Hey all, this has been an ongoing problem even after I got rid of my mothers root on her nexus s, it still has little to no wifi, I literally have to go up to a router to get one bar of strength - not fair. Is there any way I can make EVERYTHING stock, to see if it's a hardware problem? Because she get's all the OTA updates from google and everything, but none of them fix this constant issue, any help would be great. Thanks xdaers.
I have been having WiFi issues since being on cm10. Even going back to stock and back up still hasn't fixed it. Have you tried flashing the radio again in odin?

So plz clarify..
U unrooted the phone and its back to stock now?
If so then I'm confused on why u said if there is a reason to make everything stock.
What method did u use to unroot?
Some new kernels help the WiFi issue so root it again

So the past few days i have been dealing with an issue where my signal bars go grey/green constantly and its depleting my battery like crazy. When on wifi it seems fine but on data it is very irregular.
I just did a restore to an earlier bakcup i had and it still seems to do it. It did end up downloading all the updates since then, which could have screwed it up but i cant be sure.
Anyone else having this issue. I was going to restore but cant find a 2.3.6 rom.
any help is appreciated. Im wondering if the internal data modem is screwed up.

most likely its your providers fault. sounds like you are getting a pretty unreliable data connection. which, will deplete your battery quickly. check with your provider to see if they are having issues in your area.
i would think tho if it was my provider there would be SOMEONE else here with the problem. im in new haven CT. Ive tried restoring to 2 differant backups now, one waaaaaaaaaaaay back and it does it.
i will call to find out
thanks
quick question if they say to swap the phone then do i have to restore to stock unrooted? i dont feel like dealing with their BS right before ICS....
Restoring to stock on the nexus s is one of the easiest process of ANY phone. Install the stock zip and fast boot OEM lock. How is that BS or hard?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
i didnt mean restoring was BS i just meant dealing with ATT in general and questioning whether im rooted.
they would question a JB iphone everytime.

dont you need yoru background data on to get your emails and such?
Anyway tho I oddly fixed it or ATT repaired something at EXACTLY the same time.
I decided to go into my google market account to see if it saw my phone.
It did but had it as un named device, which it always has. I named the phone and then BAM havent had an issue since. This was the other day now.
Maybe google implemented something where you should name your device, i dunno maybe im special. This seems to have taken care of the issue. I checked background data before this tho and it all looked good.
Hi i traded my phone, and he installed the wrong thing and broke it. I thought i could fix it which i did. Now though when i load it up it has no mobile network. I can connect to wifi. I called atnt and they said my imei was fine. I registered this phone with them when i first bought it, so i dont see how the imei could bad. I think he tried to change the carrier to something else and messed it up. Is there any way i can get my mobile network back? ITs a atnt i727. What should i be looking for to change the carrier to what its suppose to be. The imei is the right one from the back of the battery.

Isnt that for the data? I reset it to default but it didnt help. I cant make phone calls or anything. Is there a setting to tell the phone to connect to at&t or something like that? Or is there any way he broke the hardware? Under the settings about the phone it shows my phone number.
Thanks for trying guys. I have a update I got like one bar last night and it received like 4text and then got none. My girl friends phone is getting service, so does that mean something in the phone is broken
More details on what he did to break it and what you have done to fix my guess is that you need to flash a better working radio

Well when I got it back it was is a mode I haven't seen, kinda like the download mode but it said Odin kies mode. Im not sure what ics he tried to put in it. But I put back in the flash to stock Odin from the site and it loaded back up. Then I saw it didn't have service so I installed Cw recovery and installed sky coke. Which I have now, also tried some kernals but that didn't help ethier.now I have sky coke no service to atnt for calls or text but wifi works. I don't get service even in emergency mode.
Try finding a gingerbread radio FOR THIS PHONE and flash it my guess is that is your issue I don't have links but they exist somewhere in this noob ridden skyrocket forum

Thanks very much, i tried that and it still doesnt work. Weird enough every once and awhile it works, it should like it must of dropped it in water or something, and bricked it on me so i wouldn't realize what was going on. Or am i wrong? Is the thing that receives and transmits cell calls and text able to brake hardware wise?
What I would do is try a new sim card. All the network info is on there. If you did something wrong with roms or whatever, you could fry the sim. I would also make sure to have complete stock and I mean bone stock att rom( no root) placed on it. This will make everything back to factory and a better way to eliminate the problem. Sounds to me you have multiple and nothing meshing together. Search forums to return to stock which most likely would be gb 2.3.6. Good luck.
Oh and make sure you read closely and carefully. Returning to stock can be dangerous if you don't follow the directions step by step and have patience. You have nothing to lose if the phone is already borked. Its worth a try.

