Hi guys, my girlfriend bought a lumia 710, and one day after she bought it, I flashed a custom rom
But, we can't remember making any call before the new ROM, and with the new ROM the call quality is TERRIBLE, when I try to talk to her, I always hear a very loud echo, and her voice is always very low...
Has anyone got a similar bug? can this be caused by the ROM? or is it a problem with the phone and we need to send it to the technical assistance??
I was thinking on trying to put a custom ROM based com 7.8 to see if this fixes the call problem, but we don't want to lose every progress we made on our games :crying: is there anyway to make a backup of the savegames so I can put it back on the new ROM?
You're quite likely to get flamed (and rightly so) for the last part of your first sentence. I'll certainly tell you that I have no particular interest in helping you. I might even engage in a bit of it myself...
With that said, I don't know whether there are call problems with Lumia 710 custom ROMs, but normally that certainly isn't a problem they have. As for backup, there are ways both to back up the whole phone, or individual app storage. I'll leave the issue of finding them up to you; you seem perfectly capable of searching XDA-Devs when your goal is to abuse the hard work of the forum's actual contributors and be a greedy cheapskate with a sense of entitlement; so you have a pretty good chance of finding the backup tools too.
Oh look, I guess I did...

If that Lumia is unlocked you can do backup with data bases your games (and other apps) via Windows Phone Device Manager from Julien Schapman. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=965788

whoa easy there, don't need to come with 20 rocks on your hands...
Let's go by parts... You mean to tell me that I'm getting flamed just because we don't want to lose our progress on games? Isn't it normal? Don't you play games on your phone and computer? You wouldn't mind to lose all your progress?
I really don't know why to be so hater, i mean, if I was asking this stuff in other sub-forum I would understand, but this is the part for questions, aren't we suposed to ask stuff in here?
The last thing I want is to abuse or anything, I'm just asking here because I made a search on the internet and I didn't find anything helpful, and I thought that it was possible that someone here could had the same problem and know how to fix it...
My english is not perfect, dunno if I sounded rude on the first post up there, if so, sorry, don't need to be rude back... That wasn't my objective...
Now, about the backups, you said that it's possible to backup the whole phone, what do you mean about "whole"? It include the OS? So if I put the 7.8 I couldn't restore the savegames? If I try to restore it'll downgrade?

GoodDayToDie is refering to this comment... Here at XDA we DO NOT condone, encourage, support or assist in Piracy!
well damn, is it too late to just forget this little part?
In fairness, the loss of app progress is a huge problem however those apps got on your phone (yes, I do a ton of gaming on my phone, and at one point lost a lot of progress when I had to roll back the phone without being able to back up app data). That's why we do now, in fact, have tools for backing up the file in individual apps.
As for the "whole phone" thing, that's everything - the OS, the firmware, and the data - all in one opaque and encrypted blob. It's very handy for something to do before you mess with your phone's ROM or try experimental hacks. However, when it's restored, it overwrites everything on the phone back to that state. There's no way to do it piecemeal.

Is it documented someplace on what to backup with this before installing a custom rom ? Under a quick look and search, I could not find the exact info on how to do this correctly

I did seach, sorry if I missed it someplace....
Thanks in advance !
well, looks like i'm a bit out of luck...
I tried doing backup of the savegames with Windows Phone Device Manager, and installed the new ROM to see if it would fix the call quality...
well, it didn't, then I had an idea, and took off the case, and discovered that the case was causing this problem, it was in front of the microphone, that's why it was making echo, it was capturing sound from inside the phone, and I could hear her voice very low...
basically I "formated" the phone for nothing... and I tried to restore the backups I made on the WPDM, and it said that it restored successfully, but I tried the games... and it was with 0% progress !!!
I trully should have tried to learn more about making that full backup, it would be useful now!!!
edit: well, just kinectimals worked the backup

Did you have to redownload the games before restoring ?
well, I installed them, then tries to restore the backup but nothing happened, didnt had to redownload and it's still 0%...
But don't worry, at least I discovered what was causing the call problem... Now we just need to make a little cut on the case!

