So here is a tricky situation. My infuse was stuck on a bootloop i used a jig and the it continued to reboot. I read somewhere that it is possible that i have a bad power button. I took it apart and un soldered the power button and used the jig to turn it on, went straight into download mode and didnt re boot. I thought my nightmare was over, as I went to solder back on the power button the leads coming off the board broke, not the leads on the power button itself but the actually physical point of contact on the board. I tryed using some flux and cleaning it really well to see if i could get some solder to stick but nothing would work. I talked to one of the engineers here at work he said Im pretty much out of luck, because the leads to that run inside the board between the layers and if it breaks off there is no way to re attach it. I just want it to work even if i have to run 2 tiny wires to some other point on the board and use a tiny tact switch im creative i could get it to work if i had somewhere to solder the button leads to. I understand there might not be anything i can do but does anyone have any ideas?
If you guys need a picture i can provide one, any help is greatly appreciated.
same problem

I had to jump over some stupid fence today at my work (didn't want to go all the way around), so i asked my friend to hold my universal while i jumped.
maybe i should have held it myself, because the universal slipped from her hands, and fell down the 3 story building, hitting many many stairs on the way down.
from a first glance i thought its the end of my beautiful relationship with my uni.
but actually after opening it up and checking its insides - it looks pretty okay! nothing seems to be broken or loose...
the problem is: is won't even start. so im trying to discover where malfunction is.
i've tried:
Switching batteries
Plugging it in to a power source (computer / wall)
Dismantling body and screen, tightening all of the connectors
Bootloader mode - not showing anything
Connecting with MTTY - but i can't even get it to connect
Turned on, waited for 5 mins and called it to see if it'll ring (to eliminate screen problems) - forwards to voicemail
Nothing worked, the screen is always blank.
when i plug in a power source, a red light flashes REALLY quickly, and then goes off, after that nothing happens.
the only thing that gave me a clue its still alive somewhere inside - when i plugged it to my computer, windows alerted me i plugged in an unknown device, even when i tried to put it in BL and connect again.
Does anyone have a clue what i can do next to find where the problem lies, and bring my love back to life???
please, i need help on this.
Mine fell a few feet from my hand to the (concrete) floor and was the same - no signs of trauma but completely dead, aside from a light when connected to the charger.
I think the damage will be to the mainboard, so it's a either a case of getting a new board and fitting it, or buying another universal and selling the dead one for parts. I opted for the latter.
My Condolences!! as long you can not find some lose cable or what so ever I believe you will not able to bring your "love" back to alive.
After connecting to your Computer RED light and Your computer doesn't recognize the Device indicates major issue.
Unless you have someone that can work with JTAG. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309291
hehe, thanx for your replies.
i don't know anyone who deals with jtag, but maybe it'll be a good idea to look for a private repair lab which works with jtag.
i guess for a small amount of money they could help me find the problematic part.
i wanted to avoid sending it over to a some random repair lab, because they might turn out as just some amatures and tell me that the whole main board needs to be replaced, instead of a specific part...
so i'll start with some searching
anyone else have any more suggestions?
mine fell from my pocket and red led pops up only when connected to the charger.. i sent it to ppctechs.. they put it under the infrared oven and nothing happened, so its not lose solder nor connectors nor nothing.. its the mainboard, its hard for it to be replaced as far as component level goes.. but who knows.. personally i think just sell it for parts.. sorry, thats what i did and boutght a new one off ebay for 400
good luck and sorry to hear that..
Am I allowed to cry on this forum ????
One request to Modes... Shall we have a crying smily(?)
Hey you all! The last couple weeks i had an issue with a couple Infuse mobos i have in here. Did everything i can on hand to try to repair the infamous reboot loop on my Infuse but had no success. The thing is that i even applied UnbrickableMod to one of them thinking that may solve it and had no luck. If you try the JIG it will get into download mode but it will reboot again.
Guess what???? I found the trick, the issue is something very common on the Samsung Galaxy Captivate, the Power Button! Yeah! Just like that, what i did was that i took one of the 2 motherboards i had with that same issue and removed one of the volume buttons in it, and replaced the Power Button on the other non working motherboard, It was my only hope. And it worked!!!!!!!!!! . So i think i will help a bunch of people in here because ive read many people trying to solve this exact same issue.
So if someone knows where they sell those power buttons i will be very happy because so far i had no luck on Ebay or any other place where they sell those buttons. There you have the solution for your problem, if you can find a place to send it to be replaced do so. I have the tools and the skill set to do it on mines so i just need somewhere to buy the Button. If someone knows please post it in here so i can order it........

