[Q] Upgrading from HC to ICS .. P6800 ~ 7.7 - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guyez ..
i just bought a new galaxy tab 7.7 3G / WiFi (P6800)
it comes with Honey Comb 3.2 .. i have to say it's a little laggy
saw that there r ICS versions out .. so i was thinking to upgrade from HC to ICS .. but got many questions
1- what's the best ICS out yet ? there r LQ1, LQ2 and LP5 i think
2- is it safe to make wipes ? saw there is brick bug and i don't want to lose the tab i just bought .. saw that there is a safe kernel or CWM .. somthing like that
3- is ICS better than HC in general ? heared that ICS is way faster and smoother than HC
thanks in advance for who will answer my questions .. i really appreciate it cuz i just bought the tab and dunno any thing yet

On LQ1 here. ICS IMO is much smoother and responsive than HC. I flashed (after rooting) the Austria ICS ROM from samfirmware.com then installed TWRP. All is well on my unit. Let mobileODIN do all the work. If I recall I didn't wipe Davik or cache.
Follow steps exactly and all should be well.

TWRP is a custom recovery. Read about it here
mobileODIN is, IMO, the closest thing to "fool-proof" ODIN one can get. It almost won't let you do anything that would bork your flash. Very handy. And doesn't require using a computer. Works on your tab.
I've not needed to install any kernels. If I felt the need, I can assure you MUCH research would be in order before wiping anything. Many have been reporting Superbrick occurrences (or similar).

so there is no way to make wipe safely ? what if i want to wipe .. ?

i believe you can wipe all you want to, as long as you're on HC.....
Do not wipe anything on ICS....
do all your wipes and resets on HC first..
then flash LRQ..
all done... fresh install.. don't wipe after ICS install..

Okey .. thanks for ur answer
The reason i was asking that i got the same problem on my galaxy note
ICS kernels r buggy and will brick the note if i wiped on them .. and to avoid that i flash safe kernel (GB kernel) then reboot recovery then wipe
And after wiping on the GB kernel .. i flash any ICS kernel back

Admittedly, I have not read ALL the posts on those who have has issues and those who have not. Personally, unless the flash requires a wipe, seldom do I wipe (except Dalvik). Some have reported "leftover files and whatnot" from repeated previous flashing that would require wipes but I've not encountered a situation that absolutely required a full wipe.
I tend to approach android as I do medicine..do the least needed to avoid problematic interactions!

what about full reset from settings? is it dangerous too?

Hi ! Can I flash a different country's ROM on my tab 7.7 (saudi / middle east) as ICS is officially still not available for the middle east. Are the firmwares available on http://www.sammobile.com/firmware & http://samsung-updates.com/ genuine and risk free ? If yes, then how do I flash it on the tablet.
Sorry for the questions, still a newbie

No problem. Know that there are ALWAYS risks modifying stock ROMs in all android devices. Odds are all goes well...but not always.
That said as long as you use a compatible ROM all should be well. My tab is running the Austrian ROM and has been running flawlessly.

3G Data Counter App for Galaxy R

Hi,
Has anyone found a 3G Data counter app working reliably on Galaxy R. I wanted to try “3G WATCHDOG” but its not compatible with Galaxy R. I have also tried other apps- ONOVO, TRAFFIC MONITOR, etc. but all seems to give crooked readings.
Please help as I am getting ripped by my 3G carrier and I usually don’t have a clue where I have utilized by data limit.

Dear Akshat,
Thanks for the reply. i have been contemplating of flashing my device as well, though there are few doubts. First of all wat did u mean by flash adarats kernel? Does it only means flashing the device with a new custom rom. Sorry I am bit naïve with android.
Secondly, wat custom ROM options do we have? CM7 is not out for Galaxy R yet?
Thirdly I am not sure if I should void my warranty by rooting the device. You see my device already has a issue- restarting anytime for no reasons apparent to me. Will this be resolved if I flash my device or should I first get my device fixed under the warranty,
Again thanks a lot

[Help] Installing my first Custom Rom.

