What am I missing?? - Samsung Infuse 4G

I was trying to install a custom ROM on my infuse, but bricked it. Now I ODIN back and can get to either the CWM recovery screen OR the Android system recovery 3e screen but here is where it gets weird, I cannot figure out for the life of me why I cannot flash from a zip file, I always end up with both recoveries telling me that my storage is not pre-paired yet. The read out goes some thing like this:
--Copying media files...
E:failed to mount /dbdata (file exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount /dbdata
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
Media files copy failed.
Please if anyone has a idea, shoot me your thoughts. Thanks in advance

What rom are you trying to flash?
You are on stock froyo, correct?
What method are you using to get cwm?

[Q] Unable to mount data partition read/write

Hey
I'm trying to change from Prime to Revolution ROMs, but during wiping, I seem to be hitting a problem. When coming to wipe /data, it says it can't remove bootanimation.zip. I'm trying to go in via adb and do this manually, but it won't seem to let me mount /data as read write.
I'm using adb shell while in recovery, and it isn't giving an error message, just constantly staying as ro. This is using clockword recovery 3.2.0.1.
Anyone know what else I can try?
Thanks for your help.
Do you want to give it a try with root explorer?
Forgot to mention, since I've tried wiping, it now just bootloops. Recovery is all I can get into.
edit:
Just to make it clearer what's happening, I'll do it step by step:
- Load recovery, and open adb shell on my PC
-Mount data in recovery, check it in adb shell and it shows it as read/write
-Go to delete a directory or file, and it say's it's read only, check mounts and it's gone back to ro
-If I unmount and remount, it will go back to being RW, but then the same as above happens.
-My problem is when I try to wipe or format in recovery, it gives an error saying it can't delete a certain file
Managed to fix it now. It appears that while using the Superwipe Full script for Revolution ROM, the file table got completely messed up. I used parted to reformat the data partition as ext2, and I can boot now.
I've managed to get that awful Rom (Destroyer) Manager off of my TF101G and have got Rogue on via PERI and now I'm trying to flash the stock ASUS ICS Rom but can't delete the Dalvik Cache because I'm unable to mount /data
Code:
- - Wiping all user data - -
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure
Cache wipe complete.
Formatting /cache...
Cache wipe complete.
Wiping dalvik-cache...
Error mounting /data!
I'm assuming that /data is stuck on read only?
Manually fixing permissions and then mounting /data also shows the same error.

Did you have a voodoo enabled kernel on there before? If so, you'll need to flash a ROM, then flash a voodoo enabled kernel for that rom, then go into recovery & disable voodoo. Sounds like you have a bunch of ext4 filesystems which the native ROM/OS can't handle.

Surely. Flash Raver's KJ6 ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
Then flash drhonk's KJ1 kernel (put it in the PDA section of ODIN):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
That will put you on the latest Gingerbread ROM with a kernel that has CWM, voodoo, and root.
If you want to flash back to KC1 after that, reboot the phone into recovery mode and (using the vol + & vol - to navigate up and down, power button to select):
- Scroll down & select the 'voodoo' menu
- Select 'disable lagfix'
- Select '/system lagfix off'
- Select '+++++ Go Back+++++'
- Select 'reboot system now'
Let the phone fully boot. It might take a few minutes while Linda converts the file systems from ext4 back to rfs. Once it's fully booted, you should be able to flash KC1. Just ensure the KC1 you have contains Froyo boot loaders else you'll end up in a boot loop or with the rainbow screen.

If you can get into download mode the instructions I gave you should work OK. Definitely let me know how it goes, though.

Successfully applied multi-CSC.
No, /data doesn't reside on the sdcard (that's mounted as /sdcard, different mounts). Check the Dev section for Chadster's KG4 leak. It has 4 files in it, one of which is the .pit file. I wonder if flashing that would help? Just put the .pit file in PIT, the CSC file in CSC, the Phone file in PHONE, and the other file in PDA.

