So I am a former Transformer Prime user and had constant GPS issues. So I finally just sent my Grey Prime 64gb back to amazon for a refund after ASUS was unable to correct the issues after an RMA.
Now I got an Infinity 64gb Grey from Best Buy with a C5 serial number. It had a large screen buldge (at the top) and slight light bleed on the bottom of the screen in 5-6 different places. So I got another one and it has slight screen buldges (again C5 serial) and even more light bleed.
I read another thread that said the C5 were early models. So I'm wondering if I order another from BestBuy if I'm going to get another C5 with manufacturing problems. Anyone have any insight to this?
I ordered the Infinity 64GB model from BB also, and got a C5 model. I'm tempted to contact ASUS and see if I can get a replacement directly b/c I don't feel like waiting on another tablet after having had mine for so long....
I just reverted mine from JB to ICS so I can root and use OTA Root keeper to get me through the OTA.
As far as light bleeding, can anyone with and without good models show me the difference, either in pics or video?
I have a C5 model as well, but I don't see any problems with the screen being anything other than flat, and only one 'blob' that might be light bleed on black screens, but other than that nothing...unless what I see as normal is, in fact, light bleed.

The light bleed on the two hasn't been extreme but definitely noticeable on a black screen. This has been frustrating trying to get a good tablet. I'm returning both to best buy tomorrow and going to wait for Amazon to have stock again. Best Buy has plenty of stock but they seem to be the older editions.
Also someone said something about the screen being substituted, anyone know if that is true?
No idea here. However, the screen is, as I said, flat.
I bought mine from BB only b/c of the 18 months same as cash deal....I cannot afford to outright buy one right now.
That's odd, I got mine several weeks before the official release (which is nearly a month before the US release, as Europe got it earlier) and it's a C06... Where the heck did they get C5's from, when C06 is the pre-release version?
I suspect you might actually have the beta product line. Suggest you return it and explicitly tell them to deliver a newer model, as you're not paying for a beta product.

I don't know.. Perhaps BB Online is down only to the C5. I am correct in understanding that C5XXXXX refers to the beginning of the serial number right? Because that's where I see the C5. That's how I remember it on the primes.
Yes, it's the serial number. C5XXXXXXXXX, C6- etc.
That could very well be the case. Is there a possibility to send them a message during the order? If so you can try to specifically request a higher serial number.
(And in my previous post my phone autocorrected the C6 to C06 because it thought I was typing a phonenumber. Ignore that, it's C6...)
I've had mine at exactly 30 days on Monday. I'll see about getting a replacement today.

Just a heads up: the Gtab is no longer on the website of tigerdirect in Canada or the US. Incidentally I doubt they sold all their stock: the local store here in London, Ontario had 5 as of yesterday (not counting the two that I returned for various hardware defects before getting a refund). Also, yesterday the TG website was showing "Buy today, ships today". Canadians should look for it for an even lower price now at places like factorydirect and XSCargo.
Maybe they are sold out?
Or maybe they started getting complaints that the software was buggy and that there was no way to fix it (the OTA updater just started working again in the last hour or so).
See my edit above. I doubt they ran out and I doubt it's a software issue because (at least in Canada) they would charge a 15% restocking fee if the item is not "defective" (which I understand to mean hardware). Having said that, given the crappy hardware I recieved not once but twice (damaged screen first time and sleep of death second time), I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not the only having hardware problems and that was what led them to pull it. Again, just speculating.
They are $280 again through woot. Search Amazon.
I bought mine from TD in Feb, I noticed they disappeared a few days after I made my purchase but then returned about a week later.. Could be they are sold out, they were selling for 299..

I don't think that any of the stores have sold out. 2 months ago I spoke to the manager at the Office Depot I go to and asked their opinion of the Viewsonic Tablets and since I have gone there for over a decade they said it is the most returned product they sell. They had hopes Viewsonic would be able to fix the problem but it has been months and still riddled with problems. I just got my tablet a few weeks ago and tried to keep it stock due to warnings and possible new update "any day now". But I got so many FC's and crashes I had to put a cusotm ROM on. Thanks to TNT Lite and Vegan modders I have had only 1 FC in the 1 week of the new ROM.
Viewsonic should just send all distributers a sticker to put on the Tablet boxes that says: Sorry but you will need to get a ROM upgrade from XDA, Slate,.... to have a fully functioning tablet"
Just last night my son actually played with the Gtab and could not believe how quick and responsive it is and easily played YouTube!