Hi good day everyone! Ive decided to install my first custom rom ever in my i9003. But after reading comments, post.. Still not sure of the procedures. What should i do first? Any suggestions? What cRoms is perfect (theming, faster, no bugs esp. wifi) Please? Thanks.
Question: Ive recently done the procedures about external-internal swap, if i installed a new rom, should i repeat the step? or its fixed already?
PDA: i9003JPKPH
PHONE: i9003JXKP3
CSC: i9003OJPKPC
Thanks!
if you may, please include a link.
i too had my first custom ROM a few days back
welcome to the n00bies club hehehe
so far i felt satisfied with poseidon rom which you can find in developers section for our phone model
i would go for cyanogen or miui soon if and when all the bugs are fixed
as for sd card swap i have not tried it or messed with it
if you pick the custom rom youwant, they also come with installing and flashing guide from the developer, just follow those carefully. and you should be careful with the stock rom you use and your custom rom you want since they comewith compatibility issues when different
bro pinoy? thanks. after changing the rom should i root it again?
Every rom has its own features, and all of those are clearly mentioned on in OP..
So if u have any doubts just go to the specific rom thread, GO THROUGH THE OP AND A FEW PAGES AND if u still have any doubts, then post ur questions there (coz most of them don't have a separate q&a thread).. You'll get 1st hand answers instead of 'maybe '
or 'maybe not '..
All ur questions should have already been answered if u go through the thread clearly.. Cheers..
If u r root u only need use CWM to intall the cRoom, it means u dont loose root, but first I'll put KPQ stock room, is the most used version in cRooms actually.

if you change stock ROM firmwares then yes you need to root again.
just follow the guides in the custom ROM you want.
but if you plan to install a Custom ROM and you already are rooted, then no you dont have to root it again.

happy flashing
Maybe i should go first to xxkpq. So i need to flash xxkpe first right? According to the guide i saw, i should flash .PIT then next is the PDA CSC AND PHONE right? after that clearing the cache. then reboot. According to the guide again i should do it twice. so should i flash .pit again?
one more thing, after changing firmware, does my external sd card will return AS EXTERNAL again? coz i've done the swapping method. Thanks.
here is step by step guide by misledz(credits to him) with XXKPE >> XXKPQ
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
but if you need to flash XXKPE the second time ... you dont need to include the pit file BUT you also have to uncheck repartition box if pit file is not included.

Different phones may have different preferences, for example my brother's i9003 used to hang a lot on one rom(I don't want to mention the rom). However it was stable on mine. Then I flashed for him clean kpu and he told me it was more stable than ever. So just try out different roms, dont be afraid! It'll fun .

[SOLVED] Will a brickbug affected ICS P6200 hardbrick upon rooting?

Hello,
ICS was not flashed on this tablet (updated through kies or is this method dangerous/considered flashing as well?) and I am not planning on flashing a custom mod after the root (I mainly want to use adb without root restrictions), so this bug should not affect my device because the sticky on the development section says "...should refrain from flashing any type of ICS ROM or ODIN package" and mentions nothing about how rooting the tablet causes the problem, right?
I am also asking this because the steps (from the thread below) on rooting a P6200 running ICS are similar to those of a factory reset which can cause this problem and because CWM is needed/recommended (do I need it? does it flash safely?) only for rooting ICS and not for rooting Honeycomb as it was not included in the OP of the tutorial thread on rooting honeycomb in the android development section.
Also, would a root hinder my ability to update the p6200 with kies to a possible jellybean in the future?

