"probably most important is that Qualcomm chipset based Samsung devices should now be supported! If you don’t know whether your device has a Qualcomm chipset, if you’ve got one of those crazy U.S. telco specific variants, then chances are your phone is using a Qualcomm chipset."
I verified it does work by flashing cwm 6.0.1.2 and the HD modem:

It's great to be able to report it! I can't tell you how much I've missed heimdall every single day since I switched from the Epic4G Touch to this phone (a whole week ago!).

It DOES the same thing, but it isn't the same thing. First of all, Odin is a Windows app. Secondly, Odin can't let you choose which parts of a ROM zip or tar you flash, it just flashes the whole thing.
Heimdall is the only option for the *nix user. And it's great.
I read the link you posted and didn't understand dang thing.
Why would a novice like me need this? I'm just out of newbie status (self proclaimed) and can't see needing this. I'm just trying to learn so please, any simplification available?

You're average rom flasher won't need it. Basically your system is made up of several parts that partitioned with certain info. Normally in Odin you'd flash a system image that would write to everything weather you like it or not, what this does is let's you pick what you want to install from the full image. Most rom flashers don't even use Odin unless they are recovering from a soft brick that corrupts their recovery or something of that sort. 99% of people just flash in cwr (or some other on phone recovery) and don't need it. So does this really mean anything to most people? Not really, but more options are always better so I'm not complaining

I believe Mobile ODIN also allows you to fkash individual partitions. I've never had the need to try it, so I can't confirm. But the option looks to be there .

As a Mobile Odin pro user I can confirm that it does in fact flash individual partitions including Kernel, Recovery, System, Data, Cache and Modem! It also has the ability to PRE-ROOT! OTA's before flashing them saving your device being unrooted during the OTA flash process!
It's creator, Chainfire was on the ball with this one. And best of all unlike regular Odin you don't need a PC at all.
Mobile Odin sounds cool to be sure. I just came to this phone from the SII Epic 4G Touch on Sprint. There were like daily leaks of ICS that contained modem updates too. It was really easy to untar the .md5 and use heimdall to flash just the modem.bin.
Plus, a lot of people blamed the crappy Sprint service for corrupted downloads so I got to where I didn't even try to download to the phone, just to my linux workstation and flash from there.
I guess I'll either have to learn to do it from source or wait for a binary to come out. Stupid Mac not having Odin lol.

Hello I see lots of people having problems with odin. So I would like to introduce Heimdall. It's not new but seems to be forgotten. Heimdall is more manual then odin. With heimdall you have to unzip the odin file and put them into the proper spots. They are labeled with the files extensions that should go there. It comes with the drivers heimdall use which is different then odin drivers. Please use heimdall it should work better then odin. Here is the website that will also help http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ video added too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TgyaUbjcm4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

i gotta say i only use heimdall now, after having various issues with odin (mostly of my own doing)
but really heimdall is a superior tool as you can selectively flash different parts of a tarball and see actually what you are flashing
and if you want to change your boot image (not the boot ani, but what is currently "samsung") you have to flash hacked paramfs which you need heimdall for too
I have not been able to get Heimdall to work yet. I did d/l the file and opened it on my MAC running Snow Leopard but when I tried to run it fails to open and it says its an incomplete install, removed, reinistalled and same issue. I d/l the latest version 1.1.1 from the site you posted, I will try again tonight.

Nope, doesn't work on my MacBook Pro, command line or front-end, with the Charge. I've used older versions of heimdall on my i9000 and my friend's Vibrant without issues.
With the Charge I get "Failed to detect compatible device".
Installed suite, reinstalled suite, rebooted MacBook Pro.
Searching now, but any suggestions appreciated.

Yeah, never been a problem before. Guess I better check it against my old i9000.
I installed the 1.1.1 OSX Suite, which supposedly installs the codeless kext (drivers) per heimdall's home page. Reinstalled it twice. Rebooted twice. Still no go.
Running out of time to screw around with it before work, guess I'll have to play later today.
thank you for the info and the how to video. I will try it tonight. I also have Win7 on my Mac so I can always go that route if necessary. The issue I am having is Heimdall won't actually run at all, it appears to be installing incorrectly or not fully.

Heimdall as I have it set up can talk to my i9000 without problems, but the Charge keeps failing with "no compatible device found".
Gonna have to find a frickin' windows box to use Odin. Ugh.
Hello Droid Charge users,
I've just released a new Heimdall command line binary (version 1.2.0). I haven't mentioned it really because it's untested, however I've added some functionality to Heimdall that should get your devices recognised. That in conjunction with the new PIT file functionality should mean you're good to go.
As usual the binaries can be download from the official Heimdall page.
Let me know how you go.
Thank you for the release

Thanks for thinking of we Charge owners.
Downloaded, installed, rebooted. The command line still won't work for me either with the Charge. I get a "Claiming interface... Failed!" message.
Getting pretty frustrated at this point. Never had problems on this Mac with heimdall from the early days and the i9000.

