I recently upgraded my HTC One X to Android 4.0.4 and HTC Sense 4.1. But there seems to be a mismatch between the version number being displayed for HTC Sense.
If I go to "Settings > About > Software information" then it shows HTC Sense version as 4.1.
If I go to "Settings > Apps > All (tab) > HTC Sense" then it shows version number as 3.5.
Is this normal? Are these version numbers different? I didn't check this version number before so I don't know what was its original value.
I guess it's normal. Mine shows sense 3.5 under "apps" and sense 4 under "about". Not sure why its that way though.
Sense 4.1? I'm on sense 4.0 with android 4.04...

Ok, mine says 4.0 also on Android 4.04, but in 4.0 you could not get rid of the 3 button menu thing at the bottom of the screen. With the 4.1 update you can go into Display, gestures & buttons then Recent apps button and it will give you 3 choices. 2 of them will get rid of the 3 button menu at the bottom of your screen. The 2 choices moves the menu button down to the recent apps button. From what I can tell that is the only difference between 4.0 & 4.1.

I was about to say that too. I'm on 4.04 and have sense 4.0. I thought htc wasn't going to release 4.1 until December sometime.

Unless it was updated and the only thing they changed was Recent app button choices and just kept it at 4.0. I know when I first got the phone the 3 button thing drove me up a wall and I was reading on another forum that with 4.1 you could get rid of the buttons by going into Display, gestures and buttons to change it. So I tried it and it worked. Some apps appear a little stretched but that's it.
Was it an official update or just a custom Rom? Maybe the custom Rom is just a hack of things.
It was an official update

It was an official update. I have not rooted the phone or installed any custom ROM. Also after the update the UI seems to be a bit sluggish.

Is your update also officially from HTC, I mean your phone is not rooted and no custom ROMs?
Maybe HTC forgot to update some of their strings?

It must be that they updated it and didn't change the number because I can get rid off the 3 buttons at the bottom. And I'm on sense 4.0

Is there anyway to change the HTC multitasking/recent apps layout to look like stock ICS (vertical list instead of horizontal)? Stock ICS recent apps menu is so much more productive than HTC's.

If you're on stock, HTC is providing an update to do this. If not, the ROM I'm currently using has this as an option and I'm sure other do too. The one I'm on is Nocturnal's RebelROM Senseless. Very stable as well.

The HTC update does NOT change the multitasking layout. The only way to have it at thhis time is to run an AOSP/AOKP ROM.
Hey guys,
I have the latest official OTA Update for my HTC One S on Bell.
Version 1.84.666.9
Sense 4.0 instead of 4.1 tmobile version
Android 4.0.3
I do not have the possibility to change the Recent apps button.
I would like to stay on stock rom just to avoid flashing rom updates and deal with glitches.
Should I just wait it out for jellybean or should I change my CID to something else?
Help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Are you rooted? There are mods that you can flash on the stock ROM that will remap the recent apps button. Look here. Otherwise there is no way to natively remap the buttons without sense 4.1.
Thanks!
Will I still get the possibility to update or not? To jelly bean or what not..

another Q
I need an easy way to root for only some apps that is required roo
Is this OK?

I don't understand your second point...
Are you asking to root certain apps? That's it? If that's the case, no. Root is a device wide procedure.
I thought Quick Settings wasn't in Sense 4.1 by default and was added in by the ROM devs here.

the new viper update was not jellybean its was just an update
Also, the JB update for ViperXL (when it comes) would almost certainly require a downloading and flashing a the entire ROM, not just an OTA update.
The viper update was bug fixes. I would assume that turge is working on a jb port but he's a busy guy. I would guess at least a week before we start seeing some stable jb sense ports (besides newts). Personally I can't wait for viperxl with jb

Its not possible to run the stock UI from HTC One GE on our phone because of screen resolution. Maybe it could be resized with VTS but its easier to hope that there will be a CM 10 at some time.

Yes hopefully but even that, the Samsung UI looks beautiful, much lighter and brighter, HTC UI its too dark i guess, I tried all the App launchers but i didnt find anything that feels like the Stock Android version. BUt hopefully their will be an updated to 4.2.2 or one of the Rom developer will release it.
