[Free][3D]Zombie Nights[Awesome] - Android Apps and Games

Hello everybody I'm new to the development scene and this is my first release which I am offering free for now. Here's a link to the Google play store, I would love to hear feedback and suggestions. It's a first person zombie survival game, but this one's actually coming out good(or so I've been told). I should mention it's in beta and its called Zombie Nights. Here's the link enjoy, and thanks for reading.
Here's the link to for screenshots and download(Google Play Store)
I'll be monitoring this thread if you have any suggestions that you would like to see in the game. Currently I'm working on the multiplayer and adding random missions during the night while fighting off zombies.
Thanks again.
EDIT: mini Update on post #30

I'm still here I just havent released an update because I've been busy with fall semester, however I'm currently working on it right now and will release an update within the next few days. Thanks for bumping the thread . I'll update this thread as soon as its released and I can answer questions and suggestions still. Here are some screen shots I took earlier for the interested.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to fix the lag I've already reduced it a lot from the first build, the only thing I can think of trying now is using occlusion culling.
Thanks again for checking it out hopefully I can fix this issue soon.

Looks like it's gonna be like DayZ (never played it but I want to!), it's very laggy on my Galaxy SII, but it's underclocked to the max, so that may be why. The graphics look good, can't wait for it to smoothen up .

Yeah, definitely because it's underclocked I've tested it on an SII it runs good. The funny thing is I didn't find out about Day-Z until I was halfway into the game but that's basically what I was going for with the multiplayer. I have a windows and mac beta already running really smooth that connect to a multiplayer server which is cross platform for the android, windows, mac, and web browser. The multiplayer is basically gonna be kind of like Day-Z but I'm gonna try to add more dynamic environment events. Also Zombie Nights is full supports all features cross platform. I started writing this for android first so I can make the android experience as immerse as the desktop version.
Thanks again.

Hey thanks for checking it out and the feedback, I'm starting to focus on optimizing the code to fix the lag on some devices. The 3D assets are pretty much 90% optimized so I feel like the lag on some devices is simply inefficient code.
The game seems to really run smooth on HTC devices mostly, but again I'm working to make it run smooth on all popular devices.
Thanks again.

Hey thanks for offering this for free - excited to give it a shot after the d/l finishes.
One thing I noticed from screenshots though is that the "Next" button looked a little close to the directions arrows. Though that's just speculation because I haven't played it for real yet.
:good:

"your device isn't compatible with this version"
CM7.2 (2.3.7) stock dpi (240)...
any help? maybe give me the apk to side-load it?

No problem it's ad supported so I was thinking of a cheap 99 cent or 1.99 for those who really can't stand ads but I've made them to be as non intrusive as possible i.e. they'll never show up at night when you have to kill zombies or something.
Thanks.

yes, it's the first app to say that.
tested the game (no night time yet, no time).
game has a little... jump in performance.
controls are really hard, and sometimes stick to going right or left.
graphics are awesome.

Thank you. It's still in a relativity early beta this has been about four months of work, but I'm constantly improving code and graphics overhead.

Thank you glad to hear you got it running, and I am happy to say that I found the root cause for the lag and performance issues on most phones, it's the draw call count my game goes from 400 during the day to a whopping 700 at night and in order to keep it running smooth on androids and iPhones the draw calls should remain below 80. So needless to say I have a ton of optimization that needs to be done but I already started working on it and hopefully soon the game will be completely re hauled to fix the performance issues. But I have two exams next week(Discrete Math and Probability and statistics for engineers, yikes) that will slow down the process a bit, but I assure you(and everyone reading)I will fix all the performance issues.
Thanks again everyone for showing interest and giving me good feedback. XDA is an awesome community. I'll still be answering questions and taking suggestions.

Cool idea Keep it up!

There's a store for ammo if you cross the bridge and go right its the last building closest to the water, also at night that store closes so you can find more ammo in the ally adjacent to the ammo store but it costs double at night(To keep things interesting I guess haha).
I know it may be confusing to figure tings out because there is no tutorial mode or help, but I plan to add an optional tutorial in level 1 or help section in the main menu.