Broke the glass on my Titan and getting a replacement today. Getting the software back on is no problem and I really don't have any data to worry about since it's up on Skydrive.
But, is there anyway to save my text messages and restore them and the groups I have set up?
What else am I missing?
Thanks,
Rick
there's an sms back up tool in the app development forum.
as far as groups, i don't think theres a way to save them.

I've seen posts where people unlock their phones or load a particular Rom and use Zune to backup their phones. I haven't seen a post that actually describes how to do that. Not sure it applies here but after a while I am going to try and unlock my phone and try a couple of Rom's.
you can use the zune back up tools, but, i don't think any gen2 devices really have full support with roms and imaging tools.

I must admit, I was pretty good on the WM platform but on WP and Zune, I am a newbie. I don't see where Zune will do a backup and like you said, there isn't much support for it which I interpret into, back it up is good but restoring is a whole other issue? Correct?
Gotta ask too, the signature you use. Do you still race? I am in my 50's now and raced locally into my 30's so it's been a while! The the part of your user ID that states SVT, any chance it references Ford vehicles?
The Zune backup image is tied to the hardware. You can't backup one phone and restore to a different phone.

Real world, people's phones are going to break and be replaced and in my case, with the exact same phone and model. Tools should be available to make this an easy task to complete. Not as an afterthought but as part of the base system.
Why take a happy customer and just tick the guy off when you can't replace all the data in a few easy steps.

Tell me about it. Apple and Android had backup/restore ability since day 1 - all smartphones should! Now with iOS5 Apple allow users to do a full backup and restore via iCloud over wifi; no computer needed.
WP7 is ridiculously behind - it's like Microsoft thinks our data isn't important to us? Anyway you can vote for this feature here:
http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...suggestions/suggestions/1549673-device-backup
There are ways to backup text messages, but it requires fully unlocking the device, which is not possible on the Titan yet.
If you have the tools to do it, replacing the touchscreen on your broken Titan with the one on the replacement would be the best way to keep your data.
This is gonna be long, so please bear with me.
New Android user here, since December and never looked back.
But I have a big problem that just started two days ago, and coincided with the installation of Vonage for Android.
My N7100 is rooted and I also installed a new kernel (Perseus), but kept the stock ROM for the time being, but I'm getting closer to installing CyanogenMod ROM through ROManager Premium.
I just read the article posted here by Will Verduzco on Android security which led me to a bunch of articles on VOIP and it's scary.
My problem is that my N7100 will kind of do a half-baked reset without my doing anything... and then after watching the download light blinking on my router here in the house, Airport is downloading for about five minutes and then, BANG!!!, up comes the screen asking me for my language, and to set up a Google acct, Samsung acct, and I have to re-enter the passwords for my WiFi, etc, etc... you know the drill.
What's causing this?
I've been on XDA hundreds of times doing research on one thing or another, and I've removed all the Google bloatware possible except for the few things that I want to keep, and I got that comprehensive list from the XDA site... but after my device gets done doing it's thing, everything is back with dozens of notifications... AND Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, Triangle Away, SuperSu, Root Explorer, ES File Explorer/Task manager, etc are all missing and no backups on the SD card. WHAT!!!
One more thing which might be peripheral to my problem.
A couple of days ago I installed the new OS for my Mac... 10.9.
With my prior OS, I uninstalled almost all of anything that said "Google" from my computer but have to go through it again and repeat.
This morning, I do a search for anything Google on my drive, and came up with files with executable update files that all had "Android/GT-N7100 in the path.
Yes, I did connect to Kies by USB just once to check things out there but I don't think that's the underlying problem. Maybe it is.
I've seen some REAL genius help on this site, and hope that somebody that has a grasp on my problem can help.
I joined this site a few minutes ago just to ask this question, by the way.
If I went off track as to the posting guidelines on the site, just tell me.
Hey, I'm pushing 70 and the mind wanders. Haha!
Thanks in advance, guys!