I'm having the same exact problem. And unfortunately, it looks like it has something to do with the CM 10.1 itself. As CM 10 works perfectly fine and gets me a signal, CM 10.1 won't be able to get me services.
I don't think there's a fix on this yet.

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing you're on a different baseband than UCMC1.

Okay, so I flashed Paranoid Android 2.16. Everything went great, flashed fine. But I could not get wifi to work at all. It would turn of and back on randomly, would not connect to any network, etc. So, I flashed the ROM by Team Viper. Again, flashed fine, worked fine, but Wifi would not work, it would do the same thing.
So, then I restored my nandroid backup, and wifi works grand. Is there something I missed? Stock isn't too bad on this phone, but I'm a flash junkie, and I'll miss JB on my GNex. PA works beautifully, except for the damn wifi issue.
So, any suggestions on how to get wifi to work on my custom ROMs? Loving this phone so far, I've missed HTC. The three things that would make it my *perfect* phone is SD card slot, bigger battery, and 720p screen. But the phone is gorgeous and feels amazing physically and performance wise.

Okay, I'm glad that it's not just me. I'm going to try again, sometime tomorrow or later today. I'm hoping that it's something that can be fixed with a little more digging, or if it's something that we need a wifi module for.
Same thing here. Just fixed a soft brick now I got utb ROM working. Flashed trick droid and WiFi is gone.

Okay, there was another post with this issue, something that I missed. But apparently it's because of the last update (ICS 4.0.4 & Sense 4.1).
Flashing ROMs over this update seems to be breaking wifi. Here's the other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913757
I'm having a lot of trouble with this as well. I just bought a One S a few days ago and got to work rooting, etc. After trying to install other ROMs, I can't get wifi to connect.
I have a T-Mobile version One S and can only assume it's gone through the latest updates prior to my purchase (got it through craigslist).
I have a decent idea of what I'm doing with these phones most of the time, but it seems like this time around I may need a little hand holding through the potential fixes. Like an idiot, I didn't bother to do a backup before jumping into flashing my first ROM, so I probably shouldn't be surprised that I'm having troubles.
Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Right now I'm just stuck here.
What info do you need and how can I find it?
Extra info:
I did try the 1.84 and 2.35 partition fixes but still couldn't get the issue resolved.
Yeah.. I flashed the international version of trickdroid and my wifi signal was great, then I flashed the TMO version (I have a tmo one s) and it messed up my wifi signal completely, weird.
Have you guys found a way to fix it? Im having the same issues with all the custom roms, I've tried several of them and even different versions of the same rom(I thought it was an issues with that rom version) but the wifi never seems to work on any rom I flash. I'm using a htc vivid with att. If you found a fix could you pm me?
So recently in our area cellular services are blocked from time to time due to security measures. Now the really annoying thing is that my phone does not automatically catch signals when the service is back and when I reboot they are back. I have tried switching back and forth from airplane mode but to no avail it just needs a reboot. Infact yesterday when the services were back my data connection started working but there were no signals in the status bar and I couldnt make a call.
What could be the problem? I am running rooted stock rom 4.1.2 with matrix kernel. Or is this possibly a problem with the cellular company?

