON you can update radio by placing a PG88IMG.zip with newer version in the SDcard and reboot to bootloader. It will flash.
The problem is that you cannot to revert if it is not working. You will need to downgrade the entire system.

Yes, I've tried that. Bootloader gets stuck with the message "PG88IMG.zip parsing". After a couple of hours I took out the battery and rebooted. The radio wasn't flashed, but luckily at least the phone wasn't bricked.
In your statement you seem to be fairly confident that should work so I'll try again. And don't worry if I brick my phone I will blame only myself :silly: since I can't work with a phone that keeps restarting with a sim card and the problem was created in the first place by me upgrading to ICS.
How many times do I need to fu** up to get that saying "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!"

I've dropped PG88IMG.zip onto the sdcard and started bootloader. Again I get the message Parsing... [PG88IMG.zip] and there is a vertical blue bar on in the top right corner which gradually goes up and disappears. This, I assume should signal it's been flashed, but the bootloader is stuck on Parsing... [PG88IMG.zip]. I've tried pressing UP, DOWN and POWER buttons at the same time without success so I took out the battery and started the phone again.
I've checked android-info.txt and the cid number is HTCCN701. How do I know that's ok?

Hi,
You are trying to flash the wrong firmware.
You need the 3.12 firmware .(just below the 3.06 firmware on the thread page)
This will give you an hboot 1.23 so that you can flash a 6.x.x ROM.
Well thats y i am confused... i had alrdy installed the 3.06 firmware (figd meant i was supercid) and had attempted to do the 3.12 (from the same thread) but its giving me the update error. I just tried it again and exact same thing happens. I believe it is an 18mb firmware file just to be sure its correct?
So far in all my searches i havent read where anyone has had this issue so thats y im confused as to y it wont work!

I am stuck for 2 days Need help PLZ

Hi guys
I have really strange problem, could you please help me out.
I am was using insert coin rom 4.4.1 and every thing was good so far,
Then i have realized that i have s- off and rooted my phone but i didn't super cid it
So i want to do that, i have supercid it by following the steps listed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300.
After i reboot the phone, it stayed in the flash screen (HTC screen)
I have reinstalled the rom and even other roms, but nothing was done.
I have tried to reflash it using firmwire 3.24 but samething.
FYI: i have already supercid it i have checked it by adb and it is 11111111
There is small problem, i didn't remember my proper cid, all i know it is a europe version of sensation.
i have this written in recovery session:
REVOLUTIONARY
pyramid PUT ship s off RL
boot 1.27.1110
Radio 11.21.3504.13.2
Open ADSP V02-6-0.2226.00.0104
EMMC-boot
Jan 13-2012, 17:33:34
Please help me i am lost here, DONT TELL ME THAT I HAVE DAMAGED THE PHONE!!
Thanks
Not sure if this will help
Hey I am not sure about your problem not heard of this. Maybe you need to super cid before flashing new firmware. Maybe if you can remember what your cid was before, you can change back and see if it makes any difference. maybe once returned to the stock cid you can revert firmware and then super cid. I am not sure though! I am just taking a stab at it since no one else has answered. here is a link with some firmware and it also tells stock cid's for different carriers/countries. Also maybe try flashing different firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
maybe that will refresh your memory to what yours was.
Good Luck
P.S. I think that since you still have access to recovery you will be able to resolve the issue (not hard bricked yet), just need to figure out what the problem is exactly.
Given that you still have access to your SDcard, trying flashing a new rom and firmware (go for Virtuous Inquisition).

I have already tried other roms:

If you wanna use ARHD 3.6.13 you need to downgrade your firmware to 3.12 or 1.17 it won't run on 3.24
I would downgrade your firmware, go to a GB rom, get it so your phone boots, then go through the process of going back to ICS.

Last time when I had major issue with my phone, I flashed couple different firmwares and different ICS and GB ROM. And somehow it worked for me. I'm just saying there's always hope. Dont give up! And good luck!
flash the latest official eu RUU, if nothing works.
You can always s-off/root then afterwards.
Where has InsertCoin Rom gone?? It appears to have disappeared!

Nothing, most do not use fastboot commands, so don't worry about it. You are still s-off and able to flash any rom you desire.

you need to STOP flashing random firmware...if you don't know what it is and what the outcome is going to be, do not flash it
follow these instructions:

I have downgraded my firmwire to 3.12 and i have used hd 3.16.13 GB rom.
The bad news is that nothing done yet, stucking in HTC splash screen.
But there is something i want to add, may be is the clue to this problem .
I have realized that when i remove my SD card from the phone and i want to read it in my PC, it appears protected each time and this is strange (virus effect).
may be my SD card was damaged and it is the only problem of stucking???
What do you think guys??

Perhaps you accidentally set some sort of sharing protection on the SD card, which doesn't let the phone access the adequate files? If so, try reformatting your card on fat32. And then copy back the firmware/rom and attempt flashing again.
i have already formatted the SD card, coping Rom and firmwire PG58IMG reflash the rom .
Still stuck in HTC S screen.
What about RUU?
Any suggestion ?

