[Q] cwm froze in wipe process (semi n00b) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm not very great with the correct terms, but I'll try to spell out my issue as best as I can. I have cm9 installed on my skyrocket, I tried to flash another rom and had issues with it. I then tried to flash back, but cwm seemed to be stuck formatting /cache. The friend helping told me to reboot and try again so did and then I started having boot screen issues. I can get my phone to download mode or cwm, but I can't seem to get odin to install the stock or for the cwm to finish (still stuck on formatting /cache.. goin on 2 hours). What did I do wrong and how can I fix this?
DETAILED help would be appreciated, but I'll take what I can get at this point. I'll re-explain anything that doesn't make sense.
I really just want to get back to stock.

What happens in ODIN -- does it also get stuck at formatting cache?
Have you tried any of the Heimdall one-click to restore to stock?
Let us know if that also gets stuck on formatting cache.

ODIN wouldn't always register my device and when it did it would either fail, complete in the description box after checking the md5, or fail due to the device de-registering.
At this point my my device is showing the "firmware upgrade encountered" screen with the yellow triangle. I didn't know about the Heimdall. I followed the directions on Kies to restore it that way, but it's not picking up my device even though my computer is.
Am I f*cked?

Yellow triangle sounds like download mode to me. See if any of the heimdall one click restores will see the phone n try to flash.
Also try using different USB cables, USB ports, different PC, etc...

I downloaded heimdall 1.3.2, having a tough time finding some good directions on how to use the heimdall. The ones in the "README" file talks about zadig. Do I need to use zadig also or just the heimdall? Or is there a good guide could recommend?

Use odin

In its current condition all it does is boot directly to that screen. It also won't stay powered off unless I pull the battery. Think I could take it to at&t? Just an educated guess, but that being the only image I'm getting means that there isn't really anything on my phone right now? I'm thinking maybe I could say that my dog tripped my usb cable while I was updating in kies?

Its looking like my real issue right now is either, usb cable or the connection port. Finally got it to a friend's comp and his dad who has years of experience is working on it. Took him a new samsung cable today so hopefully it'll work out. Thanks for the help everyone. Sorry for my panic attack.

Bricked

Think i really bricked it this time. Went back to stock then decided to root a few days after and now while connected to odin my screen just turned pixelated. Im stuck

Can you Get into download mode??
If you can its as simple as redoing Odin. By pixelated you mean when you try to go into dl it does but is ilegible?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997
Yeah. It lets me in dl mode and just gets stuck on the factoryfs. Im using unbrick odin now. Hopefully it works. But the pixels are tiny and all over and diff colors

Didn't sounded like it was truly bricked. Just borked.

I had the same problem ages ago, accidentally yanked the cord when flashing back to stock and was met with a rainbow/black pixel screen and after using Gtg's odin encountered the failed factory.fs message.
Try THIS return to stock method instead. Once you get to the thread, find Question 4 in the FAQ section of the thread. (seems to address your issue)
IMO this method is easier to use and you can flash to a rooted+3e froyo.
Hope this helps...

use a different PC.
Install to latest java
download adam's heimdall
run heimdall
get the drivers
put your phone in download mode (shut off, pull battery, press vol +/-, battery in, USB
if correct, heimdall should show connect
go to heimdall options
list device
samsung or android
run zadig
heimdall flash
if it goes back to recovery, second flash with bootloader checked and flash again
gl

Halfway thru dbdatafs then said unsuccessful. Keeps doing that

Use a different USB port...it's kinda funny that way.
heimdall's open-source drivers use libusb. zadig will install libusb for only one usb port. This will be your heimdall port. The rest will retain the odin drivers. just use another usb port. Don't reinstall drivers.
The Heimdall One-Click will bring you back to stock. Our server is down right now so just wait if you're trying to download. I packaged GTG's back to stock as well as KH3(i think) into one-click format. It's at http://files.teamkomin.com then click the infuse4g folder and select a download.