To make it short: No!
The danger of such a brick only occurs, when u try to wipe/format/flash in stock 3e recovery. Especially in leaked ICS stock ROMs. You are totally safe when using custom recovery like aorth's cwm 6.0.1.0. I have that bad emmc revision too, and were flashing firmwares and root a plenty of times now. Still good.
Anyhow, someone released a emmc partition scanner in N7000 forums a couple of days ago(those guys have that problem too). It scans for bricked blocks in your partition. Looks like we have a way to soft fix this soon. Original xda news: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/partition-scanner-helps-your-emmc-bricked-devices/

I read a bit through it, and it actually IS a solution around bricked blocks after emmc brick bug already. He even provides PIT's for p6200 and WiFi only version.
So if u know Linux a bit, you can actually fix it by yourself.
Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667886
And don't worry about OTA updates from Samsung, I am running jellybean on my tab already and believe me: even with a few bugs its a thousand times better than the ICS stock bloatware ROM. I was thinking like you too. Than I got the official ICS update after months of waiting and I thought: *WTF is this??? This is even more crappy than honeycomb!!* So I downloaded CM9 from aorth, flashed it and: * yeah, this is much much better and smoother*
Now I am running JB 4.1.1 CM10 from aorth and iam happy even more!! =D.

I thought all flashes with an ICS p6200 will cause the brickbug, this will allow me to do much more than rooting with my device. Many thanks for clearing that up and for the news/thread about the brickbug (I definitely will look into that) .

It certainly was a long wait for ICS, I guess stock JB will take just as long (maybe even longer because of the galaxy tab2). I will try flashing JB/CM10 but I better familiarize myself with linux commands and android in general first, just in case I will need to fix something.

I highly doubt we will ever see stock jb... You don't really need to know Linux c though, it helps, but not necessary. I'm running aorth's jb on my tab and honestly it's probably better than anything that Samsung could put out. I've always been a fan of aosp, and cm will be the closest we will get to that.

That explains it. The rom by vincom is very much stock, i think he switched out the kernel for a better one and you won't be needing rogers bloat in middle east.
If xcrazydx is antisocial then you have a major attitude problem and i have a patience issue But this is all irrelevant, you should just try because there's not too many middleeasterners here

No. .Vincom did not just change the kernel. ..I tried his cwm flashable rom and that's not the way I'm comfortable with. ..I like to custom the stock to my liking. . He removed so many things from the official rom. It is like his superlite roms..I like to do things by myself if I'm going stock. .. Sure I don't need the Rogers bloat but stil I need the arabic language which he deleted from his cwm flashable jb rom.And it is not about middle east or not , it's about a keyboard from The galaxy s2 being compatible or not with skyrocket..btw I'm not living in the middle east..
Now for the attitude, I don't need anybody to come to my thread and just throw stupid comments to just ruin the purpose rather than being helpful..

Okay. here's vincoms CWM zip "FULL BLOAT, NOTHING WAS REMOVED AFAIK". So it's nothing like the superlite roms.
You said that you need to unpack middleeastern tar and try that keyboard on a skyrocket (which only has between 3-4 languages and it NEVER had arabic). Only AOSP/AOKP roms have all languages. Maybe there will be a confilct or issue with languague compatibility. Since there aren't too many middleeasterners here, i'm thinking not too many has tried this specific operation. I don't know about others but i don't care if you're a middleeasterner, i'm talking technology not geography. You're a bit edgy man, calm done, we're not out to get you wallah habibi :good:

Does anyone have link to ICS .tar?

Having some problems with Jellybean 4.1.2 and want to flash back to stock on ICS. Anyone have a link to that .tar? Can't seem to find it.
Thanks!
How did you get to 4.1.
If you are having issues before going all the way back to ics.. I would first (of course of you have not done so already) .
Install custom recovery..
Boot into recovery and format data system and all..
then odin a FULL NOT UPGRADE JELLY BEAN..
sometimes upgrading does not work right if you have been using the device a long time..
iF YOU HAVE Done the above sorry . not trying to make you look like you do not know the tablet or android..You also might want to post what your issues are . Someone else might be having them too and worked them out..
Good Luck... ics files are on Sam mobile. by the way..