Just downloaded and looking forward to its improvements in the future. Only thing I would say is when you come to pricing to remove ads remember that at 1.99 you may get 1,000 who pay, at 0.99 you get 10,000+ who will pay. Most rooted phones have ad remove programs and if they don't work people are more likely to just delete or live with it. I understand the work and effort that goes into these things so a small charge is more than reasonable but I've seen more than a few apps that I've deleted rather than pay silly amounts. Of course you can charge what you want but just my thoughts.
Oh and good luck with the exams fella.

IF This isn't enough to hold us off 'till unlock I don't know what is!

Slowly but surely we r getting some serious upgrades without s-off or bootloader unlocked. Custom Roms are out now that dont use recovery. I'm scoring 5400 on Quadrant 2nd run with my Overclocked 1.8ghz De bloated, ultra fast rosie, de-odexed, zip aligned, advanced power menu, Free Tether havin themed HOX..This is for sure enough to hold us over till we get a real unlock!! Devs just started doing it like this...
It's only going to get better! Everyone wanting to return their phones because we aren't unlocked yet should think twice! What more do you want in the 3rd week after launch? Most of these new tweaks and roms have come out today. Wait till the end of the week and see how much better this is gonna be..

The devs are certainly doing a great job considering the state of the bootloader.
I'd like to see a CPU spy report of the OC module to see if it's utilizing other clock speeds effectively.
What about a Passmark Performance test? Those seem to be very thorough in their tests.
On my stock HOX I was getting somewhere around 2200-2300.
So, you get this beasty phone that beats all benchmarks, yet you can't do much on it, because everything is being FC...how ironic is that?

I personally havent had any negative effect of the multitasking issues if that is what you are referring to. If you are saying apps are FCing as in having errors, havent had any problems with that either. So what are you talking about? So far i can do everything i want to do, everything i was doing on my sensation which was OC'd to 1.7. it felt like a 5 year old device compared to this one. If it isnt working for you, return it. Its doing fine for me. Best phone i've ever used. The multitasking issue will get fixed. The International version is already significantly better with their first update. I stream music daily in my car and have never had the service stop. i also use minfree and v6superscript which both help the mt woes.

I tried messing around with Minfreemanager, but it ended up making my phone lock-up on a fairly regular basis, presumably because it couldn't get the free RAM it needed. Am I the only one having that problem? Are you on 1.82?

Yeah, I'm on 1.82. I've used both the mild and default presets with no issues. Multitasking is working a lot better now to point where it's not really bothersome at all.

I'm new here, I'm not trying to be snarky, I'm just seriously struggling with "multitasking woes" personally and there are so many saying that it "doesn't bother them," I'm trying to figure out if it's something that I'm doing wrong or they're doing right or what.

Welcome to XDA! I did have issues before running minfree. I could start a text message, exit with the home button, re-enter the app, and it would start over. Running minfree has resolved this issue. I'm not a big gamer on mobile, but I did test the before and after with Angry Birds Space. Before, it would completely refresh when exiting the app and re-entering, but now I can open several apps before it completely refreshes. It's not perfect, but has made it very tolerable. Also, I have either disabled or removed any of the AT&T or HTC bloat.

I know this isn't the place for this question, but : I know changing bootloaders (if it were unlocked) means you won't get updates from AT&T, but does rooting have the same side effect? Or can you still receive OTA updates from AT&T after rooting?

That I'm not sure about, but you can run the 1.82 RUU again which will remove root and the tampered flag in the bootloader.
With being overclocked to 1.8, how is your battery life?

When entering landscape and exiting landscape on the LG launcher it force closes for some reason.
Some LG generic icons show till a reboot happens ( first boot only )
LG Music widget isn't working ( looking for an easy fix or removal ).
*Tweaks*
There are some tweaks too like long hold of power while screen is off activates torch.
Pressing the camera button while screen is off and music is playing will pause/play current track.
The rom looks like cm9 other than launcher so I dunno if you would consider it a port lol...