Great... just as I finally convinced myself to buy one and see the OTA updater works.
Anywhere else where we can buy those in Canada?
Sending mine for warranty already
Bought 2 gTablets, the first one is already going to warranty because one specific color (slightly off-white) is being displayed as a cyan color. sigh...
Hope the 2nd one doesn't go bust. I only had it for less than 3 weeks

Hi,
Just a counterpoint: I've had my Gtab (original) since late November, and have been on only stock since then. I did re-partition once to 2048/0, a long time ago, but the only times I've had problems w FCs was w the OOB initial firmware, and once when I installed an app (don't remember which one). The OTA update fixed the former, and doing Fix Permissions w CWM fixed the latter. I think that doing the re-partition early-on has saved me a lot of headaches, but stock has been stable for me.
Jim
I don't know if the earliertablets were better quality or not but I've also had my tab since November. Flashed almost all the roms on here and haven't had to nvflash yet (knock on wood). I did have to repartition the first time i tried bekkits cm based rom. Over the last six months have only seen one improvement after the next coming from the developers. Doesn't matter what your needs are there's a rom to fit them.
I ordered one through tigerdirect.ca and it seems to be coming from the USA through UPS. So who knows.
When they had the eBay sale last month, I picked one up. From that sale, they sold 376 of them. They may be sold out.
I actually have no trouble believing tigerdirect is pulling it due to high rate of returns. Let's admit it. For every person who wanders around and found xda, there are perhaps 10 others who never figured it out and were stuck with the stock rom. Without knowing about the repartition fix, a high number of them would eventually get FC's. The rest would be disappointed about not having google market because they never figured out how to fix market.
The gtab is a very fast and responsive tablet IFF you're willing to put some work into it. I've been fixing people's computers for years, and it's my experience that most users just don't want to bother with doing fixes.
This is the reason why I don't recommend the gtab to people. It's working just fine for myself and my elderly parents (and I'm a noobie with android modding). My elderly dad hasn't encountered a single issue other than calling me a few times to ask how to turn on the gps again (LOL).
If anything, the hype about the gtab should stop. We really don't need more whiners in our community. There should be a pinned thread telling people to go to buy an ipad.

It doesn't have a GPS...unless you're hooking one up externally through bluetooth.
What concerns me about the gtab is not the software issues, it's the hardware issues. From screens with dead pixels to sleep of death to problems with charger ports, it just seems like a cheaply built piece of equipment with no quality control. I wouldn't want people to get the wrong impression of android based on this tablet: I had a lot of fun playing with it and modding it. In the end, it's hardware issues that led me to return two consecutive gtabs. I'll be tenth in line to pick up the Asus Transform (after I read the reviews from the first nine early adopters )
I actually asked Tiger Direct if they were out of stock and this is their answer:
"Unfortunately the item is no longer available since the manufacturer already discontinued the item. Kindly call one of our sales representative at 800-800-8300 for further assistance in finding the comparable item."
I would say that is quite interesting. I guess it means Canadians are out of luck if we want a new unit...
So according to TD, the Gtab has been officially discontinued. Interesting...
I am not surprised to see that Viewsonic decide to discontinue the GTab. How could it compete with Asus Transformer? The other poster pointed out correctly, the GTab is rubbish with the stock ROM. People have to replace the ROM from day one and void the warranty. If I had known the price for the Transformer before I purchased the GTab, Viewsonic would have had one customer less now.

Sure, but most people that bought it knew that and were planning to use a custom ROM anyway. I know I wanted to (I always use custom ROMS on all my electronics whenever possible).
But it would definitely explain why the GTab was so cheap these days.

probably .
my response from Tigerdirect.ca:
"We do apologize for the inconvenience.
Unfortunately our records indicate that this item is on backorder and should be available within this week.
You can chose to wait for the item or you may also contact one of our sales representatives at 1.800.800.8300 for further assistance finding a comparable item. Thank you for your time and patience."
If anyone knows where to find any in Canada right now please let me know.
Thanks!!
I've read that there are still TF101s with excessive backlight bleeding and the like. Most of the defects don't seem particularly troubling, unlike the problems with the TFPrime. But my question is what are the chances of getting a unit that is quite defective? It's been months now and I'm hoping ASUS has ironed out most of the kinks in their production line...
I have 2 options available to me. Buy on ebay and have it shipped to me or buy locally. The local prices for the 16gb transformer with dock is around $645. But I would be able to see the unit and test it before buying it to check for defects. ebay prices are around $300-$450 and some of those are for the 32gb one. But I won't know what I'll get until it reaches me and it will be too much hassle to return it and wait and get another one that may or may not have the same problem...
Which one do I go for?
Each purchasing method has its pros and cons. Ebay has buyer protection, but of course something could go wrong and you never know when dealing with people and possibly used or refurbished devices. I bought two from Best Buy and they both work great with zero bugs. I then bought the dock on Amazon. This is what I would recommend since you can take it home right away and test it for issues, then take it right back if there are any.
Screen pixels and rooting issues aside I think most problems seem to come in early batches (ugh, ugh, fear the prime!). My B50/B60 tab/dock pair has been pretty good and I haven't seen to many killer issues being posted in a while, as newer batches push out.
Main thing that concerns me with buying online is no idea what point in time the unit was manufactured, especially e.g. on eBay.

