Hi all!,
I have to transfer about 10Gb thought USB from a XP pc.
The problem is that it seems that after 10min (more o less), the connection is broken (I think it's to charge the tablet) so I can't transfer the whole data.
Is there any method to avoid this behaviour?
I tried to deactivate the auto turn off of the screen but it didn’t work. The only way is to use the tablet during the transfer but since it takes a lot of time I would prefer another method.
Any idea?
Thanks!
PD: I was reading the foro for a long time but this is my first post!
Strange ! I've got no trouble copying movies from PC to TF700 in USB (both on XP and 7)
But I found a faster to do this : Airdroid (Wifi)
Install apk on your tab. On your computer, open navigator and go to web.airdroid.com.
Enter the password give by your tab.
Enjoy !

I use airdroid for my transfer as well. I don't think screen turn off should matter. But in any event, how about giving a try on airdroid and make sure you have WIFI set to on always even when screen is off. Usually 1GB file takes I believe somewhere 5-10 minutes for me so by simple math 10GB may take up to 50 minutes to an hour and half. Alternative would be to simply copy to microsd.
If it is a shared drive you can use ES File Explorer to copy.

Try enabling Performance mode - otherwise when the screen goes out that tablet might automatically disable the USB port after a certain amount of time to save battery.

ummmm....then, I'll try to unplug the others usb devices just in case there are some kind of interference...
Thanks!
(airdroid is not a solution for me....I don't know if my desktop has wifi (it's plugging directly to the wifi router, will it work?), anyway after the last news, I'll wait and if JB doen't fix the issue, I'll try to use airdroid)
If you have the dock and a USB drive you should be able to transfer to the drive first and then to the tablet. It's an additional step but it may work in your case.

Ok, I'll try it and tell you the results!!
ES explorer can be another possibility.
Thanks a lot!
Get a 16 gig micro sd card with full size adaptor. Transfer the files directly from pc. Probably the fastest way to do it. If you have usb adaptor you can use a usb drive and do the same thing.

Airdroid does not require both devices to be on WiFi, it requires both devices to be connected to the same router / LAN. IOW, if you connect your tablet via WiFi to the same LAN as your computer is connected to, it will work.
OnAir is another solution as well, but works slightly differently - it creates a temporary FTP daemon that runs on the device that you can then connect to. Again, same LAN for best results.

I don't know what to do about this sudden problem. I've had my transformer since early May with the dock. I've never had any trouble connecting to any computer via the usb cable until this past weekend. Now all of a sudden it won't even show as connected when the tablet is connected to the dock.
So I tried it directly connected to the tablet and it will connect and come up on the computer but most of the time it kicks out after a little bit or when loading the files in a folder it just gets stuck loading and will not move so I can't move files to it.
I know I can transfer files with things like dropbox, but I move files every day and don't feel like fighting with the transformer for a half hour every day to get files where I want them when under normal circumstances I can move them in seconds via usb.
I tried calling support but all I got was a bunch of BS about needing to install all the software from their site which I actually did and it didn't fix anything.
Both computers I normally use are Windows 7 64 bit machines.
Anyone run into a similar issue? Any ideas?
Thank you ahead of time.
Try enable USB debugging.
Go to Settings --> Applications --> Development --> Check box for USB Debugging.
There's fews options you can (Do a backup first) try:
1) Reset to factory settings.
2) Format your microSD.
3) Re-flash the ROM.
Besides there's many ways to transfer files from Asus pad to PC.
Wireless Transfer.
FTP Transfer.
Wireless or FTP.
OP, sorry to hear about the issue. In the instances where you are able to connect via USB, if you leave it alone (don't' touch it), then can it complete the transfer? Since the Transformer uses the same connector to charge and transfer, I'm just wondering if the connector is physically getting lose or something.
When I had the transformer, I usually use the micro-SD card to transfer files. But that's just me.

Not to criticize your idea or be a jerk...but what does that mean? I don't think 1) wireless transfer and 2)FTP transfer counts as two different methods of transfer. That's like calling USB and "drag-and-drop" two different ways of transferring stuff to devices. Wireless is wireless, whether you're using a FTP protocol or just downloading using the browser.
Similar Issue
I had a similar issue when (but before) I rooted my TF. My Windows 7 64-bit machines wouldn't notice my device unless debugging was enabled and then I couldn't "safely" disconnect the device unless I disabled debugging.
I'm not quite sure what the issue is there but that is how I connect and disconnect.
Thanks for the reply. USB debugging was already turned on so I tried without it. No luck. I'm on hold with support again. If nothing comes from it I guess I will need to reformat. I never rooted so I doubt it's a rom issue.
As I was typing they said to download and install the latest firmware. I've kept this thing up to date, but I guess it's worth a try.

I got it to work one time. Every other time it just gets stuck loading the content of the folder. If I try to add anything it just sits there as it seems to be waiting for it finish loading. It's just so weird as it has worked perfectly for two months now and then all of the sudden it stopped working. I would maybe understand if there was an update or something but nothing's changed on the tablet or the computers.
I have the same issue with my usb and EVERY device. It all started when I updated the usb drivers with the nvflash certificate. Now when I want to use a usb device or my on board card reader I have to uninstall the general usb driver in the windows device manager, and for new devices. Only then will it recognize whatever I may have conected.

With wireless (using Wifi File Explorer), you just enter the asus epad (ip address) on the browser to download/upload/etc... files from your asus pad.
With FTP, you will need install ftp client on your windows to access files on your device.

Windows XP and newer versions already have an FTP client - Windows Explorer.
I use the free "Software Data Cable" app. It creates the FTP server on your Transformer, and gives you the address to type into Windows Explorer.
It works great! You can transfer files using your PC, which is a lot easier than doing it on the Transformer.
I haven't used the USB connection since!
Thanks for the replies. I think this thing needs to be rma'd. I just did a factory reset and it's still having issues. I managed to get it connected only through a direct connection and it won't even let me create a folder. It's getting a little late to do it now so I'll call asus tomorrow morning and get it started.
Hey XDA,
Two days ago I updated my transformer to 3.2 after a 2 months that I didn't used him, after the update I noticed that when I connect the transformer to my PC, the PC doesn't recognize him and the transformer himself didn't open the Asus Sync app to find the ASUS SYNC in the PC.
Its not the USB cable because it charging and its new.
Its not the USB port I tried another device.
Its not the computer \ OS , I have 2 windows on my computer and it doesn't work in any of them.
I tried to wipe twice , it end up with a lot of lost data that I forgot to backup.
I tried it in APX mode and its doesn't work either.
I tried USB Debug ON/OFF
I tried Reinstall drivers.
I really dont know what to do I search in google hours and I didn't find anything.
Thanks alot for helpers!
BTW sorry about my english.

Any idea ?? Its like the Asus Sync app in the pad doesn't work.
Does that happend to you after updated to 3.2?
probably still isn't the cable but just because it charges doesn't mean the cable isnt broken. The data uses different cores to the charging.

Not the first time. After a reset it started doing that.
Same problem here after updated to 3.2 no more working sync.
PC does recognize the transformer self open can open files on the SD card. But the Asus Sync app can't find the Transformer on the PC.

Where did you get the usb cable? I can't seem to find one anywhere.
What's wierd is that i never "tortured" the cable to account for it to break...
It's always in the same area, attached to the charger (only take it of to connect to the pc, wich is like, 15 cm away from the charger), no pulls, no sharp bends... but it fells fragile on the connector (dances a bit from side to side)

usb cable is not the problem.
Can connect to the PC en transfer files to/from the mem card.
Just restored a partition image form the PC witch was working before...
So problem must be in the transformer...
Cleaning was not working too

I tried rooting a couple of months ago & was unable to because I couldn't get Asus Sync Installed correctly. My problem was that when I connected my Transfomer to my computer the computer wasn't seeing it like a flash drive. I installed & uninstalled everything numerous times. I used about 3 different programs to cleanse my registry & delete all of the temp files. I use AVG & disabled everything that I could disable. Last week I was finally able to get everything working.

