Hi all,
I own the Nexus 5 for almost one year now.. Gps always worked flawlessly. Last week I started to have gps issues.. I was on the road signal was OK for 15min and suddenly it dropped. Since then I've tried everything:
Agps download
Several gps apps
Full Wipe
New gps.conf settings
Nexus 5 gps antena fix.
Nothing work. Today I was making a comparison with my wife's galaxy s3 and I noticed something weird. The orientation of North is different. I don't know if this has something to do with the GPS lock.
Also, I can get a lock from (usually) half of the visible satellites. When my wife's galaxy s3 can get a lock from 98% of visible satellites. My error margin is always to big for navigation 14-40meters.
Can someone help me?
I'm rooted and using linaro kernel..
Anyone?
@dahool What app is that?

I will most likely to RMA my device, since I've tried everything...
It does not seem to be an hardware failure, because I can lock like 7 or 8 of 22 satellites...
I've tryed diferent rom, diferent kernel, diferent radio... Antena fix, nothing works.

You need to go back and install the Radio from 4.4.2, it seems the Radio that came with 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 cause lots of GPS Signal loses. Installed the Radio yesterday and cleared cache and Dalvik-cache and my trip to work this morning had no signal lose. Hope it continues to work as my last vacation the GPS was pretty much unusable and I was ready to do an RMA. But if it is software hopefully google will fix. Please "Star" the Google issue so it gets more priority if using older radio fixes your issue.
Can you please point me the link to 4.4.1 radio?
Thank you
I extracted it from the Nexus 4.4.2 Factory image and flashed the radio using Fastboot:
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/hammerhead-kot49h-factory-02006b99.tgz
But you can also find the Radios as IMG or ZIP (flash with a Custom Recovery) files in the attached thread:

It worked for me in my testing yesterday. Did you also clear your Dalvik Cache? I did both at the same time and since then GPS worked for me.
Not for me
I tried flashing the radio yesterday and it didn't seem to resolve me issue. So I used the LG tool to go back to stock, and GPS locked last night. But this morning it was the issue. Of course if I reboot the phone, I get an immediate lock. Not sure what's up with that. But I'm going to try a few more things today.

Yes it worked for me I did a factory reset & unroot just because I was getting ready to send it back. Then I read about the KOT49E radio re rooted & flashed KOT49E & now it works perfectly. I don't know if the reset was necessary, but its nice to clean out the closet every now & then.
I can't believe how frustrating this has been & such a simple fix (if your are rooted that is)
Got my board replaced, and now it works xD

Hi guys. I need a little help here please. I am running cm7 on my inspire 4g and for some reason my GPS doesn't wanna work anymore?
It rarely locks on a signal whereas it used to never have a problem and locked within 10 or 15 seconds.
I have tried different fixes. I tried the combined audio+GPS fix found on this forum. I've tried different kernels. I just can't get it to work!!!!
Can anybody please help me get my beloved GPS working again???

I am also having GPS problems with CM7. If I install any nightly past RC2, my GPS will not work. I can turn it on in the settings, but I never get the GPS icon to turn on.
I just tried a clean install of nightly 19 and the GPS work once, now it won't turn on again. I did a factory reset/wipe data/wipe dalvik cache, then installed the ROM and google apps. After installing the google apps, I tried google maps and the GPS did not work. I rebooted the phone, the GPS worked. Installed my apps again, now it won't turn on at all.
I am at a loss...any ideas?
I've also had tons of problems with CM7 GPS...hopefully they'll get it worked out.
Last night I did a full wipe and I thought I fixed it. But today again GPS is having trouble getting any locks at all. Tried changing radios as well.

Try this. Disable wireless networks and GPS. Reboot your phone. This time check GPS only, leave wireless networks unchecked. Then open "Maps" and see if you get a lock. If you do you can re-enable wireless networks and all should be well. Let me know.

Flashing GPS fix and running this app fixed it for me.
GPS works perfect for me on nightly 19. Didn't have to flash any GPS fixes, download anything from the Market, or perform any odd tasks to get it to work. It just worked. Running stock CM7 kernel and stock Inspire radio with Eng S-ON (haven't found a reason to flash another radio).
I have the problem where the GPS doesn't ever lock, even after a reboot. I will see a Fix on 12/12, but it never locks location. I loaded Core 4 with Gingerbread and it worked fine and locked in 16 seconds. It seems like there's an issue with the algorithm for finding the location or something.
How are you guys determining if you have a "lock" on your location?
So there actually is a problem. GPS works until you turn it off and then back on again. Fortunately is was just fixed according to the changelog, so tonight's nightly should be gtg.

