Need a second android phone - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Greetings all,
Just got an S3. Getting to know it and like it a lot.
I need a second android phone for my business line. Considered the Google Nexus but heard mixed reviews. Any ideas?

Motorola Droid Razr Max HD

HTC One X would be a good choice!

I'd get the razor Maxx
Gs3

Never thought I'd say this but since it is for a business line I say go with anything from the Motorola Droid RAZR line. The signal quality on those are superb and since its business I'm sure that's most important.
I would've recommended the Galaxy Nexus but I use to have a huge struggle with maintaining signal. I went through 5 gnex until they offered to give me a gs3 and I took it. I know plenty of people that use to have the issue didn't have it anymore once they flashed those recent jelly bean radios but there were also some like myself that still had the problem.

No offense to you personally, but I couldn't see getting an Android phone whose multitasking has been crippled, with a unibody design that makes battery replacement difficult and no SD card slot.
I'd still get it above an iPhone because it's essentially been whittled down to iPhone limitations with the size and OS we expect from contemporary Android phones, but within the Android product lines it's not something I'd seek out above others. If their JB update fixes the multitasking limitations, I could more easily see it as a second phone, though.
If I needed a second phone that wasn't necessarily in the GS3 class and dev wasn't an immediate goal, I might try out the Droid Incredible 4G LTE.
My $0.02.

RAZR maxx or if you waited the RAZR maxx hd

Will the next Mottorola phone out do the SGSIII
It should at least have a better radio in it for better data signals. Samsung still can't seem to put a decent radio in their phones. The radio in my bionic is better than the one in my SGS3.

No cause its a motorola. Motorola may make good phones with a decent outside build quality but in general their phones suck on software. Case and point Droid x2 a great phone on paper only downside is ram (on paper) which is 512mb. Dual core 1ghz tegra2, qhd display, built like a beast, slim, 8mb camera, 8gb of on board memory.
Software side: locked boot loader, tons of glitches, music didn't play properly on custom roms as well as stock, stuck at 2.3.5. When trying to make a call there are dead spots on the screen so at times certain numbers can't be hit.
Hardware issues: had a bad digitizer 3 different phones all had it.
When you buy a Motorola all you are buying is a radio. Yes theirs are good better then HTC (Verizon sucks in my area but on my dx2 I never had problems making a call on 1 or no bars on my dinc2 on 1 bar I pray I can make a call and hold it.
So no. I don't care if they made a super smart phone that gimped out every other phone in the market, it still won't be better cause your dealing with moto. You will get abandoned even if your phone can handle the latest update and if your phone is over 7 months old you will get abandoned. There will be some major defect on software side that even devs can't fix.
So no. They will never make a phone better cause in order to make a better phone they can't abandon it. Sgs3 is already slated to get jb how many moto phones are slated to get it? Answer none as of yet. They haven't even made a phone that came out with Ics.
Don't buy from them. If your first priority is a phone then buy a feature phone by them cause they make damn good ones just don't break it cause their refurbished phones are all defective (this is the same for their smart phones, they have a lousy quality control team for refurbs) and then get a tab.
If you're on Verizon just stick with Samsung or HTC if your on another carrier then choose the other options like Sony. Don't even give moto the time of day. And them being owned by Google doesn't mean a thing Google will not police them.

Yeah, beside radio, built and battery (which wouldn't be 3300mAh in the new one) they can't get out of the software swamp......
All new Motorola phones ( new models ) can have bootloader unlocked from Motorola itself

Droid Razr HD or GSIII?

Which should I pick up(Verizon)? I feel like it's hardware vs software (why can't I have both? ). The build quality on this phone looks stellar and the kevlar looks boss, but it's lacking atm in development. On the other hand the GSIII has a GIANT following, dozens of ROMs, an extra gig of RAM, and just seems to be cared about/getting software attention.... but it looks like a kids toy... Will the Razr pick up speed? Opinions?
Go for the RAZR HD. Software can change, hardware not so much.
RAZR HD if u care about good reception and battery life
Cause even thou the g3 has roms we still beat them there vs a stock RAZR HD
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
Hasn't this topic been beaten to death already in other threads? Pick up whatever one you want. A bunch of thread-posters aren't going to change your mind if you're decided on one already. They're both very good devices capable of doing a lot of the same stuff. It's going to depend on your personality and how you plan to use the phone.
Droid Razr HD :good:
Just saw the JB leak, getting the Razr haha.
+1 ^ saw the leak about 5mins ago, you beat me to it. Excited to test it out.
I just ditched my S3 on Sprint and am I ever glad I did. Loving the Razr much more.
Meanwhile, my S3 is streaming constant video on roaming until Sprint cancels my contract for me.
Razor hd. I live in a low service area with my s3 and it is horrible. I have to stand in a certain part of my house just to send a text. I recover no calls and making calls is out of the question. Personally I'd wait for the nexus 4 though mad swap to t-mobile.

guess im at the opposite end. Sold my 32GB S3 and just got a razr HD yesterday. I like the phone and the JB leak makes it way smoother...but the locked bootloader and lack of development so far is making me wonder. I never had reception problems with my S3. IDK... missing my S3 tremendouslt a.t.m. The Razr HD is a nice phone. Feels way more solid in my hand and hardware is good. Build quality..superb. Just my ramblings...lol. Happy trails with whatever u decide. Thanks again devs for all your work. I am on XDA more than FB...have a great night everyone.
S3 by far.