Thanks for your response, when you connected the transformer to the PC did the Asus Sync app\icon opened in the transformer? You can see this next to the clock, did you saw this before you fixed the problem ? Because when I bought the pad it was there, but now it doesn't.
Thanks for helping, please write back if you had or hadn't the icon.(Of Asus Sync app).

I downloaded now app called "System Panel" after I open this under "Power Information" menu I saw "USB - Yes", "AC - No" when I connected the pad to my PC, Now I am sure its not the cable . But if I want for example to make a hotspot from USB connection I cant , he says "USB Disconnected".
I tried reinstall drivers and everything you said, but now I am sure that this is the problem is from the Pad.
Someone have any idea please?

Same thing with me. Usb yes.
And ccleaner didnt help either.
Hey guys I'm on my phone so I don't have the actual apk names but do you still have the two apks that relate to the "phone" installed? I had a problem similar to this but fixed it by reinstalling one of those. Not sure if this will help but you can give it a try. One of the apks is phone and the other is voicemail I think ... They are both tied into bluetooth and usb I guess .... Like I said not sure if it will fix for you but worth a try.

Same here, no 3G support. If you could give at least the name of the apk so we can search and try it would be awsome
Cable Problem
In my case it was a cable problem (more precisely connector that is pluged in device). The connection isn't tight, the device was charging, but USB data transfer was not working, either it doesn't recognize the device, or if you manage to find a connector position in which it recognise it, usb connection is so unstable that it will stop working if you move it a little.
My question is, what would you do in my situation?
My Xoom connected to my computer (HP Pavilion dv6000) (Windows Vista) once before in past times. It will not connect anymore, I have done everything possible that people have said to do. Still in the same situation.
I connected it to my mothers Toshiba Satellite U505-S2950 (Windows 7)after installing Moto software, and its working perfectly.
Should I re-install Windows/Re-set to default? I've tried everything, from installing drivers, to changing permissions, to installing adb, blah blah blah.
I just recently found DropBox which I am using now, until I can figure out exactly what to do with my HP.
Anyone? TBH: I don't want to use my moms laptop every time I want to transfer a movie to my Xoom, rather it be mine.
Appreciation is high.
-Nic
So I guess you are using your original Xoom USB cable, and have tried different USB ports (like the ones on the back if you have a tower), you tried with debugging on and off, you've tried with the USB plugged into the Xoom 1st and then into the computer as well as the other way around...do you have Windows Media Player (9?) installed on your pc? It seems it needs it to connect....
Its not a solution to USB woes as I reckon I am in the same position with XP Windows machines, but an alternative.
Why not run a FTP Server on either your Laptop or your Xoom....
I doubt its as fast as USB transfer but may be quicker than Dropbox (definitely quicker for me in the UK with cruddy upload speeds !!!)
I use FTPServ on the PC and SwiFTP on the Xoom as the FTP Server - I just switch each one on when needed depending on which copy method I feel like using
I use Total Commander for the FTP Client on the Xoom.

Interesting idea...
This I suppose could be seen to be quite drastic, but it will fix 99.9% of all USB related issues across windows OS's
*** Read first before actioning ***
>Right click My computer and manage, you are using Vista? So will probably need to run as admin.
>Go to device management and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
>Ok delete the lot
>Yup delete the lot
What this means is that it should now prompt you to reinstall the drivers for any USB device plugged in to the PC, yes you may find that you have to unplug and replug in your keyboard and mouse to re-install the drivers for those devices. But it should also re-install the Motorola Xoom drivers also.
At the end of the days its quicker to try this than re-install Windows
Unfortunately not every USB Root Hub or Host controller displays what it actually is, some do but that's a case of right clicking each one to see what it is. If for example it states that its a mouse then perhaps don't delete that one but hopefully you get my drift.

I've been trying to get ES FM to work, it starts the BT service then spends hours (if let it) trying to get the file list from the PC - they are paired, but traveling from the tablet to the PC never works, but I can reverse it and transfer from the PC to the Tablet.
I'd really like it both ways. I also have Medevils (sp) Bluetooth File Transfer, but that can't connect to the PC.
SO, it would seem I'm missing the drivers, or config on the PC.