I would also say make sure your doing a proper wipe when your flashing. And also that your using the recommended radio for the rom your using.

I full wipe before each install or restore. Gonna try radio reflash and see if that helps.

But I'm not the OP . I am into GPS stuff tho this is cool . I am on my way to work but will check this out.
I have found that when my historical GPS data is wiped I have to use market apps like GPS Fix or GPS Essentials as an aid to getting lock again. I don't know if these really do anything...what it does do is have you watching the screen standing outside with open sky for 10 or so minutes as the # of satellites increases until it gets me within a 7 or so meter accuracy radius (lock). Then GPS behaves much better going forward with quicker acquisition times and such.
I had the same issue, reflashing the stock radio worked for me. This happened across several ROMs so I am not sure when the problems started. The ROM I am using now works best with the stock radio, flashed it and all problems were gone. I used GPS Status to lock, now I lock within seconds.

My gps stopped working on my first Inspire. Got spotty, then died completely, no matter what ROM. I restored to stock with s-on, same issue. Brought it to a warranty center and exchanged it. The new one locks better than the.old one ever did (and I thought the old was great) and has worked fine ever since. Might just be a bad chip.

Since this was developed for Gingerbread, and I'm still stock, I think I will wait either until I root, or get the OTA if not rooted, then try this out .
I have noticed, or seem to have, that when I am not toggling my GPS on and off as much over time the more accurate and quick it gets. I had profiles toggling it based on conditions. I started getting rid of those conditions vs. GPS, and I get locks much quicker. Of course it sucks the battery big time, but I am plugged in a lot. And I have a quick toggle I just have to keep in mind if I'm out and don't really need it and need the battery instead.
After changing several Roms I lost my GPS as well. First I did a full wipe, factory reset, all cashe, ect. Did a clean install (with certain roms I found having a clean reboot between installing add-ons helps). I then Installed the GPS Script for US ran the GPS Test App free from the market and get a lock on 9+ sats in under 25 sec.
no one mentioned this when they brought up reflashing hte radio, but make sure you have a matching RIL for the radio. i've had so many headaches over gps that were fixed by making sure i have the right RIL lol. for an easy way to download and flash RIL, check out the gtg4556 (i think thats right) section in ROM Manager and look for the RIL flasher. AWESOME tooL
Finally got around to fooling with this thing... lol... GPS is working again. I decided to go ahead and unroot to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue and it wasn't. Started working again when put back to stock. So, I rerooted and its still working. I'm assuming it was a radio mixup between roms or something. Thanks for all the responses.

Since I flashed the radio / ROM combination in my sig my GPS is behaving like one would expect. I had an HTC Tilt1 one and the GPS was good. I have been disappointed with the performance of the Inspire's GPS, but no longer. Locks under 10 seconds and sometimes under 5. Good. I like it when things like this are resolved.
If your gps stops working altogether, you can usually fix it by just re-flashing the radio. You don't need to unroot and go back to stock.

I have tried running a few different ICS roms and had very bad luck with the GPS working. Is there something I should be doing prior to flashing a a new rom or after flashing that would help get the gps to work?
I have tried GPS Status, GPS Test and GPS Fix but nothing seems to work.
I have read tons of posts and nothing seems consistent in gettting the gps to work.
I have used AOSP 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 and vhgomez roms.

this will be moved into a different forum. dont post questions in development...but to answer your question, if you use those gps apps you sometimes gotta wait a while for it to pick up gps, u cant just hit clear agps data, redownload agps data and boom gps works. sometimes u gotta wait a little for it to find a signal. I've never in my whole history of owning an android phone have had gps issues that i couldnt fix by using those programs. and i've run the aosp oICS rom and had perfect gps.
If your GPS is not working at all, and you've tried everything. Try un-rooting your phone, go back to stock rom, see if that gets GPS to work. Then try to root again. I read on a Google forum that this guy did not have GPS working at all. He though he had a bad GPS chip or something. He un-rooted to return phone to Sprint and for some odd reason the GPS started working again. My GPS does not work also. It did prior to rooting. Im wating for the official OTA to un-root then root in hopes of getting it to work. I dont use GPS much so its not a issue for me at the moment. Good luck.
GPS seemed to be off for all the ROMs I was using, mostly in apps outside of the Maps app. I went back to 2.3.7 stock since I figure ICS OTA should be arriving soon.
Good to know I'm not the only one. I love ics too much to go back. But at least its a known issue. Anyone have any idea why?