No, I haven't flashed CM yet, but as I said, I'm moving in that direction after looking a a bunch of ROMs.
This is gonna sound kind of dumb, but the reason that I'm holding on to the stock rooted ROM is just because of one active screen saver, and that's Windy Weather. Like when it's raining here, you get rain drops sliding down the inside of the glass. HA!
And believe it or not, I agonize over the small stuff... like whether or not I want to go with an AOSP or AOKP ROM.
Believe it or not, when I got done with massaging the stock ROM today, all of the junk that I had formerly removed through Titanium Backup were still gone even though it showed that it was all re-downloaded in the Notifications.
I just have a sneaking hunch that the Vonage VOIP App that I installed had "something" to do with my problem, so I have not reinstalled it, and I also destroyed all of the Play Store links with Titanium Backup and still no problem.
I'm still running the stock 4.1.2 stock ROM.
Even if I do go with CM, I'm a little worried that if I download Gapps, something in there just might want to gain control and zap my device again.
Anywhooo... for the last several hours, I'm not having any problems.
Thanks for your reply.

yeah anytime man thanks for explaining a little bit, well if you want to stay on stock like ROM i would recommend jedi mind trick, its pretty much stock but just removes the carrier bloatware and puts in a few custom goodies and should have your rain drop effect you want xD, i have been trying to find a link for you but i dont know what carrier you have, its a note 2 right? also, it rains in las vegas? lol come over to washington and see the difference.
Hello everyone
i think this is my first post or one of the first on this forum, i'm a videogame modder(vice-boss at VStanced.com) who for fun also mods/dismounts/analyzes everything that slips in his hands(like, seriously every single thing). I have a semi-good knowledge of java and from some years i'm learning more and more about android, yet(as you can see) i still need help from time to time to figure out some stuff.
So, enough of presentation, time to talk about what i came here for.
I've been gifted a Cubot X9 some days ago, so the first thing i did was rooting(Kingroot -> Supersu-me) and applying a custom recovery(TWRP), i backed up rom and nvram with sp flash tool and the base rom(just rooted and recovery-ed) from recovery to make sure that in case i f**kd up something i could restore it without issues.
After that i restored all the additional apps and a couple gapps(Google Play Store, Google Play Services, Google Account Manager, Google Latin Keyboard) from a backup(Titanium Backup) of my old phone, a LG P990(Optimus Dual/X2/Star/Speed) and it all worked straight at first try. As soon as i finished restoring these i got myself a new recovery backup to prevent having to redo everything once again.
At the moment there are still 4 things that "bother" me, i've not been able to install Dialer, Contacts and Messaging apps from that same backup(they're a lot more comfortable than Cubot's original ones) because they just f**k up the whole thing, after a restart(either with or without cache/dalvik cleanup) System starts flickering/turning on and off and with it the background and the SIM control(it stop receiving any signal/recognizing the sim and wont allow me to open the sim selector/editor - for dual sim mode).
I've installed the first two apps(Dialer and Contacts) flawlessly with a root explorer(ES file explorer) and after deleting all odex files related to the old apps they worked well, cant say the same for Messaging(Mms.apk), it works but as soon as i press either on a received message, on the "new message" button or on "setup" it crashes to desktop.
Moreover, i'm not able to install the data backup(i'm mainly interested in contacts and messages but also the calls history) from Titanium Backup otherwise i'll get those issues i said above.
Mind both phones are 4.4.4 and so are their apps, on the LG P990 i had installed Slimroms' Slimkat but those apps i named should all be stock Google KitKat's ones(correct me if i'm wrong) and thus should work 1:1 on any 4.4.4 OS. Should.
You may ask me why i dont simply use google's backup system, so here's the answer, it is because i just dislike uploading my personal data and i honestly prefer figuring out how to do stuff manually.
I tried moving the *.db files from the old phone but they either cause to not show any messages(mmssms.db) or to not receive signal/not recognize the sim(telephony.db).
I have also installed an app called WAPPushManager.apk(com.android.smspush) from the old phone because i thought it could be somehow connected with the crash from clicking on the new message button but nothing changed.
So now i'm kinda lost, i have no clue if i'm missing to delete/add some files, or replace/add some apps.
Here's a few pics of the apps of which i'm speaking
I hope someone will be able to help me out on this, thanks a lot everyone for even bothering reading all this drama. hahaha
Also, yeah, you noticed well, i said that there are 4 things that bother me but i talked only about 3 things so here's the 4th:
this is more like a random question than a real issue or anything else(since i didnt even try yet). I would like to get the system bar and options/setup menu from the old phone(LG P990 Slimkat) to the new one(Cubot X9) but i have no clue if it is doable or not and what it eventually implies.
I'm looking forward for some magic to happen, thanks again

