[Help] Installing my first Custom Rom. - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Hi good day everyone! Ive decided to install my first custom rom ever in my i9003. But after reading comments, post.. Still not sure of the procedures. What should i do first? Any suggestions? What cRoms is perfect (theming, faster, no bugs esp. wifi) Please? Thanks.
Question: Ive recently done the procedures about external-internal swap, if i installed a new rom, should i repeat the step? or its fixed already?
PDA: i9003JPKPH
PHONE: i9003JXKP3
CSC: i9003OJPKPC
Thanks!
if you may, please include a link.

i too had my first custom ROM a few days back
welcome to the n00bies club hehehe
so far i felt satisfied with poseidon rom which you can find in developers section for our phone model
i would go for cyanogen or miui soon if and when all the bugs are fixed
as for sd card swap i have not tried it or messed with it
if you pick the custom rom youwant, they also come with installing and flashing guide from the developer, just follow those carefully. and you should be careful with the stock rom you use and your custom rom you want since they comewith compatibility issues when different

bro pinoy? thanks. after changing the rom should i root it again?

Every rom has its own features, and all of those are clearly mentioned on in OP..
So if u have any doubts just go to the specific rom thread, GO THROUGH THE OP AND A FEW PAGES AND if u still have any doubts, then post ur questions there (coz most of them don't have a separate q&a thread).. You'll get 1st hand answers instead of 'maybe '
or 'maybe not '..
All ur questions should have already been answered if u go through the thread clearly.. Cheers..

If u r root u only need use CWM to intall the cRoom, it means u dont loose root, but first I'll put KPQ stock room, is the most used version in cRooms actually.

yep pinoy...kababayan?
if you change stock ROM firmwares then yes you need to root again.
just follow the guides in the custom ROM you want.
but if you plan to install a Custom ROM and you already are rooted, then no you dont have to root it again.

happy flashing

Maybe i should go first to xxkpq. So i need to flash xxkpe first right? According to the guide i saw, i should flash .PIT then next is the PDA CSC AND PHONE right? after that clearing the cache. then reboot. According to the guide again i should do it twice. so should i flash .pit again?
one more thing, after changing firmware, does my external sd card will return AS EXTERNAL again? coz i've done the swapping method. Thanks.

here is step by step guide by misledz(credits to him) with XXKPE >> XXKPQ
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
but if you need to flash XXKPE the second time ... you dont need to include the pit file BUT you also have to uncheck repartition box if pit file is not included.

Different phones may have different preferences, for example my brother's i9003 used to hang a lot on one rom(I don't want to mention the rom). However it was stable on mine. Then I flashed for him clean kpu and he told me it was more stable than ever. So just try out different roms, dont be afraid! It'll fun .

[Q] ROMs...

this is my first time flashin A Rom,n i would like to know which is the best ROM for a beginner like me thanks
Btw i installed Ryans one click lag fix and im running Eclair 2.1 update 1 , i897ucjh7
Kernel version: 2.6.29.
They are all about the same when it comes to flashing. after that its usually personal preference. Be sure to read the stickies and they will telly you everything you need to know.

This will get locked because each Rom performs differently on each device. There really is no way to tell you which is best. Please read the rom threads and flash one to see how you like it.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Shouldn't of done that, flash to stock using the odin one click restore then install a rom of your choice, there's plenty to choose from.

apps can be backed up and reinstalled on new fw. what mods are you using that would be "unrecoverable" if you switched? what fw are you on and why do you want to switch?
do you have something in mind that you want on dxkp9 instead of going to kpq instead?

Apps can be restored . Yes. I am ok with that. Mods arent unrecoverable. But would take quite long to apply all again. And i dun have that luxury. I am on my custom rom. I want to switch so i can develop and work on the rom as well as testing it. U not kpq?? Cos kp9 is of my own region.

flashing different fw may affect those mods, unless you know there will be no conflict at all. so you want to port your ROM to another fw is what you're saying, right? I don't know if dxkp9 s more stable than xxkp9, but it if is, and it's your region, I say why not. but based on how many custom roms get made for different fw, kpq is the best for the most recent fw.