Try the QBANIN GPSFix app if you haven't already, otherwise try using your GPS in different areas.
For the longest time I would rage because I had no GPS (or so I thought) when I attempted to use google maps or anything. Tried all the GPS fixes with zips and various apps, unrooted, same thing.
A month later I was on a trip out of state, opened up google maps and got a lock instantly! When I got back home checked gps again, still wouldn't lock.
Turns out for whatever stupid a** reason... about a 1/2 mile radius around my house GPS will not work but as soon as I get out of that area, its almost instant haha. Hopefully you have the same issue as I did

How long did you wait? I've tried this several times to no avail.
So recently in our area cellular services are blocked from time to time due to security measures. Now the really annoying thing is that my phone does not automatically catch signals when the service is back and when I reboot they are back. I have tried switching back and forth from airplane mode but to no avail it just needs a reboot. Infact yesterday when the services were back my data connection started working but there were no signals in the status bar and I couldnt make a call.
What could be the problem? I am running rooted stock rom 4.1.2 with matrix kernel. Or is this possibly a problem with the cellular company?

Its the i9023. Radio I dont know but I have never fiddled with this stuff so I suppose its stock radio. Only think I have done is root and custom kernel.
I used to have this problem, wanna know what happenned? My NS died (hard brick).
Most likely won't happen to yours.
The solution might be to flash a new radio that is compatible with the i9023. Radio's can alter your network performance and signal quality. If you're interested, here is a thread with different radio's:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884. Remember to always backup before flashing, and you can revert to your old radio by flashing it. To check your current radio, go to setting-->about phone, and look for baseband version.
An alternative is to try to flash a new rom, if you dont want to flash a radio.
Another alternative is a factory reset.
BUT, there is a possibility that our phones are designed like that, and none of these solutions will work.
Good luck! keep me updated
I have the KI1 radio. Well I asked a friend with an Iphone 4 and he says it "sometimes" happens with his phone as well so I suppose it's not something completely abnormal.
I don't actually have any signal problem apart from this issue. I never have to restart phone to get signals unless this specific timed ban on cellular services happen, I don't lose signals with some regular very short problem with network. I suppose it's just better to live with it than flashing new radios?
I might flash a custom rom soon so the factory reset solution will be tested then.
Did your Nexus S just randomly died? How do you suppose it had something to do with this problem?

Btw there was also another problem that I didnt mention. Sometimes my phone refuses to turn on data connection and it only comes back with a reboot. This ONLY happens very rarely when I switch from wifi to data and never happens after data connection has started.
Did you have this problem? I just switched to CM10 yesterday and it has once happened so far but its not related to the ROM since it very rarely happened before as well.

Its about 6 months old. I am experiencing this problem more whenever wifi is on for an extended period, so far I have had it 3 times with CM10.
I went back and forth to airplane mode and it started working so atleast didnt need to reboot.
I think this could be a 4.1.2 problem for me as I dont remember this happening previously.

Hi,
The GPS on my Oneplus One appears to be very close to broken after the OTA update to 5.1. My phone is completely stock - ie not rooted, locked bootloader, the whole lot. Everything else on the device works beautifully.
I've searched around and it doesn't appear to be a very common problem with this phone.
The GPS worked flawlessly on 4.4 and I think on 5.0 (was only on 5.0 for a couple of days before the 5.1 OTA came through).
Using GPS test I can see 32 satellites, but it will very, very slowly fix to 7 or 8 and sometimes get a lock, mostly not.
Is this something anyone else is finding, or has a fix for?
I'm not against rooting and flashing another ROM, it just seems a little overkill when everything else works so well.
Thanks in advance for any help...
Did you tried GPS Fix from Playstore?

^^^ Yes, often resetting and downloading new AGPS data can fix this. I use GPS Status & Toolbox.
Thanks guys. "The GPS Fix" app sorted it out. I'm not sure what it actually does behind the scenes but I'm getting a solid lock instantly now.
Is this something I'm going to need to do periodically, or after a reboot to keep it working?
Cheers...