Alright, i've been able to transfer all my contacts, calls and messages using an app called Super Backup, it did the trick quite quickly.
I still cant figure out why the Mms.apk wont work, i sent it over to a couple friends and all of them installed and used it right away. I am now almost sure the Cubot wont work correctly with it because it's dual-sim... in case there's anything(scripting wise) that can be done to make it work properly?
Well i kinda solved all my problems, for some reason that app just dont want to work on this phone, i downloaded another "kitkat 4.4 stock messaging app" from google play and it worked straight on... or almost, because for some reason that Super Backup program was messing my messages in a way that i had two threads for each person, one with sent and the other with received messages. Analyzing the *.xml file created by that tool i realized that it was using spaces between the numbers only for either received or sent messages(i didnt bother checking which of the two was it).
A basic example:
<sms address="+391234567890" time="22/gen/2016 09:18:58" date="1453450738028" type="1" body="THIS IS MY TEXT" read="1" service_center="+291234567890" name="" />
versus
<sms address="+39 123 45 67 890" time="22/gen/2016 09:18:58" date="1453450738028" type="1" body="THIS IS MY TEXT" read="1" service_center="+29 123 45 67 890" name="" />

It made so that the phone recognized those as different numbers and thus create the issue i said above.

Hey guys,
First of all i'm no developer..( yet ), but as an android user that needs root, I rely on nandroid backups as a last resort of restoration when a phone bricks, and i imagine that a lot of other users do the same, but there was never this AIO app that can get the job done, which is why i think our community needs to pitch in to make one for all of us.
I know there is apps out there that does what i'm seeking here but not quite there yet, most of these apps either does not have full support or simply left with no updates for years even though there was some great potential.
Now my goal here is either to revive an old app and somehow motivate the developer to support it and help it grow, or construct a new one from scratch.
Please let me know if you guys have any ideas or suggestions regarding this topic and if you think it is worth it for you or not.
Thanks
What do you mean? Isn't TWRP not enough for you? Could you explain a little bit more what function would you like to have in this app?

mmm I see... But correct me if I'm wrong, these are just my thoughts and I'm far from understand how Android works: I think that making a backup using TWRP is safer because everything is turned off, whereas backing up with the phone turned on might ends up with corrupt data (for example if you get a call while backing up the telephone app).