Is it just that the button is stuck down? If that's the case then you could probably take the phone apart and just clean that button (space around it) so that it no longer gets stuck...never taken an infuse apart so I have no idea if that would work...but I did take my vivid apart today and changed the color of the capacitive buttons cause there was nothing for me to flash and I was going through withdrawals lol
I'll keep a look out for those kind of spare parts tho and ill let you know if I find any

Well M8, that could be a good idea. The problem is that at least on my phone the button felt just fine. Like i said, i did that as the very last option, but it worked. So it means that the power button someway, somehow is givin up. Maybe its a good idea to clean it. But for the moment im looking for those power buttons so i can replace the ones on the mobo i took the one i used. And now i need 2 of them at least(the volume button and the power button).
Just a thought, if you guys have a JIG, an easier solution can be applied, you can just desolder the power button out. And from there on, anytime you need to power on the phone you just have to insert the jig for a second and the phone will power on like that. Thats of course way better than having the phone acting like its bricked.... Just be careful when desoldering that you dont mess with the soldering points in case you find a button to replace it.
EDIT: The battery should be inside the phone when doing so, its not like when youre trying to get the phone on download mode!
Here ya go...

Hey man- Just wanted to give you this link on a place I found to buy the buttons- kinda at a steep price but hey. I have a question though. soon as I disconnected the power button on mine it stopped the loop and started acting normal (as normal as it can with no power button). So I made an attempt to solder on the new one. Guess what- I think i did something wrong or am a beginner at soldering because I still cant get it to turn on. Can you give me a quick go around on soldering one of these power buttons or is you maybe have a youtube tutorial?
Thank you!

can u pls help me
i don't know what is the problem, is it hardware or software problem?!
Been a watcher on the forums for awhile, now I actually had to sign up and get some help, LOL.
Anyway, dropped my s2 skyrocket, noticed that it kept trying to reboot every now and then when I used it the same day. The next day, I plugged it in in the evening, and shut off, rebooted, but the screen would go black and the phone would vibrate with 2 seconds in between vibrations. It gets to the "Samsung" word, then the screen goes black in the style of an old tube TV (with the thin white line at the end). Then the vibrations start. So far a useless phone. Took it apart and checked connections carefully (I'm used to working with processor boards quite a bit).
What do you guys suggest? Damaged memory? Should I attempt to reflash? Stuck power button (seemed ok, though)? Bad screen?
Well, probably some kind of physical damage, but hard to say. Anyway, you posted in the forum for SGH-I777 but you have the SGH-I727, so I would suggest that you look in the correct forum.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. Yeah I just figured out that the i727 isn't in "Top Devices" or "Legacy," so you have to go to all forums. Ugg. Already moved. Thanks to whoever notified mod.
Anyway, yeah, any help would be AWESOME. What physical damage would prevent booting past the "Samsung" screen and default to a black screen that intermittently vibrates?
I'll be honest, if ur asking that question probably something u don't have the current skill set to fix. Try to Odin back stock, but if it started post-drop you may be SOL and in need of a new phone.
Got it into download mode after multiple failed attempts. Each time I would get it into download mode, the screen would shut off after about 5 seconds of being on. I tried several combinations of plugging it in first, then installing the battery, or holding down the button while I plugged it in with no battery, etc. I had just given up after getting it into download mode briefly for the 20th time, when I gave it one more go while rocking the on and off button. Technically that is recovery mode, but I let off right before plugging the phone in and it hit download mode and stuck.
So what I am thinking is the power button got jammed internally. I have heard of it happening on other forums. Even though it looks good and clicks upon external examination, the pressure circuit on the inside might be in contact. Anyway, just one theory.
For future though, I did discover that you don't HAVE to have the USB unplugged prior to getting into download mode. On the contrary, a power source must be present in order to register that the keys are pressed PRIOR to initiating USB input. Thus, you can actually remove the battery, plug in the USB (power source), then hold the volume keys while replacing the battery. Goes into download mode that way, too.
Will keep you guys updated. Might need a bit more help if the phone starts acting up again.
At this point, if the Download mode still holds ok, should I consider CyanogenMod, or is it easier to get back a good ROM from stock?
icenight:
Thanks for the reply. I don't understand much about smart phones or how they work, but trust me when I say I have had AMPLE experience with electronics, circuit boards, hardware, etc., particularly in the computer/laptop world. I code quite a bit of websites, and understand almost all things networking and OS. Just never really got into it with the phones.
Getting super excited to see the sheer amount of modding you can do though. Would love to break into a hardware modding world if it ever comes available. That's where it's at with electronics for me.
Well glad u got it sorted, lucky guy you are lol.
As for boards and the like, if it didn't work I would've suggested replacing the motherboard and/or power daughter board. But for a skyrocket may not be worth the money.
Since you're a hardware guy, maybe mess around with the phone and JTAG? Finding a way to unbrick without it would be very helpful
Since the problems started after a physical damage (fall) , I wonder how would Odin or wipe and flash might work !
Definitely a hardware damage...
Yeah, it kinda puzzled me, too. I believe the power button might have been internally stuck, but that's just one idea. Could have been a loose connection, too.
Can you lose some solid state memory with firmware on it, but the SS memory still be OK to right another copy on?
More than likely it was your power button

