So, I've perused the forum looking for an answer, but I can't seem to find a clear one. I recently purchased a TF300T on amazon, used. However, the seller neglected to post that it had a CN SKU. I know I can't go from a CN SKU to a US SKU, but can I flash a custom ROM and run GAPPS and things as normal? I thought I read somewhere that some differences in the US models and CN models won't allow GAPPS and some other things to work correctly. Just want to get a clear answer and figure out what I can do with this thing. I appreciate the help!!

Im pretty sure the only differences between the models is the build.prop. So you could change the build.prop to match that of the US.
CROMI roms (CleanROM Inheritance) are the same system files regardless which version you pick. It just applies a difference build.prop. So i think you'll be alright just by making that build.prop change.
You could also contact eBay buyer protection and claim the product wasn't describe properly to get your money back. Or keep it if its in good condition. (Thats what i would do)
Also, just watch when Asus releases updates and what not, ensure you select the right SKU but in terms of android and GAPPS, im pretty sure its just a build.prop edit If i wasnt going to work, i would look into it deeper for you. But i feel pretty confident thats all it is.

Thanks! So are you saying I can just flash a CROMI rom (or something similar) and be okay, or do I need to actually manually edit the build.prop? I'm not sure how to do that. I saw this on the CROMI thread,
CleanROM Inheritance can be provisioned for US and non US – World Wide (WW) editions during the install process

but am not sure what that means. Thanks again for the help!

So I’ve gotten all the way through the boot loader unlock, flashed TWRP, and even flashed the CHROMI rom (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049322). When I get to the spot where it is asking me to decide on my preferences, DPI, Kernel, Apps, etc….., it gets to the region part and only shows me US and WW. Am I missing something, I also flashed the boot loader for the CN SKU that he lists in post 2.

I just purchased this tablet today and quickly rooted it. I've since tried to upgrade my firmware and its failed 3 straight times. It'll reboot and begin the update, then fail midway thru, leaving an android dude with an exclamation mark. Then it boots back up and gives a message that the update failed. If anyone can help me figure this out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Have you done the build prop tweak? Have You installed any of the themed apps? Have you removed any of the original files in /system?
For me, no, no, and no. All I've done is give it root.

What have you used your root access to do? Sorry for all the questions just trying to figure out what might have affected it.
even though you failed the update does the build version say .26?

I don't mind the questions heck I just appreciate the help. With root I've used AdFree and Root Explorer to change the stock email/exchange apk's for the hacked ones to bypass security. Nothing else.

So you did change system apks. That's your problem right there.
So the correct answer for a couple posts above is no, no, and yes.
Thanks, I restored my email/exchange backups but the upgrade continues to fail. I may end up having to return this but I appreciate the help.

Flash the .17 blob (and probably do a factory reset for good measure) and reroot. Don't touch anything else, and do the update. That should get you where you want to be. A lot of hassle, but I think it's the only way. You definitely don't need to return your tablet.

Hello all
I bought my Infinity from China yesterday.
I want to replace the firmware with US or UK or even UAE
Is there anywhere I can find these?
I saw the Asus firmware update thread but I don't think that'll help...
Thanks
Also, any chance I can use the Prime's firmware for the Infinity or not?

It seems you can flash the WW firmware, as you have tried in the other thread (I'm just putting that up here for reference for new readers).

Still working on that one... Since it looks like I'm the only one who can't do this, I'm gonna assume I need root and go ahead and do it.

Thought so
AFAIK you don't need root for that. Just follow the steps and remember not to miss any (the filename, the filesystem etc.).
Yup. Never needed root, nor did I venture there... yet
I'll definitely go for it soon though
Thanks again. Update flashing worked out just fine

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the US .30 firmware that was pulled from the ASUS site earlier this week, and the one that is posted there now?
No I don't. If you are going to mark something as a question though, why not put it in the Q and A section...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
I noticed that the firmware filename now contains the date, which is new. However, the date on the file in 9/7/12, so I believe it's the same as the original .30 version. I sure hope they wouldn't release a different ROM with the same version anyway!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I believe that even the ASUS firmware development team would have enough sense to bump the patch level number in the version string (i.e. .30 -> .31) if they had actually changed a publicly available release in any discernible way.
Maybe the US version was pulled from the site earlier this week, but it's clearly there now. Just checked.

