Hi gang, just got my gorgeous Inspire

I've been wanting an Inspire for a long time and thought I would have had to pay full price for it rather than a consignment deal. Looks like I was wrong and I went ahead and snagged one.
This is just a purely outstanding phone. It is AT&T's version of the DesireHD and I've been using a DHD ROM on my HD2 for quite some time now. I'm very familiar with the ROM my Inspire has, all the setup and functionality, and setting this Inspire up was nothing new. There are a few minor difference here and there, though. I can say it is definitely smoother and cleaner and quicker than DHD on my HD2.
Not really sure if I will try to root it or not. The last time I tried to root a genuine Android phone was nothing shy of a pain and misery of frustration. It was a T-Mobile MyTouch 4G and it just would not root. That was the first and only time I ever attempted a root. It left me with a very sour experience. However, not being rooted, I can't use my backup programs like MyBackup or Titanium. Nor can I use my screen capture app, ShootMe. I don't really need to use any of those, though.
Anyway, I'm enjoying my Inspire and I look forward to interacting with and being "Inspired"...lol...at the XDA Inspire community.

I was a newbie with rooting but once I did it it was EASY and worth it.

Some Android phones can be easily rooted than others. It all depends on the manufacturer and model of the phone. Don't let one bad experience ruin it for you. Here are links to two proven methods of rooting the Inspire if you are interested...

Use the Simple Root but trust me, save yourself some later hassle and click the "Fixes" option when you're done and flash the ENG S-OFF (radio S-OFF) so if you change radios, you don't lose S-OFF plus you get engineering features like fastboot (allows you to flash new radio images for one but also allows you to try out images before you actually flash them, through fastboot, which can be handy when you aren't sure about something or you are testing a new ROM)

Guys, the user experience with this Inspire is just getting better and better. It now is super fast compared to my experience with HD2 DHD ROMs. The boot-up is almost instantaneous and the page loading in menus like Manage Apps is so much faster now.
I doubt I will ever even root this glorious machine. I'm admiring like an iPhone.
For anyone on the fence about a purchase, Hell yes! Let it have a couple days of break-in and you will see the difference from first turning it on. I'm just glad I chose the Inspire over the Atrix. The Atrix is a super nice machine, but I just don't believe it can top the silky-smooth and top-notch user experience of the Inspire.

Lets just say i caught him today picking up my phone and telling me how awesome it was and how he actually wanted one after playing with the Inspire. I had the Captivate and that just didn't do anything for him, but the Inspire is just perfect!

The Inspire has some serious appeal. I still love my iPhone 4, but the Inspire has a quality all its own. My serious personal view of the DesireHD/Inspire 4G is that it should be the actual Android flagship smartphone. The OS...Android 2.2.1...combined with HTC's Sense 2.0 is just purely the cream-of-the-crop. The lag some people complain about with Android just isn't even a hint in this OS and on this hardware. I owned a WP7 HTC HD7 for about half a year and found the UI to be the smoothest I'd ever experienced. There was nothing that was a smooth. That was then, this is now. This Inspire is easily just as smooth, quick and clean as that WP7 HTC HD7. And the battery life is a little bit better, too.

Just got my Inspire two days ago. A bit leery of rooting myself. I've read the threads and instructions a few times, as well as watched the video, but I'm just terribly afraid of making a bad mistake, lol.

For what root provides, I just see no desire to do it. The sum total of the apps I won't be able to use are currently 3, MyBackup Root, Titanium backup Pro, ShootMe. For how well this phone works and how clean it is, I'm wanting to keep the iPhone style feeling I have with it. Rooting it and such would just lead to a mess for me. It would strip away the pristine cleanness and purity of this fine piece of hardware.

Understandable. I would love to be able to use ShootMe and install new themes, but with being so new at things like this, the risk seems greater than the reward. I installed Launcher Pro and I'm pretty satisfied with the amount of customability I have with it, though.
I know there's a lot more its capable of after being rooted but most of it isn't something I would use, lol.

If you mean skins, don't worry about the them. I installed a bunch of them on mine and there is no risk that I can see. Currently using the Wildflower HD and it works just like the original. I think I have 20 skins installed.

There isn't really much risk rooting the phone - the only real risk is if you apply ENG S-OFF because that involves replacing the bootloader and if something goes wrong there, you're bricked.

