Hi, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 2 from Sprint. I have learned that on XDA this phone is called Samsung Galaxy S 4G. I am not a pro when it comes to rooting phones but I come from a EVO that I had rooted and flashed many roms. However my Galaxy S 2 has me stumped! I rooted it and it has not worked the way it should. I cant get my GPS to work on any ROM I have flashed. I have been through the forums, Google and anything else I could thing of. I Have tried every app or fix idea I could find and still nothing. I am now at the point where I would like to unroot my phone and start over. I feel as if maybe I have done something wrong. However I cant find a video or directions how to unroot my phone back to stock. I know my phone came with ICS and all the videos or directions I find are from 2.3. Can someone please help me with this?
Thanks!
If this is your phone, then it is a Samsung Galaxy S II, which is not a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. The SGS4G is mainly a T-Mobile product and is not firmware-compatible with the Galaxy S II.
Thanks for your reply
Thanks for your reply!! I am sorry I meant to say XDA says my phone is Samsung Epic 4G Touch. XDA also says that its a sprint phone. The only S II phone I see on XDA is the Samsung Galaxy S II 19122 and it does not look like my phone in the picture. Even in the countless videos I have watched its not my phone. In fact I do not even think that the 19122 is not a Sprint phone. The Samsung Epic 4G Touch looks like my phone and its for Sprint. Which should I be using? What should I do??
Firmware for different Samsung phones is not interchangeable. I'd ask in the Epic 4G Touch forums to start

Can I get some advise please? First let me state I am not a very tech or software savvy person. My wife and I are finally getting a sprint smartphone ( we have the rumor and rant now ) My goal is to root the phone for 2 reasons – 1. Wifi hotspot and 2. Make the battery last longer – if that is even possible - We got an ipad and will use most of our internet experience on that device. With that being said I need some advise on which phone I should get that would at least allow me to get wifi from my phone.
The options are
My wife wants a phone with a keyboard so her options are between:
Samsung Epic™ 4G
HTC EVO Shift™ 4G
My preference is either: unless one of the phones above are better-
HTC EVO™ 4G (BLACK)
Nexus S™ 4G from Google
Wanted an evo 3d but heard that the bootloader (?) is locked and very hard to root.
Really comes down to which phones are better and more importantly which are the easiest to root to get the wifi?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
is not a question

You can use ODIN to flash a pre-rooted deodexed ROM with just one click. Doesn't get any easier than that. Its also super easy to flash your old phones MEID/ESN to the EPIC, if you don't want to upgrade you plan. Google my sig.

duansindo- What do you mean this is not a question? DId I phrase it wrong? Cause I meant - What phone is the best to root? 4 options - Maybe I am missing something but that is the question?
I will google your sig if that will help..... Maybe the 4 phone's I listed are all easy to root? If so that is what I need to know... How to root would be the second part but I am sooooo oout of the know on what you said about flashing ect is greek to me... very very new to this. This is my first time posting so if I am posting this in the wrong area I am sorry....
Look up how to use ODIN for the Samsung Epic 4G. Then check the Epic 4G XDA forum for the rom/tar of your choice and further instructions. Its the easiest phone to manipulate IMHO. Cellphone flashing is not discussed here so u will need to look deeper into the void for answers on that. ESN/MEID numbers are your phones identity on the network. So changing them makes your new phone show up as your old phone. Technically its cloning, but essentially its the same thing as switching SIM cards on a GSM network.

I would just wait for the new Galaxy S2 phones to come out first. The Sprint variant will be called the "Samsung Within 4G". The name makes it hard to find information about it online, so just research "Samsung Galaxy S2 for Sprint" for news about it. Its got Apple so scared they are suing their biggest parts supplier, Samsung.

prophour - Thank you that is VERY HELPFUL!!!!
It really comes down to what you want. All 4 phones can be rooted. Out of the 2 phones for you wife. Does she want a 3.6in screen or 4in screen? The Evo Shift screen is smaller then the Epic. The Epic does have a better display. Does she want HTC or Samsung. Personally I would pick HTC. I'm not a big fan of Samsung. They just don't have the product support that HTC has. Now for your phone. It's kinda the same decision. The Evo has a monster 4.3in screen. The Nexus S is no slouch though. It has a very nice 4in SAMOLED screen. The Nexus S is made by Samsung but supported by Google. Your phone pick is hard to choose from. I like both phones. I think I would choose the Nexus S. Any of the 4 would be a great phone choice.
I've rooted all those phones, the Evo is by far the easiest and noob friendly to root using Unrevoked.
See http://www.unrevoked.com/#evo
Hope that helps. I can tell you even if you do decide to wait for the EVO 3D you will most likely be much happier with that device even if it is harder to root and takes a while to learn how. It really is only a matter of time after it is released that some smart dev releases a comprehensive noob friendly guide on how to root it. I've had all those devices except the Galaxy S, my work buys me any sprint phone that I want when I want, its pretty nice. But so far I've been the happiest with the Evo and Evo shift. Evo is super easy to root and a great device! I would go with that one.
I just read that when the Rogers version of Infuse will come stock with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This should be big news to all the devs because I'm sure they can port it to our phones.
http://www.techwafer.com/2011/06/10/samsung-galaxy-infuse-4g-heading-rogers/
Im not so sure, because i heard specs blabbed out from random sites before for the US release stating it was going to be 2.3... SO im not so sure its legit
I think they got a their info wrong...
To start it is not. Galaxy S deivce...
Second if it would run gingerbread wouldn't it have touchwiz 4???

I hope this means 2.3 for AT&T launches at the same time. Probably not but I can hope.

WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?!? why does it say Galaxy S? our phone is not a Galaxy S device, that phone better not have a label somewhere on there that says Galaxy S or i will be pretty pissed about it.
its the same phone with with the same specs, yet AT&T's version is not Galaxy S

what the hell does a label matter? its the same damn phone
but Galaxy S sounds cool
Having a Galaxy S label on your phone makes it worth more.
let me put it this way, lets say your trying to sell it,
"Have this Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G" sounds more executive than "I have this Samsung Infuse 4G"
Galaxy S gives it the name it should deserve i high end phone, since Samsung has made it known that their galaxy s device line are high end devices...

Honestly, any legitimate buyer would do his/her research and realize the specs are more important than a label. Which is why I bought an Infuse.. have you seen this screen?
ha, well yeah, i guess that true, but still! Galaxy S does sound cool, or maybe its just that i have a thing for outer space...
and no i havent seen the screen on this thing
i picked up my HD2 yesterday to mess around with it, and i was like da f#@$ this screen is so small, i think im going to screen my self over with huge screens
I've actually seen several places say it is a Galaxy S phone. To me it really doesn't matter though. I love the phone, S or not.
yeah, i should just get over it... maybe in a few weeks... months...
well to start tw4 is only for the sgs2. it has been ported to and used on other roms(may bet ported to 2.2.1 on the infuse like it was for the vibrant) the sgsi9000 has gb and it is still tw3. next it wont need any "porting" from rogers. it should flash ringht on and just work! and rogers is not known to have much bloat so there wont be too many equivelents of the att apps that you need to delete.
What's the current gingerbread version?
What's the current version of Gingerbread on the Rogers Infuse? Hope it's at least 2.3.4 (so Google Talk has video/voice support)...

JUNE dammit. This post is from JUNE.
Hey guys I have the HTC dinc. Its time for a upgrade im in love with rooting. So what phone (from Verizon) is the best for roms? Simplified what phone has the most and stable roms? Maybe a bigger and constantly updated roms? Which phone would you guys say is the best for that? Thank you. If you didnt get completely what I said let me know. Thanks
get the galaxy Nexus when it comes out. Its gonna be huge in the rom community.
Galaxy nexus if you like aosp, it will run ics the best. Looking at the history of the nexus s there hasn't been much variety in different roms like sense or touchwiz. For sure you will have solid aosp roms like cyanogen and miui. Though it may seem that the galaxy nexus will be more popular then the nexus s, only time will.

Galaxy nexus and sgs2
the best phone is samsung galaxy SII.
.
Thread moved to Q&A due to it being a question. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.
I think ROM DFT very good!
Don't listen to the people saying SGSII. Why? Because it is not, and never will be available on verizon. Get the Galaxy Nexus which should be available within a few weeks.
I would go for the samsung galaxy s 2, but if you don't want to spend too much money you could go for the samsung galaxy s i9000. Which has a large asortiment of custom roms and is much cheaper! I have mine for about one year and I'm still thrilled, especially with the Ice Cream Sandwich custom rom update!

Troll........
U can't know before the phone comes out how big the Dev community will be for the device. Just keep your eye on the forums to see whats hot hot hot. Take the thunderbolt started out as the 4g verizon flagship but the Dev community isn't all that great with it. Has a few good devs but not a huge selection in roms
The og Droid
But really, the sensation seems to have a lively community. The sgs 2 gets a lot of attention. I know some htc devs have moved to the rezound. The dinc2 is picking up steam, there are quite a few roms out for it, but I know it isn't the newest thing out.

How is that being a troll? The OP asked which phone for VERIZON and there have been numerous answers of the SGSII which is not and never will be on Verizon. You make no sense. And you say Sensation? Again, it is not on Verizon.
It's a pretty safe bet to say that the Galaxy Nexus will have phenomenal development. The device was hyped for 4-5 months, and previous Nexuses have had a lot of ROM's and hackery. The people who keep saying a Galaxy S II or the guy who said sensation are:
a. people who didn't read the thread
b. trolls.
We know the GN is coming to Verizon via various leaks.

Verizon confirmed it themselves silly
Although it appears that the nexus prime should be coming to verizon for now my vote would be for the fascinate for the wolfson chip and voodoo sound.
Dear fellow XDA members,
I was wondering if someone could chime in to help make my decision much easier for me. I currently just signed up with AT&T and within my 30 buyers remorse period so I am trying to get the right phone for me. I like the bigger screen that most Android phone offers but I like the screen resolution that the iPhone offers, but not a fan of the apps being displayed on the home screen. Could anyone help me out with deciding which phone to choose. Please give me an explanation to why you chose that particular phone please.
Here are my options:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Apple iPhone 4S
LG Nitro HD
HTC Vivid
Much appreciation for those who chimes in to provide information to me.
Thank you,
John

personally i would say the skyrocket because of the cheap price and dual core 1.5 ghz processor. But its all about personal preference but i suggest the GSIISR

Hello all. I've lurked here in the past for my old phones but I've just gotten a new one and felt I might as well stay for good.
I couldn't find any place to post about Galaxy S Relay anywhere. Is this phone that niche that no one has it? Was going to root from stock easily before I dive in at all.
I have been attached to physical keyboards since the day I first used one, so this phone was the best one T-Mobile had to offer so far. S3 was wayyy too big when I tried it and I didn't like it at all.
Am I out of luck? :crying:
I saw that it was renamed from the Blaze Q and that there is a Blaze 4G forum, but I wasn't sure if that was the exact same thing because we all know how messing up one little detail during rooting can **** up your phone for good...