My infuse was running aokpcb rom. i made a backup of my previous rom, AEON v1.3.1. i restored using nandroid back to AEON but when i reboot its stuck at the samsung screen. I tried GTGs Odin back to stock multiple times using different ports but it always gets stuck at factoryfs. i even rebooted the computer and tried it again but still no good. I've used Odin back to stock a couple times before so im used to the program. now ive ran out of ideas and i would greatly appreciate the help. THANKS

+1 odin sux. it's funny how some independant guys can reverse engineer what it's doing and write something better.
Happens to my Infuse all the time now, even using Heimdall. I just pull the battery, get back into the alternate download screen, reload the drivers (if necessary) on the pc and re-run Heimdall. It always seems to get stuck twice, but works the third time. The last time I took it to stock & did a "factory data reset", just to see if that would clear up whatever the issue was. Unfortunately (?), I haven't tried going back to stock since.

Heimdall is great when properly set up and WHEN IT WORKS. What I do, and this'll bring it back from pretty much anything, is use gtg unbrick, and if it doesn't boot from that flash, (and mine doesn't because its a rogers ) , i then flash the Odin stock lb3 pack, and boom back to normal no matter what I flashed. I imagine if you're running an at&t model , you shouldn't have to do the second step. Be sure to remove the battery and reinsert at least once on any from flash to be sure its not booting correctly before going to another step. Also be sure drivers are correctly installed through kies or kies mini. I find this is easiest with Odin because it clearly shows you in bright yellow that the download connection has been established.. many times i' very had to reinstall the kies drivers, I don't know why.. but try this , and like I say once you see yellow in Odin in phone download mode, you know you're set. Once again, like this kies/gtg/try booting/if no boot/pull battery try boot again/ if still no boot Odin lb3 stock and then flash a recovery kernel to regain cwm..

Bricked Help Needed

I have two samsung infuses my father gave me to put custom roms on. My personal one had ICS on it, and I never had a problem flashing it. These two both failed in odin. I'm just trying to get back to stock, but when i flash them they fail part way through, even tried one click and it failed on step 4 of 6.. If anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated..
Thanks
Either the connection was interrupted, or odin messed up. You could try flashing with heimdall, if you can get to the connect to PC screen, or download mode. If you can't, you could make/buy a USB jig to put it into download more and try flashing with heimdall.

Have you tried running them as an Administrator? Sometimes that helps with flashing issues.

Yepp everytime, it seems like one tiny thing is holding it back.. I just tried flashing via odin again, and it stopped at factoryfs. Im going to reboot my computer for the last time tonight and seems if it works.
Have you tried reinstalling drivers? On a system running bot odin and Heimdall, drivers tend to get messed up. Uninstall the Heimdall drivers, then Odin. Then install ODIN drivers, then install the heimdall driver while the phone is plugged into a different port. This setup has always worked for me.

I've never uninstalled them because I could hook my infuse up with no problems and flash it.. I've used kies mini and reinstalled them though.
Well Kies only installs ODIN drivers, you also have to install Heimdall drivers using Heimdall. I would recommend switching usb ports also

Try a different data cable. Every issue I've ever had with Odin (or Kies for that matter) has been solved by ditching the stock cable and using some other random one I found. And that's exactly what would happen - it would connect, start up, and then just stop at a point.

Heimdall 1click stuck at kernel upload failed

Need some help. Step dad's Infuze is boot looing at the samsung logo. Searched and found qkster's thread about using heimdall 1 click to flash UCLB3. Got the phone into dl mode, loaded drivers and started flashing. Stopped at kernel upload failed. Ending session. Don't know what to do, can I just unplug and start over? Thanks in advance for any help.
Rebooted into dl mode, now it is showing firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again. Please help, is this still fixable?
I can get the phone recognized by Heimdall, just that it stops when loading the kernel. Is there another way to load kernel when in the dl mode?

either odin or heimdall works. you have to believe that. the frustration is getting a pc with usb port and a usb cord and your phone to align and work correctly. usually after a few driver install or java update or reboot..something works.
your other situation where you kinda had it recognized and almost completed a flash, try different usb cords. hold it steady, wipe the ports..etc..connection is prolly loose

Yeah frustrating it really is. Will fire up the old xp boxen and see if I get better results with that.
While reading up yesterday, I saw some posts about corrupted efs causing the att screen bootloop. Is there anything else?
I don't think it is a power button problem as the phone doesn't turn on when I insert the battery.
Finally, you think it is safe to use a custom rom if the stock one is bootlooping on the at screen?
Thanks again, will go back to reading and trying stuff after dropping off my son to daycare.