Its impossible to access EVERYTHING on your computer. For obvious security reasons.
What i would recommend, is simply creating a folder on your Windows PC, sharing that file across your network, then using ES navigate to that networked folder. Then, if you need something that isnt in that networked folder, use VNC to access and control your PC and simply copy the file to the networked folder. Then you got what you want

The sharing isn't the problem - it's the lack of being able to connect via BT. I can via WiFi but do not want to due to where I am.

I DO push files TO my tablet from my PC. But the reason no one else can is that they're paired and the tablet will/can only accept files from the PC, anything else and I'm notified and have to allow. I wait too long and the sender errors out.
I can do it with WiFi in both directions, and with BT from PC to tablet. I just can't FROM Droid to PC.
THAT is the basis of my original post.

No i understand what you are saying. I should have worded my post more clearly.
What i am trying to say is that you can only initiate a Bluetooth transfer from the device sending the file for security reasons. You cant "pull" a file for instance. But i would try to use WiFi to take control of your PC then push the file to the tablet via VNC from the tablet. So for instance, you are controlling the PC from your tablet, now you have full control as if you were sitting in front of your computer. Then to send a file from your tablet to the computer, just use Root Explorer or a similar browser app that allows sharing with bluetooth, then send the file from the tablet, use the VNC view to control your computer and accept the connection and file.

Thanks for clarifying. Now that I've thought about it, I realize that all of my BT exchanges have been a transfer from a device, they've never initiated a pull. For all the years I've used BT it's never occurred to me what was happening - in Windows a coupla clicks and " ... do you want to send a file or receive ..." yet even when you say receive, you have to move to the OTHER device to start it. hum...... being too poor to pay more attention I guess that's what happens.
As far as WiFi, I've used that in this senario, but we're staying in an RV park for awhile, and although they have good WiFi ( they should, I built it), it's too slow. I think I've simpler solution to elegant idea, the LAN Shares plug-in with Total Commander allows back and forth transfers, just tunnel inside a VPN.
Thank you again for clarifying - I could have died trying trying to get this to work.
Hi, Hoping there are some out there that have experience with file transfer from an Android phone. I am somewhat new to the arena and it looks like there is apps out there but I'm wondering if there is an all in one for my needs... I would like to be able to:
Transfer larger files from my phone to my NAS (Diskstation) and my PS4. At home wireless might not be the fastest but probably the most practical. I have tried BubbleUpnp but it looks like all I can do is stream from the phone to a device, not transfer the files. If I have that wrong please let me know. Also I've had times when in Hotel rooms the wireless is not strong enough to transfer files, and would like to be able to transfer from phone to PS4 over USB if possible. If that amounts to a couple different apps that's ok, just was trying to make this as simple as possible. Thanks in advance for any help!
Edit: I have a Motorola Droid Turbo 2

Ok, that didn't go well.. How about just this. I have an SD card formatted to FAT32. I plug my phone via cable into my ps4, select transfer files in the automatic menu that pops y on the phone and my ps4 doesn't recognize it. Is there a way to get my phone to recognize the storage while in the phone and through USB? Must I take it out of the phone and put into a USB reader? Thanks for any help..

You do have a few options:
1. get an OTG (on the go) micro usb to full usb (female) adapter, attach a usb stick to your phone using the adapter, copy the files to the stick and pack to the ps4
2. ES File Explorer is an app that supports file transfer over http (amongs other things) and through it's help section it shows you how to do it if you do not know how. however that requires that the ps4's internal drive is shared over your network.
Hope that helps

Thanks, the otg is a good idea, need to find one with a keychain. Never been able to keep track of a USB stick for very long. Anyone happen to know why some phones are recognized and some aren't through a USB cable?

Here's the thing.
It depends on the phone itself. Some phones, when connected to pc/other devices are recognised as mass storage devices (like any other usb stick).
Most phones though, especially after android 4.4 are recognised as mtp (media transfer protocol) devices, meaning that it depends on the target device (pc/ps4/etc) on how its is going to be handled or managed.