I don't see why everyone is afraid of rooting this phone, this is the first Android phone I've ever owned, and the first I've ever seen rooted, and I was done in a couple hours, it was easy, just read and follow instructions. For me being able to take screenshots is the biggest reason I rooted, but have found many other reasons that I'm glad I did. Messing with an iPhone for a year, if I screwed something up I would be in for a long process of re-syncing and setting everything up, but with clockworkmod, if u screw something up, a backup including all data and settings in all apps is just 10 mins away. It isn't about fear. For me, I prefer to retain the pristine nature of this phone. So I don't want to root it and open it up situations that could slow it down and cause it to be buggy.

Rooting is well worth the trouble. And to me, having all the bloatware removed yields a more pristine nature...

No, I disagree. Rooting allows you to do things that can cause issues. For people who know how to program and code, they can usually get better results. But for people who just need a phone to work and do what it normally does, rooting can be destructive.

yes ROOTING can cause somewhat destruction.
today while upgrading my phone to COREDROID, that thing bricked my phone. Somehow, I managed to fix my phone.
The coredroid thing made my BOOTING SCREEN STUCK. never got to its next step.
im not a coder or anything, im just following guides.

This is the reason I haven't rooted. I'm tech-savvy, but not a developer or anything. I see countless threads related to issues that seem to have risen from rooting. Either an issue arises during the process, or something happens that wouldn't have happened without root. And then there's that "you could brick your phone" deal. I'll stay unrooted.

Don't listen to what other people say. The phone is great, as long as it doesn't shutdown by itself. Screen bleed isn't as bad as people say. It's not noticeable with normal use... Only on a black background with Maximum Brightness, and in a dark room. It's blazing fast. Update baseband makes GPS lock instantly. Screen looks AMAZING. Build quality is really good as well. Don't forget that it runs stock Android... So development on this phone is great. Install any rooted 2.3.3 OTA ROM, or CyanogenMod 7.1 Nightly, and you're good to go.

As always, test one out in the store if you can. You might get a slightly different experience at home, though.
Just like there's plenty of phones with some problems, there's plenty of working ones as well.

I think this statement says a lot. To say a phone is great when it's not malfunctioning says a lot about the phone. If I were the OP I would not take that as a vote of confidence. That being said, OP don't buy the G2X, it's fine I suppose if you're someone unfortunate to have already purchased it and can't get out of it, but I would hardly suggest jumping on board with it at this juncture. My advice is to just be patient and wait for the Hercules or Nexus Prime. The G2X is an unstable phone that reboots itself and freezes randomly. Why jump onto a sinking ship? There are better options just over the horizon, wait for those.

Neither do I. The only problems I have are a useless FFC, glitchy A2DP, and an uncertain future.
Still... someone who comes here asking for advice and reassurance before purchasing a G2x is well served by strong words of caution. This is the unfortunate truth.

Awesome phone. I've gotten good ones and bad ones... In my experience there were more good then bad..once you get a good one, then in my opinion everything else sucks (that's available now in us.).
Don't listen to others saying no. I sold a vibrant for this and couldn't be happier. Even having gotten a bad few, I still love this device..
Just imagine every g2x line all the good ones.. I think it would be hard to beat.

So the OP will have to buy a phone based on chance...?
Honestly, I've exchanged my phone once already (the only reason my first one went back is because I thought it had a faulty GPS...turns out they all do!) and I really don't want to be bothered calling T-Mobile every two days until I'm on my nth replacement to get one that actually works.
To the OP, honestly I think ever phone will have its own problems so you just gotta look at the forums to see which ones you can live with.
People's biggest complains with this phone is that:
It restarts randomly (FroYo and Gingerbread).
Has a screen bleed (although better in GB).
The GPS doesn't function the way it should (mostly people complaining from a bad lock on, I personally can't get it to stay locked on for an extended period of time, with RunKeeper it looks like I'm a drunk and spiking up to mountains and running over lakes).
EDIT: And the most annoying thing that happens to me since the GB update: slow downs into oblivion. The phone will become unusable at random times for a good 10 minutes, or until a battery pull (because I'm not able to shut it down since it is unresponsive)
Then there are some that don't experience any of this...

I say take everything people say with a grain of salt. Obviously people make rash comments that stem from their emotional instability. That being said. I recently purchased the G2x, after hearing a lot of complaining about it. YOu must realize, one is much more likely to go out of his way to make known a complaint, than a praise. Human nature I suppose.
The G2x I got, 2.3.3 July baseband, is flawless. It is an amazing phone. No restarts, no bleed, instant GPS lock.
Im not stating that there are bad phones out there, and I empathize with those that may have recieved a few, but let the first impressions go, and realize that they are not ALL bad.

