Hello everyone , i'm relly intersted by polishing my sensation case , and painting the plastic parts in a white color , i Know that there are some antennas in the Plastic parts . I will Not sand this plastics , I'm just gonna Paint it . I want to ask you guys if it is possible to do this work . Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad english .
You can do with this plastic anything you want. Painting them wouldn't affect signal.
the 'soft touch' coating on the plastic parts wiil be hard to paint over. I don't think paint wil stick to it at all. I guess removing the soft touch finish will damage the antennas (just a guess).
You are righy, if he wants to remowe this layer he probably damage antens, but i think paint will stick perfectly if surface will by mated.
There's some cool covers here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184568
Thanks for the quick answers . How can i stick the pant to the plastics without touching the antennas ??

As I think Radolex is suggesting above, you could try very gently sanding the surface of the plastic to provide a 'key' for the paint to stick to, but I honestly don't think this will work due to the properties of soft touch paint, which naturally shrugs stuff off and tries to self heal (so to speak). If you want to try it, degrease the soft touch paint, sand lightly with something like 800 grit wet and dry paper, then apply a thin layer of primer (I wouldn't know what to suggest, maybe a plastic primer or some etch primer), then your top coat. Wear a mask if you're spraying dude : )
Have a look at this site, I think it's the same kind of stuff that's on the plastic panels on the back of our phone http://www.alsacorp.com/products/softtouch/softtouch.htm
Ouzo, you should be a Safety Officer. Suggesting to wear a mask for painting. Great stuff.

LOL, I know - it's easy to overlook these things when you just want to get on with something though, or you don't understand the long term risks. I painted an entire motorcycle in my kitchen about 20 years ago without wearing a mask for most of it. It was a really really dumb thing to do....

OK, so today I threw my Incredible (AMOLED if it matters at all) into my backpack and some keys in there scratched it a little bit. The scratches are not too deep, and you can't feel them or anything, so I was hoping there might be a way to fix it. I looked around a little bit and saw that toothpaste can help for getting scratches out of things like CD's and such. Has anyone tried this on their phone? I don't think anything bad would happen, but I don't really know...
Also, I know that I should have bought a screen protector, so please don't remind me about that.
'Getting scratches out' sounds like a bit of a oxymoron. You don't have something IN your screen, a scratch is more like a bit of surface screen missing.
I can't see why toothpaste would harm the screen. Just don't get the phone wet, turn it off, clean up afterwards, etc.
Really can't see how it would help either...
I have never heard of using toothpaste to fix scratches, but since the scratches are not to deep I try this product that has done wonders it is called apple sauce and was originally made to fix iPod scratches. Look it up on amazon.
If this helped please press the thanks button
Yes! It works well, rub it in tiny little circles starting in the center of the screen and working your way out. BUT BE CAREFUL. don't push hard ar all, and don't do the same part more than 2 or 3 little "circles" or you may destroy the screen. if you do it right though, it should work fine.

What do you mean "destroy the screen"? How easily can I accidentally do this? I don't want it to get worse!
They say you can do it on CD's it acts like a polish. I think it all depends on the surface of the screen and what kind of metirial it is made up of.
Good luck though!
Vaseline. lol
Yes, it will probably work since toothpaste is the same as a car polish in general

Mustard works better than toothpaste. It turns into glass when you use it to remove scratches on your phones screen. If you rub it on your face every night before going to bed you'll grow a proper manly beard too. Really, there's no limit to the things you can do with mustard with it's amazing properties.*
*All of the above is patently untrue in the same way that turning lead into gold is pure fiction. Toothpaste contains mild abrasives. Would you use sandpaper on your screen?

Nice! I tried the mustard, and it looks like it worked! My screen looks brand new! Also, I think I can already see stubble after just one night!!! The only problem is now my pillow is stained yellow...
Anyways, I thought that the toothpaste helped because of the slight abrasiveness of it...?
There are products here in the UK made under the Duraglit brand as Brasso and Silvo. These are metal polishes, but are also available as a cotton wad roll impregnated with the stuff. I do not know if they are sold in the USA, but there may be something similar from US manufacturers. As their name suggests they are made to clean and polish brassware and silverware.
It is a very fine abrasive suspension, but it also contains ammonia to remove any tarnish, and white spirit to act as a lubricant. They are quite good at removing scratches from watch glasses etc., by gently cutting into the surface, down to the level of the scratch.
On touch screen devices, the touch screen sensitive layer lives above the screen glass, but under a plastic protective layer. It will be this top layer that you have scratched. The product above or something similar may work, but check that the white spirit does not attack the protective plastic layer.
As mentioned above small, circular movements, a little at a time may work. If you cut through the protective layer, you are in trouble.

