"Non-VZW" Device & No Service - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

As of approximately 12:00PM today I cannot get service on my rooted SG3 running the stock rom. After going to the Verizon website, it shows the device as being "non-vzw"...All other devices on the plan work fine. The only major system modification I have made is that I disabled OTA updates.

Is it possible that Verizon is blocking rooted devices from their network?

I will be going to the VZW store to see if this is the case after my classes today...I will report back later. Thank you for the timely response.

I went to the Verizon store and got a new SIM card, but I still can't get service for my phone. After some investigation, it appears my ESN/MEID is corrupted (reads B000000). I have read that this can be caused by a bad flash. Does anyone have any experience regarding ESN corruption?

[Q] Halp! no data!

Alright here's the thing. A friend of mine went to Mexico a while back. There is a wifi access point in the area and he tried to get on the internet with his phone. He told me that he was able to connect for about 5 seconds before he lost internet. Back in the states, he has not been able to use his data at all on his inspire. He can get on wifi fine though. Additionally he cannot send or receive picture messages, but he can still text other than that.
I don't get it, I've tried a billion things. flashing radios/roms/etc and can't figure it out. Right now hes paying X amount of money for something he isn't using and hes probably going to have to buy a new phone soon if this issue keeps up. If someone could toss me some advice that would be great, thank you.
Have you looked into the apn settings?
Sent from a dream.
yup, followed countless guides on different AT&T apns. tried it with two apns as well as just one, selecting it, rebooting. nothing. i dont get it.

Was it working before mexico, or did he buy it in mexico? Also have you tried to install the stock ruu for this device. If it was purchased in the states and you are completely stock then the sim card probably needs to be replaced. Warm climates like mexico can cause electronics to run hotter than expected and things can fail.

It was purchased in the states and the phone was completely stock and untouched by me when he was in mexico, I only started messing with it afterwards. I didn't even think about the sim card, thanks I'll let him know. Would it be possible to buy a new sim card while hes rooted or should i reverse that beforehand? Also got any idea about how much they cost? thanks!

Just return it to stock firmware and take it to your carrier and tell them MMS isn't working. They will most likely just give you a new one.

sgs3 is eating SIM cards

How many people have had to get a new SIM card to get their phone working properly?
How many different reasons have a new SIM card been needed for?
I've heard of a lot of people needing a new SIM card to receive the OTA.
I had to get a new SIM card as my phone would no longer switch to 4G.
Is there a hardware or software issue with this phone causing SIM cards to malfunction?
Is there anyone who's needed a SIM card replaced that has Not flashed or rooted their phone in anyway?
thanks,
I needed one to be able to check for updates.

Do you root and flash roms or other things on your phone?
I'd like to narrow down if this only happens on phones where that is done.
and then to nail down what we are flashing that is wrecking these sim cards if that is the common factor.
I had to get one once I went back to stock to receive ota. I do run a custom rom normally.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Mine is fine, but the other three in my household after receiving g7 can no longer check for updates. I wonder if Samsungs "no sim fix" somehow killed them. All three are unrooted, and never have been.
I have not yet replaced their sims.
Odin'd back to stock to receive updates, had to get a new sim in order for it to work. I run custom as well. I think it has something to do with how the sims are identified on the LTE network since Sprint and At&t don't have this issue.

Never rooted or ran a custom rom...100% stock. Someone mentioned that the update may have fried the sim cards....that's my thought as well.

Problem with that theory though is lots of people had to get a new sim card just to be able to take the ota.
Good to know this isn't necessarily cause from flashing roms and what not.
I also had the problem checking for OTA updates. I received the update just fine and then had the problem. I went to the Verizon store and the switched the SIM card out and problem was resolved.

Both my brother and I had to get new sim cards for 4g due to the phone warping our cards.
I had to get a new sim card when I upgraded from the galaxy nexus to the gs3. I believe it was because I had done a manual prl update when it was in the nexus. it seemed to work just fine in that phone but once I put it in the gs3 I couldn't get 4g unless I switched to 4g only.
I was on the latest OTA and I hadn't checked for an OTA since Oct. 3rd and tried yesterday and got a error. Went to Verizon and he said he didn't know if any issue with SIM cards being fried with GS3. I'm all stock and he argued that a new SIM wouldn't fix. I got him to do it anyways and now checking for updates works again. He still doesn't think it was a SIM card. But i beg to differ.

No Service

To begin with, I odin'd back to stock. After installing my apps, I rooted and backed up. I installed miui rom, but after running it for a few minutes, I totally lost service with vzw. I thought it might have been something I did, so I restored from my backup back to factory default. Still nothing.
So I went ahead and odin'd back to stock unrooted again. But somehow I still have no service. I can connect via wifi, but get nothing otherwise. Any idea's what I have done and how to fix it?

You changed your CDMA phone to GSM which is what is supported by MUI. Now it is up to you to get your device back to CDMA/LTE. We have no clue how to fix it.
I was afraid of that when I saw those networks come up. I'll keep searching for how to switch back.

Running the phone after Factory Data Reset Without Verizon SIM, How ?

