[Q] Can't Factory data reset my phone. Help?? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hey everyone so idk what happened i was trying to run the kc1 kernal so i can have CWM and i can't reboot or factory data reset my phone.
This is what it says when i try to factory data reset my phone on Manual Mode:
--Wiping data...
Formating /data...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
Formating /cache...
Data wipe complete.
Than when i try and reboot my phone it says:
E:failed to mount /data (invaled argument)
E:copy_logs_files_to_data :: can't mount /datareboot...
Than it just goes through a boot loop
Is this because i axcidently partition my micro sdcard and lost everything on my micro sdcard??
Is there anything that can help me? Links and other stuff would be very appreciated. Please help asap!!

Did you have a voodoo enabled kernel on there before? If so, you'll need to flash a ROM, then flash a voodoo enabled kernel for that rom, then go into recovery & disable voodoo. Sounds like you have a bunch of ext4 filesystems which the native ROM/OS can't handle.

Surely. Flash Raver's KJ6 ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
Then flash drhonk's KJ1 kernel (put it in the PDA section of ODIN):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
That will put you on the latest Gingerbread ROM with a kernel that has CWM, voodoo, and root.
If you want to flash back to KC1 after that, reboot the phone into recovery mode and (using the vol + & vol - to navigate up and down, power button to select):
- Scroll down & select the 'voodoo' menu
- Select 'disable lagfix'
- Select '/system lagfix off'
- Select '+++++ Go Back+++++'
- Select 'reboot system now'
Let the phone fully boot. It might take a few minutes while Linda converts the file systems from ext4 back to rfs. Once it's fully booted, you should be able to flash KC1. Just ensure the KC1 you have contains Froyo boot loaders else you'll end up in a boot loop or with the rainbow screen.

If you can get into download mode the instructions I gave you should work OK. Definitely let me know how it goes, though.

The rom and this is what it says now:

No, /data doesn't reside on the sdcard (that's mounted as /sdcard, different mounts). Check the Dev section for Chadster's KG4 leak. It has 4 files in it, one of which is the .pit file. I wonder if flashing that would help? Just put the .pit file in PIT, the CSC file in CSC, the Phone file in PHONE, and the other file in PDA.

Awesome bro, glad it's working. You should be able to flash drhonk's kg4 kernel with cwm/root/voodoo, upgrade to KJ6, or whatever you want to do now.

[Q] Wiping Data issue with CWM

basically i have an issue every time i wipe my data to flash a new rom, i think this is causing my roms not to work as well as they should. Basically it says its formating /data
formating /chache
formating /sd-ext...
E: formate_volume: Make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
formating /sdcard/.android_secure
data wipe complete.
What is this file that isnt being formated? Is there another way for me to remove this from my phone so that it is basically completely clean? Even after Odining back to stock i cant remove this.
Any feedback would be nice.
have you ever ran the ext4 converter? If so that might be it. If you really want to get rid of that than (only my opinion) run the rfs formatter.
Hope that makes sense

If you try that and it doesn't work, try formatting your sd card, then odin to kc1. Now you will have a 100% fresh start. After you odin, let the phone sour for 10 min. When you get cwm again, run the ext4 converter, and then flash the rom. let it sit for another 15 min. And try wiping again and see what it says.

what do you mean by kc1?
basically, odin to a stock rom. KC1 is the rom i usually recommend. im pretty sure following what i said before will get rid of this problem after you odin. check the bible for the files.

Ext4 to rfs

Does anyone know how to change the file system formatting from Ext4 back to Rfs somewhat like the ext4 formatter? This would be helpful when flashing from ext4 nandroid backups to stock Rfs nandroid backups. So far this has been unsuccessful for me.

The voodoo control app will turn it off. Then you need to reboot to make the changes.

