[Q]Can I do factory reset after rooting my pad - Asus Transformer TF700

Can I do a factory reset after I have rooted my pad?
Will it work right? Would I get an official update?
Rooted by debugfs

yes and yes. Keep your root by installing superSU, opening it, then running voodoo, and backing up your root. Might as well do the JB update first, then factory restore, then download and run superSU and voodoo again and restore root.

Thx! Mooderators can close the thread, but I think this question should appear in some main thread .

It does, numerous times, lol

What's the deal with choosing supersu over superuser?

Uninstall Superuser?

So I decided to go back to stock hoping to get OTAs. I was on stock rooted and used ODIN to flash stock unrooted as per the directions in the sticky thread in Android Development. I restarted the phone and superuser is still there. Did I fail to unroot? Also, will this affect my ability to get OTA if it is unrooted?

You could uninstall the .apk itself / or delete with root explorer

You did something wrong, or somehow restored it, or maybe you flashed Root66 or an already rooted image by accident, because if you restored to completely stock, unrooted image through Odin, it basically overwrites the entire /system partition (operating system), there should be no apps or anything left that was custom installed. Before you did this though, you should have gone into recovery and wiped cache and data (make sure you backup all your data because wiping data will delete all your data on the phone and all your market apps too, except for your external/internal sdcard data). Anyway, flashing through Odin completely wipes your /system partition, so it would be impossible to have anything lingering from before. What this means is that you either installed the wrong image through Odin and it's still rooted, or you didn't wipe data before flashing and Superuser must have been installed as a user app then. Do a factory wipe (after backing up data you want to keep), then reflash stock rom again.
Why the hell would you ever accept a ota? A dev will base a ROM on whatever ota you feel you need if there is not one already, without shady Verizon crap. Your asking for trouble

Performance JB

Well i got my JB udate recently. This is the first thoughts:
1. Slow browser
2. Autodimmer problem is still there
3. fast app drawer
4. Cant feel the butter effect on this tab.
you should probably just consolidate this with the initial JB thread that came out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914654
Auto dimmer can be disable under ASUS settings it should be around at the bottom called smart dimmer, something along that line.
If you run into problems with apps and performance, I suggest to perform a factory reset. That should clear things up and insure a clean Jelly Bean experience. Also since JB just droped this morning, don't expect it to be smooth. The new OS needs to settle before you can truly see a difference. Just wait at least 24 hours before you praise or complain about your experience. But for the meantime, I applied a cold boot after I noticed a bit of sluggishness. Seems to have fixed that. Ill probably do a factory reset if my apps act up though.

We lose root if we do a factory reset correct?

I didn't. These are the steps I took.
1. Make sure you Install and use SuperSU
2. Install Voodoo OTA root keeper. Make a backup
3. Factory reset
4. Install super SU from market
5. Install vodoo from the market.
6. restore root in voodoo
7. open supersu
Might be an easier way to do it, but that gave me no problems.
what do i use to make a backup? or do you mean back up he binary file for OTA?

I think he means backup meaning "protect root" with Voodoo OTA prior to factory reset.
I did not need to do anything more than that.

That's GREAT! I will factory reset mine after work today to have a fresh experience.
I just updated mine when I woke up early this morning lol
FYI: I activated the root protection in SuperSU and it didn't work. That was from .26 to .30, and now I'm installing JB. Rooting doesn't quite do it for me anymore anyway.
Ok sorry for nubbish, but if i do a factory reset then don't i lose all the apps i installed? if so then if i have root and protect it all etc with OTA with superSU wont those apps be gone so no more root?
Im unsure i understand how you save root after the factory reset thanks.

Yes, a factory reset will delete your installed app including voodoo ota an supersu but once you reinstall them from the play store voodoo ota will do its thing and you will have root again

I just am wondering what is the point of the factory reset? Is it because people recommend it after updating go jb?
I think ive read that if you don't see a difference after the update in speed and whatnot that if you factory reset then its supposed to help.
So if the factory reset wipes the tablet ,were is the binary backup that OTA saved to protect root?

it doesn't wipe everything, but it does wipe the data partition which is where all user installed apps are housed.
I did not lose root as I used OTA RootKeeper but the I/O scores are still horrible, Now that official JB is out, I may unlock and try Zeus, I was holding out in hopes that the stock JB would address the I/O issues but no such luck.

