RAM doesn't work that way.
It is dynamic & allocated as required.
Unused RAM is wasted not saved.
The Android OS is very efficient in that aspect. I've never ever felt the need for greater RAM capacity on my phone.
Again, the amount of free RAM is entirely dependent on what apps are running & what processes are running in the background, so there's really no way to say how much free RAM you will have on any ROM.
Try some custom ROMs. AOSP is usually the lightest on memory.

in any case 200-250mb of free ram is pretty enough

desire s ram and cpu usage.

So i just rooted the phone and installed the virtuous unity rom. When i installed the rom i assumed it would take care of the ram and cpu problems which is why i didn't really care much. But since it didn't solve the problem, i'm starting to wonder where the hell all the cpu and ram power is going. On idle i only have about 150mb of ram available and my cpu is 50% in use. Is this normal? Can anything be done about it?
It's also very noticeable.
Strange.
Are you controlling the running services and application-tasks manually ?
I usually have around 400MB free ram and cpu usage is just on the normal range, and an ordinary task manager does the job.

is your phone running slowly? 150Mb is loads or RAM, have you ever run out?
custom roms tend to make more use of RAM for caches and to improve performance etc....especially if you try sense 3.0 based rom which by nature will be larger.
How did you manage to get 400mb!?!?!?!?! What rom are you running?
It does lag quite a bit at times which seems to go away after the use of a task killer but i don't use task killers anymore as i failed to see the point in them.
also why does the phone claim to have 768mb when i can only see about 611mb. Is there some memory reserved for the os or something?

You can't get 400Mb that must be a typo! unless you've created a Senseless ROM.
Even when I kill ever process that runs using the the fast reboot market app I still get less than 350Mb!
I have over 400MB free, stock ROM, Settings take nearly 18MB, so my guess is about 418MB free. Based on stock app manager. I have lots of apps, 3G Watchdog running and five full home screens. I had very same situation on previous DS. How much do you have?

i can't believe my eyes here.....
I just tested it again and there was 440MB (458MB w/o Settings) and about 150MB used. But I'm OT, sorry.

Total memory: 612MB
Used: 424MB
Free: 188MB
Running Virtuous Unity too, atm have 100mb free RAM. Can't say I think th phone is running slow though....

Sure not! Tried both roms and they work really FAST!
so the ram available is okay, but the 50% CPU is a problem i guess(i dont have a program to check that)
If you fell that your phone is slow even after wipe and flashing a new rom it might be a hardware issue.

Are you sure that you're not getting the and free and in use figures muddled?

Check image in attachment.
That's the memory when i kill all unnecessary crap running.
With the needed apps running it varies let's say 350-380MB.
Using stock rom ( europe )
:O WOW, maybe is time for me to back to stock!, joking but wow...well, looking in that screen ( on settings) i get
185 MB used and 405 MB free

Android HD Revolution ROM

Hey guys,
Since I can't post in the developmental section I have to make a separate thread here.
Anyway I just started to use this rom 3.5.6. and noticed that some of my games are laggy!!
I also notice that there is only 150 mb free memory left on a fresh boot. Is there anyway to make available more ram??
Move apps to your SD card.

It's not a internal memory which he is talking about...his problem is low ram..
Mate grab App named Android Assistant from market and see which how many apps are running at startup...you can also disable items you don't want running automatically on boot..
It's not Ram, if the app needed more memory, it would kil apps that it thinks you aren't using. Which kernel are you using? Stock kernel kills 3D games, try the Bricked kernel.
I'm using faux kernal, but i think it was a problem with doodle jump, where it didnt feel as smooth. I tried other games like modern combat, and its smooth as butter!!!
I've tested this ROM today, too. But in my opinion this ROM isn't as smooth as the others. Or even the other HD ROMs before. Sliding between the homescreens was laggy.
Maybe it's the same issue why you have performance problems within games. But take a look at the kernel section within the HD thread.
The advice seems to be not to worry about free RAM—the more your phone is using, the better it will run. Free RAM isn't helping you.

{q} (is there)a way to get at least 450 mb± RAM

the title says enough...is there a way to achieve that much free space? sometimes i want to play a game what needs more RAM...but i only have 200 mb± with the latest coredroid...it is really dissapointing...:\

Don't worry the games will be fine, Android will free up resources for processes that require it. And the status bar task manager(HTC) and settings show different amounts of RAM. In settings the value is significantly higher, seems a lot of apps are cached in RAM. Anyway you can still play those games and not worry.

Are you referring to internal memory or actual ram? If ram the sensation has qhd making sense use more ram. You can use supercharger v6 to change minfree values for more ram. And if you really mean internal mem, you can uninstall some apps or clear caches. Dhd and sensation have same amount of storage allocated to data partition.

On a completely clean install with noa pps installed you'll only get 250MB free RAM - you'll never see 450MB free with a Sense-based ROM. End of
It's not necessary. If the game needs more memory, Android will free up the memory for it when the game is running. Keeping 450MB memory free all the time is highly inefficient use of the available memory. That basically means that 450MB memory is kept from being used. People really should stop obsess with large "free memory" number on Android.

well you might not get exactly 450mb free.
but i think in the developers forum, there is a custom rom you can port to your rooted phone that doesnt include the HTC sense and some apps to free up some space for you.
You deff won't get 450mb free even with an asop rom.
Like everyone else said, android does a pretty good job at memory management and clear memory when apps need more.
A lot of RAM is reserved for HW drivers first, then Android reserves some, an some processes are cached and then there's your free RAM which is less 300MB>Senny, but I use Supercharger MOD and get avg of 200MB on homescreen(w/ a lot widgets).

How much spare ram do you have

I only have around 800mb of spare ram where I used to have over a gig of spare ram.
I haven't checked it in a while so maybe on if the system updates if using up more.
The only extra thing I have running from stock really is swift keyboard...
How much do you guys have?

Unused ram is ram wasted. Android optimizes the ram consumption as and when required so that there isn't any lag. Don't worry about it!

Samsung's Ram Usage Madness

I think it is normal ram usage for apps until the find out m8 uses only 1/10 it.You can see in screenshot what i want to say.For example whatsapp is using 122 mb ram for m8 same app is using 40 mb ram.I do not understand this.Ok touchwiz is using less ram but why the other applications usage is so high. The other example is spotify .(174 mb) Also greenify using 62 mb ram but for m8 it is only consuming 5 mb ram.
I am using audax 22.3 lollipop with civz kernel.I removed or frozen apps that i do not use and greenified some of them.
Maybe the problem for battery is this situation.Kitkat's ram management was better.
'Ang about, you are running a non-Samsung rom and you blame the memory usage in the device and not the ROM?

Please report your usage different roms and kernels so we maybe find out why.

God I hate that "cookie something" font so how come the ram usage of third party apps are different on stock vs. unofficial roms?

It is irrelevant but i hate it too )
Sometimes my ram usage decreasing but it is still too high. I envy htc s ram management...