It was more of a General question than a Question question, so I figured here would be appropriate.
Also, if you're not going to provide an informative answer, why would you respond?

They are the same for the current and "old" version.
Recently traded in my iPad for the TF700 and I can say I am indeed pleased with my decision, however I am new to the community and have been recently searching for a method to install CleanROM to make my user experience even better, or as it so claims. So far after reading through a couple of guides I have been able to unlock and permanently void my ASUS warranty, which I am okay with. I'm not sure if I'm rooted or not (lol) but I tried running SuperSU and it said something about not being able to write into the binary files so I guess I'm not. Anyways heres a quick breakdown of what I've done and what I'm hoping to accomplish.
TF700 32 GB
I got the OTA update for JellyBean 4.1.1
I didn't do anything until now so I guess you could say I got the tablet with Jellybean installed on it vanilla.
Unlocked Successfully.
Flashed CWM recovery but for some reason when I try to enter from the boot loader menu the screen just flashes on and off. I've transferred the clean rom zip into the root of my device already. anyone know the problem? Thanks!

If you've unlocked the bootloader then you don't need to root, just install custom recovery and flash the ROM of choice...

I think I know where the little confusion comes from: you need root access to install TWRP from GooManager, but not for flashing anything from recovery.
So, if you've unlocked the bootloader and flashed CWM already, you're all set to flash CleanROM. As you should know, you will end up with a pre-rooted OS, so there's no need to follow through with anything other than customizing to your liking in-OS.

In all probability, that thread is indeed the best place to start from, no matter what your issue or question may be. It's getting pretty comprehensive.
What is the current version of CleanROM
I have done a little research and CleanROM appears to be recognized as fast, stable, and not having issues with assorted features (i.e. GPS, camera, etc.). I have had a hard time finding what the most current version is, what Android version it is based on (i.e. 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.1, etc.). Is there an offcial site, including downloads someone can point me towards? Thanks.

The most recent version is CleanROM Inheritance 3.0.3. plus the v.3.0.4 patch; it's based on ASUS's stock Android v4.1.1. ROM.

Is there a way to Unlock or Root the TF700 with the current JB firmware? My TF700 came stock with JB, and it seems like Asus took down the links to the ICS firmware on their support site.
As others have said in various threads, you can be on JB and unlock no problem. It says ICS only but Asus are just lazy and haven't updated their site. I unlocked on JB and everything is fine.

Correct. I just did it last night and everything worked fine. Unlocked and rooted on latest 4.1.1 JB!

New TF700 owner here.
Curious to getting root w/o unlocking it? I looked at some other threads and only talk about keeping root while upgrading etc.
So far loving this tablet, the dock makes it 100x more useful when you need it.

As far as I know, the only way to root it without unlocking the bootloader is if you have ICS and just use the debugfs command program, as far as rooting with JB I know you have to have the bootloader unlocked. In all honesty I don't mind taking the risk of unlocking my bootloader because I have Geek Squad Protection on my tablet and can just get a new one for free.

This thread should help you out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938129
You should use TWRP 2.3.1 instead of 2.2.2.3, which he reccommends, though. They have fixed the issues he talks about.

I'm wanting to take the plunge myself - but do you have to use the Asus unlocker tool or is there a way around that? I'm too late to get SquareTrade I think. Too late, and too poor LOL. I just have that nagging feeling that as soon as I do the thing will bork on me.
Edit: Sorry...I just read that you can't unlock without the ASUS tool, and it's a damn shame. I want so bad to rant right now but I won't.
I think I'm still going to unlock though.
The only way I could find to root was to install CWM recovery first, and then install the CWM SuperUser app. I replaced CWM with TWRP when all was said and done. Both are now touch interfaces making things so much less laborious. The links for doing so are all around the web and these forums. I had my frustrations but in the end it was easier than I thought it would be. I'm happy I took the plunge. I believe a lot of my frustrations were from ASUS' horrible implementation of Android. My benchmarks are now 6300+ on Quadrant with 2D GPU rendering on. I know benchmarks aren't everything but, you won't be sorry if you're giving up some kind of warranty to get the device you paid premium dollar for.