Unbrick help needed

I screwed up and put vibrant firmware on the S 4g and now the phone stuck in a boot loop. It seems like I can still connect to the phone using Odin. So my guess is that I have to put the stock software back. Any help identifying the right file? Whatever I can find is all for rooted phones and for Voodoo.
I didn't root the phone, so I don't know if I can flash it with anything but stock. I don't know what Voodoo is, but I didn't install it.
You can flash any odin flashable rom.....look in the stickies in the developement section.....but some say you should flash a stock rom.....i flash back to ravers stock gb rom when i feel a need

You rock, dude! Thanks a lot!
The phone is operational after I completed steps 1-8b. I wasn't sure if I needed to do the rest since I don't have a "favorite GB ROM". Nor do I know what it is for that matter . I guess I need to do some reading during my spare time unless you care to tell me what GB ROM is and what my favorite GB ROM should be.
So, what do I have on my phone after these steps? What's kc1 and k6? Am I rooted at this point?

KC1 is Froyo and KJ6 is GB.
Finally it occurred to me that gb is Gingerbread...
The question remains: Am I rooted at this point? Also, is the GB FBis251 recommended pure stock or with some additional flavor? Why doesn't kies recognize the phone?
I recommend you stay on Gingerbread. Follow the guide all the way through and you'll be on rooted stock KJ6 (Gingerbread 2.3.6). You can also try out some custom ROMs at that point. Check out the development section, there are around 5 actively developed roms right now.

people at dev section said wifi buggy after root for XXLE4, there are still not yet confirm the bug is fixed.
so if you want to try the stock rom wiht TW4, you can flash your favalable stock rom and root and replace TW.
and yes, in XXLE4 you not getting photo short while video recording function, and face unlock some people complain is buggy.

must you have XXLE4 ? if not stay at XXKPQ and replace the TW
FYI, in our SL history, most active firmware version is XXKPE and XXKPQ.
XXKPE is 4 file firmware, if facing any problem flash it back.
XXKPQ is 1 file firmware, now alot of rom and development is using this fw.
so, keeping both fw as backup will help you alot.
than you can starting to tryout different rom, to see which one you like most.

[Q] Upgrading from HC to ICS .. P6800 ~ 7.7

it comes with Honey Comb 3.2 .. i have to say it's a little laggy
saw that there r ICS versions out .. so i was thinking to upgrade from HC to ICS .. but got many questions
1- what's the best ICS out yet ? there r LQ1, LQ2 and LP5 i think
2- is it safe to make wipes ? saw there is brick bug and i don't want to lose the tab i just bought .. saw that there is a safe kernel or CWM .. somthing like that
3- is ICS better than HC in general ? heared that ICS is way faster and smoother than HC
thanks in advance for who will answer my questions .. i really appreciate it cuz i just bought the tab and dunno any thing yet

On LQ1 here. ICS IMO is much smoother and responsive than HC. I flashed (after rooting) the Austria ICS ROM from samfirmware.com then installed TWRP. All is well on my unit. Let mobileODIN do all the work. If I recall I didn't wipe Davik or cache.
Follow steps exactly and all should be well.

TWRP is a custom recovery. Read about it here
mobileODIN is, IMO, the closest thing to "fool-proof" ODIN one can get. It almost won't let you do anything that would bork your flash. Very handy. And doesn't require using a computer. Works on your tab.
I've not needed to install any kernels. If I felt the need, I can assure you MUCH research would be in order before wiping anything. Many have been reporting Superbrick occurrences (or similar).

i believe you can wipe all you want to, as long as you're on HC.....
Do not wipe anything on ICS....
do all your wipes and resets on HC first..
then flash LRQ..
all done... fresh install.. don't wipe after ICS install..

The reason i was asking that i got the same problem on my galaxy note
ICS kernels r buggy and will brick the note if i wiped on them .. and to avoid that i flash safe kernel (GB kernel) then reboot recovery then wipe
And after wiping on the GB kernel .. i flash any ICS kernel back

Admittedly, I have not read ALL the posts on those who have has issues and those who have not. Personally, unless the flash requires a wipe, seldom do I wipe (except Dalvik). Some have reported "leftover files and whatnot" from repeated previous flashing that would require wipes but I've not encountered a situation that absolutely required a full wipe.
I tend to approach android as I do medicine..do the least needed to avoid problematic interactions!

Hi ! Can I flash a different country's ROM on my tab 7.7 (saudi / middle east) as ICS is officially still not available for the middle east. Are the firmwares available on http://www.sammobile.com/firmware & http://samsung-updates.com/ genuine and risk free ? If yes, then how do I flash it on the tablet.

No problem. Know that there are ALWAYS risks modifying stock ROMs in all android devices. Odds are all goes well...but not always.
That said as long as you use a compatible ROM all should be well. My tab is running the Austrian ROM and has been running flawlessly.