im going to guess and say that a B90 is the latest model...that's the one I have. I guess you can ask the eBay seller to give you the model number...its on the box.
they are using hexadecimal for that second numbe after B90 is BA0 then BB0 and so on ive seen a BB0 device already a guy at school has it and i read about one here somewhere.
So which batch numbers do I avoid?
I would say at least <= B30 and idk about B40s.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I just received my 32GB TF101. It's a B60. I know it's the not the latest, but is that batch OK? I remember people saying to avoid B50.
Try buying from a brick and mortar store if you can first, that way you can test the unit for problems. Regardless of free return shipping or yada yada yada, it's still a hassle to have to ship something back to someone that never worked to begin with.
So I've been planning to purchase a transformer prime TF-201 for a while, and I was going to purchase it within the next few weeks. Now I'm finding information on this TF-700, whatever it is, but not enough to understand if it's a replacement or an upgrade or what?
Does anyone know about it?
Any details helpful
Cheers!

Basically it is a Transformer Prime that will have a higher resolution screen, 3G/LTE in some models and a slightly higher price tag. It also has a partially plastic back panel which should improve GPS and WiFi performance.
Is it worth waiting for? I'm a student, any information on the price range yet?

It will also have gorilla glass 2 on it. Price range being thrown around is $599 for 32gb and $699 for 64gb.
The processor is supposed to be a little faster and a higher resolution front facinf camera. It may not get as long of life for the battery, but the higher resolution, improved glass and hopefully better GPS and WIFI are a go for me.
I liked everything about my Prime except it seemed like the glass wasn't up to snuff, mine scratched while docked and also started micro cracking along the black bezel. So I sent it back waiting on this now.

not till end of June or july. Price, supposedly starts at $599 for 32gb wifi model. lte model much more expensive. Likely $699+data plan.
Prime is more than worth getting now. its the better deal.
I don't see the need for that high resulotion on a 10,1 tablet. The battery life will probably get worse unless they put in a bigger one. That's what apple had to do with the new lolpad anyway
I do however see the point of the plastic cover making wifi and gps better. I don't have any wifi issues myself on my "c2" prime but gps is not that good. But i don't use it anyway. Got gps built into my car and if i'm on foot looking for something i just use my phone

Depends on when you need a tablet, and if you need a higher resolution screen or 3g/LTE.
If you need/want a tablet right now, the Transformer Prime is excellent. If you don't it might be worth waiting for. The WiFi model is allegedly going to start off at $599 for the 32GB model, which would make the 64GB model priced at around $699.
The 3G/LTE models will probably start off at $699 for the 32GB model and go up from there. There is no solid info on what networks the 3G/LTE models will be compatible with and if they are carrier exclusive that will affect the price.
The TF Infinity is rated at 9 hours of battery life, instead of the 10 that the Prime is rated for. Also it will be pushing more pixels with only a slightly updates processor so performance wise it might be a little bit slower (WiFi model, anyway).
If Price is an issue, Asus is also releasing the Transformer Pad 300 which is nearly identical to the Prime, however it loses the Super IPS screen capability (its less bright at maximum screen brightness) and comes with only 16GB of internal storage. It also comes in brighter colors (red, blue & white) has a plastic back (which will improve WiFi and GPS) and a price tag expected to start at $399.
Nobody mentioned it is also a different proccesor.
It runs a 2 core snapdragon (if I remember right).
That brings up other issues.
I know the difference between 2 cores at "x" speed can be as fast or faster than 4 cores at "x" speed IF the code is written to take advantage of it. Remember that the 5 core Nvidia Tegra platform has a lot of support so I am hesitant to say this new one will be as fast.