I just want to be sure before I get to deep with it. And like I said I don't have much info other than what's here was pulled from an LG ICS leaked system dump. It was done for the evo shift and I talk to the dev all the time so I'm going to see if I can help him iron out his issues along the way of this one because I also support that phone with a different ROM/kernel. I don't want to get ahead of myself, I'm busy till Sunday but wanted feed back on the idea. In the mean time I'm going to run what I have just to get a feel for it and the bugs it has. Once I get a chance to look at the dump ill be able to see if there are little pieces left out that could/would be causing the force close issues with a couple things. Or they could just be broke that's why its a leak anyways I'm off to bed for a change

Best bet would be to post in development section regarding this. I don't think much of the flash junkies ever visit the general sub forum unless they have some problems with their device! lol!
Anyways a Work in Progress is already considered as development right? So I don't think that would make it offtopic.

Sense is heavy and bloated. I really hate that about it. What really draws me to this is that its based on Cyanogenmod. CM has really nice tweaks and features, some I've come to feel I can't live without nowadays. I don't think there's a device I could get and not use CM on it. This would be a really nice change from stock CM for me

Thanks Strapped. Family comes first.
::Respect::
I'd love to take a look at that one myself Strapped. Looks a bit different. Seems to have some visual enhancement to it too but I can't quite put my finger on just what.....maybe something about the app drawer icon shading. And to be honest with you I've always been a bigger fan of CM9 derivatives than the original. No offense to the CyanogenMod team tho..........
Love to see YOU get your hands on this one! :good:
Yeah I def need to figure something out. Its a port from a system dump, to the evo shifts cm9 rom, then ported from that device to ours. Its running the LG launcher and also the motoblur ics launcher. Of course the LG widgets won't run on the MoTo launcher but there are no MoTo widgets. Hopefully I can find parts around the net for both lauchers to be complete(high hopes). I will say its a def change from the standard cm ROM. Last battery only got about 10 hours with 3 hours screen on but I'm thinking all the youtube videos my daughter watched today played a big role in that, so after a full day of running no new bugs have popped up. And since this is gonna get atleast some usage I can have the mod lock/delete this soon and just start a dev thread for the ROM once I get it up
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
That already sounds VERY promising! I'd be happy to apply as an "Orkin Man" on the project for you if you need anyone. It looks to be a VERY different ROM from what any of us are used to seeing!

Man everywhere I turn its like I can't make a decision on what to touch. I have the aokp the paranoid-android,MikTouch and MikXE for this device then Supreme Sense and an aokp for the speedy, along with trying to get my speedy source updated on git so I can post there tweaked kernel with no low level battery cap. I've had it done for about a month but then the slave got wiped so I have to reproduce a source without compiling again since some major changes happened and now my commands won't turn the zImage into a boot-new.img correctly
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using Tapatalk 2
MAN! That's awful. I sure do hope it's not a mechanical issue with your slave drive otherwise there may be other issues looming on the horizon.
It sounds to me like you're juggling chainsaws right now.....even more than I realized. I don't know how you keep it all straight in your head! When I take on more than one project at a time it reaaally messes with me.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate yours and the other developers time & efforts that call the DS "home". And I also understand that even though you have a perfectionist living inside you, this is a very nice ROM even with the few issues that are haunting you. I guess I've just gotten used to using a few very easy workarounds to the point I hardly notice them anymore. When you decide to, this is going to be one that people like myself appreciate more than some others will. Being that, there really is a minority group of us that just likes the derivative ROMs generated from the CyanogenMod code really better than the "original" in most cases. Even though it's mostly just a launcher change in your mind....this is definately one of the ROMs. :good:

:good:

Well in that case..... I got some cabinets to hang today, and measure to downsize a Window and once that's done I'll upload.......
And the bigger issues I can see coming faster than I could have imaged. I have a windows hd now thanks to you. And it will boot up just fine with the slave attached, but Linux will no longer boot with thee slave attached, it actually freezes because I have to hit esc to enter my boot menu to choose what drive to boot :banghead:

I'm glad to hear that! And very soon there will be lots of us that will be glad too. I run it on a pretty regular basis myself simply because the things I use regularly do work so well. Besides, over the past couple of months we've had several programmers with varying degrees of abilities move in here with us that I can forsee them wanting to see if they can figure out those very few issues that you really just don't have the time to right now. That is, if you don't mind. We DO have a very healthy community attitude here for the DS ya know.
I wish I knew something to tell you about your slave drive issue though. Would physically setting it to "drive select" instead of "slave" with the jumpers have any affect on it?