Dude this phone is beast I had mind since launch and it works great everyday, u will be very happy, to the people still having trouble with there phones take it back get a new one and if its past the 14 days send it to LG u have a year

Bud u need a new phone man, slow? This phone is still super fast after not rebooting for 3 days and GPS is almost instant everytime man

From what I've noticed this phone will give you what yuu put in to it. Like a car. To me with a lil tweaking n upgrades its better n faster than my girls nexus s. And im still on the old baseband.....feel like I bought a charger sxt n put a srt8 engine in it....the only complain I gave is my 4g....I use so much data that im always getting slowed down...like I said just like a car...llz

I dont see how someone can suggest buying a phone that with a few exchanges you might end up with a good one. That makes no sense. My G1 out the box worked, my Mytouch out the box worked, my Nexus One out the box worked, my mytouch 4g out the box worked, hell my HD2 running Android works better than my G2X, and yes, I have tried several.
Dont get me wrong as I must say WHEN my G2X is running right its balls to the walls fast. I think its probably the fastest Android phone available...as long as I dont need GPS or the phone hasnt shut its self off (if I could be so lucky as to have mine reboot) its not bad, not bad at all. Unfortunately I need my GPS, I am a truck driver and rely on my GPS.
I think honestly its an issue with dual cores right now, I would wait for a bit like others have said and pick up something a bit later. Perhaps even wait for ICS since I believe that will be more optimized for dual and quads.
Its your gamble. If you dont mind possibly sending it back, trying out another one with the clear understanding that its a crap shoot at best if its going to work or not go for it. Me personally? I would not buy it again knowing what I know now and what I have been through with this phone.

I totally agree with this. The people in this thread that are urging the OP to go out and get this phone are not being realistic. Some people don't want to keep swapping phones until they get one that doesn't malfunction. Sure the G2X is a great phone WHEN IT WORKS. The problem is those times when it IS NOT working. For people who are locked into their phone and can't leave this may be tolerable. For people who don't mind having to hack their phone for it to have any semblance of reliability may be tolerable. However, for many people that is unacceptable. I think it's best that the OP at least be made aware of the reality of the situation (the state of the G2X and other phones coming soon) and let him make his decision. My opinion is that it doesn't make sense to jump on board with a phone that may potentially have to swap and swap over and over...a phone that even T-Mobile doesn't really want to offer support for anymore. To me it makes more sense to wait since there are better devices coming out in the near future.

If you're going to leave it stock then you may have issues. If you're planning to mod it and flash alternative roms then you're going to love the phone. The hardware is amazing. LG/T-Mobile's version of the android software is buggy.

What he said is correct, stock form doesn't make the hardware justice. I have a vibrant and got my wife the g2x. The first one we got we returned due to random restarts and signal loss. Second one worked ok but returned and cancelled contract because Costco had it for half the price with accessories included. Now my wife hates me tinkering with her phones which I love to do. But after so much complaints from her about not receiving or able to make calls and phone slowing down I convinced her to let me install a custom rom. I installed eagleblood 1.05 and she hasn't complained once anymore and after setting it up and going back to my vibrant which I also run a custom rom and kernel, made my vibe seem to move slow as a turtle. And the screen just looked so much more vibrant as well. It also felt much more "comfortable" , "sturdy" in my hand than my vibrant. Bottom line is if you are lucky enough to get one that doesn't have hardware problems and you are willing to install custom roms on it, then go for it otherwise I would suggest you stick with your vibrant.

In my opinion, one in 3 or 4 of the original phones are good. I've ended up with one of the good ones after 5 tries.
As Sarni sez', this phone is a beast. Does everything I ask of it. Love the full page internet with Dolphin hd. I sold my Sensation and never looked back.
Now LG.......they just stink period.
But my G2X is awesome, everything works. I'm still on Froyo and rooted, I don't want the update.

We may need a campaign of annoyance...