That will only work if you are using a Voodoo kernel. I can find the needed commands to format everything to rfs for you then and create a CWM zip that will do it for you (or modify one if I can find it) so you can go back to RFS. However, CWM should format partitions before restoring.
I have always used the charge.pit file with repartition checked and ee4 to convert back to rfs via odin. I have also been told this charge.pit works with gb as well...
Try this. It's similar to the ext4 formatting package but should convert everything back to RFS for you. However, it is untested, so it may not work. I think I have it all setup properly, but I'm not completely sure.
Sweet bro., Thanks, I will try this; not sure why but when I try to go from Humble 5.2 or say your newest Infinity Rom back to the either leaked EP4D or the stock ota rooted EP4D, it gives me an error in CWM saying that the file system isn't RFS. All of the other ROMS are ext4. Something else that was interesting was I tried to format the OTA with the ext4 all formatter and it bricked my phone. Nothing worked except the charge pit and EE4 odin. I will give this a shot and tell you the results. thanks for the speedy answers. (BTW- I donwloaded some of the software to compare and contrast ROM's in Kdiff and it always gives me a Runtime error and force closes.I am trying this on xDark 4.3 tweaked so this might the issue, but any thoughts on this is appreciated.)
EDIT: I tried the rfs-all-formatter and it said it worked, but when I tried to restore the nandroid for EP4D stock rooted, it gives me this error:
format_rfs_device failed on /dev/block/st110
system won't mount either.
I then used the ext4 formatter and can restore Infinity or Humble no problem.

[Q]My 9003 is broken

My 9003 can't work from last week.
I just got the "com.sec.android.app.twlaucher" broken(force close) and all other applications are also broken even I flashed with any new ROM.
The whole broken story is here:
1. I installed XXKPQ with CWM, and created a backup with CWM
2. Then flashed it with DDKP2 by Odin
3. I got a application broken, and tried to backup DDKP2 with CWM and stopped by incident
4. I tried to restore OS with the backup in step 1
5. I got many Force Close after I restored the OS
6. I tried to flash with any ROM, but always got Force close for any application(even the com.sec.android.phone)
Can anyone give advice for it?
Or I have to change a new memory chip?
Thanks!

Dont restore the backup of one firmware over another firmware.
Flash xxkpe twice aand over it flash xxkpq with factory reset after flashing each time. Use this guideforum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787
Sent from my GT-I9003
I tried to format the data, but it didn't work. I can see the previous installed application broken even I flashed with new ROM(Re-partion).
It seems something was locked by system.
Follow this guide to flash XXKPQ Check if everything works well. Try to restore your CWM backup
I tried to flash XXKPE/XXKPQ, but I got a wrong message "E: failed to mount /data (Invalid argument)" when the phone startup".
And the phone repeated to restart, I can't the normal phone.
It seems there is something wrong with the partion of /data.
Is there other way to fix it?
the /data is ext4, I am not sure XXKPQ support ext4 or not.
When flashing XXKPE with pit and all the other stuff you should see Re-Partition checked. Then everything should be formatted with the standard RFS filesystem unless you convert it. The stock Kernel doesn't support ext4, but that doesn't mean that you can't try to flash a Kernel that supports ext4.
Did you let the phone boot up completly after every flash?
I didn't let XXKPE boot up completely after flash.
It seems that the /data partion was not reset in flashing with the "Re-partion" selected.
I got error message when I tried to check the disk status.
/sbin # fsck.ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
fsck.ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
e2fsck 1.41.6 (30-May-2009)
/dev/block/mmcblk0p3: recovering journal
fsck.ext4: unable to set superblock flags on /dev/block/mmcblk0p3

What am I missing??

I was trying to install a custom ROM on my infuse, but bricked it. Now I ODIN back and can get to either the CWM recovery screen OR the Android system recovery 3e screen but here is where it gets weird, I cannot figure out for the life of me why I cannot flash from a zip file, I always end up with both recoveries telling me that my storage is not pre-paired yet. The read out goes some thing like this:
--Copying media files...
E:failed to mount /dbdata (file exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media: Can't mount /dbdata
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
Media files copy failed.
Please if anyone has a idea, shoot me your thoughts. Thanks in advance

How to lagfix when speedMod deleates CWM? this or other fix for Internal SD card prob

I tried upgrading my old phone,a S1 i9000 to cm10 which resulted in a bunch of errors. I than tried to flash back to stock, however i was still getting:
E:failed to mount /sdcard (File exists)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /sdcard
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu
for format and reboot actions.
Meida files copy failed.
system unable to Format /data...Internal SD card cannot be mounted and such.
I first tried flashing dbdata.rfs, didn't help
Then i tried doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...8#post30415128 (Flash a JVU+Root with a 512 Pit (repartition ticked) ...)
I also tried flashing just pit with rep,and then JVU, ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817186 )
Then i found this- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31017954&postcount=5335
And tried to flash a speedmod kernel (fixed JVU kernel) in order to get the "universal lag fix menu" on cwm. However after i flash it i don't have cwm anymore.
I've been working on this for hours...please help.. What do i do?
EDIT: Flahsed very old version stock jp something, got same message on recovery but then booted.. into...cm10 . I just got the boot and then black screen.