Hi,
My nexus 5 constantly reboots at the google logo. I think it is a power button problem.
I bought my nexus 5 from the google play store but I do not live in the US, so RMAing it would be difficult.
So is there any way I can fix it? I tried tapping on the power button on the mother board but it didn't help.
Thanks!

I think your phone is soft-bricked... Try to boot into custom recovery, factory reset, and reflash a custom rom.

I have the same issue but I cannot get into recovery or anything else. There is not enough time before the phone reboots again. I have read of people having success but it seems rather rare. The strange thing is that I can press or tap (with luck) on the back of the phone, near the power button, and the phone will turn on. I am sure this is a hardware issue but I got mine from T-Mobile and my bootloader is unlocked and on Android 5.0. The bad thing is that I am now able to JUMP! and was looking at the Nexus 6... oh the humanity!
On an side note: When pressing on the back of the phone (see above) repeatedly I was able to get the phone to fully boot but once I quit it rebooted again. I have not been able to repeat this as of yet. I am leaving it on the charger and hoping that it will somehow right itself like other have reported... that is unless anyone has any suggestions.

I agree. I took the phone apart and messed with the components but nothing has changed. When I was able to get the phone to book all the way up "Power off" appeared as if I were pressing the button. I am not sure how to fix this.... I am sure that T-Mobile will not cover the warranty since it is unlocked.

it should be a relatively inexpensive fix at any local repair shop. or you can try repairing it yourself, can probably find a youtube vid about it.

I have not found a video, yet. I tore it down as far as I could but I will keep searching. I am 99% sure that it is hardware related but I don't think that T-Mobile will swap it out or let me use my JUMP! because of the unlocked bootloader. I knew I should have relocked it when I put 5.0 on it!!!!

you still can, its very simple. in fastboot.. fastboot oem lock. or if you have root, the boot unlocker for nexus devices app. you can lock or unlock the bootloader with the app, if you have root. personally, i dont think they would even know about the bootloader being unlock.