Native Ubuntu on the Galaxy s3 Please Read

Alright so im going to start by just saying that i had a similar project going with the galaxy nexus but I ran into kernel panic issues, that and I just got busy with life( school, work, job, etc). Now my time has freed up due to my last semester in school. So I am looking to pick this project back up but for the galaxy s3 Verizon...
Now i already have a compiled image based on the Ubuntu Leo originally created for the HD2( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOPu6DgbOs4 ) ......... this week i will be working on a kernel.
Now the image itself has been modified slightly from the hd2 version,...I will be looking for devs to help me with a kernel if this is you and you would be interested in helping please pm me. if you would like to alpha this also pm me ill start a list in this thread. Looking to get this going quick. ill have the image up by the end of the week if anyone is interested in experimenting with it. and i'm hoping for an alpha stage build by the end of the month.
If you have any questions just ask away.
Project Ubuntu
What you need to know
There is plans on having fully 3g/4g capability
Plans on MMS Capability
This is not a direct full desktop port. Its a modified/ optimized for armed devices based on the image used with the HD2
It will use a Linux based android Kernel
If you would like to Alpha this please PM me, and if you would like to help with the kernel ( I could use the help) also PM me.
I will update with progress later, and update with more details later. The point in doing this is the exact same as it has been in the past....because it would be pretty flipping awesome and secondly this would open Ubuntu up, it would offer up just another OS option.
PLEASE VIEW THE VIDEO TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THE BUILD IS LIKEHERE
Awesome.
I have a question though. Will the OS boot as a stand alone operating system or will it boot inside android?
my tapatalk signature sucks more than yours.
It will be a stand alone no chrooted. It to start will run along side android booting from the sdcard like a dual boot set up. After beta it will be flashed in place of android
Sounds great

Sounds cool but what is the point of doing it on a phone? It would be impossible to use. Should do it for the Nex10.

It is very possible to use, I have chroot linux mint running on my phone right now.
I direct port would make much smoother and more compatible as well. Just imagine connecting a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and hooking up to your tv. Extremely portable linux machine.

I don't see how it would work since everything would be shrunk down and hard to tap on. Also still not portable as you would need to carry around a mouse and keyboard. Just my opinion. Once again cool idea but i don't see it as being useful on such a small screen.

First off try looking at the youtube video.... the port its self has been modified for armed devices ( hense the youtube video) Second the version of ubuntu my image is based off of does have 3g capability writing a module to use with 4g wouldn't be to difficult. Third just to make this clear when beta is released it will have MMS Capability, and Phone capability. Again look at the youtube video. its not a direct port from the desktop version its an optimized and modified for armed devices.

I'm not trying to upset anyone so don't flame me. I just don't see how it will work on a phone. I'll keep my mouth shut and try it when its released.
Good work and great idea! I would be more than happy to test the beta of this out...I need reliability, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to go through the alpha paces for more than a day.

Sounds like a cool idea! Very interesting to have a different flavor for your phone OS. I'd love to be on that alpha list.

Hey guys sorry for the delay in response.... I I am officially done with classes as of Fridayso..
Secondly tmr ill be updating the oOpp possible starting a whole new development Opp.
Right now I'm currently working on a kernel.. I its coming along but slow. I appreciate the support ill update the this Opp when I get home.
THIS is what I have been waiting for! I'm no dev, but I would love to see this happen and am willing to help how I can (testing, bouncing ideas off of, etc). I'll see if I can't rustle up a bit of support as well, shouldn't be hard to get a few capable souls interested, especially if you post this in the other carrier forums and see if this can be cross-device compatible for all carrier variants?

Modern Combat 4 Gamepad opened/closed FPS bug

I realize this should probably go to the General section but sometimes I feel this section gets more notice.
I made a thread at the GameLoft forums, informing them of the bug where if you open the controller before playing the game there are little micro lags. If you open it after the game has loaded then its better but still not as good.
I recently ran a FPS (frames per second) test and saw around 43-45fps with the gamepad closed, when I opened it to play using the touchpads....26-28fps. Still playable but definately not as smooth and fluid.
I would like as many people as possible to post a reply on this thread at GL asking them to update the game to fix this bug, there is no reason for this to go unresolved and yes its still playable but we should be allowed to play it at the best settings while still retaining the gamepad usage.
Link:
http://forum.gameloft.com/index.php/topic,79113.0.html
Thanks for putting this up! I feel the same way. It could be such a beautiful game to play if only there wasn't that glitch! I know this is something that can be fixed and hope they address it in the next update. Please fix this GL! Thanks!
Oh and I tested a full effect modded version and found that with whilst overclocked (1612MHz) the game runs as smooth as butter with my d-pad closed. But when I opened it... Shame there isn't an effects level parameter in the games settings (wishful thinking I know, haha!).
Incredibly as I have said before that version 1.0.0 from the WapShop never had micro lags, well it actually did LATELY, not being solved by closing the gamepad but by turning on the Wi-Fi and it becomes very fluid... even more fluid than NOVA 2.
Only time i noticed that lag was on multiplayer if you're playing online. There it was really laggy with opened gamepad and with closed it was nearly perfect. But on single campaign (if remember right) everything was good.
C'mon guys we need a fix for this game! It's unplayable at the moment. I didn't pay £5 for s**t!

Thank you. I am shocked at how little interest there appears to be in at least asking GL to look into a fix for this. At present my thread at GL has been turned into a thread about V6 supercharger.
Come on people I know GL has a sucky track record at fixing bugs but if we at least voiw our frustrated in this matter and VOICE THIS in the above thread maybe they will do something about it. I'm myself and a couple others are the only ones b!itching on the thread I made then its all for nothing
I am kindly asking/requesting that members of this forum wagon have so voiced their frustrations in other regards please please rise up the occasion again and make our voices/words recognized by GameLoft that they look into fixing this game for our phone. I know this phone is capable of playing this game. I myself get 47-48fps with gamepad closed. But soon as I open the gamepad in the game to play it drops to 26-28. This is clearly a bug in the game.
Pease xperia play users please rise up and create a b!itch storm to GL in the link I posted in post 1. As we all know the squeaky wheel gets the grease

They are a big no caring money making machine, which is sad as if they spent more time to make games right they would have some of the best titles ever made on mobiles. As our devices such small % of their android customer base I very much doubt we be at the top of the list. For example Nova3 has been broke for months in a much more serious way (no hardware button controls) and still no closer at a fix.
I think due to this most people here will be thinking this is like talking to a brick wall, getting gameloft to fix things just does not ever happen. its a shame as really like this game.
We contacted them showing our video and the comments we had =
PS, @all with gamelofts track record I would recommend everyone make a back up of this first 1.0.1 version if ever does get updated as they usually make things worse in updates then make it better

Si I grabbed my unlocked att play and opened the gamepad and started mc4 just now and it ran buttery smooth @ 48fps. But doing the same on my Verizon model it takes the hit. Any ideas why this is the case? Good thing my contract with VZ is almost up and I can switch to the unlocked att model. Also just for the heck of it I bought a new moga controller to mess with for $25

I installed my Wapshop version and the fps is better (instead of 26-29, its 26-32) But still though when I close the gamepad 43-49 fps.
Is it possible for someone to hack this game to figure out the issue and fix it? I know there are MC4 files out in the wild with max graphics modded and or other features.....
Edit: So I want to clarify, those who are saying to open the gamepad before even staring the game, or is it opening the gamepad after your game is loaded and you can play then open the gamepad? I do both and no change for me in frames per second
I think fps dont matter much if the game ran smooth enough for u to play. Either in campaign or mp. Just saying.
I'm curious, how much ram/fps do u really need to run it smooth?? Coz on mine even with below 180mb free ram it ran perfectly. Especially in-game aim-assist feature. To me thats kinda important in this game.
So i'm kinda confuse on why does fps counts bothers u?? Mc4 is not that heavy compare to wild blood. Dont u think??
Regards,
Sdojoin
As I have tested myself, Gameloft Wapshop version 1.0.0 seem to have a different case. Closing/opening the gamepad WON'T affect the game in any way (at least in my case), BUT WI-FI DOES.
The game runs much faster and smoother with Wi-Fi turned on and connected to an active network
In campaign its playable, guess I just want this game to be as smooth as possible, however playing online with either PLAY store version or Wapshop is abysmal... terribly laggy. Its so glitchy I can barely get a kill.......
Guess I will be back on MC3 for my multiplayer fix, and speaking of prior MC games.. isnt there a version of MC2 with the swipe controls like in MC3? The version I have 3.2.8 (I think) and its virtual thumbsticks..... I want to say somewhere I read there was a version that was more like MC3/4... this true?

Hope I can leave office early today to check the update. I really dont understand why they have not provided a changelog
Great news people!! Looks like they have sorted the lag out in v1.0.2. Have played just one multiplayer game but seams to be so much better and runs smooth. All the controls still work and we still have swipe to look (No rubish virtual pad added thankfully). So is 100% safe to update

I have the wapshop version 1.0.0 and it seems smoth enough, but not as with Xperia T: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpIpp9wiBYg
Us, wapshop version users, will have to wait for about a month, I guess. Drat.
Still my other games like the amazing spider-man & n.o.v.a 3 still can't get the latest update. Only who have the google play version.

Hi,
It depends of what settings you used
I have not had time to take a closer look ...
It may be a good idea to move this thread to the generic Android Apps+Themes section as the Dev had granted you permission and has given a free community version of the application.

Hi,
For now, for me it's only about the G2. I could not follow the thread if it's related to another devices...
In any case feel free to report the thread if you really think that the Android general apps section would be better
Nobody else tests for the G2?
I have no time for now to test closely. I might send a PM to the dev to have more help.
One user has reported something but without any details and but never came back for more information...
What do you need to test?
i bought this app on playstore before i found out it was free here, which is perfectly fine as i consider that a well deserved donation, this is a project i really hope goes somewhere, my hope is that essentially, it'll do the same thing you might find in consoles, the backwards compatibility between generations of console, like being able to play a ps2 games on the ps3, but in this case being able to, for example, play tegra 2 games such as gameloft games (which i might add gamelofts piss poor support by the way), on more recent cpu's gpu's
And big kudos to the developer man, for providing a free version for the community, not alot of playstore devs do that, so when one does its something i definatly take notice off, and makes the donation even more worth is
One question though, which one is fully featured, the playstore version or the xda version, i dont see an option on the playstore version to download any texture plugin which has been mentioned either on this thread or the other one, is it in the playstore install by default
My particualr situation, im on 4.1.2 touchwiz, which has installed ok, no bootloops, no obvious issues with the install
My Device Specifications:

Cpu:
Exynos 4412
Gpu:
Mali-400MP
Im trying to get an old backup of a tegra 2 game "The Settlers HD" to work, right now, as soon as it gets pass the gameloft logo, everything goes white, literaly, the game runs, i can see and select text, i can load a map, but everything else is white, same thing with with another device which has tegra 3 cpu and a ULP GeForce Gpu......my question, any knowledgeble folks know if gltools can help me with this, or whether gltools can potentially in the future resolve this issue, ive tried gltools, but its like the blind leading the blind here, im randomly trying this and that and hoping something works, which granted is not the best approach, especially after seing a comment on samsung incompatibility AFTER the fact, feels like ive dodged a bullet, my device, a samsung device, doesnt seem to have suffered any ill effect, not one that is obvious anyway