[Q] Wipe date (reset) after JB Update?

I need a help from anyone,please...
I've succesfully updated to JB (vie OTA).But i want to setup clean JB,then i want to do a factory reset
or wipe dalvik-cashe-data on my Tablet.
If i do so-do i loose root? (it was saved with OTAKeeper befor update to JB and restored after that
without problems).Or do i lose OTA keeper (or backups from Keeper) to restore root after wipe all??
Please suggest me, i'm very curious about that and want to make all right
from the Beginning...
Thanks in advance,
Val
Just forget-i have root but not modified bootloader.

You can do factory reset and still have root. Make sure you do a full backup first with Tibu.

(Q)How to stay up to date while rooted?

Rooted with CWM as recovery. Shield Tablet has OTA update but obviously can't install with CWM. What is the simplest way to stay up to date and keep root?
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using xda premium
Still looking for help with this. I have a basic understanding on how things work. Is this what I need to do?
Flash original recovery
Reboot then do the OTA update
Then refresh CWM
Will I lose root?

That's not the way to go at all.
Whenever there's an update, flash the incremental OTA file HERE.
Flashing the stock recovery will not allow taking OTA's.
thank you for the link, which command do I use to flash the incremental update looks like the instructions there are for a full update. thanks again

Um, just flash it in TWRP or CWM, only need to flash cache and dalvik cache, but that's optional.
Im also sorta nooby about this. The only thing I have ever done is flash Cyanogen Mod and install TWRP on my Galaxy Note 3. I have rooted my Shield and installed Uno TWRP out of the box. Thus its not on the latest update. Just to clarify so I don't f*ck up. I just download the latest OTA, copy to my sdcard and flash in TWRP? And that will just update it without having to lose all my apps etc?
EDIT: So incremental updates take from version x.x to version x.x? Oh, and is it true that root is wiped? Im happy to re-root everytime.

Yes that's true, just make sure you flash the incremental updates and not the full OTA's. And as far as root I'm not sure if you loose it, while in recovery might as well just flash SuperSU to be safe.

Ok thanks. One more question. How would I go about checking the rom version? Unless I'm missing it I can only see the Android version, which is 5.0.
EDIT: i'm getting some sort of error when trying to flash the zips. I downloaded (for wifi) 2.0 to 2.1, 2.1 to 2.2 and 2.2 to 2.2.1. Whenever I try to flash it just fails.

Yes, because you need to flash 2.2.1 full ota via custom recovery, and wipe cache dalvik. Then flash again your custom recovery. Then supersu.
If you are rooted with custom rec (twrp, cwm, Philz) you need to flash full ota.
Wouldn't the tablet be wiped then? And if this is the case everytime can't I just keep the stock recovery and sideboard a custom one?
Nope. You just flash on top, like a dirty flash. I use TWRP and Ive done it twice and still kept everything. The only wipe you need to do is cache & dalvik after flashing full OTA.
If you keep stock rec just for the fact of being rooted incremental OTAs wont work

I just flashed full OTA via CWM and lost root.
I had to re fastboot flash recovery and then sideload supersu to root.
It sounds like TWRP is holding root.

On my previous instructions I pointed out to (after flashing ota) to reflash custom rec and supersu.

With twrp I do it literally after flashing full ota. I leave recovery to reboot to system right when Im done flashing everything.

how to unroot stock rom without reflashing or deleting data

is it possible to unroot stock rom without doing a clean install?? stupid thing is i need to login to snapchat but it wont let me as i have super su flashed . is there any work around for this issue guys?
you can temporary disable root or permanently unroot your device right from SuperSU settings.

i tried by clicking full unroot option but it says failed
Do you have a twrp backup from prior to rooting, if so restore only system and boot, wipe caches and reboot.