There's been no word, no dates given or leaked about the ICS update we're supposed to be receiving. Samsung has said we're supposed to get the update, but T-Mobile has been quiet. Hell, Samsung just announced that the GS2 will be getting JB and they've been working on it. I don't know how well that translates to the T-Mobile variant of the GS2, but it's still something. All we need is a kernel and some camera drivers. Hell, we could probably get away without the camera drivers and mangle the old ones using a compatibility HAL..
It is starting to feel like T-Mobile is simply going to forget the blaze. I mean, they released an update already, why would they hurry on to the next update...
I think if we're going to get something for nothing, we'll have to make noise about it. Same way we got this forum. I think it's going to take bugging t-mobile on the forums and on their support lines. You people on contract have it worse. You bought a really powerful phone in the presence of ICS, some of you after the promise that it would receive the update. T-Mobile wouldn't suffer penalties if they didn't push it, but I imagine they'll respond to some social pressure enough not to simply forget the update.

I agree with you. At this point I'd be happy with some sort of update from Samsung/T-Mobile. Even if they just said "we're still working on it" and gave no ETA at least we'd know they hadn't forgotten about it.
If the Blaze Q whatever the hell they've decided to call it launches here in a few weeks with ICS and we still don't get the software I will be ticked.
If push comes to shove and they don't release it can the devs port it or JB from another galaxy phone?

I completely agree with you. To be honest, I am already pissed off that they still havent released it. When I got this phone, T-Mobile promised I was going to get an ICS update in July. Yeah, so much for that. At the very least they could acknowledge our presence and let us know that they havent forgotten about us

The problem is the kernel and libraries specific to our hardware. We have to have a working kernel and libraries before the rest of the rom can come.
I'm not sure why people thought the Blaze Q would've been a good thing for us because unless the hardware was identically similar (which no one had any proof that it was), the releases for that phone would've been useless for ours. The fact that it's now coming with a 720p display (I would've stayed with my Blaze 4G if it had that), and a keyboard tells me that there will be PLENTY different between the phones.
Hardware-wise, the T769 (Blaze) is EXTREMELY similar to the T989 (T-Mo SGS2). How similar you ask? In the original kernel configuration file for the T769, the options are set to build it as a T769 AND T989. There are a few ifdefs that exist purely to stop little snippets of the T989 code from taking effect.
I worked on my own time to try and hack together a kernel from the released sources for the T989 for ICS. Porting specific code from the T769 sources to try to come up with something that worked. Here's the problem: it was stressful and thankless, and at the end of it all I had a kernel that would compile and not boot. No one collected anything to help me attempt this and I was getting tired of having a non-functioning phone that pissed me off. So I ordered me a Galaxy Nexus. I received 2 in a row with screen issues and ended up returning them. I figured I would return to my efforts with the blaze, but at that point I was used to the big phone with a beautiful 720p resolution... so I shelled out the money for a GS3.
I have thought of returning and making a second attempt to port the kernel, and have actually started setting up to do just that. I think I made some mistakes my first time around, so the second time might actually work. But it is A PAIN.

You're right, it isn't... but it's the last time I saw this community bug an outside source for something, aside from buying a couple of guys a phone

I still find it comical that my old HD2 is on the verge of having a fully functional JB rom but my brand new Blaze is still stuck on GB.
Honestly if I could've afforded it I would have probably gone the Nexus or S3 route but given my limited funds and needing to cover two phones (wife needed an upgrade) I thought this was the best value ($30 upgrade cost at Target).

T-Mobile hasn't updated their page for a month now, and that was for the Gingerbread update they released when they could have been making headway on ICS. I can't find out how to submit any new pages, but I can see two requests for an update that were a couple months old (click on the link, then read on the right side in section "Incoming Links") source = http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4182
I went to Samsung's page about ICS updates, and rated it "very dissatisfied," informing them they should have supplied target Year and Quarter (i.e. 2012 Q3) at the minimum, but preferably a specific month. source = http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?faq_id=FAQ00046726&fm_seq=49755

Not to be a **** ... but what's the rush? What's wrong with the software on your phone now? I've had this Blaze for a couple months and I don't think I ever had a problem. I have ICS on a tablet and like it, but I never felt like I needed to light the torches and march on the castle because I didn't have the latest **** on my phone.
And honestly, if a delay of an update for a great phone that works perfectly fine is what keeps you up at night, just wow...
If I am missing something critical here that I should know about (phone will explode without ICS ROM installed, I have a higher risk of cancer if I don't have ICS on phone, etc) please let me know immediately. I have poster boards, Sharpies, and a willingness to assemble if needed.

Nope, just a league of people whining because that makes things happen faster. There really is nothing more to it.