Yeah, it's in the Bible in the Dev section. The Bible is your friend Here's the direct link:

Awesome bro, glad it's working. You should be able to flash drhonk's kg4 kernel with cwm/root/voodoo, upgrade to KJ6, or whatever you want to do now.

[Q] ummu i no what it is, just 1 small question

idk why im confused. can someone please verify. want to flash erikmm rom
ummu - unmount system, mount cache, mount emmc, unmount sdcard?
is this what we want to see and leave everything else the same?
if we did have to flash stock rom. do we mess with these again?
Yep to your first question. And if restoring a backup you don't need to worry about them. Otherwise I'm not sure? Sorry.

Hey, I can answer your question
In erikmm's thread, he said:
erikmm said:
Installation Instructions:
1. Must have efs backup on desktop * just in case *
2. Nand Backup
3. Format System
4. Set Mounts to UMMU. *unmount cache, mount data, mount sdcard, unmount system*
5. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
6. Flash Rom
7. Reboot
8. Let the phone sit for 10 minutes then enjoy.

First, you want to flash this ROM. You should odin back to stock, and odin recovery ( for a full wipe )
Make sure Battery is full charged before odin these things
Second. Go to recovery. Volume up + Down + Power.
1.Backup ( of course )
2. After that, format system, try to format 3 times.
3. Go to Mounts & USB Storage
You'll see a lot of things. Make sure you check in this
unmount cache
mount data
mount emmc
unmount system
is correct.
If you see one of these option is different than erikmm said, you'll try to correct them. Ex: You see in CWM "unmount data", you can correct by press Power button to changed it to " mountd data "
And the same as another options
4. Make sure you correct right things in CWM. After that, do an wipe data/fatory resets ( 3 times, I think ) and flash erikmm's ROM in your SDcard
5. Reboot, wait for 10 minutes, and enjoy
Maybe the confusion is this... inside the "Mounts and Storage Menu" lists as follows...
mount /efs
unmount /data
unmount /cache
unmount /emmc
mount /sdcard
mount sd-ext
format /data
format /system
format /cache
format /emmc
format /sdcard
format /sd-ext
mount USB storage
+++++Go Back+++++
thus the UMMU stated is not in that order and what about the others?
Be safe and have fun.
You no longer need to mess with the mounts when installing erikmm's ROMs.

HELP :crying:
I have the same problem. I know what lead me to it.
Its an Asus SL101
I have cyanogenmod correctly installed. In order to install a megatron rom I downloaded their app called megatron apps. Trying to download a rom from them I got validation error at end of download and I make the stupidity of change the download dir from /mnt/sdcard to /sdcard and then when I restart again it doesn´t load and CWM recovery give me the same errors (unable to mount /data or unable to mount /sdcard when cleaning cache or trying to restore a backup ).
The only thing I have been able to do its to install Rogue XM Recovery 1.5.0 instead of CWM 6.x ) but the problem to apply an update or restore a backup persists.
Any idea ?
Aaargh.
After a year and a half of heavy CWM and TWRP usage, this has suddenly happened to me too, possibly after flashing the updated TWRP blob from Goo Manager (although that's conjecture at best). My ROM (RaymanFX' CM10 v6) is fine in everyday use - no problems whatsoever, but now I want to update, and my recovery won't let me.
In the hope that something simply went wrong during recovery blob flash, I successfully deleted TWRP and flashed a different recovery (latest CWM) from ROM Manager, but the new recovery can't mount anything either - neither sd card, data, or cache. The error messages are more or less identical to TWRP's errors. My system MAY be readable, but I can't backup or restore or flash anything anyway, so I don't dare format it.
I don't have a Windows PC, so I haven't tried Easy Flasher. I could try it on my work computer if there's no way around it and if neither OSX or Ubuntu can help.
Any suggestions?

How to lagfix when speedMod deleates CWM? this or other fix for Internal SD card prob

I tried upgrading my old phone,a S1 i9000 to cm10 which resulted in a bunch of errors. I than tried to flash back to stock, however i was still getting:
