I was wondering if the fact that an app is moved on sd can worsen battery life, due to mandatory access and "calls" to files stored on a device (sd) that is supposed to use more power than the internal flash......
you may have a right about that because apps that are stored in sd take more time to load(that means more power) than in internal storage but until now i have all my apps in sd and i haven't noticed such a thing yet
I would say the battery drain will be unnoticeable if that is really true. Moreover, we don't really have a choice due to the tiny size of our internal flash, we still need to move apps to the SD somehow.

I have a stock Motorola defy+ updated to 2.3.6. Been using it less than 6 months.
I have about 150 apps. About 50 are games and all games are transfer into my 64MB of sd card. The rest of the apps are in the phone memory.
Recently the phone started constantly automatically rebooting usually after i change battery, it will stays on for about 2-5min after the reboot, then it turn off and reboots again. This goes on for about 3 cycle before it all went well. At times it only auto reboot once after start up.
Initially i thought its the app so i reset the phone but still this occurs.
Everything seem normal and functioning well except for the few ocassion everytime when i change to a fully charged battery (because i have alot of spare batteries) , it will reboot again and again 2-5mins after the reboot.
This happen everytime i change to a full charged battery, does the battery got to do with it?
in addition, my phone is always very laggy too and whenever I run too much application that consume alot of memory, it will reboot itself too but that happen seldom. My cpu consumption is also always very high and i wonder why because do not run any major background processes except those from Motorola service(quite abit), Super task killer and NQ mobile security app.
anybody can offer advise?
Thanks.

If ur phone is rooted try overclocking the CPU to make up for the number of apps. Also try partitioning the SD card and putting the apps there instead because if u put so many on the SD with apps2sd the phone gets real slow as it loads all of them
Read about rooting, overclocking and partitioning

I'm receiving a warning, "Low on volume space - internal storage space is getting low" . Looking at the Android memory stats, it doesn't look too low. Anyhow, what's the best way of cleaning things up?
Thanks.

Delete unused apps and clear data/cache for apps.
Anyone here gotten low memory warnings? I've seen them pop up three times in as many days. I'm usually running a few active tasks with some push services in the background, but nothing that should be consuming massive amounts of RAM. Anytime this happens, by the time I get to the settings menu to check the running apps the used/free indicator is sitting at about the midway point. I'm thinking of using a desktop widget to give me quick access to the memory usage and task list but while I search for one that will actually be hepful I figured I should poke the community to see if anyone else has seen this.
Never seen such messages here.
To monitor free RAM and what's running use a simple app like Task Manager.
Do you kill most of the cached apps? If not, one of those may be keeping memory hogged. (top right when you're in Running Apps menu under settings). Don't kill all of them, but things like media, Google search and apps can be killed.
Does it mean the RAM memory or the internal SDmemory? I've never seen the warning, but it could be referring to too little free mamory space.

It means RAM... have plenty of actual storage space. As for killing processs, I tend not to worry about that since Android is supposed to take care of them for me. Cached apps *should* be cleared when RAM gets low. I'm wondering if the low memory warning is being triggered before the system has time to reclaim resources. In other words, the threshold is reached, android starts to kill cached threads but it takes longer than it should so the warning pops up before the cleaning process completes. This would explain why the RAM shows around 50% usage right after I see the message. Well, if no one else is seeing anything like this it could just be some combination of processes I'm running that are holding on to things longer than they should.
Can I save battery and resources by not using a memory card? Unmounting the memory card on settings is the same as removing the memory card from the slot in terms of power consumption?

Hey,
You can save battery by closing all background apps and reducing screen brightness or disabling data services
Click Thank if you find my post as useful
The SD Card doesn't do much in terms of anything battery hungry. Unmounting it won't give a noticeable battery increase and you won't be able to use it, so any benefits would be negligible

Thanks for the replies. I managed to find how much the SD Card consumes from wikipedia. Since I'm not using my phone for multimedia purposes and all of my files are stored on my phone, I'll just keep it unmounted. I'll just leave it inside the slot in case I need to backup something. :good:
The day before yesterday I decided to reset/repair the phone from sony companion in an attempt to solve the battery drain (I think due to cell radio standby, shown as the biggest consumer in the power management list) and trying to install one app at a time to figure if app-related.
Right from the start I uninstalled/disabled a few stock apps, including twitter/facebook. I am using however google now, aquamail. As I also suspect spotify to be a huge drainer I didn't install it yet but I am listening to music from sdcard through poweramp.
So yesterday, first day usage, with moderate usage, was heading to almost 6hrs sot which is a big improvement from 3-4 sot before reset, same usage pattern except spotify.
At 40% batt I updated a few apps amongst them sony albums.
The main sdcard is mostly empty since reset. I have kept however the few photos/video and the music folder on external sdcard.
Right after last night update noticed the phone is draining fast even with screen off. Mediaserver shows some cpu time but also keeping the phone awake the whole time.
So i have cleared cache/data of media storage app, rebooted, put a .nomedia file in the music folder. A couple hours later, battery at 80% after 30 min sot, mediaserver is again keeping my phone awake.
I don't see anything else relevant to this issue on forums aside from things I already did, reset with sdcard wipe included.
Any idea what to try next?
Do you have lot of media on your external sd?
Remove your sd and try.
Please ignore my previous post. the mediaserver indexing might just be legit as I found a huge bunch of pics on my external sdcard, probably copied there before reset. All photos sync is off, imagine mediascanner has trouble with that many files. The solution was for me to delete them as really don't need them on device but you might use the .nomedia file trick.
I have cleared media storage data and restart the app, I expect this to solve it, will let you know if that's not the case