I appreciate your help, but I feel like we're going in circles.
There are no "drivers" for OS X on the official Web site, unless you mean the kext that is included in the install of the various heimdall versions.
I've already tried version 1.1.1 and 1.2.0 on two different Macs now, and neither one will work with either the front-end (which is what the trick you posted addresses) or the command line. Both Macs can communicate with an i9000 with Heimdall.
So please, which version is working for you? Perhaps something older than 1.1.1?
I may have a screwy Charge, I can't even get Odin on my friend's XP laptop to recognize the Charge (and yes, I am in Download Mode with the yellow android shoveling).
I've literally spent 5 hours on three different computers screwing around with this today. I have never been this unsuccessful or frustrated with an Android phone on Macs, and I'm not noob to Odin or Samsung, I've had i9000 and Vibrant working on all these machines with Odin and heimdall.
i do mean kext. im on 1.1.1. I use the term drivers as i have a laptop on ubuntu a computer with windows and finally a mac pro

Thanks, well, I am at a complete loss then.
I've finally gotten heimdall to recognize the Charge on a WinXP laptop, but it won't actually flash anything, fails after downloading the PIT off the phone. Posting here, but think should be discussed in the actual heimdall thread so will post there as well:

ok i see since it has been so long since all the rogers development started people dont really remember about all the rainbow problems and how they were fixed and how the fix needs source code.
we now have bootloaders available in leaks from samsung. they are needed with the stock kernels that come in the leaks to avoid rainbow garbage. i am providing the bootloaders to be flashed in heimdall without having to flash a whole rom.
i would like to make this explicitly clear that if this bricks your phone i am not to blame. there is a significant risk when flashing bootloaders! though the infuse seems to have safety measures i strongly recommend only flashing once. and if your phone becomes a brick you will need to solder things to the phone to fix it via j-tag or adam outlers unbrickable mod. be cautious! dont flash boot.bin without sbl.bin, dont flash sbl.bin without boot.bin, dont mix up the partitions, and if the phone bricks i dont want to know about it unless you want to pay me to fix it!
heimdall package

odin package (untested)

bootloaders for heimdall to be added through the "flash" tab (unzip first! ibl/pbl-boot.bin, sbl-sbl.bin)

do you know if there its any difference in bootloaders amongst different gingerbread leaks?
I have been running the first leaked gingerbread's bootloaders since Prezkit gave them to us and have had zero issues. I think it was kk1? I've been taking an "if it ain't broke" stance. its going good!

there is difs. but I couldn't tell you what. I saw posts by Linux bozo who did binary diferencials but I don't see any difference.
I know the bootloaders have a counter for customer kernels. if you flash the parameters.ifs from the ultimate unbrick it resets it. I also know they changed the galaxy s 2 bootloaders so it was harder to reset the counter so don't expect to be able to reset it when the official update comes along. I also have been using the "if it ain't broke " theory and honestly don't remember which I am using. the packages here are uckk3. if people can test if the counter can still be reset by flashing param.ifs let me know. ill post older bootloaders if it can't otherwise I can't think of any reason to pick one over another.
If i am flashing the bootloaders via odin does the .tar file go in the pda slot. thank you for this.

yes. that's how I would do it. the PDA slot seems to be automatic as far as partition sorting. the phone slot is for modems but if a modem is included in a package for the PDA slot it flashes just fine. the bootloaders are in the PDA packages normally so that's how I would do it.
please report results because I don't run windows and did not test that package.
I will report back once i get around to flashing the bootloaders. Thanks again for this.

don't select repartition, no need for a pit, the rom shouldn't matter, the file should go in the PDA slot. remember I haven't tested it in Odin. I don't run windows and have little interest in using Odin for anything. phone needs to be in download mode just like flahong a rom. it should only take a second or two to flash. good luck
Cool i should be able to figure this out. Thanks for the quick response.
It didn't work. I had auto restart, f.reset and the PDA slot checked after i opened the file in the PDA slot and after clicking start it just sat at setup for 45 min until i gave up and flashed back to stock. I had to pull the cord while in download mode and the screen turned black with green dots so i had to flash blindly. I tried it twice and the same thing. Has anyone else tried this?