Battery vs roms?
The other stuff is subjective.

This screenshot from my RAZR is with Bluetooth enabled, GPS enabled, 4g on and the screen on set to auto brightness for the entire duration of the test while streaming slacker internet radio. Also for the entire duration of the test. Awesome battery life. Also it would seem as though this phone is capable of simultaneous data and voice even in 3g mode. Unless my phone is broken and not actually supposes to do that.

2G of RAM and quadcore kick ass,
check out the benchmark score and also i couldn't stand the speed of RAZR HD after i install all my apps
(restoring from back up online/cloud)
so does this means... the phone seems quick but only when it's new and empty (app-wise)
soon i load with 2 anti-virus, 4 chat apps, CPU&RAM monitor, Battery Widget, Netspeed monitor, App Protector...
and i thought i hate my HTC ONE X enough to love whatever phone next to it.
but... no, i changed it back to ONE X until i got my hands on S3 LTE version.
(this is only my point of view after using the phone *my way*)
cheers.:good:
Maybe it's just me, but even when playing with the two phones at a store, SG3 seemed more responsive and less laggy. Hopefully JB helps HD in that department.
I also think phones these days should come with two gigs of ram given how cheap ram is.
Overall, I am still undecided. Both are great phones, both have strong and weak points, which have been documented extensively by now.
It sounds like if you live in an area with weak signal, need long battery life and don't use the camera much, HD is your phone. If, on the other hand, you like slightly stronger specs and need a good camera, you are probably better off with SG3. Also, I like physical buttons (personal preference) and development is probably going to be stronger for SG3.

Comments like this make me worry :/ I have heard many things about this phone lagging more than other flagship devices running 4.04(from sleep, lots of apps, laggy camera, b/c less ram?). Can this prominent lag experience be tweaked out and/or does jelly bean fix it? :/ I like my butter....

Should I trade for a Droid Razr HD?

Straight trade. I need opinions by the morning.

Thanks guys, that's how I was feeling too.
The only thing on verizon i would trade for is the droid DNA because of the quad core cpu and 1080p display.
I did exactly that last month. Haven't looked back. But at the same time if I had stuck with the s3 I don't think i would have regretted that either. Razr HD has the great build of aluminum and kevlar, the cool led notification bar under the logo and a nice aosp-ish software build, plus battery life is better. However, run the Razr HD launcher on CM10 on the s3 and thats basically the speed experience you get on the razr. Software stutter included, scrolling left to the quick settings stutters the first time you do it after each unlock, and the camera isn't terrible but is noticeably worse. A little annoying. I'm actually debating going back to the Galaxy nexus for some pure 4.2

GS3 or GN2, anything else is a downgrade!
Maybe you have never owned a Moto. I always have until I bought this GS3 because I vowed to dump them for their locked bootloader BS! I was very sick and tired of the inability to load a custom kernel. Do you want to overclock? Do you want alot of development for your phone? I'm not saying there isn't development for moto, but it's a difficult and time consuming process. You may be looking many many months before you can just overclock. Everything is a pain because you have to work around their kernel which can't be touched. Kexec is still fairly new for Moto and last I checked there was only one custom kernel that could be side loaded for the Razr and devs couldn't figure out how to get the second core to work on the CPU. Obviously this is a hot subject with me lol. My last Moto was the "red headed step child"(BIONIC). Bionic..."The machine of all machines" Motorola's Flagship". Then 2 or 3 weeks later the Razr comes out and claim that the flagship! That was strike one and it continued from there through development struggling. The only thing thats good about Moto is there decent build quality, radios, and when something good finally gets developed for it you just about poop yourself!

i have both in my hands right now....traded my galaxy nexus for the razr HD...i love the build quality of the razr, battery life and the motorola radios..however it lacks the developer support that the s3 has...only a few roms out there....both feel about as fluid and fast as the other...so the main question is are you a crackflasher or not.....thats what it boils down to me....plus the amount of accessories for the s3 compared to the razr
The battery isn't a problem for the GS3 because of the fact you can put in a new battery or extended. The Razr line does have nice build quality but ugly design. To me, I think Samsung does a better job with their software and the camera is a lot better vs Motorola. I haven't notice any worst when it comes to wireless radio going from a Maxx to a GS3. The Wi-Fi is better on my GS3. Even though the newer Motorola phones have that "stock Android" look & feel it doesn't feel optimized yet. It lags from time to time. And the Samsung development is way better. The developers have done awesome work and pretty much negated the locked boot loader. Motorola's development is a joke. There's no reason to get a Motorola phone any time soon in my opinion. They haven't stepped anything up in the last few years except for battery life.