To be honest I have no idea... But it would seem like you are correct haha.
Guys, i think you misunderstood me, TWRP is a great tool to backup and i don't think there will be a better alternative, what i'm seeking here is an APP that can take the backups made by TWRP or CWM, and extract/restore what ever the user needs out of them individually.
apps that were aiming to do so but never really reached that goal is Titanium Backup, Nandroid Manager and others like it.
I hope that makes a bit more sense
anyone ?
Greetings!
Just picked up a Pixel 6a, coming from an LG-V30. Have been out of the custom ROM game since switching from a Nexus5 to the LG which had minimal custom ROM options (stock was really quite good).
With the Nexus5 I was used to doing full backups (boot/system/data) with TWRP so I could try out a new ROM and reverting to my original ROM (completely set up with all my apps and data) with very little effort or down time.
I've spent some time reading the forum and it doesn't look like TWRP is really a thing for the Pixel 6a and I've found very little info about making a similar "full" backup.
Does such an option exist?
I'd like to test drive LineageOS (and maybe one or two others, I was a huge fan of CyanogenMod in the past), but having spent the last several days getting things "just right" in my stock/rooted setup I'm not thrilled at the idea of doing it again just to try something that might not work out.
Not really looking for "Google Backup" style options, I would like a solution I can do 100% local to try something out and then easily and quickly revert if needed.
Thanks!
TWRP style full backup isnt possible anymore, but you can use Swift backup to do a TiBu style app backup. Between Swift and Google a clean flash isnt horrible, but yeah.....I definitely also miss the full backup option.
Hi!
You can try this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-root-adb-partition-backup-restore-tool-for-windows.4512231/
I could backup my Pixel 6a completely.
Sorry, but there is no such option. I have P6 and also miss TWRP or Clockwork kind of recovery solution. There is nothing similar (as far as I know) like what we had on previous phones... Now I use Swift backup for apps backup, but that's not what you looking for.
Thanks for the replies, even if they aren't what I was hoping for...
I have switched to Swift as well, too many issues with TiBU restoring data and ending up with force close problems.
Jan61 - Looks interesting, but I'm not sure it's ready for general use.
Typical Google, one step forward but two steps back for users who want to do more than just buy a phone.
Oh well, guess I will live with stock for a while and let Lineage get more stable (maybe even official).

As far as I know no, unfortunately.
"swift" is closed source software being distributed by somebody you can't hold accountable for any kind of security problems in the software. It has the capability of connecting to the internet even if you deny network permission (on an android distribution that has such option, obviously). I would HIGHLY recommend that you avoid this software.
Better backup software is *NEO Backup* (available on F-Droid), which is open source and quite auditable.

You mean like a Microsoft system
or an apple system
Both are closed source
I don't vouch for swift backup, I tried it and most of my restored apps crashed repeatedly / didn't backup correctly. I am still looking for a good backup android solution that works similar to windows system image backups.
I've used it since day one
I've never had a problem with it
I've been using a Google phone since day one
The only backup problem I ever had was tibu
That was the biggest piece of **** there was

Both are hideously untrustworthy, but at least you can hold them accountable for data theft.

It has the capability of connecting to the internet even if you deny network permission (on an android distribution that has such option, obviously).

Curious, does that include being blocked by a a rooted system level firewall (AFWall+/iptables)?
I've never trusted Google's "toggles" to turn things off properly.
And FWIW - You (as an individual user) are as likely to hold crApple/Micro$oft accountable as you would the author of Swift for any data theft.
EDIT - That said, I will give NEO a look, options are always good to have available.
NEO requires root
Maybe this helps someone.
I do full backup with:
- Plug phone into PC and copy each folder down. Sometimes you have to go one-by-one, or a few folders at once, or Windows just freezes up. Once all copied, great.
- Use Super Backup app from Play Store to make a backup of everything. Calendar, Call Logs, Contacts, etc.
Once all done:
Use the phone's built-in migration solution IF same brand; IF not, use Google app to transfer/migrate. This will copy most of your app settings and whatnot to your new device. (I skip pictures, etc.) To copy over pictures, I just use Windows and the previously made backup to copy over the DCIM folder for example.
And that's it, works flawless for me.

Non-issue, I rooted the phone the day I got it.
I won't own a phone that can't be rooted.

I do something similar for migration, but I'm not looking for a one time migration. I want to be able to bounce around on a couple custom ROMs for a day or two and then settle on the one I like. Used to be easy with TWRP backup to image the entire phone in a single step, not so much any more.

Root can bypass *everything*. No exception. That includes either switching to a different user to work around firewall rules, or even adjusting the rules to suit. Selinux? "setenforce 0".
As far as holding the fruit company or vaxx pushers accountable, keep in mind that its not just YOU needing to hold them accountable, but EVERYBODY ELSE harmed by their software. So yes, it will come to something VERY substantial.

If it's more than just individuals (ie. class action lawsuit), the only ones who get anything "substantial" are the lawyers.
You'll get a coupon for 10% off your next i-Thing or Windoze "upgrade", the lawyers will get the cash.

You assume that the objective is to get a payday, when the objective is actually to punish them for bad behavior.