I'll be the first to admit I've become a bit jaded because of my experiences with T-Mobile / Samsung and the Samsung Vibrant.
I heard promises about updates to that phone - they even set dates and pushed them back and back and back and finally... nothing.
If anything I think the release of the Blaze Q is a strike against us because our phones are now the "out dated" version of the Blaze and why put development hours into an "old" device.
I'm happy that I have a fully functional phone as it is now (the Vibrant never really had a fully working GPS). An update would be nice but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it because honestly, you may just be setting yourself up for a lot of sleepless nights.
Oh, and on the Vibrant Forum they started a twitter campaign #NeverAgain demanding the promised upgrade or they would never use T-mobile or Samsung again. No one listened.
I know this all sounds cynical but I've seen this show before.
Edit to add: If memory serves correctly this was also the case with the Behold on T-mobile.

Hey i know im new here, but i was wondering if you guys have only attempted to port ics roms from the SII? Ive tried to do the same and only recieved a glittery sparkly screen. I was wondering if anyone tried other devices with similar hardware like the HTC amaze 4g. I tried to port that one and actually got the boot animation to pop up. I havent tried to do any logcats or anything because i have been to busy and i need my phone for work, but if anyone else has tried to port from other devices i would like to know so i can know where to start if i do decide to try again.

The reason you get a glittery screen when coming from roms that are like the SGS2 is because they use different display panel hardware than we do. I'd be careful porting things from different manufacturers unless you really know what you're doing. You'd hate to go and format some partitions you can't get back

What happens when more "cool new apps" are released to the market that require Android 4.0 API's or better? Chrome immediately comes to mind, and there are others with many more on the way. What happens 4 months from now when you are only 6 months into your 2 year contract and you're wondering why you can't realistically run things on your phone that has 1 gig of ram and a dual-core 1.5ghz cpu?
And honestly, btw... I had a myTouch 4G running CM7 that felt miles faster than my blaze. The samsung crapware is not only bloated, but breaks the system in a number of places. You can see this in the fact that you can't have a scrollable wallpaper, or that the system doesn't understand all the loop points in ringtones that work properly in other phones. I can't tell you how frustrated I get by an unlock and/or answer mechanism that can't track my fingers in real time like something as simple as CM7 does.
And don't get me started on the underutilisation of the video hardware.

No, this phone was released with a promise. When it was released, ICS had been out for 6 months or more, and I'm sure the OEMs had access to the system and API's well before the official release. By the time ICS is released for our phones (IF it is released for our phones), JB will have been out for several months.
This is a matter of support and broken promises. I am NOT just whining. I was sold a phone with a promise of ICS and it has NOT been delivered, and at this point the time has gone beyond reasonable.
If we don't make noise now, it WILL be forgotten and you're going to end up with a phone outdated well before it's time.

Yeah the first time i tried to flash the rom nothing happened. ahah but then i went into the updater script changed some things and got it to flash. but since the hard ware is the same do you think i could use the display drivers from the amaze 4g and replace them in the SII rom and maybe it will work? well maybe i will have to do some logcats to see why the amaze rom isnt booting.

I doubt it. The drivers are baked into the kernel, they aren't modules or libraries. You'd have to get another compiled kernel working for our device, and you'll undoubtedly lose other drivers (camera, wifi come to mind). It's, of course, up to you to brick your own phone

Well cant you decompile a kernel? or maybe if i get the source of both devices i can use the code to compile a new kernel... hmmm all stuff to try. but compiling a kernel takes a while i think ill update my PC first haha. Im not necessarily worried about the other drivers not working, i just want to make progress, or at least help us make a push in the right direction. Im sorry if im being too optimistic or noobish, i just want to learn what people have and havent tried, so i dont waste my time on what has already been done.

Returned my Flex 2

you know, I have been with LG for quite some time now, but I do have to say that the LG G Flex 2 was a huge disappointment. I have owned the G2, Original G Flex, G3 and the Flex 2 and it was by far the worst phone. I absolutely loved my G2 and then got the Original Flex to try out and loved it (except for the screen res and burn in effect). When the G3 came out I loved it but had a few problems, like sticking with the SD801 was a bad decision and made the phone laggy due to the screen, and there were ways to speed it up and it turned out to be a great phone.
But now that LG has started to gain popularity with their mobile devices, I am worried that they are going to let it go to their heads and start cutting corners. I am going to try LG one more time to see how they handle this disappointment, and trust me they know this phone bombed because the world has let them know how bad it really is. I hope that the G4 is going to blow everyone away and restore all of us die hard fans' faith in the company. I know alot of people are going to this from the G2, and are disappointed in the speed of the phone. so if you dont mind a big phone, I went with the Nexus 6 and could not be happier, this phone blows me away by how fast and responsive it is. this phone is a Rooting Person's Dream lol
I do have to say i will miss my LG, but for people out there wanting to upgrade now, I think if you can wait just alittle bit longer, then wait. this phone isnt worth the upgrade and wait for the G4. but if you are looking for an amazing phone, I have to say go with the Nexus 6