Switching to Verizon; Which phone to get?

Hey guys, having a little dilemma deciding what phone to get.
I've had a myTouch 4G since April '11 and my dad is paying the ETF in a couple of weeks because his work offered him a great deal on Verizon (including unlimited data!!!).
I'm torn between these three phones: iPhone 5, Galaxy S III, Droid DNA
I like the iPhone 5, because, well it's an iPhone. I love iPhone's, but I do have an iPod Touch. So probably not. Still considering it though.
All my friends have the GS3 and love it, and it is a hell of a phone. Features just about everything, only dislike is the fact it's Dual-Core, which isn't THAT big of a deal.
Then, there's the DNA. Beautiful in every way, but I like Touchwiz the best, Sense is OK at best for me, and it seems like it might be kind of too big. But it is 1080P and Quad-Core... mouthwatering...
I have outruled the Note 2 because it's definitely too big for a phone I'll have for 2 years, and the Razr Maxx HD is just underpowered to me.
Cost is not an issue. But here's what I currently use my mYtouch for:
Lots of facebook, games like Hill Climb Racer, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc., browsing the web plenty, listening to music, viewing videos and pictures, taking pics and videos when I want, etc. I'm gonna have this phone for 2 years so I don't want a phone that will slow down anytime soon.
What do you guys/gals think is best? Thanks!
For your needs... it really depends. You seem to have basic interests and don't really require a lot of customization from what I see. I would get the GS3 because it is such a well-rounded, great device. I would not get the iPhone just due to one simple question you must ask yourself: what does it offer that a GS3 doesn't? In the next two years if you find yourself low on storage with an iPhone then what? That's just one example. I don't feel like typing out a million reasons why I'd go with the gs3. I could, trust me. And I'm not even an Apple hater. They cater to the simple, less tech savvy usually. I wouldn't recommend it for someone like you who (a) uses xda and is surrounded with a wonderful Android loving community and (b) because you want something more long lasting. The iPhone 5 will stop getting updates when it gets old. The original Droid runs on Jellybean. There's my $.02.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Only you can decide what phone you want ~ as 3thanol said iphone 5 will stop getting update once the new gen phone comes out . S3 is a good choice but if you want latest go for the Droid Dna .

It depends on the phone iirc. My skyrocket didn't get official ICS until July and the s3 is supposed to get Jellybean soon I think but I have 4.1.2 aokp flashed on my skyrocket so their releases don't really matter to me.

Lost my beloved Inspire 4G, what to get next?

After almost two years with my Inspire, I'm very sad to have lost it, up til the end on jellytime was awesome and it was a new era.
Now I need to get a new phone, and the market seems overwhelming. I saw the developer RandomBlame from Jellytime being pretty happy with the nexus 4, but I'm not so sure I can live without a SD card slot.
I'm interested in reading about experiences from other people who for one reason or another have migrated from an Inspire/DHD to something else.
You guys who used to love you're Inspire/DHD, what phone made you equally or more happy? What phone do you regret going for thinking it would compensate for the ACE you had?
Happy New Year, D.
Sorry about your loss...my condolences.

I dont know if you can wait for a while and how you feel about BB, but the Z10 has amazing specs. I currently use the Inspire 4g and will give BB a look when its come out. Thats if it comes to ATT, which I think it would.

That sucks that you lost it. When looking I had my list narrowed down to three phones: HTC One X, Samsung Note 2, and Samsung Galaxy SIII. All three have good specs but it is up to you what you prefer more. I decided the Note series was just too big. I would have to use two hands to operate it and figured if I was going to do that I would buy a tablet first. Loved the HTC but the killer for me was the lack of SD card expansion and the lack of changing out the battery. Ultimately the S3 was my final choice. Love it so far. Had it rooted by the second day and have been cruising along with it for over a month now.
I'm hearing that there will be an SGS4 coming in April 2013.

I love my inspire as well, however even using the cyanogrnmod 10.1 unofficial sporting android 4.2.1 isn't enough to compensate for poor battery performance. I have had the phone around a year. I think I am sold on getting the Galaxy Note 2. With its huge battery and juggernaut hardware specs I could get two or three years use out of it. Not to mention it has an SD card slot which I too love.