Its the i9023. Radio I dont know but I have never fiddled with this stuff so I suppose its stock radio. Only think I have done is root and custom kernel.
I used to have this problem, wanna know what happenned? My NS died (hard brick).
Most likely won't happen to yours.
The solution might be to flash a new radio that is compatible with the i9023. Radio's can alter your network performance and signal quality. If you're interested, here is a thread with different radio's:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884. Remember to always backup before flashing, and you can revert to your old radio by flashing it. To check your current radio, go to setting-->about phone, and look for baseband version.
An alternative is to try to flash a new rom, if you dont want to flash a radio.
Another alternative is a factory reset.
BUT, there is a possibility that our phones are designed like that, and none of these solutions will work.
Good luck! keep me updated
I have the KI1 radio. Well I asked a friend with an Iphone 4 and he says it "sometimes" happens with his phone as well so I suppose it's not something completely abnormal.
I don't actually have any signal problem apart from this issue. I never have to restart phone to get signals unless this specific timed ban on cellular services happen, I don't lose signals with some regular very short problem with network. I suppose it's just better to live with it than flashing new radios?
I might flash a custom rom soon so the factory reset solution will be tested then.
Did your Nexus S just randomly died? How do you suppose it had something to do with this problem?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I don't think it has to do with the problem, but i never found a solution because it died. Let me know how the new rom goes!

Btw there was also another problem that I didnt mention. Sometimes my phone refuses to turn on data connection and it only comes back with a reboot. This ONLY happens very rarely when I switch from wifi to data and never happens after data connection has started.
Did you have this problem? I just switched to CM10 yesterday and it has once happened so far but its not related to the ROM since it very rarely happened before as well.
I actually did have this problem! With my old ns. How long have you had this phone?

Its about 6 months old. I am experiencing this problem more whenever wifi is on for an extended period, so far I have had it 3 times with CM10.
I went back and forth to airplane mode and it started working so atleast didnt need to reboot.
I think this could be a 4.1.2 problem for me as I dont remember this happening previously.
Maybe try an ICS ROM?

Hi all,
I own the Nexus 5 for almost one year now.. Gps always worked flawlessly. Last week I started to have gps issues.. I was on the road signal was OK for 15min and suddenly it dropped. Since then I've tried everything:
Agps download
Several gps apps
Full Wipe
New gps.conf settings
Nexus 5 gps antena fix.
Nothing work. Today I was making a comparison with my wife's galaxy s3 and I noticed something weird. The orientation of North is different. I don't know if this has something to do with the GPS lock.
Also, I can get a lock from (usually) half of the visible satellites. When my wife's galaxy s3 can get a lock from 98% of visible satellites. My error margin is always to big for navigation 14-40meters.
Can someone help me?
I'm rooted and using linaro kernel..
Anyone?

I will most likely to RMA my device, since I've tried everything...
It does not seem to be an hardware failure, because I can lock like 7 or 8 of 22 satellites...
I've tryed diferent rom, diferent kernel, diferent radio... Antena fix, nothing works.

I was having similiar issues and after looking around on the internet and reading this thread on the google code pages I think I found a work around...
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=72311
You need to go back and install the Radio from 4.4.2, it seems the Radio that came with 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 cause lots of GPS Signal loses. Installed the Radio yesterday and cleared cache and Dalvik-cache and my trip to work this morning had no signal lose. Hope it continues to work as my last vacation the GPS was pretty much unusable and I was ready to do an RMA. But if it is software hopefully google will fix. Please "Star" the Google issue so it gets more priority if using older radio fixes your issue.
Can you please point me the link to 4.4.1 radio?
Thank you
I extracted it from the Nexus 4.4.2 Factory image and flashed the radio using Fastboot:
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/hammerhead-kot49h-factory-02006b99.tgz
But you can also find the Radios as IMG or ZIP (flash with a Custom Recovery) files in the attached thread:

It worked for me in my testing yesterday. Did you also clear your Dalvik Cache? I did both at the same time and since then GPS worked for me.
Not for me
I tried flashing the radio yesterday and it didn't seem to resolve me issue. So I used the LG tool to go back to stock, and GPS locked last night. But this morning it was the issue. Of course if I reboot the phone, I get an immediate lock. Not sure what's up with that. But I'm going to try a few more things today.

Yes it worked for me I did a factory reset & unroot just because I was getting ready to send it back. Then I read about the KOT49E radio re rooted & flashed KOT49E & now it works perfectly. I don't know if the reset was necessary, but its nice to clean out the closet every now & then.
I can't believe how frustrating this has been & such a simple fix (if your are rooted that is)
Got my board replaced, and now it works xD