You should have hung in there for the update it runs fantastic now all the transitions are smooth and the phone is very good now

Nexus 6 was just too big for me.

If your only issue with the phone was the lag then you should have waited a bit..., I personally love this phone.

Was all the lag fixed with a firmware update, then?

Not all but the most.
I'm on 10b and its good now.
10d is better but not available for Vodafone germany. The software/ui wasn't optimized for the snapdragon 810.
Gta San Andreas runs very smooth with max settings

I personally haven't had a lot of lag. But I just got my phone 4/4 and the update had already been released. What I do have is battery issues. Neither my nor my friends phone will read my samsung 64 GB sd card and infact if i put the card into either phone it immediately corrupts the data forcing a reformat.
This combined with the relatively absent dev community is likely going to force me into a Galaxy s6 on the 10th
That being said There are some things this phone did completely right and I wish Samsung would have stepped their sh*t up a notch.
Frankly the current offerings fail to excite me and these upgrades feel lackluster.
From my galaxy s5 with a sweet Dev community to the G flex 2 with *cricket cricket* no dev community.
TBH if i didn't have the above mentioned issues and little things
(for example smart remote not deploying into notification panel despite the fact that i chose home wifi and was connected to it., The youtube app not letting me pause a video.) That may be Lolliflop issues and I would be surprised if a lot of those type of bugs go away when 5.1 hits.
Lately Android seems to trying to be more iPhone like meanwhile apple is stealing Android features by the bushel and becoming more android like.
I will likely never buy an apple product do to the lack of transparency and also hatred for the walled garden.
That being said android needs to wow me. I kind of wish I had waited to pull the trigger on upgrading but I traded in my phone after a year with sprint and now Have to take a step up.
It looks like it's going to be an s6 for me.
But I curse the loathsome curr dogs Samsung for taking away my microSd and My removable battery.
But alas I need to get a real phone with a dev community.
Or else start learning to dev myself.

I think a lot of dev are waiting to see if this phone bootloader will be unlockable because the first og G Flex was able to be rooted but the bootloader was locked on tight that's the reason it also lacked in the development section.

Is still the sd corruption and random glitches

The s5 had knox and it was still defeated. If enough devs get this phone ( big if) someone will defeat it.
If i were lg i would be trying to do everything I could to move phones.
That would include pandering to the modders.
Lets be honest here most of us here on are the most tech savvy people in our family/friend circles.
At least i am. And all my friends and family follow my lead as far as phones.
Everybody has a galaxy s5 in my family. It's because I recommended it to them. I definitely can't recommend LG based on the super locked boot loader. Nor the issues I've had. Tbh im prob returning for an s6. As long as bootloader is unlocked.

Your right but it's very risky for these devs to just put out the cash for a phone that your to not sure is going to succeed in the development department especially with the locked boot loader. The original Flex was a nightmare when it came down to development but overall the phone was great so I stuck with it for a whole year.
I was waiting for the flex 2 but saw too many reasons to not get it so I decided to buy the nexus 6 right out for $500 brand new sealed and I don't regret it at all and plus I still have my upgrade available so I could use it for a device well worth in quarter 4.

Hey guys, Sorry havent had the chance to check in, but I am glad that most have had updates to fix alot of the problems. I am on sprint and 9 times out of 10 sprint is the last to provide any updates for a phone for some reason. I really did like the phone and im sure I will try LG again in the future, but I didnt want to be stuck with a phone I was having so many issue's with until they decided to throw out an update, and we know sometimes that can be months. The Nexus 6 is big but I love it and the battery life is ALOT better than my G3 and the Flex 2, but nothing has beaten the G2. I sure wish LG could find a way to bring back the best of performance and battery life like they did on the G2.

I'm pretty sure he will with all the development that's going on on that device lol.