Hello guys,
After loosing my HTC ONE X on the street a week ago, I bought from some guy an almost brand new GALAXY S3 without knowing it is a VERIZON version.
I live in Israel so i had no idea what is the meaning of buying a device that will work only on Verizon network, we only have GSM here.
The guy i bought it from also had no idea what it means as his father bought it on the US and brought it here wishing to sell it as he had no use in it.
Without realizing the mistake I've made, I then made another one, Taking out the VERIZON SIM CARD and giving it back to the owner!
I thought to myself... well... that's his SIM CARD, not gonna be using that one...
Well, i got home to find out i'm in trouble with this deal I've made, i searched for a way to unlock it for GSM networks and i saw that here in XDA someone made it possible.
As i started working on it i had to download from Google play an application, when i was asked to pay for it i saw it's running on the old owners google account, so i decided i don't wanna pay with my credit while he might get the receipt for it and i figured i should do a Factory Data Reset for the phone and start from point zero the whole process.
Sadly i had no idea i'm doing another big mistake because when the phone finished the reset it asked for a VERIZON SIM CARD in order to run, well you know where that SIM Card is - back at the previous owner and i'm not even sure i will be able to track him down again.
I wish to get this device working without any traces of Verizon, maybe beside the name on the back panel of the device.
Now that the device won't even run without the SIM, what should i do ?
Thanks in advance,
Ohad.

Thanks but i was able to track down the previous owner and get the verizon sim card.
I found away to use it on GSM but still im very disappointed because im not sure there´s a real way to remove any trace for the verizon stuff installed here and there are few errors like it is connected to the provider but it says no verizon sim card connected.
and im not so sure all the device's frequencies are "open" for my provider.
I was wondering if there's any option to burn an international galaxy version to the device and it will bypass all of these issues.

not unless you want paperwieght for a device.
Why don't you just flash CM10 or similar to get rid of all the VZW stuff.... that's what I did.

Not sure how to do so, but either way i'm not sure i will get the device working completely normally with my local SIM card on a gsm network, without bugs, without asking me to put a verizon sim card all the time, without having any option to update the device...
I dunno, i thought i could easily get this Galaxy version to become unlocked completely and get it running like all the other guys around...
Unless anybody here have a good recommendation about what should i do to overcome the verizon and networks issues, maybe i should just sell this guy on ebay and get a normal version...
Do you think this would be a smart move to do ?
Beemer - after you flash the CM10, do you still need to unlock the device and do you still get issues running on other than Verizon providers or do you enjoy a device that is similar to the worldwide versions ?
Thanks,
Ohad.
If you flash an international ROM on a Verizon S3, your phone will no longer power on or do anything useful. That's why it will become a paperweight. Flashing an international ROM on your Verizon S3 is one of the easiest ways to make it useless.
International=quad-core us=s4 processor, very different guts.I'd listen to the ppl on this forum, unless you want to end up with a paper weight.

Know it works on Touchwiz roms. It may not be in AOSP based roms.
Well, i flashed CM10 successfully, i was able to receive and send SMS before with the Stock ROM, and also to make/receive phone calls but i had sim card issues and errors and also some unwanted Verizon apps and stuff.
After updating the device to the latest Verizon version, i couldn't make phone calls, just receive and i could send and receive SMS.
Now that device runs much faster on the CM10 and i can make/receive phone calls but i can't send SMS.
*UPDATE: I have updated to the latest CM10 version, now i can't connect to the provider at all... no internet/phone/sms at all.
SOS
Ok, Im going to try a different tactic, i saw some people tried flashing At&t Roms on their verizon devices and they done it with success.
So far i tried doing it twice, one time with CM10 ROM for at&t, the 2nd time with stock at&t ROM.
I've tried doing it through CWM.
Both times i got an error while installing... it just didn't move on.
Luckly i had the CM10 for the verizon Zip file over there aswell so i installed that ROM again just to get the device running.
Any ideas how to flash the AT&T ROM on the Verizon Device ???

[Q] No 4G - bad SIM card?

Hello,
I was running a total stock Jelly Bean OTA and last week lost the ability to get a 4G signal in a known strong 4G area.
For some stupid reason, I had tried running a *228 last week and am wondering if that caused the issue. I was also wondering if Verizon was somehow throttling me to 3G because of data usage (was up to around 10 gig for the month). I had been using FoxFi (PDANet+) probably for about half of that.
I called Verizon and they said I needed to do a factory reset. I decided that I wanted a backup of everything and took this opportunity to root and unlock my phone using open1your1eyes0 guide. Got everything backed up using Titanium Backup and went ahead and did factory reset. Of course, still no 4G! Called Verizon and they said they're going to send me a new SIM card.
What is the likelihood of this solving the problem? Is there way to test the 4G radio to make sure it's not a hardware issue? Any other things I should be looking at? I verified the Mobile Network was set to Global in both Mobile Settings and in Phone Info.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
The only way to check it's not hardware (which I'm sure it isn't) is if you Odin flash either ICS tar of VRALG1 or VRALF2 then reprovision your sim card. The reprovision dialer code is
*2767*3855#
but be aware that this formats /sdcard aka your internal storage. This code only works on the above based ICS roms.

Yea it likely is the sim if LTE went away after you performed a *228. That's for only for 3g phones and typically you would run this to update your Preferred Roaming List (PRL). For LTE sim phones, you just need to remove the sim for 15 to 30 seconds then put it back in to initiate your phone to update its PRL. Updating your PRL is useful to make your phone (whatever phone it is) associate itself with any new and all towers in your area.
Also, why can't you just go into the Verizon store and pick up a sim? Why wait for them to deliver it?

I thought about that and they offered, but, unfortunately, my work and home schedule prevented me from going to the nearest Verizon store.
UPDATE:
The new SIM card did the trick! 4G is once again available and blazing fast.