Where din you get the info about it being launched only in June-July? I am currently looking around for a tablet and I am oscillating between the TF201, the iPad3 and the TF700T and I would go for the latter but only if I can buy it around May...
You have to guarantee that the TF-700 is really going to be released in June/July. If I remember correctly the TF-201 was supposed to be released in November, but it wasn't really available in the UK until February. If this happens again, you might have to wait until September/October for the new tablet.

The rumors indicated that the TF700T will be launched in the June/July time frame. However there has been no official word from Asus on the matter, and even if they are "released" in June/July they might be in very short supply for several months after that.
The TF Prime was technically released in November, but most retailers are just now starting to get a steady stock of them.

To be honest I'm having trouble finding a prime in the UK anyway. I mean I'm in London and I can't even find a store with a bloody display model so I can play with it before I actually buy it. I can find it online without a problem usually but every bloody shop that sells the prime out here only has online delivery. Does anyone know of any shops in London who hold stock in-store so I can use one?
Cheers.
only if you have a Gamestop store that carries tablets. possibly Bestbuy should have them. maybe an office depot.

I definitely second that thought. Prime is the undisputed king of tablets right now and by the time TF700 comes out, the competition will be much tougher (other Tegra3 tablets or windows tablets). There are a lot of uncertainties coming with the TF700 also. No guarantee on the exact launch date, and like everybody mentioned, Asus is quite inacurate when it comes to precise dates. No guarantee that the battery life will be as awesome. No guarantee that the plastic cover will totally erase the issues with GPS and Wifi performance.

Joncy...your best bet is to pop into a currys as they have them on display when theyu have stock and they should be ablt to check on their systems to see which shops have them in stock. PC World (same group) can also do the same, but for some reason the staff do not seem as interested or as helpful as the currys staff!!
I don't know if carphone warehouse shops have any on display in their shops but if there is one locally it might be worth a punt!!
The other option is to get one from ebuyer or Amazon and use the 7 days distance selling regs to try out the TFP...the trouble with this option is that it will cost you 500 sovs for the pleasure and given that amount of testing time you might be more tempted to keep it once you have played with it.
Remember there are far more happy punters out there than unhappy ones.
One little tip is that when booting for the first time you might think that there is light bleed (I did) but once it is fired up and displaying whatever, this is nowhere near so visible.
Good luck
Andy

I would suggest you wait for the 700. The 700 is going to replace the Prime no matter what other people tell you. For $100 more you are getting a higher res screen, option of LTE for another 100, and wifi and gps that actually function. If it weren't for Prime owners complaining, ASUS would've slipped the Prime under the rug like it never happened. There is no reason for ASUS to have so many lines of products with such minor differences.
Also, because of the aluminum backing, the Prime has significantly crippled wifi range. The range is weaker than my 3 year old Sony x10 phone. So if your University is like mine in which the wifi isn't the greatest everywhere on campus then that might become a problem.

Hey guys,
Sorry if you've seen alot of posts like this. I've tired to look around for information and I couldn't get a clear answer. My issue is:
I just got the Nexus 5, and its loaded with green stuck pixels, so I called Google Customer support to see if I could get an exchange. They told me about the RMA process. I was sent a link to re-order the phone, with a shipping time of '3-4 weeks' mind you. But my main question that no one answered for me was simple... Do I get a brand new retail model? With new box, charger and cable? or do i get a replacement model similar to Apple. Can someone help me out and let me the answer to this.
You get a brand new phone with box and accessories.
Since this is the first post I've seen on rma, I think you have more answers than anyone else. But I'm going to be watching just on case I run into any issues.
If it's like the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, you get a brand new phone if you have an issue in the 12 month warranty. Only if it's bought from the Play Store, obviously.
This phone just came out. How wil they find a refurbished for you lol of course you will get brand new.
Just because a device is brand new doesn't mean that a company hasn't made 'service' models for replacement... I.E Apple..
Let me know how it goes please. I've just noticed 7 or 8 dead pixels (black) dotted around my screen. I'm gonna call up tomorrow and see what they say.
Just sent the phone back to be RMA'd. Google paid for the shipping, used the box that it came in. I'm really ticked off though. I honestly can't believe that Google doesn't have any phones set a side for defects or customer issues. Its crazy that now I have to wait 3-4 weeks to get my replacements device. I'm not saying that I'm more important than folks who ordered the device later or anything, but geez. I am happy though I'm getting a brand new device (I hope, the jury is still out if it will be brand new , we can only go off what google has done in the past with other RMA's). Google, there has to be a better way...