Took mine back and got me a note 4 . Sold my nexus 6 for the flex 2 because i didn't like it and i hated the flex2 more than the nexus6 . This could have been a killer phone

oh yes, loving the development on this phone. im constantly trying new roms and kernels.. havent seen support like this since the OG Evo.
But also, I have multiple lines on my account, so I get a new phone every six months. so while you are still using this I will have probably gotten three phones to your one. Peace

Yea I'm the same too been flashing ROMs from left to right can't seem to just stay on one lol too many are usually popping out or updating.

yea, i cant seem to make up my mind so i just try them all... lol
but coming from LG's I hate how the USB OTG doesnt auto mount thru the UI, I loved that feature. and Stickmount is ok but it still doesnt make it work with all apps

also, just out of curiousity... I have had LG for awhile and liked the UI, but the Flex 2 was the first time it was just super laggy and I never really cared for other launchers, but now that I have the Nexus 6 and have been playing with Stock Google and AOSP roms, I didnt care for the Google Launcher so I started playing with others and really like Apex. It works great for me and I can customize and setup just how I like..
So has anyone with the Flex 2 tried any other launchers on it and if so how did it work. was it an instant transformation or was there still some issues?

I haven't had to root anything since the Evo 4g I used to have and its been shoved in a backpack with an extended battery for the past 2 years. I had several G1's, several old school Nexus devices and 3 or 4 Captivates. Couple of HTC devices thron in for good measure too.
I work for AppleCare and have had an iphone for the past 3 years but its gotten to the point where they are basically, blah. Just...nothing special about them. Long story short, i traded a 6 plus for my new S7 and couldn't be happier.
Questions: How afr out of the loop am I? I've used Odin but it was new when I stopped flashing.
-Is there anyting to gain from flashing/rooting besides debloating?? That was the main reason several years ago, that and trying to OC the processors. Hell, with quad cores and 4 gigs, who needs to OC anymore?? lol
Anyway, hope that makes sense and I look forward to being an active member once again.

First off let me say welcome back to the awesome side
As to what you're missing, it really depends on what you need from your device. While most of the features you'd need root to obtain are now a part of stock android, there are still a few things missing like ad blocking, or an awesome sound mod like v4a. And even then, some root apps/mods don't play nicely with Touchwiz.
My advice is to browse though the s7 forums and see if anything entices you that's worth rooting for.

its good to be back. mt wife still has her 6 plus but she's swapping it tomorrow for an s8. shes hella excited.
i remember tethering being a huge driver for rooting becuase carriers didnt see the usage. I have 14 gigs of hot spot that doesn't use my actual cell data so i don't guess i need to root. lol
I would love get all the crap off and go vanilla Nougat but i doubt its possible at this time. Thats about all i would want. pure google.

I believe the s7 forums have a decent amount of stable AOSP ROMs. I've not been over there in a while but you can take a look.
Vanilla android is very possible to obtain. But you might need to get your hands a bit dirty. As you're probably aware how tightly Samsung has been locking down "their" devices as of late.

oh yea. I've kept up with all the news about locking bootloaders and what not. wish they would just put vanilla on them and just sell the phone for what it is, a phone. i don't mind getting dirty to be honest.
i remember when the capivates first came out they were supposed to be unbrickable. come to find out, they could be bricked, but a guy on here made a rig with a diode in a usb csble and it unbricked it. that was some cool stuff. lol

i remember when the capivates first came out they were supposed to be unbrickable. come to find out, they could be bricked, but a guy on here made a rig with a diode in a usb csble and it unbricked it. that was some cool stuff. lol

I hear TW isn't as bad as it was once. But I guess that's subjective. I do agree with you though. And stock android would just fly on Samsung's hardware.
Those were the days.
The users here on xda have always found a way. Whether it be unlocking a device's BL, rooting it, unbricking it, or even bricking it
They've done it all.

i honestly love this phone.
its quick, great camera, expandable storage and looks awesome. I've got a 128 gig sd card in right now but ill be picking up another card so this one can go back in my laptop.
i have never minded touchwiz but its came a long way. a long long way.
one thing i would love to do, since i tether so much, is to have a tether option on the home screen(like a little switch) instead of having to go into settings-connections-tether in order to turn it on.

I'm actually planning on getting one myself. Further down in the year though. The device is absolutely beautiful.
Most of the toggles/widgets on the playstore are dated. So they might not support newer versions of android. Especially the heavily modded TW. This app looks fairly recent though. So give it a shot