Nice to see people getting into the spirit of things Anyway, i hope you find a solution that works. I personally might be tempted to ask the manufacturer to replace the digitizer, as long as the cost wasn't too prohibitive. I tried changing one myself on an old phone and it didn't work out too well
Am not sure about what kind of display cover your phone has. But, if it's capacitive or IR and the top layer is glass, take it to the local wrist-watch merchant/repair center and they could fix it for you using H2SO4 and some filler.
Alternatively, you can have the top layer of the touch panel replaced.
And, next time, do use a screen protector. =D

I am not sure if toothpaste would help the screen scratches, its not a tooth scratch.. LMAO
Is it true that tooth paste works like sand paper on glass, does that mean that it contain something harder than glass? I don't have scratch just want to remove paint between my screen protector. Want to know if tooth paste actually micro scratch the glass.
Hey, this seems like quite a noob question but I broke my case, its plastic and I want to know if I can glue it back together, I can't buy a new one as they are very hard to find for my phone in my country. Can anyone give me some tips on how to glue it, what glue ect.

Methy lEthyl Ketone (MEK) will bond some plastics. Look for an adhesive containing that. When I work on swamp coolers, this is the main chemical in the bonding agents. That could work, but I don't know what kind of plastic is in phone cases. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE YOU MAY CAUSE TO YOUR PHONE. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...kbCrU7S0ixuXDgNCg&sig2=RKxdYs_f8e0B_MyT25yseQ Here's a wikipedia link. Good Luck!
Hi All,
I just thought of painting the back of my sensation, just the panels with the antennas I have a spare so it's okay if something goes wrong. But I read somewhere that sandpapering these panels could mess with the antennas. But what about just covering it with a little spraypaint or something?
From what I understand, the antennas run through the plastic in the back cover (hence the contact points on the inside of the case). If you were to sand all the way through and into the metal antennas, that could have a performance drop - maybe. However, lightly sanding just enough to remove paint? Doubt it. Maybe I'll paint mine as well. I have both a black and a white and much prefer the white cover.
Same here, but I also thought about just painting over the white back cover, that wouldn't do any harm now would it?
There are threads that show the alloy panels sanded down and polished (look great by the way) and no performance drop there, so you should be able to do the same prep the surface down the the bare metal, prime and paint away
Post up your results it may encourage others to follow you
I'm sorry, but do you mean the big backpanel or the small panels with the antennas? Because I want to paint the panels with the antennas, I'm also considering sanding the big panel and maybe making it shiny!
I will certainly post results if I have them!!

How will you be painting it? Are you going to use spraypaint?
That's what I was thinking of.
was getting bored and tried a custom paint job the battery cover, Have already done one a GSM Galaxy Nexus.
This one did not come out as perfect. Did not sand properly and forgot to put masking tape on the inside.
Personally am a sucker for black red
Nice. Would like to see something more elaborate.
Nice!!! Have any shots of it on the phone...would like to see what it's like all together.
will try to get pictures on the phone once I get home, I did a custom paint job my gnex and that looked sick.

In this case I screwed up as I forgot to tape the insides and also did not sand properly. will see if I have time to redo over the weekend as it takes around 4-5 hours for the whole effort.
Glad you guys like it.
The Black and Red GNex is wicked...I was thinking of painting my case (I drop my phone a lot, a case is a must)...I'll look into to doing this.
show us what you come up with bro ...
Will do

Hey munchy_cool,
Im gonna try spraying the white plastic outer shell of the otterbox commuter to black.
Just wanted to know a few things before i get into it..
1. Will a 400 grit sandpaper do ? Couldn't find the 800 one.
2. Also i got this quick drying lacquer spray ( acrylic epoxy) for automobiles, by Bosny, will it be fine.. ?
Couldnt find any adhesion promoter either.. Is it necessary for a lacquer spray ?
3. I found the duplicolor vinyl and fabric and adhesion promoter on ebay, but its way overpriced.. Around 30$ for each can, is it worth buying at that price ? Or will this bosny spray will do.. ?

hey dude, considering you are in India just go to a paint ship in there and they'll do it for less than what it costs you .
Also, a 400 grit should do , just remove the previous layer of paint if any on the otterbox.
I read that the Bosny epoxy is a primer, do you have the color also in the bosny..if that be the case then you do not need Duplicolor.
Just try on a small piece of plastic first to see how it looks, coz it's one way traffic, if you screw up the otterbox will have to repainted.

