Does anyone know if there is a difference between the US .30 firmware that was pulled from the ASUS site earlier this week, and the one that is posted there now?
No I don't. If you are going to mark something as a question though, why not put it in the Q and A section...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
I noticed that the firmware filename now contains the date, which is new. However, the date on the file in 9/7/12, so I believe it's the same as the original .30 version. I sure hope they wouldn't release a different ROM with the same version anyway!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I believe that even the ASUS firmware development team would have enough sense to bump the patch level number in the version string (i.e. .30 -> .31) if they had actually changed a publicly available release in any discernible way.
Maybe the US version was pulled from the site earlier this week, but it's clearly there now. Just checked.

It was more of a General question than a Question question, so I figured here would be appropriate.
Also, if you're not going to provide an informative answer, why would you respond?

I take advantage of this related post to ask if someone could post the blob file for this update (at least for WW or US since only these two have been released) ?
Many people (the same guys that can't unlock) can't access OTA updates and would love to have it.
Sorry, I flashed it before I thought about it, then it just deletes the file I believe, but you can start a new thread and ask for it, perhaps there are still people who haven't flashed it yet.
I was browsing around Asus' support site in anticipation of their latest update, since last update for WW did not announce itself via OTA. As a result I had to do it manually and expect to do so now again when it would finally be available. Anyway.. browsing... I stumbled upon this:
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=ASUS+Transformer+Pad+Infinity+TF700KL&p=20&s=16
What I was wondering is, are they out there? The TF700KL. Does anyone on here have one? And why is there only a WW release, where the TF700T has 5 different versions?

Still nothing here either, even a manual check still returns "no update available". Fortunately, I just had another look at the TF700T support site and they now list US, JP, TW and CN, but still no WW.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to give you all an update on the jelly bean upgrade for our devices.
I contacted Asus about Jelly Bean on our Tf700's; here is their response.
Dear valued customer
Thank you for contacting ASUS Technical Service
Hi,I have asked the superior that the JB of your unit will be released in early October any you can download it manually from the website or it will update automatically.
Welcome to refer Troubleshooting & FAQ for ASUS products in ASUS

Since ASUS is a Taiwanese company and since the bulk of their development and support is non-US based that makes it sound much more likely to be authentic to me. If it was perfect English it'd probably be BS unless it came from Gary (their local US support person who occasionally posts on XDA).
Nothing wrong with not speaking English natively. And it's really not that hard to interpret that he's trying to say the target for JB is early October.

If you consider that it changed the bootloader, the .30 update could be considered an important precursor to the JB update. I actually took the .30 update as a sign that the JB countdown for the Infinity has started (i.e. 1st phase of the release plan).
I certainly hope so!

But then why not just include the new bootloader directly in the JB release? Why would they need to release the bootloader in ICS first? I mean if I upgraded directly from .26 to JB, then they must still include the new bootloader in JB anyway, right?
I tend to agree that I don't see the point in putting work into and releasing an ICS update if JB is literally going to be released in the next two or three weeks...

I've come from a Motorola Xoom which got updated to JB just before I sold it to fund the purchase of my new Infinity. A few weeks before the BIG update there was a smaller one which updated the bootloader and a few other things. The subsequent transition was therefore smoother although a fairly large download - there were new GAPPS to consider! The result was a machine that went from great to wonderful to amazing.
I guess the .30 update, which I believe has taken the Infinity from good to better , may eventually lead us to the amazing tablet we were led to believe we had purchased!

Exactly. Since JB will include a kernel update, it makes sense to me to separate the bootloader update from the kernel update. Time, size and risk mitigation. This is why I think that it is part of the larger release plan.
Well your comment "the new bootloader of .30 firmware is a prerequisite for the JB kernel" seems to me to be a fine and logic reason for that ICS update before the JB update. It's nearly convincing me that you're right and that i was wrong in my previous post.
Time will say ....

So, I've perused the forum looking for an answer, but I can't seem to find a clear one. I recently purchased a TF300T on amazon, used. However, the seller neglected to post that it had a CN SKU. I know I can't go from a CN SKU to a US SKU, but can I flash a custom ROM and run GAPPS and things as normal? I thought I read somewhere that some differences in the US models and CN models won't allow GAPPS and some other things to work correctly. Just want to get a clear answer and figure out what I can do with this thing. I appreciate the help!!

Im pretty sure the only differences between the models is the build.prop. So you could change the build.prop to match that of the US.
CROMI roms (CleanROM Inheritance) are the same system files regardless which version you pick. It just applies a difference build.prop. So i think you'll be alright just by making that build.prop change.
You could also contact eBay buyer protection and claim the product wasn't describe properly to get your money back. Or keep it if its in good condition. (Thats what i would do)
Also, just watch when Asus releases updates and what not, ensure you select the right SKU but in terms of android and GAPPS, im pretty sure its just a build.prop edit If i wasnt going to work, i would look into it deeper for you. But i feel pretty confident thats all it is.

Thanks! So are you saying I can just flash a CROMI rom (or something similar) and be okay, or do I need to actually manually edit the build.prop? I'm not sure how to do that. I saw this on the CROMI thread,

So I’ve gotten all the way through the boot loader unlock, flashed TWRP, and even flashed the CHROMI rom (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049322). When I get to the spot where it is asking me to decide on my preferences, DPI, Kernel, Apps, etc….., it gets to the region part and only shows me US and WW. Am I missing something, I also flashed the boot loader for the CN SKU that he lists in post 2.

I suspect ASUS has stopped the 4.2.1 OTA update as well. I recently replaced the motherboard of my tf700 and ASUS Service Center restored my tablet back to 4.1.1. Since then, no matter how I check, there is no OTA update to 4.2. Nevertheless, this actually makes me really happy, because I pleasantly realize that 4.1 is actually much faster than 4.2, UI is a lot more responsive, stock browser is faster, no app crashing as well. Furthermore, the recent app screen is back to the left edge of the screen, the way I always want it to be. ASUS can take all the time they need to fix 4.2 (if there are indeed problems with it), I'm happy with 4.1.1.

Depending what ASUS did, your serial numbers may no longer match in ASUS servers, which could be another reason as to why you are not receiving updates OTA. If this is true, then you will not be able to unlock either.

I was thinking about this possibility as well, but here is the tricky part: When I received my tablet back from ASUS Service Center, I specifically asked them whether my tablet could receive OTA updates, because when I sent it to them, it was on 4.2 instead of 4.1. After checking for quite some time, the technician said that he had checked ASUS Server and reassured me that my firmware was the latest that they had (he said that the 4.2 update did not exist in their internal server, even though he was aware of the update). Together with the fact that ASUS removed the 4.2 firmware from their website, I suspect that the OTA update is not available as well.
Obviously all of this is just my speculation, as it could simply be the case that ASUS screwed up my serial number (it is still the same though). Since there is no update currently available except for the 4.2 update (I'm on the latest firmware for 4.1), I have no way to check if the OTA update service is working properly.
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I just would like to know why they pulled it. Makes me nervous to install one of the ones from the links, if there is something wrong is there going back to 4.1? I know with my tf300 once you went to 4.2 there was no going back.