I have a bunch of downloads but nobody reported anything at all till now.
ill pull the Odin version for now. try it in heimdall. its not any harder to use.
Can you post an odin package.
I had an Odin package. I got a few downloads, didn't get any people thanking for it, didn't get any positive feedback that it worked and had one user report problems, see the last couple posts. I pulled the file for lack of evidence that it worked. I don't run windows and prefer heimdall so I haven't tested it in Odin. sorry but I suggest you either flash an entire rom leak then flash a non secure kernel through Odin ( any custom kernel should do also flashing back to stock should also do just fine) and then flash a rom or learn heimdall which works on windows as well as Mac and Linux. I would have done a oneclick package but it still requires the installation of the heimdall back end and I figured it was really no harder to just use the heimdall package system.
any chance of relink thats not at multiupload?
edit: disregard, found a workaround. might be useful in future tho.
Having a rather annoying problem.
I decided to give the ICS leak a try, and did as instructed: Cleaned the cache & system files in recovery after making a backup, booted into download mode, used Odin to install the ICS Leak. Everything was working flawlessly. Booted back into download mode to install CWM Recovery. After about 5 minutes of nothing happening, my computer BSOD'ed on me with a memory leak error.
Here's where the problem started; I rebooted my phone, and the download mode was different, the "error" version:
"ODIN MODE
Product Name: SGH-I727
Custom Binary: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I've looked into it extensively, and tried several different methods. The first thing I tried was uninstalling the drivers on my computer, restarting, installing the drivers again, and reisntalling. Than I tried using the stock tar file for Odin. BDOD occurred with the same error.
Tried switching USB ports and USB cable, and doing the above again, but the same BSOD occurred.
I've also tried just flashing the stock Kernel, and again the same thing.
I've tried about 8, maybe 9 different methods. I've never had a BSOD on this computer (Asus G73SW running Windows 7). I'm not sure if I'm just having really bad luck, or doing something wrong, but I could really use some new recommendations on what to try. :/
Thanks!
Try a different computer. I can't see any reason ODIN would cause a BSOD. Has to be something on ur machine. Try killing everything on startup and disable any AV and give it another try.
<insert witty signature here>
I made the silly mistake of not checking the md5 when flashing ics. Got the same error. I had an incomplete version that was malfunctioning. Dont worry, its fixable. First off, use a different pc.Download the ics one click and flash again. Once running flash root with odin. The important thing is to use a different pc (its probably not odin)
Also, this is a dev section. Odds are this will be closed. Next time post in general or Q&A.

This package will install ATT's SGH-I997 GingerBread UCLB3 to your Infuse 4g.
This package is intended for use on AT&T Network, however it may work with any network if you reset APN. (I have no experience with other networks)
This package includes:
Repartitioning: Repartition to stock UCLB3
Reloading: IBL/PBL, PARAM, SBL, SBL2, Kernel, Recovery, FactoryFS and modem
formatting:Cache and DBdata
This package does not wipe:
EFS(Where your serial number and carrier information is stored)
Data(where your market apps are stored)
SDCard (where your pictures are stored)
How can you use this package?
1. To cleanly install the latest ATT Infuse UCLB3 Gingerbread leak. No hassle One-Click. Then enjoy the lastest leak of Infuse GB.
2. To Restore your phone to factory state.
3. To Restore your phone from boot loops, Samsung Logo, Soft Brick - non-hardware related failures from bad flashes, borked partitions or mismatch voodoo partitions. (I suspect many users will use it for this purpose)
Scenario #1: Oh, gosh! I would love to have the latest GB leak from AT&T! How to I do that? What in the world is Odin? Ain't it some mythological Norse deity?
Heimdall 1 click - done!
Scenario #2: I think I did something to my phone. It's not working right. My wifi is dropping like a leaky faucet. My Market is not working. I hate my phone! I wish it was like factory.
Heimdall 1 click - done!
Scenario #3: Oh crap! I just #@#% in my pants! I bricked my phone. OMG!!! I'm stuck on SAMSUNG logo! I'm boot looping! I lost recovery! Help me!!!
Heimdall 1 click - done.
How to INSTALL:
Update to the latest java: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
Run as admin.
1. Put your phone into Download Mode.
2. If you have not used Heimdall, you will need to set up the driver for device recognition.
3. Once your device is connected, the DEVICE STATUS should show: CONNECTED. The long FLASH bar will also turn on for flashing.
4. Click on the FLASH button. (In my opinion: I recommend that you do this in a safe environment. Do not disturb your phone will flashing this firmware. Turn off Antivirus. Do not run any other programs, upload/download/youtube/burning DVD etc)
5. Once it has completed, your phone will reboot. You will hopefully see the ATT logo and reboot into STOCK UCLB3.
6. If it did not work, you will have to put it back into DOWNLOAD mode and reflash a second time, with the FLASH BOOTLOADER box checked. This is more likely if you never had proper Gingerbread bootloaders on your phone, if you are coming from FROYO or if you never had Odin a Gingerbread leak to get your bootloaders.