The issue is that the phone reboots about every 2 seconds making it impossible to make a connection through ADB, recovery, or anything else. I did, however, find a solution/idea on a post by "nadrojcote":
"For the last week or so my power button/lock button has been intermittent, sometimes having to hit it 5 times or so to get the screen to unlock. Yesterday it all of a sudden stopped working and I couldn't unlock.
I am making this post to share my fix I found for the problem. Seeing how my phone is not under warranty because I have already replaced the screen, I took to tearing it apart and seeing what's going on. Hoping I could order a new power button, unfortunately the button is soldered onto the main board. Upon taking it apart I realized I had put a little shim in between the power button and the plastic button in the housing as a "rattle fix". This is what I am thinking caused the problem, this caused me to be putting too much pressure on the power button and caused it to over time break apart the back of the actual buttons metal housing on the main board. I removed the shim and it still did not work. I was going to take the main board and heat it at a low heat in the oven in hopes to reseat solder points, but before I did that I tried using a fine pair of needle nose pliers to crimp the back housing of the button back together. Luckily this worked. Unfortunately I do not have pictures, but if someone else has the same issue you should be able to see what I'm referring to by comparing the power button to the volume buttons on the mainboard, there is a metal housing around the actual button that is soldered to the main board, it has a slit down the back side of it that allows it to spread apart. The volume keys should be tight.
THE PROBLEM: Power/Lock button stops working
THE CAUSE(assumed): Nexus 5 power/lock button rattle fix
THE FIX: Using needle nose pliers to crimp the metal backing of the power button housing good and tight.
I hope this helps others out in the future as I'm sure I wont be the only one with this problem."
Now, I did not have a loose power button and so did not mod it. I did however take the phone apart and pull the board out. On the back of the board, opposite of the power switch, if an aluminum(?) case which can be removed. Under this there is another aluminum housing with a circle in the middle of it. The circle was somewhat bent touching the board parts below so I carefully bent the circle up. Next I gave the power switch a few "gentle" taps and pressed the casing around the switch to hopefully make it tighter as was recommended by "nadrojcote."
As you can tell from my word use, I am no where near an expert on anything electric BUT my phone is now working. I have not put it back together yet but I am in the process of restoring it to factory and locking the bootloader in case I need to send it in. I have sent some major prayers to God today! (If you do not believe in God you don't have to say anything negative about my post... just carry on)
This happens to me always to restart device
There is a solution to this?
What this fire button solution problem?
Who tried to replace power-on button to know is% 200 percent of the problem?
So I have been using nexus 5 from the start and a few months ago the phone started showing some weird signs.
It was shutting down every time I used the power button and if I tried to turn it on it would turn back off.
So I remapped the volume button as a power on and power off and even installed a custom ROM. It was all working perfectly , I was using volume button to turn on the screen. Sometimes I even used power button for screenshot and no problem.
But yesterday my phone just gave up one me.
It will go up to the google screen and then just stay there .
So I thought it was because of the aosp ROM so I managed to go into twrp recovery , wiped everything including system and flashed the stock image of marshmallow .
It did turn on and reached till the setup and page and then again turned off.
So now sometimes it does turn on goes to google screen and then shuts down.
I am able to go into bootloader mode by pressing volume down and power button .
But the damn phone won't go past google screen
Sometimes it does then it again turns off.
Does anyone knows what is happening?
Ive Been having same problem. Couldnt access factory reset Via recovery says only "No command".

I did open up my phone and cleaned it but it didn't work.
Are u sure about that?
I read somewhere on reddit that because of not using the nexus charging cable sometimes the boot ic gets damaged. Can that be the case?
It's the switch. Very common problem, I recently bought a 5-pack of the switches and replaced the one on my wife's phone.
How did you clean it? Did you use a bit of spray solvent in it (there are YouTube videos on this). Cleaning with solvent also did not work for me.
If you don't have the tools + experience needed, DO NOT TRY TO REPLACE THE SWITCH YOURSELF! The switch is smaller than a grain of rice and you can damage the phone.
It took me three tries - one of them I dropped the switch and lost it, one I bodged the soldering and had to remove the new item. My soldering iron is not the greatest but at least it has temperature control and I have multiple tips for it. The ground plane of the board that the switch solders to wicks a lot of heat and that makes it hard to get the old one off, the tiny through holes are very hard to clear.
So I suggest that you will need someone who has experience and the correct tools for soldering surface mount components for this job.