If your bootloader says LOCKED like you previously indicated then you can not use fastboot commands as kpjimmy already said. Because you never supercid your phone you probably have some partial firmware update.
If I were you I would flash an older RUU to get to a known stable config and then start over.
No i have changed the firmwire and it is written revolutionary in purple.

You have to remove the firmware from the card after flashing it. But to bypass it, does your phone boot once you flash the rom and then remove the sd card?
kpjimmy
when i updated the firmware hboot then the phone wrote push the power button to reboot, the problem is the phone will try to run the rom already installed in the phone, so i am forced to remove the battery and then remove the firmware from my PC.
in order to install the new rom.

[Q] screwed up, need help with kernel issue

so i recently tried using the "hasoon 2000's htc one x all in one kit" on my htc sensation, the programs states it can be used with my phone as well. i followed all the steps of the program and was able to root my phone, but like an idiot i didnt read that the bottom half was "optional" and assumed the part that lets you flash the kernel 2.6.3934 was a next step. so i clicked flash and my phone did a restart and is now stuck on the white screen with the green htc letters in the middle and wont go past that part. i can still hold down the volume down and power button to get the the boot menu, but even if i try the recovery it just go straight to the white screen with htc letters. yeah im a noob at this trying to learn more. i know theres a way to flash the old kernel back on the phone but idk if that will fix it and or how. and sorry i cant give any more specs on my phone with it not working besides it was bough november 2011. anybody know how to fix?
ok ..here's the thing >>. Never Ever Use Other Devices Tool KIt
The same Developer Has made Sensation Tool kit ..why dont you use that ?
How do you expect One-X kernel will run on Sensation ??? Thank God your device isnt bricked yet
now to resolve the issue
you need to flash couple of things from fasboot/bootloader
do Step #2 and extra #1 step from This Guide
BTW use the stock kernel(boot.img) linked in extra step #1 during the process
(Dont say i cant use ADB ..ADB is not required only fastboot is required ..i strongly suggest you to read those steps completely ..then come here if you got any more doubts )

thanks for the help its very much appreciated. when i did a search for a root kit, the one i used is what it suggested for the sensation. his website said somewhere that he knew it said "one x" but works the same with sensation. otherwise im not that dumb lol i woulda kept looking for one specifically for sensation
and i didnt actually mean to install the kernel, i didnt realize at first it wasnt part of the rooting process and that the program said "optional" my fault for not paying attention. im currently working on what you have posted. im installing everything so i have a c:\android file loaction right now that the other program didnt inform me of clearly.

ahh if you have hansoon's tool kit it should have adb and fastboot already (in tools folder or something ?)
anyways better start clean
most probably after installing the kernel if you are on 3.33 firmware you might have wifi issues but we can resolve that

well so far i have followed steps #1, #2, #3A, #4B, Extra #1, and Extra #2 not necessarily in that order. and in #4B i even installed the SUPERWIPE and the Android Revolution HD. both installed successfully however i still get stuck on the same white screen with green HTC letters (is that what they call the splash image?) and after all this didnt work i tried using the 4ext recovery program to format all partitions and wipe all data. if i did something wrong id love to hear some more advice and i now have more info on my phone from step extra #2

you got the recovery working ? then good
first of all edit your post masking IMEI
now i want you you to flash ARHD in this order
1.got to 4EXT -> wipe | format -> format all partitions except sdcard
2. Enable smartflash from 4EXT ->tools (make sure it is enabled )
3. Flash ARHD and exactly remember what kernel you have chose
4. Reboot from recovery (dont reboot from ARHD Flashing if it was given as option during Flashing process )
5. wait for atmost 10 minutes ..if not booting do the next step
6. do extra 1 step (be sure to grab the exact boot.img of the kernel you have chosen earlier during flashing ARHD)
if its still not booting come here again

after following your steps all the way from 1 through 6 its working again! thanks so much for all your help. i really didnt want to have to go and buy a new phone. however, im still glad this happened because i learned a little bit more about everything and for future posts will also be sure to hide my IMEI. i was afraid of there be something like that i needed to edit out but didnt know what or why.
Excellent!
I, too, fell victim to accidentally flashing the firmware in the Hassoons program. Go figure and live and learn. Following the above steps worked fantastically for me. Thank you! and :good:
Same issure but with S-ON
Hey guys, I did the exact same thing except I still have S-ON... Is it the same steps?
Also, could you please provide me with kinks to the necesary software to fix? (ex: 4ext? and ARHD?)
Thanks ahead of time!!