How I made this package:
I took this leak from here. Please thank Przekret for providing us these packages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507658
I used Adam Outler's Heimdall One-Click Packaging system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348392
I used Adam's original post as a model. PIT files came from there as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331381
I used Heimdall Frontend to create the Heimdall tar.gz.
I tested on my device several times to ensure functionality.
It works for me.
DOWNLOAD mode: Power off. Open back cover. Remove battery. Press and hold both volume buttons - (do not hold power button) Insert battery while holding volume buttons. Plug in USB cable.
It can also be achieved by open back cover, Remove battery. Press and hold both volume buttons. Plug in USB cable and then insert battery.

Disclaimer: I offer this package as my own work. I have tested on my device and it worked after I intentionally borked it several times. I am sharing it. I am not asking you to use it. Use it at your own risk.
Please don't blame me if some act of God cause your phone to go haywire when you try it. If you can't get it to work, try a different USB Data cord, a different USB port, try a different PC or just rebooting your PC after driver installation.
Since I don't have my own server, I'm using Minus.com. Sometimes they are overwhelm by requests, it takes some patience. Please avoid mirroring unless you have my permission before hand. Thanks.

Greetings,
My name is Tim and I'm looking for some assistance with getting CM 10.1.3 up and running on my GS3 (d2vzw / SCH-i535). I'm not a complete noob, as I managed to successfully flash CM to my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and my Droid X2 after countless hours of reading through XDA forum posts for each of the devices, however...I'm still pretty new to a lot of this stuff as I usually don't mess with it once I get CM up and running, and struggle with command prompts still, so I apologize for any/all idiocy posted herein.
I am using the instructions found on the CM site under the d2vzw device (I'd link you but it doesn't appear as though I'm allowed to), and after reading that I don't need to root my device to install CM, I'd prefer to stick with this method (I'm also uncomfortable using Odin or any other such software, as I've heard bad things and already managed to soft brick my GS3 once with it.)
I've got all the appropriate files listed at the above page, but I'm confused with several aspects of the "official" install instructions, and would like some clarification, if possible. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
1) USB drivers: I installed the Samsung drivers, but when I ran heimdall print-pit in CMD, it failed giving me an error 12 (can't remember what, specifically, but apparently it has to do with USB drivers). A bit of Google-ing, and I was able to determine that Samsung drivers = bad. Okay, I can deal with that and have uninstalled them. However, does that mean I need to NOT let Windows 7 Update auto install drivers? Further, do I need to use the zadig app to install drivers before I can use Heimdall appropriately? I ask because after I uninstalled the Samsung drivers and rebooted, I tried to flash but it failed.
2) Wording of CMD commands confuses me. Heimdall flash --ABOOT aboot.mbn - okay, I get that I'm typing "heimdall flash" as the preface, but the actual aboot.mbn file is within a .tar file...so do I just flash to the location of the actual tar file? Or do I extract it with 7zip (as I initially tried) and try to flash to the location of the actual aboot.mbn file? Further, --ABOOT doesn't show up on the list of viable options within CMD, which confuses me (is it part of the command, or is it a place holder for some command I'm not understanding).
3) Same question for the other CMD commands.
I've looked around on XDA, the Heimdall site, and elsewhere for more detailed "official" install guides, but they all seem to either involve Odin or rooting, and as I mentioned I want nothing to do with either of them, if possible.
Thank you kindly for your time.
Sure you can do all that, but there are some easy one click root apps for the gs3. Then install cwm recovery. Then flash CM and GAPPs.
Just search the forum and you should be able to find the thread.
Good luck!!

The only "one-click app" I know of is Framaroot which does not work on the VZW varient of the GS3. So what app are u referring to?

I was not referring to an apk on the phone, meant pc app.
I have not personally used this, but looks like it will do the trick.

I thought I downloaded that before and it ended up being a jumble of files...but I just downloaded it now and it looks promising. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try tomorrow!

If you want just go try out the cyanogenmod installer from the play store. It should root, unlock, and install for you. Just follow the instructions in the app.

Well, I just tried using the "casual" root one-click thing.
I successfully rooted, but it took ~10 minutes on the flashing of aboot. It claimed to be done, but when I tried to flash CWM it rebooted into the "unauthorized software, contact verizon" screen.
Any ideas? This makes me sad. I don't know why this is so much more difficult than my other devices.
-e- I can still get into download mode, but when I try to go into recovery it just loops back to the main samsung screen with the custom icon and then hops into the verizon unauthorized stuff. Also, when I plug it in to charge it just vibrates once every ~5 seconds without doing much else.
Additionally, I still don't know which USB drivers I want for doing all of this. I'm relying on the ones Windows 7 auto-installs currently, if that helps with troubleshooting. Thank you in advance, again.

you just didn't unlock your bootloader that's all. Flash stock (or stock recovery) using Odin. Then root using the same method above. When rooted unlock your bootloader using EZunlock1.2. Its an app that runs on your phone. Then flash recovery. Done.
Edit: at this point it may be easier to just flash a prerooted stock ROM using Odin.