Otterbox doesnt seem to have any layer, just white molded plastic I guess.
Yup i got the flat black color. Didn't want anything glossy, was gonna try it on an old cover first.. Cause I just recently got this case, don't wanna spoil it.
So the steps are
-Wet sanding
-one layer of the paint
-Let it dry for 10mins
-how many layers should I add ?
Also should I sand the surface after the final layer has dried or is it just for cars ?
Will get on with it by the end of this week and let you know.. Thanks

after wet sanding wash it with water and then let it dry in the sun.
clean with a nylon cloth so as to remove any dust particles etc just before the first layer.
2-3 layers should be good.
do not sand after the last layer, in case after each layer you see that you have paint bubbles at any place just sand that area so as to remove the bubbles ...
all the best and lemme know in case you need any more help
Ok, just tried the paint on a good quality plastic after wet sanding it, 2 layers.. it came out really good.. nice even matt black finish.. even experimented a bit by sanding it again.. still the color didnt go.. so all in all it was a successful expt..
The only thing stopping me from spraying it on my phone cover is that it has this strong chemical smell to it. The can says it is Lead free but i cant imagine using my phone with the cover smelling so pungent. Dropping the plan to paint the cover for now.. lets see if the smell goes away in the coming days..
Thanks for guiding munchy_cool, much appreciated
pictures or it did not happen
haha.. uploading photos now.. btw.. the smell has gone down drastically.. hardly any there actually.. so maybe by tonight or tommorow it'll go away completely
This is the original color, it was just a trial, so didnt really click pics for before and after..
This is after 2 layers and some sanding again on the sprayed paint
nice work there dude ...
how did you make your phone square shaped ?
It's my first post so I would like to say hi to everyone,
I would like to replace the chrome bezel from my device. It's all scratched and it doesn't look good. I know that some people are just removing the "chrome" paint and sand it but in my case plastic underneath is light gray so it won't look good in my opinion.
I've read that screen is glued to the bezel and it's not so easy to do it that's why it would be great if someone could write step-by-step tutorial how to do it or to share his experience. Is it possible to do it at home without damaging the device?
i am also looking to change the bezel. From what i have found out so far the home button and the touch buttons (menu and back) are attached to the bezel. Also those buttons are glued to the screen and the screen itself glued to the bezel and the housing underneath it. So it should be very difficult and risky to try to change it. Most people in these forums agree that it is impossible to remove the screen without breaking it.
I can't really believe it is impossible to do it, and all who reported on it have tried to replace broken screens so maybe they were not careful enough. On the other hand no one has claimed to successfully removing the screen without damaging it.
Better be safe and hide the ugliness behind a case or something
So i decided to sand the chrome away in mine first to see if can get it look good and thus avoiding the hussle of opening the case
here are some photos of my work so far. Now i need to polish it
It looks really good with your white backplate... but I prefair to keep my phone black
How did you remove the chrome.. Sand it away? i tried scratching it off but it too risky in some places
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
i used a nail file to sand the chrome away. I covered the edges of the screen with some tape to prevent scratches and also had a screen protector on just in case.
Just jam the tape in the gap between the bezel and he screen, you 'll be fine.
Also patience is highly advised
It looks prety good.
where did you get the white backplate from
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-BAT...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item3cc4149074
how much to pay?
It look very nice with white bezel.nice work!
my s plus was white to begin with,i didn't change that.
actually the bezel is grey and not white, it doesn't look all that great up close but it's still better than the damaged chrome.
i mean to paint it glossy white to match the backplate as much as possible but i am still looking for the right paint.
i will come back and upload more photos when done

It's very nice
How about paiting the border black after you sand it down? I'm thinking of doing this with some spray paint.

Thank you for this post. It gave me the confidence to try this on my back SGS.
On the corners of the bezel, the paint had chipped off making the phone look ugly. So I used my nails and blunt side of the blade to chip away the paint.
I found out that there are 2 layers of paint on top of the bezel. First is the black glossy paint which actually chips off.. Underneath that is the silver shade. This cannot be chipped off. You have to use your nails to make it go away. But later I figured out aftershave liquid just does fine and easy job. So maybe alcohol or nail polish remover would also work.
Since I used my nails and blunt blade, there are no signs of roughness or scratches on the surface except for 1 or 2 which is barely visible. So thankfully no need of polishing. The device looks much better now.
If you have figured out about the painting the bezel, let us know. Thanks!