[Q] HTC Sensation totally stock in boot loop

Hi, new to the forums and completely perplexed by this rom root flashing stuff. I have tried following some guides but I'm just not sure that they are applicable in my circumstance:
Situation:
1. Complete technophobe sister came back from holiday complaining she needed a new battery for her Sensation as it just kept rebooting over and over.
2. This phone has NEVER been modded or flashed or god knows what. It was unlocked from its carrier (Vodafone) though by the previous owner. Bought in the UK.
3. I had another spare battery and used that. Same situation.
4. I started googling. Lots of people with similar situations but not identical. Key difference is that all of them have meddled with their devices FIRST and THEN got into this bootloop.
5. All the advice is therefore a few steps ahead of where I am and is leaving me confused and puzzles.
What the device can/can't do:
I can get to the Boot menu and navigate it
I cannot boot into Android proper as it were.
"Recovery" and "Factory Reset" both send the phone into its boot loop cycle.
Defining what I call a bootloop:
Goes to the blank white screen with HTC logo then off then rinse and repeat over and over.
What I have done:
I tired following some links from some of these threads and did a SuperCID??? (the thing where you go to cmd and do fastboot-reboot 11111111 or something similar) as all the threads kept complaining that the OP hadn't done this yet. This seemed to be successful but the instructions following then didn't seem to apply.

You could try putting paper or cardboard between the battery and the back cover to keep snug and fit.
If that doesn't work, then I would try to run a ruu.exe to restore the phone to stock. Look here for ruu.exe: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26541170

I'd like to add just because you do not seem to be S-OFF, which means you don't have SuperCID, pick an RUU based on your device's CID, else it will not work. check what your CID is and pick the RUU compatible with it. It should be what the phone came with (same region and carrier).
I believe RUU should fix this issue, so you should definitely try that. SuperCID cannot be achieved while S-ON, but it doesn't really matter in your situation (unless you can't find the appropriate RUU).

Anyway, checking the CID before doing anything should be good, just to be safe. And at least as far as I know, it's only possible to achieve SuperCID while S-OFF (possible to S-ON later, but to achieve you must have S-OFF at the time). But this doesn't matter to the problem at hand.

This is where I got confused and started to seek assistance. I have no idea what my CID is or really how to use an RUU or what one to pick. It was a UK Vodafone handset but I don't know how this corresponds to anything or what to do about it.

If you got your device from UK vodaphone then this should be your RUU (got it from RUU thread in Sensation Development).
if you want to check CID (you need adb and fastboot with device drivers on your computers, I'll explain in short (and assume you have the tools)):
connect phone to computer with USB debugging enabled
-adb reboot bootloader
when bootloader starts, run this:
-"fastboot getvar cid"
this will give you the CID your device has.

Hi. Maybe no one has reported it but u can have supercid with s-on, and i dont mean by going s-off first. It is very rare tho, like if u work for lets say vodafone then u can get a stock s-on phone with supercid. For development r something i think. But like i said, its very rare that us general public get our hands on them. But it is possible
Got it to show my cid. Error when flashing the rom using the executable file. Will try again when back from work
Getting stuck at step 4.2/4.3 of this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26541170). The archive is always corrupt and thus changes cannot be made to the text file. I can't do 4.3 because it says error not correct id (ERROR [130]: MODEL ID ERROR)and it directs back to 4.2. Any suggestions?
I have also tried HTCs own flash update (https://support.htc.com/en-us/HTC_S..._Updates/Software_Update_for_HTC_Sensation_4G) this also fails to work for exactly the same reasons.

maybe you used an RUU of SE when you are not (or otherwise, regular for XE). beside CID, there is MID. the procedure of adding your MID and checking the MID is similiar to the CID.
MID indicates your model - in this case mainly three are possible: one for regular sensation, one for XE, and one for 4G.

I have also tried HTCs own flash update (https://support.htc.com/en-us/HTC_S..._Updates/Software_Update_for_HTC_Sensation_4G) this also fails to work for exactly the same reasons.

when you are trying to add your cid to the text file don't extract it
just open it as it is,add your cid and then save it

I am doing this. The zipped folder is unable to be opened in windows explorer (opened not extracted) as it says it is not valid. I then tried to use winrar to open it (not extract it) This worked. However when I attempt to save the modifications it says archive corrupt and unable to save.
I can't even do the S-OFF then Super CID thing because my HBOOT (1.27.0000) isn't listed here..... http://revolutionary.io
Managed to get a RUUto flash to it - http://freakshare.com/files/gt7345y....23.3504.07_M2_release_251541_signed.exe.html
Unfortunately this has not fixed the problem. I suspect this may be terminal. Any suggestions?
HI there guys, I have the phone in my hands now.
Will is one of my close friends and I plan to get it back alive.
I'll try and look around and post questions here, as I'm not familiar with HTC devices.
I've flashed god knows how many Samsung's and helped quite a few hundred thousand people with flashing via ODIN.
To me: The phone seems locked, and stuck in a bootloop.
Wiping doesn't resolve the issue, nor does trying to flash another firmware as it comes with errors.

with that hboot version you can only use juopunutbear method to S-OFF the device
try to unlock the bootloader via htcdev site
flash a custom recovery(i suggest 4ext)
flash a custom rom from recovery(before flashing enable smartflash from 4ext)