I am happy though I'm getting a brand new device (I hope, the jury is still out if it will be brand new , we can only go off what google has done in the past with other RMA's). Google, there has to be a better way...

When I've done replacements in the past (and yes, replacements during the 15-day return period are new devices), I've waited until the replacement device arrived before sending back the first unit. Did they tell you to send in your device immediately? That's odd, because they place a hold on your credit card to be sure you send the original back once they've sent the replacement--doesn't make much sense to place a hold if you send back the original first.
Yea, I was told the same. But I figured since I was off today, might as well get it done. I have a phone I can use until then

Gotcha. I've preferred to wait just to make sure the replacement isn't worse than the original.

I thought the same. But I figured with all the stuck pixels. I'll take my chances. I want to be happy for 399 or 450 with tax and shipping out of pocket.
LG should have it figured out by now. A couple pixels on 50 inch screen, ok I get it ... It's the type of technology. But come on. The display is 5 inches. That's a small slice from a T.V. And Apple is no different. Same issues with pixels. I don't want to watch a movie, or look at a photo with a bright green dot in the corner or center of the screen.

I called in today about stuck pixels on my phone too. I didn't get an RMA email yet though. So basically you get a link and you just order a phone from the Play Store as if you were buying for the first time?

when I rma'ed by nexus4 that was how it was. The link bring you to a checkout page in google (play or wallet i forgot) and you can select shipping as well which I believe is no extra cost (i picked two day)
I've since then requested a return slip via Amazon since I saw a dead pixel last night while watching a video. When the video cut to a black screen, I noticed a tiny little blue dot that was not part of the video. I've confirmed it via some pixel checker apps and it is indeed a dead pixel. This is somewhat an eye opener as to the quality of this phone. I love the phone, but the hardware and even customer support lacks a lot. I've sent numerous emails to customer support with no reply back. And it wasn't even about anything major. It's not just the dead pixel that sparked this thought about returning the phone. As many have said, the tap to wake feature is iffy and only works when it wants.
I'm afraid to try my chances again with this phone, but I've been back to the basics of researching into another device. Gut instincts should've went with the HTC One M9. But the amazing price of this phone was hard to pass up. For anybody who has since returned this phone (and hopefully still lurk this subforum) could you let me know why you returned it and which phone you got to replace it? I might press my luck again and buy it again once I receive my refund. Hoping I get one from another recent batch.
Just an update...I sent back the phone today to Amazon for a full refund and in the meantime I ordered another one just so I can get a replacement quicker rather than having to wait 2-6 days for my refund to show up then order another one, but this time I placed an order through Alcatels main website and during checkout it asked me to select shipping speed and there was Standard, 2 day and 1 day, and for the hell of it I wanted to see how much 1 day shipping was and the total said it was 0.00 and the final cost was still only $249.99 which is the main cost of the phone. I was able to successfully place my order with the 1 day shipping method for 0.00. Not sure if my order will still go through but it will be interesting to see.
You should've stuck with Amazon tho, because if something else happens it easier to go thru Amazon for return then thru Alcatel

Yeah I thought about that after I purchased through Alcatel. Thing is, the phone was shipped via Amazon and it even said so during the checkout process. So if anything goes wrong I might still be able to return it hassle free.

You will not be able to return through Amazon so easily. That's what happened to me when I got this for my wife. We actually had to go through a ton of freaking hoops(according to my wife) to make it happen.
We were supposed to send it straight to alcatel and wait 3 weeks. My wife did her thing (whatever that is) and was able to have them do it through Amazon.

Hmm. Well hopefully this replacement phone won't have any flaws. Right away I noticed the box was in better condition than the last one and it seems the speakers are louder. I must've got one from a new batch because I didn't have to install the startup update since it came preinstalled already. So its a newer device it seems. Oh well. Thanks for your input I'll remember that if I ever have to return it again.

Amazon sucks balls when it comes to getting packages in good condition. Every single thing that I have purchased from them this year so far has come in an extremely damaged box. UPS does not give a crap for sure!!!

I rarely order directly from Amazon's fulfillment just based on their rule of ordering $35 or more for free shipping if I wanted something for only $10. I usually go the third-party route who offer free shipping with reliability. But since Alcatel only uses Amazon's fulfillment center, I had no choice. But yeah my first Idol 3 box was smashed in the corner and had weird water stain marks on the front and sides. I had a feeling it was going to be a defective unit just from the box.
